ThisguideisdesignedforstudentsandparentstohelpinthetransitiontoUWCSEAEastIBprogramme.

AllavailablesubjectsthatcanbestudiedatUWCSEAEastarehereandHeadsofDepartmentsandteachersofthesesubjectshavemade suggestionsaboutpossiblebooks,readings,podcasts,videos,questionstoaskyourselfetc.,thatmayhelpinpreparationsforthefirst termandbeyond TobesuccessfulintheIBprogramme,itisveryimportantthatstudentsdevelopindependentstudyhabitsand readingskills.Thereisalsosignificantresearchthatinformsusaboutthedifferenceinstudents’academicachievementsbetweenthose whodoandthosewhodon’treadoverlongbreaksbetweengrades Inaddition,manyoftheselinksprovidedallowstudentstoimmerse themselvesinandconnecttotheworldsandideascreatedanddescribedbyothers,leadingtoadevelopmentofmultipleperspectives. WhatistheIBDiplomaProgramme?

TheIBDiplomaProgramme(IBDP)isdesignedasanacademicallychallengingandbalancedprogrammeofeducationthatprepares students,normallyaged16to19,forsuccessatuniversityandlifebeyond.

AbriefhistoryoftheIBDiplomaProgramme:

TheIBDiplomaProgrammewasestablishedin1968toprovideaninternationaleducationthatwouldenableyoungpeopletobetter understandandmanagethecomplexitiesofourworld,andtoprovidethemwiththeskillsandattitudestotakeactiontoimproveit. Suchaneducationwasrootedinthemoreprogressiveeducationalthinkingofthetimebutalsointhebeliefthattheworldcouldbe madebetterthroughaneducationthatfocusedonconcepts,ideasandissuesthatcrosseddisciplinary,cultural,nationaland geographicalboundaries

TheIBCoreRequirements

CAS:Creativity,Activity,Service

TheCAScoreenablesstudentstoenhancetheirpersonalandinterpersonaldevelopmentthroughexperientiallearning Atthesame time,itprovidesanimportantcounterbalancetotheacademicpressuresoftherestoftheIBDP.

CASisorganisedaroundthethreestrandsofcreativity,activityandservicedefinedasfollows:

● Creativity:exploringandextendingideasleadingtoanoriginalorinterpretiveproductorperformance

● Activity:physicalexertioncontributingtoahealthylifestyle

● Service:collaborativeandreciprocalengagementwiththecommunityinresponsetoanauthenticneed

AgoodCASprogrammecomplementsachallengingacademicprogrammeinaholisticway,providingopportunitiesfor self-determination,collaboration,accomplishment,andenjoyment.Itisapersonaljourneyofdiscoveryofselfandothers.Formany students,CASexperiencesincludeonesthatareprofoundandcanbelife-changing Forstudentdevelopmenttooccur,CASshould involverealandpurposefulexperiences,personalchallenge,thoughtfulconsideration,andcriticalreflection.
