As they reflected on their journey, they recalled how the College of Accountancy embraced them wholeheartedly in their quest for the most coveted CPA title. USPF COA organizes “Meet the BIR Examiners” As part of its community engagement services, the University of Southern Philippines Foundation (USPF) organized a forum through its College of Accountancy entitled “Meet the BIR Examiners” last March 31. The forum “aims to provide a venue for the business owners, managers and investors to clarify issues pertaining to BIR matters,” remarked USPF president Dr Alicia P. Cabatingan. It was held at the University’s main function room. USPF vice president for Information and Communications Technology (ICT) Mr. Lester B. Lasala welcomed the guests and emphasized the significance of ICT integration in the delivery of the University’s curricular programs. The forum was live-streamed on Facebook. Mr. Ipher Tabañag, chief, Assessment Section, BIR Large Taxpayers DivisionCebu was the resource speaker of the forum. Tabañag discussed the Bureau’s three priority programs: 1) improved taxpayers’ satisfaction; 2) protection of revenues; and 3) recapture public trust and attain collection targets. He said that at present, BIR is

reviewing its issuances, recalling those that imposes unnecessary burden and revoking tax rulings that hinder business transactions. It is also simplifying tax forms according to taxpayers’ business size. Additionally, BIR is expanding coverage of electronic Filing and Payment System (eFPS) to include small taxpayers. Moreover, it is streamlining requirements, processing of application clearances, and additional options in paying taxes through VISA Credit/Debit Cards and ATM/Debit cards of Bancnet member-banks and developing an online application and processing system to allow taxpayers to transact business online. Finally, to recapture public trust, BIR is removing corrupt and undesirable tax officers by strengthening its Internal Affairs Service to immediately resolve pending administrative cases against erring officials. The Bureau is implementing RATE or run after tax evaders program. To attain its collection targets, the Bureau is improving profile and benchmarking of industries to cover an expanded list of all types of taxes. Further, it is revising existing zonal values

CPAs of the university. Ms. Sophia V. Godin, Dean of the College of Accountancy has shared her thoughts and joy of the recent milestone of the College. She also emphasized that a true mark of a USPian CPA is Character rooted upon the pursuit towards Excellence and to strive hard to grow holistically. The testimonial dinner ended up with a toast led by Ms. Godin together with all the board passers and guests in the said event. Indeed, there is no need of magic or power to achieve one’s dream. What is needed is simply hard work and determination to realize one’s dream. to reflect current values of real properties. Furthermore, in order to attain further its collection targets, the Bureau is expanding its tax base without increasing tax rates and adopting an expanded compromise settlement program even during the pendency of the assessment process. Participants included large, medium and small scale business entrepreneurs as well local leaders including barangay officials of neighboring communities.
