At this time of year, as the temperature in Vermont rises to its usual early spring coolness, you’d be bound to see sunglasses-wearing students creep out of their dorms to lounge on the Howe Library steps or lay out on the newlygreen grass. But now, in the midst of the new coronavirus outbreak, with only 117 students granted emergency housing and others abiding stay at home orders, the once lively campus is uncharacteristically still and empty. A little over a month after
Patricia Prelock, provost and senior vice president, advised faculty to instruct their students to bring coursework home over spring break, students are adjusting to remote-learning and trying to find some normalcy in quarantine. Among a multitude of other decisions, the University has postponed commencement, given students the option to switch to a pass/fail grading system and has continued admissions and recruitment for prospective students remotely.
