WELCOME Message

By July, the new Engineering Machine Shop will be completed and operational, with better machineries and tools replacing the old ones. The Engineering laboratories are renovated to provide two more laboratories, this time for electrical engineering. New equipment are acquired for engineering courses to keep abreast with new technological developments. Generally, facilities are improved and the school buildings for elementary and junior high school are repainted ready for the opening of the new academic year using mainly the university color to enhance a lighter ambiance while coolly contrasting with the surrounding greenery that stimulates intellectual capability of the human brain. In the coming months we will witness the start of more efforts to propel further USPF’s positive image as a research university, to advance her presence in the community and educational circle, and to establish more linkages in attracting other educational institutions from abroad, companies and philanthropic entities to partner with USPF in her endeavour toward achieving academic excellence and to bring quality education to her students. By October 2018, the construction of the new building in the Lahug Main Campus will be completed and ready for use at the start of the second semester on November 2018. The new building will house on its 4th floor six science laboratories. There will be 24 classrooms mainly on the 2nd and 3rd floors. There will be on the 2nd floor an additional conference room and a new Learning Commons which will be an innovative addition to the existing libraries. The ground floor provides 2 more classrooms, 2 offices and a much bigger modern canteen which will use the “clean as you go” system to strengthen customers’ positive habit of cleanliness and respect for others. We look forward to more success from our students in their cultural, athletic and other extra-curricular endeavours. We expect more numbers of graduates to successfully hurdle the board and bar examinations. To all our students, thank you for enrolling at USPF where we “pursue excellence for total human development” of our students. We wish you all the best as we begin another academic year in our journey toward realizing your dreams at USPF. God bless!

The University of Southern Philippines Foundation became one of the privileged delegate schools who represented Region 7: Central Visayas in the Private Schools Athletic Association (PRISAA) National Games last April 22-26 2018. Tagbilaran City, Bohol hosted the said games with over 6,330 athletes from 600 private colleges and universities in all 17 regions. With their thunderous win on Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Incorporated (CESAFI) beach volleyball games, USPF’s iconic trio Menchel Remulta, Earl Cansico and Edmar Malata clinched a bronze medal for the PRISAA beach volleyball games. Despite the foreign domain of the games and the temperamental weather, these Panthers still managed to proudly represent the whole re-

VOLLEY

PANTHERS clinch bronze at PRISAA gion 7 and even brought glory to their Alma Mater. “I feel very grateful to our Almighty Father, to USPF, to my dear family and friends, and to everyone who became part of our success up until now,” Cansico said. “Bronze, silver or gold --- it is still a win. We won because many believed that we can. Winning, no matter what sport, gains back not just our confi-

dence, but also the confidence of all the USPF Panthers,” Remulta said. After their PRISAA win last April, these Panthers only have a month and a few days to enjoy their summer vacation. “Even during summer, my body misses the feeling of being in training. Unlike most teens, we’re not having an endurance battle on whether we go to the beach or not. We’re contemplating to practice or not,” 18-year-old Malata re-

marked. Their coaches, Cecil Jotjot and Francis Aboc, expressed their gratitude to all the Volleyball Panthers for always having the determination to withstand the practices as panthers while equally having the willpower to sustain their academic standing as University scholars.
