fall into fitness 5 tips to stay hot as the weather gets cold By GEORGINA PINOU
I
t’s easy to slack on your fitness routine as soon as temperatures start to cool off and the pressure of having the perfect summer body is now a non-factor. Although you may feel less motivation to hit the gym, it’s important to stay active throughout the Fall and Winter. Working out has so many advantages that could really benefit you throughout the stressful school semester, including giving you more energy and motivation in all areas of your life. All college students could use a boost of energy as they are bombarded with homework assignments and exams throughout the semester. Listed below are some key tips to maintaining a healthy lifestyle and staying dedicated to keeping a workout part of your routine.

UWEEKLY • October 14, 2015
1. Pencil workout time into your schedule. If you don’t actually schedule time to hit the gym, then it will be easy to convince yourself that your schedule is too hectic for you to add in a fitness activity. Even if it’s only 30 minutes every other day or a solid hour 2-3 times a week, you will be able to manipulate your schedule to find when it is the best time for you to schedule a workout.
2. Switch up your workout routine. In addition to planning when you are going to work out, you also should plan what you are actually going to do. You should switch it up between cardio, strength training, fitness classes or outdoor activities. The range of activities will keep you interested and engaged in your fitness routine.
3. Invest in some new workout gear. Splurge on some performance fitness outfits that will keep you on track. Whatever your favorite
uweekly.com
activity it is whether it's running, hiking or yoga, invest in some key pieces such as new sneakers or thermal clothes for that activity.
4. Find a buddy. Working out with someone else always gives you that accountability factor that guarantees to keep you on track. Find an activity that you and a friend both like to do, such as taking a Sunday morning jog or hitting up a workout class, and add that to your weekly routine. 5. Reward yourself. When you are starting to build up your fitness level, reward yourself every time you hit a key milestone. If your go-to workout is running, treat yourself when you complete the first 25 miles. If you plan to hit the gym 5 days a week for a month and actually do, this is another great milestone to reward yourself for.

fitness class fun By GEORGINA PINOU
A
s long as you are an Ohio State student taking four or more credit hours, you have access to all of Ohio State’s workout facilities and the amenities that they offer. Ohio State contains one of the best workout facilities in the country at the RPAC, among other gym options such as the JO North, JO South and ARC facilities. In addition to over a 100 cardio machines and fitness equipment, the RPAC is your key destination for free workout classes that are included with your student gym membership. The first step is activating your Fitness Pass online at recsports.osu.edu. All you need is your Buckeyelink login information, and a few seconds to accept the waiver and get all signed up to start trying out the various fitness classes. Once you are registered, all you will need to bring on the day of your fitness class is your BuckID to get checked in. The only other thing that is an essential for all workout class participants is a water bottle. You will be working up a sweat for sure since these classes are no joke! On the Rec Sports website, they have a schedule posted each semester of the weekly workout classes. These workout class times stay consistent the entire semester, so it's convenient to work one of these classes into your weekly routine in order to stay regimented. Each class is color coordinated so it is simple to find exactly the type of class you are looking for. The types of classes range from cardio, dance, cycle, strength, mind/body, aquatics and a combo cardio/strength. Once you decide what class category you’re interested in, you can find specific classes within each category. For example, if you just had a stressful week and feel like a Mind/Body class is right for you, you then have the option of yoga, power yoga, express Pilates or breath and balance yoga. Those options are just a few examples that are included in that category. You can use the calendar view to find classes during a time that is convenient for you, or you can SEE UWEEKLY.COM FOR THE REST OF THIS STORY.

5 ways to spend fall break How to make the most of the weekend By KAITLIN BRADLEY
O
ctober 2015 is a historical time for Ohio State students as they finally get their first fall break. Fall break runs Oct. 15-17, with all classes put on a hold for a moment of relaxation after midterms. With Ohio’s unseasonably warm fall temperatures and Ohio State’s undefeated team, there’s plenty of activities for students to explore while on break without having to break the bank!
Play the Field For the sports fanatic who lives for the game, fall break is the perfect opportunity to catch up on your player stats, games and skills on the green. While classes are out of session for the long weekend, campus facilities are still open for game time. Let’s not forget though, the big game of Ohio State vs. Penn State is the first night game of the year and is sure to get everyone pumped for the season again!
Get Some Artful Exposure Host your own personal gallery hop by strolling the art galleries and shops of the Short North to explore artisan goods, foods and music. The long weekend is a perfect time to explore the hidden corners of Columbus that you are otherwise prevented from due to classes, work and activities.
Indulge a Craving
cise class or the newest restaurant, utilize your time to treat yourself. Besides, what better way to take a little time off to rest and recollect your thoughts than with a new obsession?
“Fall” into fall Apple picking, hayrides and sipping cider, oh my! Central Ohio has the prime spot on all things fall, whether it includes fresh air in an orchard or a glass of apple pie mead. Therefore, while the time is right, get your hands on a bushel and take some stress off your plate with seasonal activities, before you turn around and the holidays have come and gone!
Trek back to the Motherland. Since most students are not able to go home on a regular basis to visit their families, the fall break is perfect for a getaway to your hometown. Whether it’s to see your high school friends, send your younger siblings off to homecoming or simply to reconnect with mom and dad, it’s almost impossible to go wrong with a trip home. Regardless of what your long weekend style is, it’s basically a known fact that we all need a breather. Between midterms, internships and the pressures of planning for next year’s classes and housing, taking a break to relax can give everyone renewed perspective.

CAREER
Prepare for the Worst, Hope for the Best Making the most of performance reviews
I
f you haven’t had one already, you will undoubtedly have one in the future: a performance review. The first time you sit down in front of one or several managers to evaluate your worth as an employee can be anxiety-inducing and altogether unpleasant. Whether it’s a job you’re passionate about, or one you picked up to gain employable skills, receiving constructive criticism is tough. So, what is a performance review? Why would you need one? A performance review is designed to measure your development within a company and assess your ability to perform your duties or exceed expectations. Most employees are entry-level. Ensuring that lower hierarchical employees are representing the brand and its mission statement positively and effectively certifies that the company is upholding their values. Ultimately, those entry-level employees are the people that are communicating with customers and/or clients and adhering to various compliance laws, depending on the field.
In that sense, your status in the company is a big deal. You’re the frontline and the embodiment of a customer’s first impression of the company. Your performance review will likely include a breakdown of your work. Because each position is vastly different, your specific review may differ from others. However, if you’re in a customer service-based position, for example, your review will likely be based on handle time, customer-based surveys, attitude, attendance and various weekly/ monthly goals. Keep in mind that how your performance is judged is, typically, by the numbers. You can wind up feeling disheartened when projects you’ve been part, or positive changes you’ve attempted to implement, aren’t recognized. A performance review is an opportunity to grow, so treat it as such. If you’re in an internship, ask for one! Showing you care enough to received feedback is essential to proving your worth as a potential employee. Take part in the discussion, especially if you
want to highlight those projects or changes that haven’t been acknowledged, without getting defensive. You should be prepared with questions for your reviewer on how to change what has been discussed. Maybe you didn’t hit a goal for a few weeks; maybe you had an unfortunate run-in with a customer who left a scathing review on Yelp or in the comment box; maybe you’ve been late, left early or have been tied down with too much class work; whatever the reason may be, don’t make excuses. Simply ask questions that show you’ve received the feedback well, and ask how you can better your performance. More specifically, ask what you should continue to do to gauge what you’re doing well. You have to be doing something right if it’s a performance review and not the, “We’re letting you go” talk.

I
have a steady income but like the majority of people, there isn’t a lot leftover after bills. Unfortunately, my financial position is not always able to accommodate my wanderlust and innate desire to travel. In order to combat my hapless bank account, I seek out opportunities for redeemable points or additional income. Some are legit and some are too much trouble to be worth it. Recently, I investigated a new venture, User Testing, as both a means to earn some side cash as well as review the process for UWeekly. The company is based online at www.usertesting.com. User Testing clients allow their websites and/or apps to be tested through approved applicants/employees at User Testing. You earn $10 for every 20-minute review session that you complete. What I liked right off the bat is that they don’t promise that everyone who signs up is going to be approved. It’s not a strenuous application process, but you do have to complete a sample screen recording that simulates a real review. If you’re accepted, you’re invited to complete your profile and a couple of brief training courses. The reviewing process is a little more ambiguous but not entirely unclear. User Testing’s clients are the companies that want their websites/apps reviewed. You are employed through User Testing and, once approved, you’ll receive review opportunities based on the devices you have registered and your profile. Reviews can be either on a tablet, phone or computer, depending on the client’s needs. You’ll be given an overall scenario to keep in mind and tasks related to that scenario. Once you’ve reviewed a website/app, your SEE UWEEKLY.COM FOR THE REST OF THIS STORY.

College is more than house parties and high St. Bars By Jacob geers
S
ometime toward the end of last year I was hanging out in my dorm hallway when I overheard a conversation.
“I was downstairs getting my laundry,” some kid wearing the same LL Bean boots everyone else was wearing, “And I saw a group of kids down there playing cards!” Everyone seemed to find this astonishingly funny. “Cards! On a Friday night?” another kid wearing the same Patagonia pullover that everyone else was wearing exclaimed with mock indignation, “Wow! How the other side lives!” “Yeah! Some people really need to get a life,” Another guy wearing the same vineyard vines backwards baseball cap everyone else was wearing said loudly.

My ribs were bursting from holding in laughter as I quietly walked away. These guys were judging their peers who chose to “stay in,” rather than “go out” on this particular weekend night. The hilarious irony, of course being that this particular group of people did literally the same things almost every weekend. Like clockwork, Thursday night was a trip to Cantina and Friday and Saturday were either some house party or Big Bar. Folks who had the same tired routine week-in and week-out were judging other people for not “having a life.” The truth is, having a social life is a lot more than going out, and going out is so much more than house parties and the same handful of bars. Don’t get me wrong, there are times I love dropping by Chumley’s or going to a house party, but if that is all you are doing, you don’t have legs to stand on when criticizing other people’s social life is all I’m saying. Street. Have you checked out the incredible art and galleries in the Short North? Have you ever gotten a tour of the Anthony-Thomas Candy Company? Have you spent a spring day throwing a Frisbee at Goodale Park or spent a night catching a show at the Ohio Theatre? We are all here to have a “college experience.” That college experience should be what we want it to be: be that going to Midway every night, staying in and playing cards, or enjoying a fun wine tasting. My challenge to everyone, however, is to push yourself to experience a wider range of social activities than you currently do at this very moment. If you do stay in a lot, maybe see what kind of parties or bars you like. If you are only hanging out on the same few hundred yards of High Street, maybe shake things up and explore other parts of Columbus. College is short, but that doesn’t mean the list of places we hang out has to be, let’s all make the most of it. Go Bucks.

The Dark night OSU to don black uniform for Penn State showdown By @GeoffHammersley a
T
he No.1 Ohio State Buckeyes find themselves sitting at 6-0 after a 49-28 takedown of the Maryland Terrapins. Once again, Ezekiel Elliott poured in over 100 yards rushing, the defense held the opposition when they needed to, and the quarterbacking of both Cardale Jones and J.T. Barrett looked fantastic. However, this week is different. Penn State (5-1) looks to play spoiler in Columbus, especially with the Buckeyes wearing the special black uniforms. While the Nittany Lion offense struggled mightily earlier in the season, they are developing each week behind veteran quarterback Christian Hackenberg. With an evolving offense and a solid defensive unit, Penn State is poised for a showdown in The Shoe. “Offensively, [it] seems to be they’re coming into their own,” said coach Meyer on the Nittany Lions offense. “Excellent defense. I think they're top 10.” While Meyer gives praise to a Big Ten foe, his 16

own team is quite good, too. The Buckeyes are racking up 460 yards of offense per game, and are scoring roughly 37 points per contest. Elliott is 165 yards away from breaking 1,000 rushing yards for the season, while Jones has over 1,100 yards of passing. While some will say that this Buckeye team has under-performed statistically this season, they are still winning. Heading into the game this week, the Buckeyes ride a 26-game unbeaten streak in Big Ten regular season play, and a 19-game winning streak. To get to that 20-game win streak, the Buckeyes must once again defeat Penn State under the lights. For the fourth straight season, the two teams have played in primetime, with Ohio State winning the last three meetings. Utilizing the speed and agility of Barrett will be an x-factor this weekend. “In the [quarterback] run, you have to be a little more of a tailback with the niftiness and jump cut and do the things that J.T. does for us,” said uweekly.com
Meyer about whether to use Jones or Barrett for quarterback-designed runs. This season, Barrett is averaging seven yards per carry – almost double the average of what Jones has. On defense, the Buckeyes will need to harass Hackenberg. With the defensive line of Tyquan Lewis, Sam Hubbard, Joey Bosa and Adolphus Washington, the Buckeyes should have no trouble getting at least a couple sacks – Temple was able to do it by only rushing two people! Since Hackenberg isn’t known to be a scrambler, the Buckeyes won’t have to worry about another quarterback breaking off long rushes to the end zone. The 8:00 p.m. “Dark Night in the Shoe” should be a blast. The environment will be electric, and we will finally see what the new uniforms look like in action!

From columbus to rio Trapp helps U.S.M.N.T. in Olympic quest By @BEN_FERREE a
A
fter failing to qualify for the Olympics in 2012, the United States Men’s National Team U-23 is looking for redemption on the path to Brazil 2016. To get into the games in Rio, a squad composed of players younger than 23 are competing against other North American teams for two guaranteed berths – with the third place team going to a playoff game against Columbia. Countries are divided into groups, with the top two teams from each group playing in a knockout=style bracket after group play is done. Columbus Crew SC vice captain and homegrown player Wil Trapp is one of the members of the U-23, and captained them to victory over Canada and Cuba in their first two tournament games. Winning by a combined score of 9-2 in those two games, the U-23 is guaranteed a spot in the top two of the group, and likely the overall seed as well. The team is firing on all cylinders against the weaker opposition they currently face and are posed to continue that success when they face tougher competition in the knockout stages, setting up a likely final against Mexico. Trapp is making his presence known both offensively and defensively. Through the first two games, the Gahanna native has an 83.3 percent passing accuracy (team average is 80 percent) and assisted one of the goals against Canada. In that game, no one attempted more passes than Trapp, as he was actively involved in all facets of the game. He is also first on the team in fouls committed, with seven. A break from MLS action this week means Crew SC is only missing Trapp for one game, Saturday’s loss to the New York Red Bulls. oth the men and women’s soccer programs had an exciting week inside the friendly confines of Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium. From last-gasp goals in double-overtime against instate competition to thrilling finishes against Big Ten foes, both squads got the job done. Three seconds is plenty of time The men’s squad took on the struggling Bowling Green Falcons on Oct. 7, and managed to down the Falcons with three seconds left in double-overtime, 2-1.
Christian Soldat scored the winning goal after redirecting the ball from a free kick by Liam Doyle. Soldat, who came off the bench against the Falcons, now has two goals on the season. The Buckeyes collectively have five game-winning goals amongst them, with Danny Jensen leading the way with two of them. The game, a memorial match for Connor Senn – a former Buckeye who passed away due to a congenital heart defect¬ – showcased why you play to the very last second.
“Everyone thought the match would end in a tie,” said head coach John Bluem. “The clock continued and there was a cluster of players in front of the net… I was not surprised [Soldat] was able to finish for us tonight. It was a great win for our guys.” Later in the week, Ohio State defeated Indiana on Oct.10, 1-0. OSU currently holds an overall record of 6-4-2; they will play their next home game on Oct.18 against Wisconsin. Dodging a Terrapin attack After Ohio State defeated the Purdue Boilermakers on Oct.8, 3-2, they would be in another one-goal fight a few days later against the Maryland Terrapins. Even though Ohio State controlled the tempo and shots on goal for the contest, the Buckeyes found themselves down a goal entering the 73rd minute. However, a successful penalty kick by Nikki Walts changed that, as the Buckeyes were forced into overtime with the Terps. It’s worth noting that standout Nichelle Prince had numerous shots against the Maryland goaltender, Rachelle Beanlands, throughout the afternoon. Beanlands made great saves against Prince – with some shots coming at point-blank range– in regulation. But in overtime, Prince got her revenge. hile eyes may be fixed on the gridiron with football season reaching the midway point, what is taking place on the hardwood should not be overlooked. The Ohio State women’s volleyball team is currently ranked seventh in the country and has won five consecutive Big Ten matches. For the season, OSU is 16-2 overall and 5-1 in conference play after defeating No. 13 Illinois last Saturday night in four sets. The road victory improves the Buckeyes’ record against Top-20 opponents to a perfect 6-0. Those six wins came against then-No. 14 Florida State twice, then-No.13 Arizona, then-No. 16 Wisconsin, then-No. 4 Nebraska and Illinois over the weekend. The Buckeyes trailed in sets in just two of the six contests — the first match against FSU and Nebraska. The wins against FSU and Arizona came in the midst of an 11-game win streak.
OSU’s impressive campaign thus far has led to its highest national ranking since 2004. Impressive individual performances have also helped propel the Scarlet and Gray to such high marks. Three Buckeyes have earned Big Ten weekly honors this season — Audra Appold, Valeria León and Taylor Sandbothe. Appold collected Big Ten Player and freshman of the Week after her performances against Iowa and Nebraska. In the Nebraska contest, she had a match-high 22 kills in addition to 17 digs. She averaged 3.56 kills per set and 2.78 digs per set for the two matches. Defensive specialist León won Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week after an incredible showing against Arizona in the Blackbird Invitational championship match on Sept. 12. "yeezer"
OSU student's mash up mixtape gains national attention By ALEX ANTONETZ
I
t’s just a few seconds into “Yeezer” and I find myself a little startled. Kanye West’s mumbled lyrics to “Through the Wire” are fitting way too well with the instrumental to Weezer’s “Beverly Hills.” This happens for nine more mashed-up Yeezy and Weezer tracks, all the product of one Ohio State student. Alex Hodowanec, a second-year in art, is the auteur behind “Yeezer,” a mashup tape combining tracks from West and Weezer that blew up on the Internet last week with attention from outlets like Time Magazine and MTV, as well as Weezer itself. UWeekly talked to Hodowanec about the success of “Yeezer.” UWeekly: You're an Ohio State student. Tell us a little bit about yourself: your hometown, your year and major and, most importantly, what your hopes and dreams are. Alex Hodowanec: I'm from Pittsburgh. I transferred from this small school called La Roche College that had an enrollment of a little under 2,000 students. Beyond just not really being what I was looking for in a school, I also wanted to get out of the Pittsburgh area. I figured “Go big or stay home,” so I enrolled in OSU. I'm a second-year student, but I'll be honest, I have no idea if I'm a sophomore or a freshman or what. Transferring credits and all that. I'm an art and technology major, and honestly, what's happened this past week is pretty much what I hoped for. I have people from Roc Nation emailing me. I have a hookup with a clothing store in Long Beach. Just trying to ride these 15 minutes [of fame] for as long as possible. UW: How long did “Yeezer” take you, and how did you manage to put this project together while balancing schoolwork? 20
UWEEKLY • October 14, 2015
AH: Am I allowed to say I didn't? I started the project in 2013, finished it, realized that it wasn't at the level I wanted it to be at, and then pretty much redid the entire thing once the school year started. “Yeezer” was the source of a lot of procrastination. UW: What has all the media attention been like for you? Were you anticipating this at all? AH: Man, I was afraid to even upload it online, so you can understand what a love-hate relationship this is. I like the fact that it seems to resonate with so many people, but the constant bombardment from all sides is kind of exhausting. I wasn't sure how the reaction was going to be. I think I have a pretty bad gauge on those kind[s] of things. I was afraid that the initial site I uploaded it to, Reddit, was going to hate it. So Time Magazine and Weezer themselves giving me props on this was definitely not in the game plan. UW: What's the coolest thing that's happened because of all of this attention? AH: There's too many to list! The initial interview with KROQ, and what opportunities that's given me as an artist, is amazing. Time Magazine, MTV, Billboard, etc. covering it is amazing. Weezer posting about it is unbelievable. Someone from Roc Nation emailing me about how much they like it and that they're keeping tabs on me is like something from a movie. It's like that episode of “Drake & Josh” where Drake gets to play on “TRL.” Roc Nation is like my “TRL.” UW: You told radio.com that you started with Kanye's “Through the Wire” and Weezer's “Beverly Hills.” From a musical perspective, what about Kanye and Weezer's catalogs seemed like they would mash up together well? AH: Weezer and Kanye aren't as different as uweekly.com
everyone's making them seem. “Beverly Hills” is a pretty hip-hop inspired track. The way Rivers Cuomo delivers the lyrics on that song is very much like how a rapper would. After that it's really just a matter of finding a Kanye song to put on top of it. It was my friend Ben who suggested to use “Through the Wire.” Originally it was going to be “Jesus Walks,” but I think I made the right choice. Beyond that, if you look at songs like “El Scorcho” and “Buddy Holly,” you can see how Weezer incorporates hiphop elements into their songs. To some extent they're thinking about writing music in hip-hop terms. And then Kanye songs like “Black Skinhead” and “Power” ... those are rock songs disguised as hip-hop songs! Mashing them up is pretty easy once you find those similarities and just emphasize them when you mix them together. UW: You also said you're a big Weezer fan. What made you choose Kanye as the other half? AH: Honestly, I'm probably a bigger Kanye fan than a Weezer fan. Weezer's first two albums, specifically “Pinkerton,” are some of my favorite albums of all time. Something about the lyrics and melodies really connect with me. But Kanye's output has just been so expansive and evolving. Every album captures a different section of music I like perfectly. It wasn't really “What rapper should be rapping over Weezer?" It was “What band should Kanye be rapping over?” Once I really got into Weezer, and that title, “Yeezer,” got stuck in my head, I knew it had to be them. UW: Yeezus says he's running in president for 2020. Would you vote for him and why? AH: I'd be more inclined if he would just release “Swish” already!

One foot in front of the other Q & A with comedian Jen Kirkman By JAMES GARCIA
L
ooking for a hearty laugh? Standup comic Jen Kirkman is making a stop in Columbus at Woodlands Tavern on Oct. 20. UWeekly got to throw some questions her way. UWeekly: You've accomplished a lot in your career, getting on the bestseller's list, Conan, Leno, and “Chelsea Lately” (and of course, voice acting on some of my personal favorite shows, “Home Movies” and “Drunk History”). What would you say the high point in your career was, and what are you hoping to accomplish to top that moment? Jen Kirkman: For me, those moments and accolades come and go, and in the moment, there is so much other stuff to worry about that I never sat there thinking, “This is a high point.” With the exception of hitting the bestseller list, that meant a lot to me. But my personal high points come when I am on stage and I think, “Oh my God. This crowd has been listening to me for a half hour and I have a half hour more to go and no one is rioting or yelling, ‘Shut up, you’re not a real comedian!’” I somehow, over almost two decades, just kept

putting one foot in front of the other and I can’t pinpoint the moment or the time but somehow, I became a real live comedian. UW: Being a comedian is no easy task. What is it about comedy that made you want to pursue such a unique career path? JK: I was an idiot when I started doing comedy – full of bravado and fearlessness and had no idea that it wasn’t easy until I was in too deep. What made me want to pursue the path is something I don’t have a conscious recollection of. … It’s just the natural thing that happened after a life (dare I say “life” when I’m referring to the years 5-21, but you know what I mean) being interested in the arts. (Sorry that I said “the arts.”) UW: What advice would you give to those of us who are interested in pursuing comedy, whether it be writing, stand-up or acting? What are some things to avoid? JK: I would really avoid wanting the approval of the generations of comics above you. Just START.

And don’t worry about stockpiling advice and trying to figure it out. It’s like saying, “How do I run a marathon?” Just learn to run first. And everyone “runs” differently. Ya’ gotta put one foot in front of the other, and see how it feels for YOU to be doing that. Once you’re established and in the marathon, you’ll trade tips with other marathoners about the proper sneakers or how to heal a cramp. But it’s not time for those details yet. They won’t make sense to the beginner, and the beginner will be sitting around in fancy shoes, stretching before he or she has earned the run. And don’t worry about making money at your craft right away. At one low point in my life – having been doing comedy for 12 years and not being able to crack making a living at it (also why no one should ever listen to my advice) is that I asked myself, “Is comedy something I love so much that I could continue to do it for free while working other jobs just to make money?” Yes, was my answer. And I never looked back.

Now Loading... October streaming updates By ADAM AMBROS
W
hen Netflix and other streaming services trot out their monthly updates, there’s usually not much of note other than the occasional recent summer blockbuster, or additional season of “The Walking Dead” or “Breaking Bad.” However, October is shaping up to be one of the best months in a long time across the board when it comes to what is going to be available to stream. First and foremost, Amazon Video easily wins the month by gaining exclusive rights to stream the entire “Back to the Future” trilogy for one month only. The promotion is set to tie in with the original film’s 30th anniversary and as any fan could tell you, Oct. 21, 2015 is the day Marty, Doc Brown and an unconscious Jennifer traveled ahead in time to set Marty’s kids straight. “Back to the Future” is an example of Amazon trying to lure Netflix viewers away with some original or exclusive content. The company is also trying to drum up interest in the film’s upcoming 30th anniversary Blu-Ray release on Oct. 20. On the other end of the streaming spectrum is Netflix, whose October’s offerings are some of the strongest yet. Perhaps the most notable release is Cary Fukunaga’s “Beasts of No Nation,” starring everyone’s favorite James Bond fantasy casting actor, Idris Elba. This film is Netflix’s first step into the world of major film releases, starring Elba as a vicious West African rebel commander as he trains a young orphan to join his group of guerilla soldiers. The film will be available Oct. 16. Then there’s season 1 of “The Flash,” which debuted with one of the best opening seasons in recent TV history. The show is a blast—fun and breezy—and by the time you’ve spent the entire season getting to know the group, the touching finale moment between Barry Allen and his mother will undoubtedly hit like a ton of bricks. Other notable releases are “Batman Begins,” the film that launched the superhero genre SEE UWEEKLY.COM FOR THE REST OF THIS STORY.

Erica Keysor button up $30 AMERICAN EAGLE
Erica Keysor is a Senior, Fashion and Retail Major at The Ohio State University. Erica loves art and is a very talented artist herself. In addition to her involvement in The Fashion Production Association, she enjoys singing and bowling in her spare time. Erica’s carefree outfits are a perfect combination of comfort and girly style.
How would you describe your style? I would describe my style as typically super casual. Usually I try to find pieces to incorporate that have a girly and trendy flair.
Why is personal style important to you? It's something I can always be independent about. I can be as much or as little like everyone else as I want. I always love how you don't really have to have reasons for what you wear.
Who / What inspires you? I would say that most of my inspiration comes from various things I see on Pinterest. I also am usually very inspired by my friend’s style.
DRESS $25 KOHL'S
What is your 'go-to' outfit? An outfit I normally always reach for in the Fall especially is skinny jeans, sweater and boots.
How do you pick your outfits? Since I live in Ohio, first I pick them based on weather. I then figure out what I'm doing that day so I look appropriate. I also make sure that I do not steal a good outfit from another day of the week, I usually save my favorite outfit for a day that it’s best for.
What fall trend is your favorite? Even though it’s very cliché, I love flannels and boots. You really can’t go wrong with that combo.
BOOTS $180 LOCAL SHOE STORE
What are your favorite places to shop? My favorite stores to shop at are Torrid, American Eagle, and Forever 21.
Any advice for readers? Be confident! So many times people shy away from certain items of clothing or makeup because they don't think they can pull it off. You're the only one who has to dig your look! Confidence is a definite booster.

The Best Fall Workout Gear for Your price point By GEORGINA PINOU
W
earing a well-coordinated comfortable workout outfit could be the kick you need to get your butt in the gym. Treat yourself to some new workout pieces to help motivate yourself to get active. One of the best parts about buying workout outfits or stylish pieces is that you can wear your outfit to class or running chores and then not have to change before you get to the gym. Popular activewear brands such as Nike and Lululemon have the reputation for good quality and stylish pieces but tend to be a little tough on a college student’s wallet. There are many other places you can look to find great workout attire at a variety of price points. High Price Point Workout Tops and Pants (approx. $40-$70), Sports Bras (approx. $50) Athleta: Athleta carries activewear that complements all varieties of athletes. On their sport tab, you can see their choices of pieces based on the activity that you are planning to do. Derek Lam recently did a collaboration with them, following the high-end designer and activewear brand collaboration trend that has been on the rise recently. This brand is a great alternative, if you covet everything in Lululemon but your budget just doesn’t allow for it. Medium Price Point Workout Tops and Pants (approx. $30-$65), Sports Bras (approx. $35) The Gap: Gap’s activewear section has been greatly expanded within the last couple of years. Gap actually has a section of their activewear that is described as “Studio to Street”. Most of their pieces are so versatile that you could wear them to the gym or just incorporate them into your everyday wardrobe. Their best aspect of their collection is their fleece hoodies, which are warm as anything and provide sweat-wicking material. These sweaters are sure to keep you warm on your outdoor SEE UWEEKLY.COM FOR THE REST OF THIS STORY.

3 Healthy and simple recipes
W
hat does it mean to be healthy? Does it mean being skinny, being able to run a few miles or to not get sick during the cold weather? Not necessarily. Being healthy has many factors, including having a strong immune system, having energy and eating a balanced diet. Many people have issues eating healthy while in college. They spend what little money they have on cheap meals such as ramen, spaghetti or microwave dinners. By doing this, however, weight can be gained and deficiencies can form. It is extremely important to get the correct nutrients into your diet, so here are cheap meal ideas that will give you many of the nutrients you need. Strawberry and Grilled Chicken Salad This salad is packed with protein, fruit and vegetables. To make the salad, mix spinach, cut strawberries, onions, bell peppers, asparagus, walnuts, goat cheese and grilled chicken. This salad is very clean, and although you may be tempted to dress it with ranch or your favorite salad dressing, there is no need! The flavors of this salad by itself are enough to make your taste buds happy. Foil Baked Salmon This recipe is guaranteed to be easy to make and extremely delicious (and healthy, of course)! 26
UWEEKLY • October 14, 2015
To make this recipe, cut a 10-inch aluminum foil strip, and place the desired amount of asparagus as a single layer (leave a few inches on each end of the foil). Then squeeze lemon juice, and season the asparagus to taste with salt and pepper. Place a salmon filet on top of the asparagus bed, and season the fish the same way. Also, place two lemon slices on top of the filet. Wrap the salmon and asparagus in the foil to form a pouch, and bake in a 400-degree oven for 25-35 minutes. The finished product will be around 200 calories! Healthy Veggie Pizza For the vegetarians and/or pizza lovers out there, this recipe is for you! This recipe uses sweet potato sauce instead of tomato sauce. To make the sweet potato sauce, dice and cook an average-sized sweet potato, then pulse it in a food processor with 1 tablespoon of olive oil, a dash of red pepper and salt and pepper to taste. On a whole grain pizza crust (can be premade and from the store), slather on the potato sauce and top with goat cheese, kale and drizzle with olive oil. Bake in a 400-degree oven for 10-15 minutes. For a little extra crunch, sprinkle walnuts onto the pizza. One serving is around 350 calories!

By ASHLEY WILKINSON 'm sure you've heard it a million times before: "Breakfast is the most important meal of the day." Why is it the most important? Breakfast prepares both your mind and body for the rest of the day. After I began college, I noticed that I hardly ever ate breakfast. I cherished sleep too much and always got up at the last possible minute to get ready. I know that I'm not alone. Although this isn’t a life or death situation, it can become a problem. If you refrain from eating breakfast, you have less energy, have problems focusing and may even gain weight due to a late metabolism start each day. If you are a lazy college student like myself, you need something that is quick, portable and healthy to eat for breakfast. Here is an amazing and simple recipe that takes literally less than five minutes to make in the morning with tons of nutritional value! Peanut Butter and Fruit Waffle Sandwich This breakfast is really easy and fast to make. Simply prepare two frozen whole-grain waffles. Spread peanut butter on one waffle, and top with bananas, strawberry, and drizzle with honey. Place the other waffle on top to make a sandwich. This breakfast is easy to eat on the go, too!

AWARENESS
IN OCTOBER, WE WEAR PINK BRANDS SUPPORTING BREAST CANCER AWARENESS MONTH By TAMIKA SMITH
A
lthough fall officially begins in September, it isn't until October that we really begin to get into the spirit of autumn. Not only does October bring football, cooler weather, changing leaf colors and Halloween festivities, but it also represents a great cause. One of the most significant things about the month of October is the fact that it is the official Breast Cancer Awareness Month. With the pink ribbon being the symbol of breast cancer awareness, pink is an abundant color throughout October.
Around this time, you may even notice your favorite NFL football players wearing pink gloves and towels in support of the cause. Not only football players, but practically everyone around the world supports Breast Cancer Awareness Month by wearing pink or buying pink merchandise.

Go Daddy In support of breast cancer awareness, the company is offering pink breaks for vehicles throughout the month of October.
Nike As always, Nike is a large contributor the Breast Cancer Awareness Month this year. They are offering many pink items from athletic clothing to wristbands and watches.

FROM STELLA WITH LOVE
what do you mean?
I
n my last article I covered the issue of getting a guy to talk to you. This week, I’m tackling a problem everyone faces: Where is the relationship going? After all your laughter-filled nights with bae, casual lunches and hot nights out, you’re going to remember that he isn’t your boyfriend. He’s just bae — a boy that’s yours but not. While that’s fine for a month, you’ll start going mad about where things are going and if he feels the same way. That’s just what females do. We freak out and obsess. It’s fine; we’re fine.
about where the relationship is going. Someone will use their charming powers and just call the other person his or her “boyfriend” or “girlfriend.” From there, the couple will have a brief discussion about how serious the relationship is — unless I’ve been watching too many romantic movies and it’s screwing with reality. Here’s the deal: you can either not talk about it until bae gives a very obvious clue about how he feels, or “hit him with the headline” and ask what’s up. So, let’s make that relationship Next Level.
No, really. It’s OK. Who else would initiate the conversation about where the relationship is going if it weren’t for our need to know. Once you’ve been dating a guy for a month, it’s time to have “the talk.” Everyone hates having “the talk” (not to be confused with the sex talk). It might end all your fun because, let’s be honest, you’re probably really into him, and you don’t want what you guys have to end. I don’t blame you, sista’. Though, there are rare cases where two magical beings will come together and never have the talk
1. Have the damn talk. Woman up, and ask him where he sees things going. Be honest, and tell him how you feel. Never hide your feelings, even if it isn’t mutual.
place before he comes over. You’re at a point with him where that doesn’t even matter. 4. No makeup. No problem. Once he’s seen you several times without makeup and still groggy, you’re completely comfortable with each other. The morning drool, bedhead and morning RBF no longer scare him and you could care less. 5. Actually sleeping. If you begin to just fall asleep with bae and not have sex, that’s telling you something. The relationship is clearly changing and moving towards something much more serious. Bae is about to become boyfriend! Dating a guy (or two) is fun, but finding someone you really like and starting a serious relationship with him is just as great. The fun never ends.
2. Get straight to it. Dragging this out will only drive you insane — trust me. He’ll be able to tell that you’re acting differently. Talk things over before there’s nothing to talk about, ladies. 3. Trivial sh*t. A sign that informs you things are getting “v” serious is when you stop cleaning your
