STUDENT-ATHLETE SPOTLIGHT
KIRK SMITH Senior; Captain – Cross Country / Track & Field St. Louis, MO • 2017 Rhodes Scholar Kirk Smith has made the most of his TU experience — conducting research on solar energy, studying abroad twice, representing the Golden Hurricane as a member of the cross country and track & field teams — capped this past fall when he was named a Rhodes Scholar for the Class of 2017.
“I had the opportunity to study abroad for the first time following my freshman year with the TU Global Scholars program. We traveled to Germany and Hungary for three weeks as part of a summer class on sustainability and urban design. I returned home motivated not only to travel more, but also to implement concepts learned abroad back in my community.” Gifts have played an important role in Kirk’s TU experience, from the Presidential Scholarship that he earned as a freshman, to the unrestricted gifts that helped fund opportunities to do research, all while competing as a Division I studentathlete.
DONOR SPOTLIGHT
DON & PAT HARDIN When Don and Pat Hardin moved to Tulsa in 1970, they made a deliberate decision to become active in the community, including attending local collegiate sporting events. They soon became ardent Golden Hurricane fans, supporting our teams through lean times and championship seasons. When Don retired in 2008 from his executive position with CCI Corporation, the couple made another conscious decision – to build on their more than three decades of philanthropic support to TU. Their generosity has come broadly through their involvement in the Golden Hurricane Club to more targeted projects like the Reynolds Center, the Case Athletic Complex and H.A. Chapman Stadium.
“We encourage the entire Tulsa community to join us in aiding University of Tulsa student-athletes to maximize their academic and athletic potential. Go TU!”

The 1930 Society recognizes those generous donors who make a four-year commitment of $25,000 or more annually to the Golden Hurricane Club, and represents the pinnacle of private annual support to the Department of Athletics. Why it matters: Members of The 1930 Society are responsible for more than 23 percent of annual dollars to the Golden Hurricane Club.
With annual gifts of $2,000, $5,000, $10,000 or $20,000, the Leadership Council serves as an opportunity for members to make an additional impact on TU Athletics through a five-year commitment of support. Why it matters: Participation in the Leadership Council provides a more stable and predictable source of annual operating funding, allowing TU Athletics to strategically invest in the things that make it possible to provide a world-class experience for our student-athletes.
The 110% Club is made up of committed Golden Hurricane Club members who have increased their annual gift by at least ten percent from the previous year, or any new member who contributes a minimum of $110. Why it matters: Since 2009 110% Club members have been responsible for more than $2.3 million in additional support to TU Athletics.
BLUE CHIP young alumni program
Recent TU graduates (2013-2017) have the opportunity to join the Golden Hurricane Club at a special reduced rate by becoming a Blue Chip Young Alumni member. Young alumni may choose any membership level at 50% off the minimum giving amount while still receiving full benefits of that level. In addition, minimum annual donations automatically qualify you to purchase $50 season tickets for football and men’s basketball in the Blue Chip Young Alumni sections of the Reynolds Center and H.A. Chapman Stadium.
SPORT-SPECIFIC ENHANCEMENT FUNDS TU fans have the opportunity to make an additional impact on individual teams through Sport-Specific Enhancement Funds. When you designate a gift to a specific program, you are pledging your support to our coaches and the collective vision to better all of our teams, along with the experiences we can provide our studentathletes. Whether it is invested in equipment, team travel, or international travel opportunities, your gift will go directly to supporting your team(s) of choice. Gifts to Sport-Specific Enhancement Funds do not count toward membership in the Golden Hurricane Club. For questions about Sport-Specific giving opportunities, please contact the Golden Hurricane Club at 918-631-2342 or ghc@utulsa.edu. ■ Glenn Dobbs Fund for Football Excellence ■ ACE Group (Men’s Basketball) ■ Cross Country / Track & Field Enhancement Fund ■ Women’s Basketball Enhancement Fund ■ Women’s Golf Enhancement Fund ■ Women’s Rowing Enhancement Fund ■ Women’s Soccer Enhancement Fund ■ Men’s Soccer Enhancement Fund ■ Men’s Tennis Enhancement Fund ■ Women’s Tennis Enhancement Fund ■ Softball Enhancement Fund ■ Volleyball Enhancement Fund
