AT FIRST GLANCE, a Utah wedding may strictly evoke thoughts of a cozy cabin affair among snow-capped mountains. But to those in the know, Utah’s wedding landscape is open to any style of wedding, from a low-key elopement among the state’s southern red rocks to a high-fashion affair in downtown Salt Lake City. In this book, our goal was to explore the many ways a couple can execute a wedding celebration that is entirely, uniquely ‘them,’ from the venue to the decor, and even with a bit of international flair. Our Inspiration galleries take us from Tuscany (“Morning Glory” p. 114) to Paris (“From Paris, With Love,” p. 132), and from India (“Worlds Collide,” p. 126) to a fairytale wonderland (“Free Floating,” p. 120). THE COUPLE Camille and Tommy’s love story is a modern “Hinge Happily Ever After.” After connecting on the online dating platform, Camille (a Salt Lake City native) and Tommy (a transplant from Littleton, Massachusetts) dated for seven and a half months before taking things to the next level. Tommy had just moved to San Francisco and was visiting Camille in Utah during October when he decided to do something extra special. The pair took a drive through the Alpine Loop to admire Utah’s fall colors. They found a secluded path into a clearing, where they could take some photos and enjoy nature away from the canyon crowds. “We talked about how lucky we felt to be together, and then just as I was starting to wonder if we should go back to the car, Tommy got on one knee,” recalls Camille. “It was so special and private.”

THE WEDDING The couple took their engagement photos at the Downtown SLC Commercial Club venue, and they immediately fell in love with the space’s old world details, from its vintage wainscoting to its towering ceilings and glittering chandeliers. “The white was the perfect backdrop for our colorful florals,” says the bride. Camille approached La Fete Floral and Events with a self-described “color-explosion” vision for her big day, a vision that florist Allison Baddley expertly translated into playful arrangements full of eye-catching interest and texture. Lavender, pink and pale yellow were the main players in this palette, delivering a cool-toned spread to every corner, while still feeling upbeat and youthful. At Bonneville Glen, a fireplace arrangement in subtle pinks and purples welcomed the couple to the end of their ceremony aisle, where Camille’s uncle officiated. Cousins

played violins during the family procession down the aisle, led by the couple’s niece Charlotte as the flower girl. “When it was time for [us] to exchange vows, we abandoned the [altar] and ducked aside into a little bit of shade, so we could soak in the moment instead of battling the heat.” For the ceremony and pre-reception events, Camille wore a custom-designed wedding gown by Penelope’s Gowns, who also crafted the mother-of-the-bride’s wedding gown in the 1990s. “It was a dream to have Penelope make my gown, and it turned out even better than I had imagined.” The bespoke gown featured billowing tulle sleeves, a fitted v-neck bodice and

flowing skirts in patterned lace. For a bit of shine, the bride also wore jewelry gifted to her by her late grandparents. Equally chic, Tommy donned a classic blue suit and a pale blue necktie.

THE PARTY Back inside the venue, guests enjoyed a catered menu of on-trend handheld items, from vegetable gyoza and a cantina-style salsa bar to BBQ pork steamed buns and gelato stations. Three signature mocktails graced the bar: pomegranate limeade with fresh mint, a blackberry basil mule and pineapple mint mojitos. Primed for dancing, the bride swapped her custom gown for a dazzling sequin jumpsuit

that fit the celebratory mood. Tommy and Camille’s personalized playlist was a crucial element of their wedding vision, so DJ Shane Taylor arrived on scene to showcase their curated tracks and keep guests dancing. The couple led the festivities with a first dance to “Golden Hour” by Kacey Musgraves, and midway through the number the DJ invited their parents to join. Afterward, “My Girl” played over the speakers, and every guest was invited to grab someone they love and join in on the fun.

THE HONEYMOON Following their carefree wedding day, Camille and Tommy embarked on a honeymoon adventure to Riviera Maya, Mexico.

THE COUPLE Jon & Tito first met in 2009, as friends while in separate relationships. “We stayed in touch throughout the years, even when Tito relocated to Los Angeles for work.” Nearly a decade after their initial friendship, Tito (newly single) moved to NYC to take a new job with L’Oreal. Jon’s late husband had passed away that summer, and the pair decided to reconnect over a friendly dinner. That dinner quickly turned into a first date, leading them through deep discussions well into the night. In August 2020, to celebrate Tito’s 37th birthday, Jon arranged a beautiful starlit dinner for 20 of their closest friends at the couple’s New Jersey home. After dinner, Jon gave a champagne birthday toast to Tito that stretched into a profession of love and desire to spend the rest of their lives together. He produced a surprise ring from his pocket—and without a dry eye in sight, Tito gave Jon a big hug and immediately accepted the proposal.

THE WEDDING These two stylish grooms knew they wanted a venue that could be dressed up and dressed down simultaneously, and Wanship’s Blue Sky Lodge was the perfect choice. The couple’s pasture-view outdoor ceremony was held on the lawn and featured exquisitely minimalist florals and decor. Elongated gold vessels lined both aisle

and altar, presenting elegantly draped monochrome calla lily bouquets, backed by bunches of dense greenery. Guests looked on, seated in sleek black chairs. Jon and Tito were each escorted down the aisle by their mothers, and were married by Jon’s brother, Steven, with rings presented by the couple’s dog, Chloe, who arrived on-scene decked in burgundy florals and white tulle frills. Both Tito and John sported custom midnight blue tuxedos. For the reception, they swapped their classic black ties for feathered ones, and Jon donned suspenders patterned with the scales of justice, gifted to him by his parents when he entered law school. The stately, masculine decor continued at the reception. “We wanted a masculine, dark and sexy vibe for our wedding that also respected the natural scenery of the mountains.” Within Blue Sky’s barn venue, neutral tones accented by burgundy blooms and details enrich every surface. Rich, leatherlike browns stand out against matte-black and metallic foundations, with every detail glittering under the venue’s strings of lights. The room’s centerpiece was a branch chandelier, dripping with brilliant white orchids.

THE PARTY A plated dinner for all 110 guests awaited beyond the barn doors. The menu’s Utah trout and bison nodded to the rustic venue, while late-night burgers and fries coupled with dancing in true party style. The couple chose a unique all-black cake accented with violet figs to foster their sleek, minimal vibe, and inside was a surprising chocolate and peanut butter dessert. Led by DJ Chu, Tito and Jon danced the night away with their family and friends, sipping signature cocktails named for the couple’s Asbury Park, Chelsea, and Park City homes. Their first slow dance was to “Stand by Me” by Skylar Grey, immediately followed by an upbeat Puerto Rican salsa to “Suavemente” by Elvis Crespo, in honor of Tito’s Caribbean heritage.

THE HONEYMOON Jon and Tito enjoyed three days at the Bulgari Hotel in Dubai exploring the city and adventuring on dune buggies. They followed it with a St. Regis stay in the Maldives, snorkeling and diving in the crystal blue waters.

THE COUPLE Eliza and James’s first encounter occurred nearly a decade before their marriage, when they followed each other on social media. Eliza was a high school sophomore and James a senior upon their first connection, but until adulthood they remained virtual friends only. The two finally met in person in 2021 and the rest, as they say, is history. One of the pair’s favorite activities while dating was sharing dinner together on the balcony of James’s Salt Lake City apartment. One evening about a year into their relationship, James surprised Eliza during their nightly meal by getting on one knee and asking her to marry him, with the lights of the city shining as his backdrop. Of course, Eliza accepted. “We ate dinner on the balcony together almost every night the first summer we were dating,” Eliza recalls. “We like to say that is where we fell in love.”

The couple tied the knot in a bright June ceremony at a relative’s home in Salt Lake City. “I’ve always wanted to get married outside, in a place that is special to me,” says Eliza. “My mother was married at her family home and as the first child to get married in my family, carrying on the tradition felt right.” Eliza’s wedding day vision included luxurious blooms and loads of color—a true garden party. The first garden-chic moment (delivered by event planner Michelle Leo Events and Artisan Bloom) was the ceremony arch. A towering stone installation in the residence’s backyard served as the ideal backdrop for a bursting pink arch, where the ceremony vows and speeches took place. Opposite James in his classic black, Eliza wore a multi-layered Lazaro A-Line gown with floral texture and a hand-embroidered floral veil to match the garden scene. Two bracelets from her late grandmothers played supporting roles in the accessory department, delivering shine to the bride’s otherwise sleek presentation. As Eliza walked down the aisle, she carried an equally sleek bouquet of pale pink calla lilies, in beautiful contrast to the full-bodied

On either side of the couple, six bridesmaids wore peach-colored satin gowns, while the groomsmen stood uniformly in black suits and pink-accented boutonnieres. The couple exchanged rings handed down by the groom’s family, following speeches about love delivered by James’s older sister and Eliza’s grandfather.

THE PARTY Following the big “I Do,” the couple and their guests moved the party to a soaring sailcloth tent. In perfect harmony with the bridal party’s gorgeously paired attire, the guests’ attire also reflected the “garden party” theme. Every attendee arrived dressed to the nines in florals and linens, creating a guest lineup that appeared as curated as the design itself. Peach and pink floral arrangements dotted the space, sitting atop vinepatterned linens that accentuated the garden-style appeal. Twinkling lights, strung along the seams and supports of the tent, sparkled in the reflections of tall floating candles, delivering a delightful dose of magic to the summer evening. At the bride’s request, a side table included a “legacy display,” showcasing the wedding photos of family members, and tributes to loved ones who had passed away. “This was one of my favorite parts of our wedding,” Eliza says. Guests dined on peach-and-burrata salad and an elevated version of “steak frites,” the bride’s favorite meal. Culinary Crafts presented hanger steak with chimichurri sauce and fries, with a side of classic Utah fry sauce. For dessert, two tiers of decadent wedding cake featured the couple’s favorite flavors: double chocolate and strawberry lemonade. Following dinner, the party hit the dance floor. Eliza & James shared their first dance to “Forever After All” by Luke Combs, then spent the rest of the evening dancing with their loved ones. At the end of the night, the couple made their getaway in style, driving off in Eliza’s grandfather’s vintage Thunderbird before flying away to a Hawaii honeymoon.

THE COUPLE Shannon and Matt were both Midwest transplants to San Francisco when fate landed them both jobs at the same company. After hitting it off in 2016, the pair chased each other through several cities and jobs before finally landing in Denver. One weekend, Matt arranged for both of their parents to visit, and he proposed to Shannon during a walk through their favorite park. After Shannon’s enthusiastic “yes,” she was surprised yet again when, upon returning to the hotel, she discovered several of her closest friends had also flown in to celebrate.

THE WEDDING Shannon and Matt truly embraced Park City’s ski culture during their late-spring celebration at St. Regis Deer Valley. “We wanted to bring everyone together for an intimate ski weekend,” Shannon says. “Park City was one of the first places Matt and I took a ski trip together.” The couple captured the theme with a one-of-akind stationery suite, featuring a custom watercolor of the wedding destination and elegant letterpress invitations, all bound with a custom-cut gondola tag. The personalization continued on paper pieces throughout the wedding: from welcome bags to bar napkins with the pair’s pup printed on them. Color brought a cheerful vibrancy to the wedding’s still-snowy winter setting. Embracing a “frosty spring” palette, the event’s design featured a neutral foundation with natural textures such as wicker lanterns, cream sofas and oversized leather ottomans—all brought to life by a bounty of blooms. “We wanted all of the events to feel refined and upscale, yet still welcoming, cozy and fun,” says Shannon.

THE CEREMONY Guests, warmed by roaring fires and cozy blankets, looked on as Shannon walked the aisle in a custom-designed Anne Barge gown, wrapped in an elegant white stole to match her bridesmaids. Matt wore a custom navy suit by Joshua Gold—his fraternity-brother-turned-personal clothier— ski-themed dress socks and a pair of leather oxfords purchased on a Portugal getaway with his soon-to-be-wife. Both bride and groom kept accessories minimal, but Shannon’s engagement ring got a new partner in the form of her greatgrandmother’s wedding band. The couple signed a hand-painted Israeli Ketubah and were wed by Rev. Anita Gordon under a chuppah draped with Shannon’s late grandfather’s tallis. Their vows were hand-written, and their labradoodle, Kona, barked her own vows as well.

THE PARTY Following a welcome dinner at The Vintage Room apres-ski bar honoring Matt’s Mediterranean heritage with a raw bar, focaccia and paella, the couple worked with the team at St. Regis to design a menu celebrating the seasonal specialties of Utah. This included braised leek soup, a beet and Heber Creamery goat cheese salad, bison with huckleberry and ruby trout with root vegetables. Each dish was paired with wine from the couple’s favorite regions, including Marlborough, Willamette and Sonoma. Dessert was no small affair. “We both love cake, particularly indulgent, nostalgic flavors,” says Shannon. Their cake boasted three decadent layers: Oreo, Boston Cream and coconut cream. Signature drinks were poured all weekend long, including scotch-spiked cocoa, fig-and-herb spritz medleys, campfire whiskey Manhattans and Lavender French 75, made with the couple’s favorite Botanist gin and a sprig of fresh thyme. The couple fully customized their bar, outfitting every shelf with their preferred spirits from around the world. Music City Groove had all guests dancing for the duration of the evening, including during the couple’s first dance to a John Legend ballad.

THE HONEYMOON Shannon and Matt spent the days after their winter wedding decompressing in the sunny Cayman Islands, and spent their first anniversary in

THE COUPLE April and Ben met while attending law school at Chapman Law in Orange, California, where April grew up. Now both lawyers, the pair tied the knot in a beautiful fall ceremony in Ben’s hometown of Salt Lake City. Prior to the big day, they were engaged for two years after Ben popped the question while on a hike on a trail overlooking Salt Lake’s capitol building.

THE WEDDING The couple’s wedding day was a stunning blend of tradition and culture, classic colors and subtle nods to each of the newlyweds’ personalities. In La Caille’s atrium, Rev. Craig Gordon led a beautiful ceremony backed by an arch brimming with seasonal greenery and pristine white florals. The bride described the wedding design as a mix between the suavity of James Bond and the timeless beauty of Downton Abbey, two shows the couple enjoy. “We wanted to be true to ourselves with our design,” April said. “We put ourselves into all the little details.”

April walked down the aisle in a richly-beaded Erin Cole gown, with customized details including an oversized bow accent and trailing shoulder ribbons. The bride accessorized with Erin Cole jewelry and a shimmering coat of 24 Carat nail polish by Caronia—her late grandmother’s signature shade. Ben wore a stylish blue suit and chess-themed cufflinks (both bride and groom are avid chess players, and nods to the game made appearances throughout the event). Following the vows, the couple also incorporated a unity veil, candle, cord and coins as part of a Filipino wedding tradition called Las Arras, in honor of April’s heritage. Selected wedding sponsors helped with every element of the unity ceremony, offering more opportunities to include special friends and family members.

THE PARTY This wedding’s menu is proof that a celebration at La Caille is never fully dressed without a show of talent from the restaurant’s talented chefs. Once seated at candle-lit and floral-laden tables, guests enjoyed a full three-course French meal, complete with five-onion soup, New York strip with caramelized onion and au gratin potatoes, and salted caramel pot de crème for dessert. The venue also provided a classic patisserie spread, including chocolate peanut butter tarts, coconut panna cotta and lemon cream tarts. As favors, guests each received a sampling of French macarons. For the final treat of the evening, the couple cut into a crème brûlée cake adorned with sugar Sego Lilies. Two signature drinks infused more of the couple’s personality into the festivities. A classic paloma, dubbed “The King’s Gambit,” paid homage to Ben’s favorite chess opening, while April’s drink, a sidecar called “The Twizzle,” celebrated her figure skating hobby. To celebrate the evening, DJ Eli Fillmore brought the party with a playlist of danceable classics. The bride and groom performed their first dance (choreographed by April’s brother) to a medley of love songs: “Can’t Help Falling In Love,” by Elvis Presley; “How Deep is Your Love,” by the Bee Gees; and “La Vie En Rose,” sung by Louis Armstrong. Afterward, a montage of childhood photos played while the pair danced with their parents. With sparklers in hand, the guests created a big exit for the newlyweds as they sent them off in style. On her way out the door, April donned a fur coat given to her by her aunt, a further nod to her heritage and loved ones. April and Ben plan to honeymoon in Europe.

THE COUPLE Native Texans Jodie and Evan met during a mutual friend’s birthday dinner. From that night bloomed a beautiful relationship filled with laughter and adventure. Five years later, Evan decided to pop the question. During a vacation to one of the couple’s favorite beach locales, Key West, Evan brought Jodie to Smathers Beach where he lowered onto one knee. To Jodie’s surprise, photographers popped out of hiding places to capture the incredibly magical moment.

THE WEDDING To showcase their love of travel and the outdoors, Jodie and Evan chose to host their celebration at The Red Earth Venue in Moab, complete with jaw dropping red rock views and rustic bohemian flair. Each detail, from the guests attire to the event’s floral design, was meticulously thought out to reflect the couple’s love story. A palette of earthy taupes complimented the venue’s desert surroundings, while warm berry tones added pops of color. “Earthy tones symbolize our grounded love,” Jodie says. “The rich warm hues represented our fiery passion.” For added luxe and comfort, chic loungers, fire pits and fresh florals adorned the al fresco celebration. The couple was joined by 45 of their closest friends and family members, “allowing us to fully savor the breathtaking desert views with the people who meant the world to us,” Jodie recalls. Against the stark crimson cliffs, Jodie was a vision of bridal beauty in her off-shoulder beaded gown by Louvienne. “Every moment I spent in it made me feel like an absolute queen,” she says.

Floating down the aisle, Jodie focused on her husbandto-be dressed in his dapper sand-hued suit by Adam Ross. Of course, the couple could not take their next step into forever without the presence of their pooch Oliver, who joined Jodie and Evan at the altar in his adorable custom wedding attire. Throughout their special day, Jodie and Evan prioritized private moments for just the two of them. Before the ceremony, the couple shared their vows back-to-back with only the solitude of the Moab desert as their witness. Between their tears of happiness, Evan couldn’t resist reaching back to feel Jodie’s dress and envision her bridal look. Another intimate memory, the couple stole away during the reception to snap a few golden-hour photos. “It allowed us to slow down and savor the incredible day we had crafted together,” says Jodie.

THE PARTY Self-proclaimed foodies, Jodie and Evan wanted their menu to showcase their love of culinary exploration, and the catering pros at Moab Chef were up to the challenge. Guests enjoyed a selection of appetizers during cocktail hour, complete with customized napkins with Oliver’s face and drinks from mobile bar service The Tipsy Trailer. Once the party moved inside Red Earth’s Glass House venue, Jodie and Evan hit the dance floor for their first dance to ‘Kiss Me,’ by Dermot Kennedy. “We’ve seen Dermot perform while we were dating, again during our engagement and even had the pleasure of meeting him in person as a married couple,” Jodie shares. “His music is deeply intertwined with our love story.” Between dancing and celebrating, guests enjoyed a dessert bar loaded with a variety of treats, from cupcakes to gluten-free cookies and a smattering of salads and dinner options. The couple’s three-tier white wedding cake was topped with sweet blooms and frosted with almond buttercream. As dusk settled on the desert horizon, Jodie and Evan toasted “forever” with their closest circle.

POST-WEDDING ADVENTURE Moab offers a bounty of excursions for thrill-seekers and outdoor enthusiasts, and the married couple wasted no time enjoying them. The wedding party reconvened for a day-after brunch and then hit the trails for a private sunset excursion in Hells Revenge dune field. Jodie recalls the unique experience as the perfect end to their celebration. “It was a pulsepounding adventure that we highly recommend to anyone seeking unforgettable memories.”

THE COUPLE When bride Ida was an undergraduate student at the University of Utah, her cousin recruited her to work in a lab, in order to help Ida get experience for dental school applications. After Ida joined the lab, she began noticing photos of another student in the PhD program and asked who he was. Her cousin shared that Nick, a fellow bioengineering PhD candidate, was researching in Paris and was scheduled to return the following semester. Ida was holding out for the right guy, and finally met Nick upon his return at a grad student night out. “As he walked up to me, I just knew this guy was different,” says Ida. “I thought he could be the one!”

THE PROPOSAL Ida and Nick began dating in March of 2015. Fast forward to 2021, when Nick decided to treat Ida to the trip of a lifetime. Ever since childhood, she had wanted to go to Africa to see wild elephants, and Nick had developed a dream proposal in tandem with this dream trip. Nick and Ida traveled across Tanzania for two weeks, along with a photographer and videographer. At the end of the safari, everyone took a sunset drive through the Serengeti. To Ida’s surprise, Nick had hired trackers to look for elephants. They drove over a hill, and found a herd of hundreds of elephants waiting for them. Ida jumped from the car to watch them migrate across the field, and she turned around to find Nick on one knee. Her dream vacation ended in the perfect engagement story.

THE WEDDING Drawing from her Persian roots, Ida envisioned her wedding as a luxury middle-eastern celebration that would make her feel like a Persian princess. After a venue hunt, the couple

decided on Snowpine Lodge to host their intimate wedding. “We loved that it was up in the mountains, but also was slightly modern in its decor,” says Ida. “Nowhere else has a backdrop like they do, and the hotel was the perfect size.” The couple also desired a timeless design, so their wedding memories would feel glamorous and refined for years to come. To accomplish this, Braelynn Tuitupou of Belle Bodas Events created a stunning palette of cream, blush and other neutral hues that contrasted with the mountain and achieved the elegance the couple craved.

THE CEREMONY The ceremony’s backdrop was a breathtaking cream arch, laden with a wide variety of textured blooms that helped the arrangement stand out against the picture-perfect backdrop. The union began with a traditional Persian ceremony which includes sitting behind a sofreh aghd displaying symbolic items and reading Persian poetry by Hafez. Meanwhile, happily married women ground sugar over the heads of the couple while Ida and Nick fed each other honey to signify sweetening their lives together. Then, the couple exchanged traditional Western vows and rings and Nick surprised his bride by reciting part of his vows in Farsi. During these festivities, Ida donned a strapless Karoza Bridal ball gown with enough floral detail to equal the show-stopping wedding design. Her jewelry and accessories included a custom diamond set, which Ida’s mother flew to Iran to design and bring to the wedding per Persian tradition. Ida’s parents also gifted Nick a Versace watch to wear with his sleek black attire.

THE PARTY Back inside the lodge, guests prepared for dinner, hors d’oeuvres, cocktails and dancing. The menu included Utah favorites including bison and elk meatballs and smoked trout blinis, alongside more unique courses such as cauliflower falafel, vegetarian lasagna and a spread of traditional Persian pastries baked with love by the mother of the bride. A palette of light neutrals graced the design, with gray linens, blush (or gold) monograms and vine details adorning signage throughout the space. Every table showcased equally stunning blush-and-cream florals performing as the ceremony centerpieces. After dinner, the couple’s culture came out in full swing. The duo hired both a DJ and a Persian drummer to play at their reception, and the

newlyweds performed a variety of western and Persian dances for their guests. Following a first dance to “Can’t Help Falling in Love with You,” Ida and her father danced to both “This Dance” by Scott Thomas Laughbridge and to “Sattar” by Aroosi. The groom and his mother danced to “Close Your Eyes” by Michael Bublé, and then guests watched the bridal party perform a Persian knife dance, in which the bridesmaids take the cake knife “hostage,” teasing the groom to get money out of him. Once they’ve gotten enough money, they hand the knife over and allow the happy couple to cut their cake—in this case, a lemon poppyseed confection with strawberry icing.

THE COUPLE Nathan first saw his bride-to-be, Marla, boarding a flight to Hawaii for a mutual friend’s wedding. The only problem was that she was there with her boyfriend. Three years later, Nathan and Marla reconnected on a blind date. “It wasn’t long before we knew there was something new and real special happening between us,” Marla says. Before their engagement, Marla and Nathan were together for an impressive 18 years, 14 of which were spent living an hour apart, separated by bumperto-bumper California traffic. During that time, they suffered joy and pain together, including two breast cancer diagnoses for Marla. After the couple

beat cancer, they finally moved in together and shared many more milestones, Nathan proposed at the summit of their favorite hike on Park City’s Iron Mountain—a moment marked by music, drinks, happy tears and a custom sapphire engagement ring.

THE WEDDING “We always said if we were ever to get married, it would be in Park City in the fall.” River Bottoms Ranch served as the perfect modern rustic setting for this artistic autumn celebration. “I am an artist, and I looked at the wedding as an art piece,” says Marla. Marla and Nathan tied the knot during an intimate, rainy-day ceremony under the venue’s pavilion, while an acoustic guitar played softly and mountain views sprawled in every direction. “The weather brought this unexpected beauty to the property and made for really unique memories of our day,” says Marla. Marla walked down the aisle in a beaded ivory Rosa Clara gown and a flowing veil with pearl detailing. Blue earrings and a glittering blue heirloom bracelet borrowed

from a friend served as the bride’s somethings old, new, borrowed and blue. The groom wore a dark navy plaid suit by Peter Millar, while the groomsmen were dressed in gray Ted Baker suits accessorized with Tissot watches. The bridesmaids, Marla’s nieces, wore gowns in jade and black, accented with alpaca shawls and live floral hairpieces. Artfully structured florals in rich burgundy, jade, blue and gold hues were key to the event design accompanied by cream-colored dried ferns. On the reception tables, Ikebana-style arrangements mixed luxe flowers, textured grasses and dried plants in a variety of complementary shapes, styles and palettes. Even each individual bridesmaid bouquet had its own unique color scheme and texture profile. “Each arrangement was a little piece of art,” says Marla. Peacock feathers appeared in the bridal bouquet, as well as on the family table in honor

of Marla’s mother, who she lost to breast cancer. “We had peacocks growing up, and all of our friends and family have always linked my mother to anything peacock.” Bare wood tables stood as warm foundations for delicate burgundy gauze runners and swaths of glittering glass accented by candlelight. High in the rafters, the venue’s iron chandelier hung clad in colorful fall foliage. The reception design featured a variety of spaces for guests to socialize, including a cozy lounge area by the fire, food stations and bar tables adorned in Marla’s floral art pieces.

THE PARTY When guests arrived, they were greeted with hot cider and spiced chai. At cocktail hour, bacon wrapped dates with smoked goat cheese and honey, mushroom arancini with truffle aioli, and similarly decadent appetizers circulated the room. Dinner featured small plate stations, offering made-to-order salads, short rib, artisan grilled cheese sandwiches and salmon entrees. Evident to all, the couple and the catering pros Culinary Crafts put just as much emphasis on the art of food as the art of design. Following the beautiful meal, DJ Rob Bennion pumped up the party with songs for all generations to dance to. The newlyweds performed their first dance to “Standing on the Moon,” sung live by Bruce Hornsby, and Marla and her father danced to “Your Song,” by Elton John, the mother-of-the-bride’s favorite tune.

THE COUPLE Michajah and McCabe met in the design program of their college in St. George Utah. The pair, along with Michajah’s best friend and roommate Nayvi, became fast friends through the duration of their college experience. After graduating in May 2021 and breaking off a long-term relationship, Michajah discovered possible feelings for her former college friend McCabe. After reconnecting, McCabe eventually admitted he had had feelings for her for a long time. “Everyone but me seemed to know about it, and I was somehow the last person to figure it out,” laughs Michajah. “After it all came out, I realized he was my best friend and that I wanted his love forever.” That July, the pair became an official couple, and by September McCabe had bought a ring. He held onto the bling until May 2022 so that he could propose in Bear Lake where he first asked Michajah to be his girlfriend. In Michajah’s words, “It was an obvious yes.”

THE WEDDING Just a couple of months later, the couple sealed the deal with the ultimate vintage-chic ceremony on a family friend’s Salt Lake City estate. As the director of a Makerspace for Utah Tech University, Michajah had all the resources she needed to design her own custom wedding. It began with the stationery: Armed with a pattern from an heirloom handkerchief, a simply-chic palette of black, white and brass and a monogram that she dreamed up herself, this bride hand-picked and laser-cut each piece of the invitation suite, complete with ticket stubs to introduce their “Rock Meets Royal” theme. “The vibe suited us so well,” says the bride. “At a glance, McCabe and I appear to be exact opposites but we just work together so well.”

From there, Michajah added her signature flair to every table with handmade and vintage decor items that she meticulously sourced to fit their desired vibe. Crystal mugs, hand-cut and lettered signage, thrifted teapots and retro cherubs were the highlights of the design, “I was loving anything eclectic with ornate details,” Michajah says. Amid it all, a romantic and whimsical spread of colorful florals brought the classic and cool fairytale event to life. “Having a beautiful space ensured our wedding would feel like a fairytale.” Michajah walked down the aisle to a quartet rendition of “Something Just Like This.” She was draped in a long-sleeved satin gown, complete with an elegant plunge front, open back and oversized bow to bring her signature edge to the look. Waiting for her under a be-floraled iron arch, McCabe stood in a classic black tuxedo. After a laugnter-and-love-filled ceremony perfomed by minister Greg Jorgenson, the couple returned down the aisle, this time as husband and wife.

THE PARTY Soon after the ceremony and cocktails, the couple shed their bridal attire in favor of a cutoff denim jacket for McCabe and a lace corset for Michajah, to join their guests for the wedding party of the century. Following a meal of salmon and prime rib and an afternoon of lawn games and disposable-camera selfies, the groom jumped on stage to join his bandmates as their group NVM performed a full rock show that guests danced along to. “It was the first time our family members from out of town were able to see McCabe play live,” Michajah explains. The band played “Fade Into You,” by Inhaler for the couple’s first dance, and served as the soundtrack to a truly rock and roll evening. At the end of the evening, Michajah and McCabe cut into a stunningly elaborate, six-tier cake, adorned with decadent fondant swirls and vintage Wilton cherub pillars, reminiscent of the iconic Grace Kelly confection. The flavors included gluten-free tiramisu, chocolate caramel and white-chocolate raspberry. Throughout the event, guests had a ball applying custom, temporary tattoos drawn by the groom, and curating their own “ink” to match McCabe’s impressive sleeves.

THE HONEYMOON Continuing the celebration after their big day, the couple spent the following days at the Little America, staycationing and brunching with their closest friends.

WHEN DREAMING UP the look of your wedding’s dining tables, the very first element to consider is your dining style. Work with your caterer to determine what best fits your event, as the style of service will affect your event’s flow, the amount of design space on the tables themselves and the number of tables needed in the venue. “Preselected plated dinners always require assigned seating to ensure each guest gets the correct meal,” explains Meagan CraftsPrice, Marketing Manager with luxury caterer Culinary Crafts. According to the

pros, assigned seats thoughtfully arranged by the couple and their planner speed up the transition into dinner, ensuring every guest knows exactly where to go. To elevate the look and feel of your reception layout, planner Michelle Cousins of Michelle Leo Events almost always recommends a mix of table shapes, sizes and finishes to create a striking visual impact. “Assorted table dimensions present opportunities to create a variety of designs, while providing a similar enough vein that they all complement each other,” she says.

“In especially large spaces, this can be a very impressive look for guests to take in all at once.” Then comes the fun part: the trimmings. According to Cousins, when getting into the nuts and bolts of your table design, the linen is the foundation. Therefore, tablecloths and coverings should be the first step in your design journey. This allows you to anchor your design with a playful pattern or a bold color, if desired, without overworking the final appearance of the table. “I wish more brides were brave enough to utilize patterns in their event design,” says Cousins. “It will be more memorable, and it doesn’t have to be trendy. It’s all in how you use it.” When zooming in to the tablescape design itself, both pros agree that family-style dining is the service style that most heavily impacts your tabletop layout. “With a traditional family-style service in which platters are left on the table, you have to provide real estate for those platters,” says Cousins. “Often, that means you have to cut back on candles and floral.” But never fear—a reduction in traditional decor needn’t equate to ho-hum event design. Rather, catering pros like Price encourage couples to let the food deliver beauty to a tablescape. “Food is the social catalyst at your wedding,” Price explains. “Tablescapes that include food as
