HUMANS, FIRST AND FOREMOST UTMB® is a story of men and women. A great adventure driven by strong values and a common vision, that of harmony and diversity among people. The valleys that surround Mont Blanc are one of those rare regions where there is still a strong connection between people who live there and the great outdoors. It’s this rapport with nature that unites the inhabitants of the Mont-Blanc region around a common project, that of sharing, beyond the borders, their know-how and their relation with the mountain and its landscapes. AN EVENT OPEN TO THE WORLD
The UTMB® is undeniably a large family composed of women and men, volunteers and service providers, partners and local officials, tourism and mountain professionals, hut owners... They all gather together around a common goal: to share those values and heritage of which they are proud. They share all of this with runners from all over the world, men and women from 5 continents and 100 nations. The last week of August American, Chinese, Japanese, Brazilian, Argentinean, Omani, Spanish, South African and Australian runners meet at the feet of the Mont-Blanc... This is the opportunity for runners and Friends of the UTMB® to meet and experience a great adventure together.
THE EXPERIENCE OF EACH PARTICIPANT AT THE HEART OF THE ORGANIZATION’S CONCERNS
To ensure that this adventure continues throughout the years, UTMB® works to guarantee that each participant’s experience is authentic and complete. High-quality organization, race monitoring, discovery of the territory, beauty of the races... All these features contribute to improve the quality of the experience. UTMB® is definitely a story of women and men united around a common vision: that of diversity, of sharing, excellence and passion.

THANK YOU ! Based on centuries of friendship, exchange and sharing
around the common heritage of the Mont-Blanc, UTMB® has forged strong links with the region. For 17 years, these men and women have been putting their knowhow and expertise at the service of the UTMB® event. Thanks to this excellence and knowledge of the territory, UTMB® is a logistical success that both entertains and shines brightly to the international community, as it passes through 3 countries, 18 municipalities, 7 valleys and 800 km of trails in one week. In each valley, the hospitality and efficiency of these men and women, who the organizing team calls Friends of the UTMB®, participate in the smooth running of the event. With them, it is possible to welcome the entire communities of both trail runners and outdoors enthusiasts under the best conditions every year. Strong bonds were forged around simple and authentic moments: the energy on the starting line, the friendliness of an aid station, the beauty of running at night, the adventures after the race.... The event is an opportunity to gather all this positive energy around a common adventure. UTMB® has been a link between the territories and its inhabitants for 17 editions. Thanks to you all. THE EVENT
ECO-RESPONSIBILITY With an event around Mont Blanc and on a territory unique in the world, it is essential to remain committed to our values and to develop all the necessary actions to preserve this extraordinary nature.
G.E.S.I.
The eco-responsible charter of grands evénements sportifs internationaux The UTMB® is one of first signatories of the Charter for Eco- Responsibility in Big International Sporting Events (GESI). By doing this the organization reaffirms its engagement in favor of sustainable development. This charter is supported by the Minister for Sport, WWF® France and 46 signatories (organizers of sporting events and equipment managers).
RAISING AWARENESS
On the ground, you are going to meet the ambassadors for the environment who have the mission of accompanying you in the protection of the environment. In order to better understand the natural environment in which you evolve, we have created a specific signposting system. Feel free to ask the ambassadors!
CARRY YOUR TRASH
Supporters leave no trash along the race-route. Like the runners, think about carrying your trash in a designated bag.
BYOU
As from this year, the organization will not distribute any disposable cutlery, beakers/cups or bowls at the life bases and refreshment posts. Runners and volunteers are asked to carry their own utensils if they wish to eat hot food (soup, pasta). Why not do the same for your picnics?
PROTECTED NATURAL AREAS
The UTMB® races go through protected nature zones in France, Italy and Switzerland. On the ground, please refer to the signaling system with the current rules. In any case, camping and campfires are forbidden, as is all use of drones. Respect the rules of the nature reserves!
WWF® FRANCE
UTMB® continues its commitment to the environment by partnering with WWF® France Beyond the work to reduce the environmental impact of the UTMB®, the partnership aims to prove that an internationally-known event can promote respect for the environment and participate in the sustainable development of the region it calls home. The five key elements of the new partnership include:
• Support of the UTMB® in the commitments made
under the GESI (Grands événements sportifs internationaux) charter
• Guidance on the actions to be taken following a carbon assessment that will be carried out during UTMB® 2019
• Continuation of the innovative and exemplary
efforts of UTMB® in the field of sustainable development
• Support for UTMB® runners for both biodiversity and lynx projects
• Support in the training of environmental ambassadors
« Two years after the signing by the UTMB® of the charter of 15 eco-responsible commitments of WWF® France and the French Ministry of Sports, we are proud to announce today a partnership to further support the UTMB® in its environmental stewardship. Together, we will demonstrate that it is possible for sporting excellence and exemplary environmental stewardship to coexist. Protecting our planet is a long-term race and we need the big players in the sport to take up this challenge! » Isabelle Autissier, President of WWF® France

RACES
ELITES
Each new edition of the UTMB® is its own epic sporting event, complete with twists and turns, powerful emotions, flashes of brilliance, and no shortage of suspense. Which runners will be attempting to crush the courses this year? Here’s our overview of the favorites for 2019!
UTMB
®
WOMEN’S FAVORITES
After her victory in the 2018 CCC®, which brought her to the attention of the general public, Chinese runner Miao Yao is eager to toe the line at UTMB®. Already victorious in the CCC® and TDS®, Sweden’s Mimmi Kokta is back on the starting line of the UTMB® after dropping from the course in 2018. If she remains healthy, she has the experience to do well. American Katie Schide, one of this year’s trail running revelations, will have everything to gain and nothing to lose.
MEN’S FAVORITES
Xavier Thévenard is back for the UTMB®! If he wins, he will be the first man to rack up a record four UTMB® wins! The race promises to be tight, however, with Spaniard Pau Capell leading the Ultra-Trail® World Tour and Americans Hayden Hawks, Zach Miller and Tim Tollefson in the mix as well. They will have an additional motivation: to become the first American to win the race!
TDS
®
WOMEN’S FAVORITES
The remarkable American, Courtney Dauwalter, is the big favorite of the new TDS® course (145km 9100mD +). Each time she starts a race, it’s simple, she wins! On her way, she will be challenged by Audrey Tanguy (FR) who won in 2018. They will also have to keep a watchful eye on the Swiss runner, Kathrin Götz who displays significant power at ultra-distances.
MEN’S FAVORITES
Very fit for 2 seasons and the winner in last year’s CCC®, British runner Tom Evans is the big favorite. But his victory is far from cinched, as close on his heels will be the Russian, Dimitry Mityaev, third in the TDS® in 2018, and Ludovic Pommeret (FR) winner of the UTMB® in 2016. Both will be serious contenders for the win.
UTMB® 2019

CCC
®
WOMEN’S FAVORITES
Fourth in the World Trail Championships, Spain’s Azara García de los Salmones has shown she is a formidable threat in shorter distances. She still has to prove herself in ultra-distances, unlike the Canadian Ailsa Macdonald and the 23-year-old Australian prodigy, Lucy Bartholomew.
MEN’S FAVORITES
At 41, the triple world trail champion (2016, 2017, 2018), Luis Alberto Hernando Alzaga has nothing left to prove. Still, he continues to test himself against the most competitive races on the planet. He will be accompanied by another trail running legend, Italian Marco De Gasperi, 5th in the CCC® last year in what was his first ultra! The young Chinese, Shen Jiasheng, a new trail running sensation, could be the surprise of this year’s CCC®, which promises to be very competitive.
OCC
WOMEN’S FAVORITES
The New Zealander, Ruth Croft, will try to defend her title, having been victorious in 2018. Croft rarely fails when she starts a race. Along the way, she will be pushed by Sheila Avilés Castaño (SP), current vice-champion of the world of trail along with the Chinese runner, Yangchun Lu, who has had a strong debut in trail running competition.
MEN’S FAVORITES
Ruy Ueda (JP) has signed up to return to UTMB® week after a strong second place finish in the CCC® in 2016 at a mere 23 years old. He will have to deal with the experience of French runner Nicolas Martin, and the speed of Erenjia Jia, last year’s winner and who will no doubt be keen to repeat the feat.

TRANSPORTS
AN AMBITIOUS TRANSPORT POLICY FOR AN ECO-RESPONSIBLE EVENT In an effort to encourage a shift away from individual vehicle use, the UTMB® has put in place an extensive public transport system in collaboration with transportation companies in France (Transdev), Italy (ATR) and Switzerland (TMR). The visiting public will now have easy access to the existing network of public transportation, supplemented by special UTMB®BUS lines. This unique network is available for use by runners, accompanying guests and also for the general public who wish to follow the race all around Mont-Blanc in France, Italy and Switzerland. EXCEPTIONAL TRANSPORTATION FOR AN EXCEPTIONAL EVENT
For those arriving via air travel or train, UTMB® recommends use of the transfer service Mountain Drop-Offs and encourages guests to forego vehicle rental from Geneva as they head towards the valleys of the Mont Blanc region. Once on site, the UTMB®BUS service allows riders to be transported to race starting lines in the 3 countries, with the aim of reducing individual vehicles traveling on the roadways around Mont-Blanc. For accompanying guests and visitors, UTMB® offers unique course transportation opportunities that allow for access to runners at key points along each of the major courses. In the Chamonix Valley, UTMB® also relies on the existing community-wide transportation system provided by the Chamonix Bus and Mont Blanc Express (SCNF) train networks. The local train and bus systems are free to all persons holding a valley guest card, as well as full-time and secondary residents of the region. New for 2019, all visitors who are accompanying a runner and have registered at utmbworld.com will be able to download a transport coupon valid for the Chamonix Bus lines. For those who have no alternative other than a car, UTMB® advocates for and supports carpooling through the online platform available at movici.auvergnerhonealpes.fr

NEW : A PARKING SHUTTLE SERVICE AT LES HOUCHES LAKE AND ENTENDED HOURS FOR THE MONT BLANC TRAMWAY
In order to encourage spectators and accompanying guests to forego use of individual vehicles, a parking area with corresponding shuttle service will be set up in collaboration with the villages of Les Houches and Servoz by the Les Houches Lake area. It will be available for use for the UTMB® start beginning on Friday, August 30th. Signs will be added to the “Route Blanche” (RN205) with information directing drivers to this additional shuttle service. The shuttle will link the parking area with downtown Chamonix. In the Montjoie valley region, the Mont Blanc Tramway, owned by the Haute-Savoie Department and operated by the Compagnie du Mont-Blanc, will operate for additional hours in the evening, with free transportation provided between Le Fayet and the center of SaintGervais. From Saint-Gervais, use of individual vehicles towards Les Contamines will be strictly controlled. Private transportation will be replaced by special UTMB® shuttles. Please consult the web site utmbworld.com, under the heading, “Transport” for information.
TRANSPORTS
NEW!

ACCOMPANYING PERSONS
SUPPORTING THE RUNNERS ALONG THE RACE ROUTE AND IN THE VILLAGES Between 2003 and today, what a long way we have come! From one single race in 2003 with 700 runners, to the event today which gathers 10 000 runners with 100 different nationalities and 7 events which each have their reason for existing. If the event has gained in notoriety, its values haven’t changed: fairplay, respect for others and the majestic outdoors, conviviality... For each person who participates in the UTMB® to have an unforgettable experience, a certain number of rules of the game are to be respected along the race itinerary. ACCOMPANYING ZONE
The runners, upon registering, have committed to respecting the regulations. Those accompanying them must do likewise to avoid putting them in the wrong with regard to their commitments. Reminder: running beside a participant outside of the zones, which are labelled as such in the proximity of the refreshment posts, is strictly forbidden and exposes the runner to a penalty of between 15 and 10 minutes. Concretely this penalty engenders a regression in the ranking and for certain runners it is the risk of not being within the time limit. Be careful not to confuse the zone of accompaniment (several hundred meters before and after each refreshment post, limits of which are clearly marked) with the zone of assistance (the area of the refreshment post reserved for this use). One could state that in the accompaniment zone you may only be accompanied not assisted!
YOU ALSO !
A short reminder of the rules of good manners to be applied in all the municipalities crossed by the UTMB® (but not only)! Set a good example and make the celebration even more beautiful: • I collect my waste and use bins and selective sorting stations • I respect private properties and their surroundings • I prefer public transportation and I use official car parking areas (wild parking is strictly forbidden in all municipalities) • In the evening and early morning, I respect the inhabitants by controlling the noise I make • At all times, I respect the instructions given by the organization and the police. Enjoy your UTMB®, everyone!
SUPPORT AREA
Personal assistance is tolerated only at certain refreshment posts, in the zone specifically reserved for this use, upon the presentation of an «Assistance» ticket (see below) and upon the agreement of the chief of post. This assistance can only be assured by one single person, without specific equipment other one than one bag of a volume of 30 litres maximum. Assistance given by a team professional, or any other professional person, medical or paramedical – even if they are a parent - is strictly forbidden. 1 ticket per assistance post 1 ticket = 1 person
