GOVERNING RULES All competitions governed by the current USPC discipline rulebooks, Horse Management Handbook and annual newsletters. Please refer to the rulebooks page of the Pony Club website. Failure to abide by the competition procedures will result in the entry being refused. Organizers reserve the right to refuse any entry. Online entries, payments, and stall deposits must be received by the entry deadline. All Rallies Must Finish On or Before July 5, 2022.

CHAMPIONSHIPS
Competitions are available in Dressage, Eventing, Mounted Games, Polocrosse, Quiz, Show Jumping, Tetrathlon, and Western Dressage. USPC will also be offering Western Trail and Gymkhana Invitational. The Invitationals are open to all USPC members and equine enthusiasts who wish to apply.
ADMISSION Admission is FREE for spectators at USPC Championships East, including the trade fair, Saturday Night Lights, Invitationals, and Workshops
BICYCLES Bicyclists must always give way to horses and must be parked at the end of barns during competition.
DOGS AND PETS No dogs are allowed in the barns or indoor venues. Dogs are allowed on the premises provided they are always leashed. Dogs must be on a short leash and never left unattended. No animals other than competition horses are allowed in the barn or competition areas.
The unsafe use of personal electronic transport devices, as determined by the competition officials and management in their sole discretion, that do not require a driver’s license to operate, including but not limited to segways, hover boards, and single wheeled scooters is prohibited on competition grounds. Operating such devices in areas where people gather may be deemed “unsafe use” if there is a risk of harm to others. If the operator of the device is a minor, the parent/legal guardian or individual who signs the entry blank as a parent or guardian of a minor operating the device in violation of this rule is accountable and may be subject to penalties. Wheelchairs and other mobility assistance devices for individuals with disabilities are exempt from this rule.
OTHER MOTORIZED VEHICLES
GOLF CARTS All golf cart or other motorized vehicle drivers must have a valid driver’s license, follow all posted signage, and be parked in appropriate areas.
No small motorized vehicles (except golf carts or handicapped scooters) are allowed. No gators, mules, mopeds, scooters, or similar-type vehicles are permitted on the show grounds by non-approved show personnel.
Golf carts will have limited access in some areas, and signs will be posted. Golf carts are not allowed in the barns. Those violating these rules will be subject to a fine. USEF Motorized Vehicle Statement Minors who do not have a valid driver’s license which allows them to operate a motorized vehicle in the state in which they reside will not be permitted to operate a motorized vehicle of any kind, including, but not limited to, golf carts, motorcycles, scooters, or farm utility vehicles, on the competition grounds of licensed competitions. Championships are open to active USPC members who are in compliance with all USPC requirements (SafeSport and background checks) and meet the eligibility parameters of age, certification, and specified discipline requirements outlined in the USPC rulebooks and newsletters.

ENTRY INFORMATION
ENTRY DETAILS
Entry Process Beginning May 2, members (or parents) marked eligible may register for Championships. A member can check their eligibility status by logging into the USPC website and clicking on the Registration link on their profile. Entries must be completed (including payment) by noon Eastern Time on July 5. Members will be marked eligible for Championships by their regional supervisor (RS). Only after a member has been marked eligible are they able to begin their entry. Complete entries (as applicable) require competitor mount, chaperone, and volunteer information. Incomplete entries requiring additional information will incur a late fee of $50 per competitor, and competitor-initiated discipline/division changes will be charged a $25 change fee. Following the entry of individual competitors, RSs must merge region teams and assign team chaperones, coaches, and volunteers. Entry Fees Mounted Competitors
Cancellations and Refunds Refund requests must be e-mailed by the competitor to Activities@ponyclub.org by the closing date of July 5 at noon ET, to receive a refund, less a $50 administrative fee. No requests for refunds will be granted after the closing date. NOTE: Canceled divisions or disciplines due to lack of entries may transfer to another eligible discipline or will receive a full refund. Stable Managers Any Dressage, Eventing, Show Jumping and Western Dressage team including a competitor below the age of 18 must include an unmounted stable manager. Any Polocrosse team including a competitor below the age of 18 must include a stable manager, who may or may not bring a spare horse. For teams made up of participants all above the age of 18, an unmounted stable manager is highly recommended.
Stall Deposits and Stall Stripping All mounted competitors must send a $50 stall deposit check to the USPC National Office, which will be destroyed following verification of their stall being stripped. VOLUNTEERS, CHAPERONES, & COACHES Volunteers (Mandatory Requirement): Each team must have a volunteer per competitor to assist with Championships. During the entry process, competitors must submit volunteer information. We welcome additional volunteers who may sign up by contacting activitiescoordinator@ponyclub.org. Chaperones Any team or competitor under the age of majority must have an official chaperone listed who is at least 21 years of age included in their entry. This person will act as the contact for that team. Competitors above the age of majority must submit emergency contact information with their entry. All chaperone forms will be completed online prior to arrival.

EXCEPTIONS & SUBSTITUTIONS Exceptions It is recognized that local conditions vary across the country and that different rally formats may require some flexibility in the Championships eligibility requirements. Therefore, in unusual circumstances, it may be requested to allow for exceptions to competition eligibility parameters to ensure safety and a positive experience for our USPC members. Exceptions can be submitted following the criteria outline as found on the Championships Competition Resources page. There are no exceptions for age or certifications. Substitutions Eligible mount substitutions can be requested and are subject to the discipline rules and approval of the review panel. Eligible substitutions must come from the RS, using the online form, by July 20. Refer to applicable discipline rulebooks for mount substitution requirements.
Horse Management Expectations The judging of horse management will adhere to the 2022 Horse Management Handbook and Competition Rules, along with the current Horse Management Newsletter for both standard and modified divisions. Standard Divisions Competitors need to come prepared to demonstrate their knowledge of horse management skills at the championships level. Competitors will be judged to their current HM certification standard and are expected to be self-sufficient in the care of their mount. Modified Divisions Modified divisions are structured to allow competitors the opportunity to demonstrate their horse management skills, while offering education and assistance to those competitors who may fall short of their horse management certification standard. Competitors in modified divisions should come prepared to demonstrate their knowledge of horse management skills at the championship level. However, the horse management staff may offer oneon-one education while a competitor takes an active role in completing a specific task, or group education with an entire team(s) to cover specific areas where skills may be lacking.
HORSE MANAGEMENT USPC Horse Management practices will be in effect from arrival to departure for ALL competitors. Please carefully review the 2022 Horse Management Handbook and Competition Rules and the 2022 Horse Management Newsletter prior to arrival on the competition grounds. Each team must send at least one competitor for night checks each night. Only competitors are allowed in the barns for night checks, and they must wear appropriate footwear. The Overall Championships Organizer must approve any competitor requests for barn access outside of posted barn hours.

Coaches Coaches are mandatory in Show Jumping and allowed in all other mounted disciplines. Each coach incurs a $15 per discipline fee. All coach forms must be completed online prior to arrival. Refer to appropriate coach forms and rulebooks for details about coaching responsibilities and expectations.
AWARDS
AWARDS CEREMONY Award ceremonies will be held in the Blue Ridge arena and are scheduled based on conclusion of discipline competitions. Ceremonies will take place between 2:00 and 6:00 pm. Please watch for announcements on specific times. Overall Awards Gold, silver, and bronze medals will be awarded to the top three teams in each division of each discipline (Tetrathlon pins individual division winners). Placing ribbons to all competitors. Horse Management Awards All mounted disciplines will receive Horse Management team awards. First-place teams will receive Margo Leithead Awards. Discipline Specific Awards Please see discipline sections below for information about discipline awards.
BREED AWARDS Competitors in Standard Divisions are eligible for Breed Awards. American Connemara Pony Society Award Awarded to the highest-placed registered Connemara purebred or half-bred in Dressage, Eventing, and Show Jumping Standard divisions. To be eligible, a copy of the pony’s registration must be submitted to awards@ponyclub.org by July 5.
Thoroughbred Incentive Program (TIP) Awards All Standard divisions of Dressage, Eventing, Polocrosse, Show Jumping, Tetrathlon and Western Dressage at Championships are eligible for TIP Awards. Open to all Thoroughbreds registered with The Jockey Club or a foreign Thoroughbred stud book recognized by The Jockey Club. Riders and Owners must apply for a TIP Number (there is no fee to apply, more information at tjctip.com). Competitors must submit their TIP number when filling out the mount information in their Championships Entry.
RECOGNITION AWARDS Scandalously DanDee Best Presented Pair Award Presented to one competitor per discipline who goes above and beyond in presentation and turnout of both mount and rider for the horse inspection. Competitor is chosen by the inspection panel. Tiny But Mighty Character Award Awarded to one member per discipline who displays excellent character both in and out of the arena. Members are chosen based on recommendations from the horse management staff, volunteers, and discipline organizing volunteer staff.
Cleveland Bay USPC Championships Award Awarded to the highest placed registered pure or partbred Cleveland Bay in the Standard divisions of all mounted disciplines. To be eligible, competitors must complete the application by July 1 of the competition year. For more information visit clevelandbay.org or email info@clevelandbay.org. Draft Cross Breeders and Owners Association Rising Star Award (DCBOA) Awarded to the top scoring DCBOA rider (riding a DCBOA registered horse) in Dressage, Eventing, Show Jumping, Polocrosse or Tetrathlon in the Standard divisions. It is a replica of the gold “I Love Pony Club” pin that belonged to Robert Dover’s mother. Mrs. Dover’s original pin is on display at USPC headquarters in Lexington, Ky. The Upper-Level Dressage Award Award goes to the First Level or above rider with the highest average score (technical and musical). The average score must exceed 58%.

A nonmember may participate as a handler, rider, driver, owner, lessee, agent, coach or trainer at Regular Competitions, Eventing Competitions, Dressage Competitions, Reining Competitions and Combined Driving Competitions upon payment of a $45 Show Pass fee. The American Polocrosse Award for Exemplary Sportsmanship This award will be given annually to the USPC Polocrosse competitor (including horse managers), whose actions and behavior best exemplify excellent sportsmanship during the USPC Championships competition in the standard division. APA will award the recipient with an APA pin and one year’s paid membership to the APA. Selection will be made by the Chief Umpire, CHMJ, and the TD. The “Cadillac Memorial Trophy” This is an annual award given by the Diemer Family in memory of their great Polocrosse mare Cadillac. Along with the honor of being named, the best horse is awarded a leather halter with nameplate “Best Horse.” This will be awarded in the standard division. Selection will be made by the umpires based on fitness, agility, and responsiveness of the mount.

It is the competitor and parents’ responsibility to arrange for competitor transportation to this site. LOCAL WEATHER As North Carolina can be very hot and humid at this time of year, please make sure participants and horses are prepared for these conditions. Chaperones should be prepared to furnish their participants with plenty of appropriate liquids, fruit, etc., and check each day to see that sufficient liquid is being consumed. Participants are expected to have an ample supply of water and if necessary, electrolytes for their mounts. Please refer to Appendix II of your discipline rulebook for information regarding heat illness and clinical signs.

ARRIVAL DATES All riding disciplines may arrive starting at noon on Wednesday, July 27 and they must arrive by 10 am on Thursday, July 28. NO EARLY ARRIVALS OR LAYOVERS ON-SITE. FENCE, which is close to the facility has the ability to handle a limited number of early arrivals. Please call to speak to a representative at 828-859-9021. There shall be no arrivals between the hours of midnight and 7 am.

PARKING
Vehicles Parking is permitted in designated areas only. Only licensed vehicles with licensed operators will be permitted.
ARRIVAL EMAIL An email with details regarding the competition venue, arrival procedures will be sent to all Championships Competitors the week before the competition begins. An email with stabling assignments will be sent to competitors on July 27. Please review and print a copy of the emails for reference.

EQUINE TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS Equine Travel Requirements and Veterinary Health Papers Traveling with your equine across state lines takes careful planning and forethought. Changes in travel requirements change from day to day because of ongoing disease outbreaks and concerns. As a horse owner, it is your responsibility to verify the requirements in place at the time of your travel. The North Carolina Department of Agriculture & Consumer Services has a very helpful website for your planning, as well as the Equine Disease Communication Center. Currently all horses must have a negative Coggins within one year. Horses originating from outside of North Carolina are required to have a Certificate of Veterinary Health (CVI) within 7 days. Coggins and CVI must be valid for the duration of the competition and travel to and from North Carolina. All horses must also have proof of EHV-1, EHV-4, Influenza, (Rhinopneumonitis), and WNV vaccinations within the past 6 months. A reminder, these requirements may change, and it is the competitor/owner’s responsibility to adhere to all equine transportation requirements.

Commercially Shipped Horses Must have an authorized horse-knowledgeable representative to meet the van on arrival and be able to care for horses until competitors are on the grounds. Plan to be at the barns BEFORE your horse is scheduled to arrive. Long hauls are stressful on horses. Please care for them responsibly.

STABLING INFORMATION Stall Specification Permanent stalls, 10’ x 12’, with full doors and mats. Fans are included in each of the stalls. Smoking is not permitted in or around the barn area. No drilling or nailing into doors or walls permitted. Posters, flyers, and other printed materials shall not be stapled on any building. They may be posted on designated bulletin boards only. Stall Assignments Stall assignments will be emailed to the competitor on Wednesday, July 27, and posted on the Championships East website. We are unable to accommodate any special stabling requests. Participants must unload as quickly as possible in the barn areas. No vehicles are allowed in the barn areas except for loading/unloading. All aisles and roadways around barns must be kept open pursuant to fire regulations.

Manure Disposal All manure and used shavings removed from stalls or trailers must be placed in the specified muck locations. Empty shavings bags must be placed in trash cans, and NOT in the manure pits. Medical Waste Hazardous medical waste (needles and syringes and other medical supplies) must be discarded in appropriate sharps containers in the barn and must not be discarded in stalls, manure pits, or trash cans.
HACKING
Exercising and Schooling (Hacking) Exercising and schooling of mounts must take place only in the designated locations. Once competition commences, no hacking will be allowed through the completion of the competition.

Hacking locations and information will be included in the Competitor Arrival email to all participants. Competitors must wear their armband with medical card or bracelet and must have a responsible adult (18 yrs or older) with them at all times when hacking. This adult will be responsible for the safety check. Longeing, once the competition starts, will be according to the HMH Article 72 in the areas designated.

SPECIAL EVENTS
Competitor Party A competitors’ party will be held on Thursday evening following the Opening Ceremonies. Each competitor will receive one ticket in their competitor’s packet. The process for purchasing additional tickets will be posted on the Championships Competition Information page of the USPC website. Saturday Night Lights On Saturday Night, there will be face painting, performers, free rides on the venetian carousel, and a live band. There is fun in store for guests of all ages! In the past, there have been fire twirlers, acrobats, magicians, mechanical bull riding, sand-castle building, shag dancing competitions, vintage car shows, and craft beer festivals. Member Showcase Nationally certified competitors will be exhibiting their talents Saturday evening under the lights of the Tryon Stadium! Come watch USPC’s finest demonstrate Dressage Musical Freestyles, Mounted Games, Gymkhana, Polocrosse, Show Jumping from Eventing, Show Jumping and Tetrathlon competitors as well as "Are you smarter than a Quiz competitor" Trivia, and recognition of all stable managers.
Polocrosse – Cooling Out and Tricks to Nail the Turnback for the Horse Did you know there are simple, minor things that you can do to nail the horse's turnback on the first try? We will discuss tricks and things anyone can do to make sure their horse sparkles during their turnback checks! Quiz – Get Your Juices Flowing, a trip through a life-sized digestive tract This workshop will include names of parts and their functions and will be appropriate for everyone from the unrated through H-A candidates. It features visits by various internal parasites, in areas they affect. Show Jumping – What is an Equitation Judge Looking For? How your equitation round is scored? The equitation judges will discuss what they are looking for in an equitation round and how it is scored. Tetrathlon – Shooting Learn to perfect the one phase that you have the most control over. Get tips from Olympic shooters on shooting stance, sighting-in your pistol properly, breathing techniques, and how to practice for a consistent score every time.
WORKSHOP INFORMATION
Workshops are open to everyone and required for Modified Championships competitors. Check discipline schedules for specific times and locations. Dressage – Freestyle 101 Learn the importance of music selection and choreography as you design your freestyle. Eventing – Vet Box An educational workshop on vet box procedures will be offered for competitors in both the Championships and Modified Championships divisions. During this workshop, competitors will be familiarized with vet box procedures, resources, and basic principles for pulling up and cooling out after cross-country. Briefing will also cover post-cooldown strategies to ensure horses (and riders!) are comfortable, sound, and feeling their best for the Jumping Test on the final day of competition. ponyclub.org

Opening Ceremony Every competitor is invited to participate in the Opening Ceremony and stay for the Competitors Party in the Tryon Stadium.
Games – Strategies for Games Play Who knew there was more to playing mounted games than just going fast? This workshop covers strategies for creating effective lineups, improving teamwork among members, and specific gameplay scenarios according to the various games being played.
