From the very beginning, the Wildstrubel by UTMB® has been committed to the protection of the environment that makes it one of its main assets: its natural and human environment.
Here are some concrete examples of the actions we have put in place:
• Local catering in collaboration with the restaurants of Crans-Montana;
• Runners’ refreshments, mainly local and organic;
• Reusable tableware, with a zero waste objective on the route;
• Reusable tableware on arrival village. Deposit of CHF 2- required;
• Waste sorting system set up in collaboration with Crans-Montana Exploitation;
• Most of the drinks are made on site to reduce delivery;
• Collective transportation is organised to reduce use of private cars;
• The race caps are made of organic fabric, and the trophies are made of reusable local wood.
Wildstrubel by UTMB® races all take place in mountainous terrain, with some remote areas (no roads or telecommunications...) and weather conditions which can change very quickly (snow, hail, fog, heat (>30°) or intense cold (<-10°), violent wind).
Advice along the route :
- Do not stop at high peaks.
- If you can’t see any way-marker: turn around and go back to the previous marker.
- Follow the marked paths.
The equipment is mandatory for all runners for safety reasons and to ensure fair play. Random checks will be carried out in the start area, at certain refreshment stations and on arrival. Thank you for your collaboration and for giving a warm welcome to the volunteers and race stewards.
Walking poles: watch what you do with your poles particularly at the beginning of the race when there is a high human density. Do not wear the wrist straps on the descents: in case of a rough fall wrist-straps prevent the suitable use of the hands (injuries to shoulders, wrists, forearms or more seriously the head).
Hydration and the consumption of energizing snacks must be adapted to the meteorological conditions and enriched in salt throughout the effort. Keep a good balance between slow and rapid release sugars.
Rest areas are available at aid stations for a few moments of sleep. It is dangerous to stop to sleep alone in open country. Fatigue and the lack of vigilance can cause an accident. Run within your limits (above all over the first part) saving your energy for later to surmount difficult situations which may arise, such as a sudden change of weather conditions.
We would like to remind you that it is mandatory to be in possession of individual accident insurance which covers any eventual costs for search and rescue. In France, Italy and Switzerland. (Repatriation by helicopter costs between 800 and 3000 euros). Such an insurance policy may be taken out with the organization of your choice. In 2022, UTMB® creates its own insurance! For 49€ / year, you are covered for rescue, evacuation and medical care (including helicopter rescue) all over the world. Subscribe here: HTTPS://UTMB.ASSURINCO.COM/
It gives you precious information about the race (follow your race and that of your friends in real time). In the case of SOS, this function sends your position, via text message, to the organization. This represents a precious time gain in providing help, if needed. Attention however, you will still have to call the race HQ (PC Course). A mobile/cell phone is mandatory with the international optional activated throughout the duration of the race, with the battery working well. In no circumstances put your phone in airplane mode because we need to be able to contact you before, during and after the event. Smartphones are higly recommended in order to use the LiveTrail app which is es-
sential for your safety. For runners who are going to be running for more than 15 hours, an additional external battery is highly recommended. Check that the number you have given us as an emergency contact number is that of the person who you wish to be contacted in case of a problem. Very important: In order to improve any medical intervention in case of an incident, verify that you have submitted, on your runner’s page, the telephone number that will be using during the race. You can update it until the start of your race.
IT IS MANDATORY THAT YOU DON’T LEAVE A PERSON IN DIFFICULTY ALONE.
