Students’ Union Mass Meeting “80/20 Plan “ ―Tailor module selection to the money in your pocket.‖ This was the call sounded out to students as discussions raged about the recently implemented 80/20 payment plan. Under this rule, students are mandated to pay a minimum 80% of total tuition cost for modules selected, by September 30* or face deregistration. Delta Wright, President of the Student‘s Union stood in staunch opposition to this arrangement, expressing the massive burden that the magnitude of this request has placed on the already beleaguered student population. Her counter proposal for a 60/40 payment plan was rebuffed by Lorence Brown, Chief Business Financial Officer, who described it as unfeasible, and threatening to the University‘s finances. Other important issues discussed were the malfunctioning of the air conditioning units in the SCIT Labs as well as UTech‘s current standing in the process towards gaining Institutional Accreditation. *Note: Following a demonstration by Students lead by the Students‘ Union Council the deadline has been extended to October 15.

UTech Freshers Social was a case of the storm after the calm. Following a formal induction ceremony for all the new students of UTech, to relax and have fun. The night started with the new inductees looking a bit shy and unsure however, quick juggling by the resident DJ‘s saw that mood turn into pure fun and excitement. Soon enough both new and returning students were singing along to their favourite songs, dancing, whining and having a jolly good time. The night ended on a high with great reviews from all who attended, looking forward to Freshers‘ FETE – Induction.
