DEPARTMENT OF SURGERY UPDATE ON UKRAINE

The UTHSC Department of Surgery continues to be highly engaged in its relief efforts to support Ukraine. Nia Zalamea, MD, Assistant Professor, Division of General Surgery, Director of the UTHSC Global Surgery Insitute, reported that the last 18-foot container of supplies arrived on May 6 in Kryvyi Rih. Among the donations from Regional One Health (ROH) included operating microscopes, (examined and tested by Dr. Devra Becker) and dermatomes. Plastic surgery wound care supplies and tourniquets were donated by Dr. Xiangxia Liu, and the UTHSC trauma residents. Additonal instruments and OR tables were gifted by the Zalamea family mission, Memphis Mission of Mercy.

Aditya Shah ‘23 and fellow UTHSC medical student Monica Ogunsusi ‘23 recently explored the Ben-Gurion University Medical School for International Health (MSIH). They are supported by the UTSHC Global Surgery Institute’s Herbert Shainberg Scholars Multicultural Health Exchange Program with Ben-Gurion University of the Negev. (Shah/Instagram)
