launch 1st University Smart WiFi Project in the Phils

University of Southern Philippines Foundation (USPF) and Smart Communications Incorporated launched the 1st University Smart Wifi project in the Philippines at USPF Lahug campus on Valentine’s Day 2017. The formal launching happened on the occasion of the University Days 2017 and 127th Birth Anniversary of University co-founder Doña Beatriz Duterte Jereza. Among the Smart heads who were present at the project launch include: senior vice president and head of sales and distribution Alejandro Caeg, PLDT-Smart chief of people and culture Maria Elizabeth Sichon, first vice president for commercial business planning Darlene Stephanie Chiong, vice president for integrated marketing and community development Gabriel Marco Cui, vice president for business controllership Ana Liza Alarios, vice president for distributor sales Maria Congiya Palafox, assistant vice president for WiFi business Regina Pineda, and Cebu sales head for PLDT SME John Thomas Nanquil. Likewise, the University officials who were present include: university president and trustee Dr. Alicia P. Cabatingan, secretary of the board of

In his welcome message at the launching, VP Gastala recounts: Today, we are at the 2nd day of our University Days celebration. We partner with SMART Communications Inc. to launch the 1st University Wifi in USPF in Cebu which adds more excitement to the celebration. Last Year, we have started the implementation of our Infrastructure Rehabilitation Consolidation Optimization and Security Project (IRCOS) and there are two integral projects. No.1 is the infrastructure (where the internet access via Wifi is included and the 2nd one is the content or curriculum integration. Both projects are in line with the University’s vision of a 21st century transformative learning environment of global lifelong learners. With the specific objective of providing high tech, high touch quality education. A year after IRCOS was implemented, it resulted to the following: 1. THE 1ST UNBREAKABLE UNIVERSITY INTERNET IN THE PHILIPPINES - Certified by Peplink; 2. THE 1ST CLOUDBASED WIFI CONTROLLER-LESS NETWORK ARCHITECTURE IMPLEMENTATION IN THE

PHILIPPINES – Certified by Aerohive; and, 3. Today, USPF is honored and privileged to be the 1st to successfully launch the University Smart Wifi project in Cebu. All of these achievements lie in the foundation of a reliable, dependable and superfast internet that only Smart Communications and PLDT is able to deliver for USPF. Congratulations to Smart Communications for the very swift execution. Our partnership has been very consistent on its promise to provide a dependable, reliable internet connection. More so, it will definitely cement our claim as a University that is always at the forefront of new and emerging technologies. In closing, on behalf of the management and the university council, I would like to express our sincere appreciation. Indeed it’s a privilege and honor for us to work with IT Leaders such as Smart Communications and PLDT. With this partnership, we hope to foster more exciting innovations in technology in the years to come. Daghang Salamat. A year ago, USPF thru VP Gastala negotiated for a total rehabilitation of PLDT bandwidth offering from 10 to 600. PLDT presented options that wound up to a 300x2 after negotiations without any additional cost for USPF. On the other hand, SMART visited USPF to partner for the WiFi campus project. After several revisions, the provisions of the contract which included free access and possible income sharing, was approved by University president Dr. Cabatingan. Because of the already in site and resilient ICT infrastructure of USPF, the WiFi project, which was swiftly deployed, resulted to access of the internet at the Eladio Villa Gymnasium, covered court and canteen at a minimum speed of 50 to a high of 200 and up depending on the mobile gadget capabilities.

University of Southern Philippines Foundation annually searches for individuals who deserved to be recognized according to their innate inclination. The nomination covers the elementary school pupils to college students who possessed the qualifications as enumerated in the guidelines set by the screening committee. Prior to the proclamation of winners, the nominees undergo series of eliminations as screened by the different department heads. This year’s search for USPF’s Finest was held at the Theater for the Performing Arts last March 11, 2017. The annual event showcased the pupils and students’ academic experiences and individual dreams and talents. The event was actively participated by the different academic levels and recognized student organizations. The phenomenal event will never be surprising without the help of Rev. Fr. Bernard Monteron, Director of the Student Affairs Services, who unselfishly contributed his

its advocacy and support of President Rodrigo Duterte’s war against illegal drugs. The surprising event was actively participated from all levels of the Elementary School together with their respective teachers. Dr. Elaine May S. Patiño, the Principal of the Elementary School, Mr. Arjay R. Pascual, ES SAS Coordinator, Ms. Elien O. Baay, ES Guidance Counselor of engaged and showcased their hidden dance movements as they followed the very energetic choreography of the BJMP team.
