SYNOPSIS
ACT I Home of Baron de Pictordu Cendrillon begins the day with her morning chores and imagines what it might be like to be a princess. She believes the scenario is probably overrated and that being married to a prince isn’t worth it - and besides, her sisters would be more likely to be chosen as princesses. The prince enters, in disguise, and is charmed by Cendrillon’s kindness and generosity which is quickly contrasted by the entrance of her two sisters, Maguelonne and Armelinde. When the prince returns, in a different disguise, to deliver invitations to the grand ball, the sisters excitedly imagine attending the ball and order Cendrillon to help them prepare. The Baron then enters and reflects on his history as a grocer with a shady past. Cendrillon still hopes to attend the ball but her sisters make it clear she won’t be able to attend. After they leave for the ball with the Baron, La Fée, Cendrillon’s Godmother, appears and helps prepare her for the ball.
ACT II Prince's Palace Count Barigoule, disguised as the Prince, helps prepare the palace for the celebration. The guests arrive, including the Pictordu family, followed by a mysterious, beautiful woman - Cendrillon! The guests enjoy a performance from another surprise guest (La Fée, in disguise) and then celebrate with a dance. After the guests depart for the banquet, Cendrillon is left alone with the Prince, now disguised as a Chamberlain. The Prince expresses his love for Cendrillon, and she reciprocates, but they are interrupted by the chiming of the midnight bells and Cendrillon flees the palace. ACT III Home of Baron de Pictordu The Baron is surprised by a visit from Count Barigoule who is still disguised as the Prince. Barigoule reveals his secret and the past that they share before they are interrupted by the entrance of the women of the town who have all come to try on the magical slipper that was left behind by Cendrillon as she fled from the palace. Once the true Prince is revealed, and Cendrillon is reunited with her missing shoe, La Fée returns once more to wish them a life of happiness.
