CAMPUS PROJECTS/DEPARTMENT SPOTLIGHT HVAC SPOTLIGHT
LOGISTICAL SERVICES SPOTLIGHT
The Facilities HVAC Department captured pictures of a crane that was set up on a Saturday in May. It was there for maintenance work on the GEB cooling tower. The alleyway between the GEB and the garage was blocked as well to ensure everyone’s safety while repairs were being made.
Facilities Transfer and Logistics employees are some of the busiest on the campus every day. There is always some type of move happening, or an Archibus ticket needing their help with setting up for events. They even had to help with their own employee appreciation set up but were super excited to do this for their own departmental event. The team, under the supervision of Willie Earl McKinnie put the same amount of dedication in to each work ticket and were quick to set up and remove everything which made for a smooth event.

TSRB BOILER ROOM EMERGENCY Jon Lane Rawlinson, Facilities Engineer
The boiler room on the first floor of TSRB wasn’t insulated and caused the floor above it to heat up badly enough to cause a spray can in a janitor closet to explode. Bill Crewe, project manager, was called and quickly hired an insulation company and scaffolder to remedy the situation. As soon as they arrived the roll-up door between the boiler room and the adjacent chiller room was opened to give the heat somewhere to escape. The Facilities Campus Safety team came out quickly and verified that the fire codes would allow for the door to be opened between the two spaces. Next they applied a high-temperature, heavy-duty insulation to the entire deck above the boilers. The HVAC boiler crew worked in conjunction with the contractor to ensure everything went smoothly. An emergency such as this can involve several facilities personnel to ensure everything moves along quickly. Because of everyone working together, the repair work was completed successfully, under budget and five days ahead of schedule. Without the coordinated efforts of the facilities teams and the hired contractor, the situation could have been worse.
BIOMETRIC SCREENING
Veronica Sanders-Gant, FNP-C University Health Services Thank you to Veronica Sanders-Gant, FNP-C and Kimberly Murphy, medical assistant in University Health Services (UHS for attending the facilities employee appreciation in May to promote health and wellness. They encouraged employees on the importance of a biometrics screening and had a total of 65 employees sign up during the event! Biometric screening is an employer funded initiative to keep employees in good health. The screening consists of several tests to give insight regarding current and potential medical issues. The testing includes checking blood pressure, height, weight, body mass index(BMI), cholesterol and diabetes. The results and the individualized treatment plan are only discussed with the patient. More information will be provided to the campus at a later date regarding scheduling appointments for biometric screenings.
FACILITIES EMPLOYEE APPRECIATION - MAY 2019 Facilities Employee Appreciation is the annual event that employees look forward to so they can relax outdoors under a tent with music, great food, fun and fellowship. The event is catered by Soul Fish Catering and the great food was a hit among employees. This annual event is a great way to say thank you to all of the facilities employees from the Facilities Management team.
