Spotlights Program Pulse: Kids Cafe Just before Thanksgiving every year, we invite approximately 200 children to our warehouse to share a Thanksgiving meal with all the traditional fixings. This meal is prepared by our dedicated Kids Cafe kitchen staff, and volunteers from Questar join us in serving the children. Many of these kids don’t get dinner at home, let alone the type of Thanksgiving meal that so many of us are accustomed to. Seeing the faces light up at our Kids Cafe Thanksgiving meal serves as an incredible reminder of what a lifeline this program is for so many Utah children. This event is just one piece of our amazing after-school program, which provided over 326,000 meals to kids at 52 sites last year alone. Most are hot meals, while some are bagged meals. Bagged meals are served at libraries, where kids often spend long hours after school because their hardworking parents can’t afford afterschool care.

Scouting For Food: March 18 This March will mark the 31st anniversary of this statewide food drive, which is powered by nearly 55,000 Boy Scouts, Cub Scouts and their leaders across the state. Scouts will be distributing a reminder to leave food at your door by 9:00 a.m. on March 18th. You can also participate in this food drive by making a checkstand donation at your local Smith’s Food & Drug store. Last year’s food drive gathered enough food and funds to provide nearly 1.1 million meals for Utahns facing hunger, and we are looking forward to yet another successful effort this year!

Night at the Warehouse Gala: April 29 This year’s 8th annual Night at the Warehouse gala will encourage attendees to think about all the ways they can Be a Hero: Fight Hunger! All proceeds from this fun evening at our Salt Lake warehouse will benefit Utah Food Bank’s work of Fighting Hunger Statewide. Our super-hero guests will enjoy live and silent auctions, an Iron Chef-style competition, a catered dinner and more. We are already looking for items for our live and silent auctions, as well as gift certificates to local restaurants, so please contact kellyo@utahfoodbank.org if you’d like to donate something. Look for information and ticket sales on our website soon!

Stamp Out Hunger: May 13 This annual national food drive always requires an incredible amount of work by local letter carriers and is one of the largest single-day food drives, both nationally and locally. Last year’s food drive was an incredible success, and we hope this trend continues! To participate, simply leave your bag of non-perishable food donations by your mailbox no later than 9:00 a.m. on May 13th. Look for reminders and donation bags in your mail as the date approaches.

Our mission of Fighting Hunger Statewide is only possible because of the devoted time, talent, energy and resources that the community provides.

Without you, we could not help those who need it most. Here's how you can help: Give Food. Everyone in Utah needs

to eat. When you donate food, you help make sure that everyone can. Donate at a variety of convenient drop-off locations, visit your local food pantry to drop off items or use Utah Food Bank’s Virtual Food Drive to save a trip to the store.

Give Time. It’s been said that time is

our most valuable commodity. At Utah Food Bank, we’ll help you put it to good use. Last year, Utah Food Bank utilized over 82,000 volunteer hours — the equivalent of 40 full-time employees!

Give Money. A $1 donation is actually

$7.81 worth of goods and services in our hands. This is possible through generous food donations and tremendous community support. Utah Food Bank distributes resources statewide, and all contributions are tax-deductible.
