Specializations Production and Logistic Management A specialization of the Master’s programme in Industrial Engineering and Management (IE&M). IE&M production and logistics gets right to the heart of the supply chain, from sourcing raw materials to delivering finished products to customers. Modern production and logistics methods are growing ever more complex. Product lifetime is on the decrease, suppliers and buyers are spreading across the planet and more activities are being outsourced. You will learn to meet these challenges by getting to grips with key issues in supply chain design. This involves pinpointing the best location for production facilities and distribution centres, and identifying the resources they need. You will learn how to structure operations management in production, warehousing, transport and distribution, and purchasing. The key is to give customers the standard of service they want and to ensure process reliability. You will discover how to achieve these goals and how they relate to maintenance planning. Production and Logistic Management is about understanding the impact of customized logistical designs on overall performance. In our Business Process Laboratory, you will work with advanced software tools for enterprise resource planning, simulation and applying integer linear programming problems. You will also apply these tools to capacity
analysis of production systems, distribution planning and vehicle routing. The knowledge you gain does not only apply to industry, but also to less traditional sectors such as healthcare.
Information Technology and Management Information technology has become an indispensable tool for every modern business. But are businesses taking full advantage of the possibilities available? To answer this question, you need a thorough understanding of the role of information technology in organizations. Career OPPORTUNITIES Financial Engineering and Management
Information Technology and Management
In today’s world, the risks are high. Professionals skilled in valuing and hedging risks are – and will continue to be – in high demand. As a financial engineering graduate, you will enjoy a wide array of career opportunities where you can apply the tools you have acquired. Working for an investment bank or an insurance company is one career option, but by no means the only one. The skills necessary to price and manage complex risks are also highly valued by non-financial corporations. All internationally active firms need to hedge foreign exchange risk, and firms processing raw materials have to manage volatile commodity prices. As a financial engineering graduate, you can also pursue other avenues of professional development, including consultancies, software companies and regulatory institutions.
As a graduate of this specialization, you will be wellequipped for a career in process management, information analysis and management-related positions in any organization. Many of our graduates participate in projects concerning the re-engineering of complex administration, communication and business processes. Your work may involve determining IT needs, assessing IT investments and managing the organizational changes needed to fully realize newly enabled business processes. In the longer term, you can aim for a position such as chief information officer or principal consultant.
Health care Technology and Management This specialization gives you a solid foundation for a management position in a large healthcare organization. At the start of your career, you will most likely be involved in optimizing healthcare processes or managing the development and implementation of new technologies in the organization. You may choose to focus on process design and organization, which involves using and developing performance measurement systems to help achieve improvements such as streamlining a hospital’s organizational processes. Alternatively, you could focus on managing the development and implementation of new medical technologies or ICT solutions in healthcare organizations. In that case, your key process tasks will include estimating the need for a specific technology within the organization and its impact on patients, doctors and other relevant individuals.
Production and Logistic Management This specialization provides you with a solid academic background for a management career in production and logistics. On graduation, you can look forward to opportunities in a wide range of companies: multinationals, medium-sized manufacturing companies, consultancies or even setting up your own company. As a logistics manager or logistics analyst, you are sure to go far. The logistics manager’s task is to manage the flow of goods and related effects on the organization. This applies both to internal logistics (production, inventory) and external logistics (supply of raw materials and delivery of final products). Logistics analysts focus on analysing and improving the production and logistics processes of their company. Here are a few examples of jobs our graduates started in: supply chain analyst at Procter & Gamble’s supply chain management department, logistics analyst at mail-order and online retailer Wehkamp, management trainee at Stork, operations management consultant in Amsterdam Medical Center, solutions analyst for UPS Supply Chain Solutions and strategy consultant at Boston Consulting Group.

Student’s Touch ‘The University of Twente offers a high-level and up-to-date education, with excellent study facilities and a beautiful campus’ NAME Arturo E. Pérez Rivera
Although this leaflet was compiled with the utmost care, no rights can be derived from its contents.
COUNTRY OF ORIGIN Honduras
I chose this specific Master’s programme because it provided the perfect way of enhancing my skills for solving - industrial - problems through the use of operations research knowledge. I can classify the knowledge I have learned into two categories. The first category is theoretical knowledge, because I learned how to read, write and - most importantly -, develop mathematical models for solving industrial problems. The second category is practical knowledge, I learned how to be critical, how to base my decisions on sound arguments and how to correctly transmit my ideas in real-life applications of the theory. The University of Twente offers a high-level and up-to-date education, with excellent study facilities and a beautiful campus. Its entrepreneurial spirit of partnering with other organizations (companies, hospitals, etc.) gives students the opportunity to acquire real-world experience, which is necessary for a complete education. The open-mindedness of teachers and the critical attitude of the students raised many discussions that enriched my learning experience. As long as you can support your ideas with arguments , teachers are willing to listen; even if these ideas are not in their favourite line of thought.
