Eligibility

› Be registered as full-time students in an eligible undergraduate program at UWinnipeg.

› Have completed at least 30 credit hours and have at least 18 credit hours remaining to complete their Bachelor’s degree.

› Have obtained a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.0 (B).

› Demonstrate international student status.

Purpose

The USRA–I program provides financial support to international undergraduate students from all disciplines wishing to spend a period of time in a research setting. These awards are intended to stimulate the interest of international undergraduate students in research, and encourage them to pursue graduate studies and a research career. The number of awards available may vary from year to year.

General Information

Students may only receive two USRA–I awards throughout their academic career, and can only apply for and hold one USRA of any kind per year.

Awards may be held at any time of the year where permitted by the student’s academic program, and may commence at a date mutually agreeable to the student, supervisor, and the University.

The student must work under the supervision of a tenured or tenure-track faculty member with an established research track record, actively engaged in research at the time of application and for the duration of the award.

With permission from the research supervisor, an award recipient may register for a maximum of six credit hours of course work in addition to holding this award.

This funding is not to be used for current course-related research projects, and can be for either an independent research proposal designed by the student or for the student to participate in a supervisor’s research program.

Submit the application, personal statement, transcript (WebAdvisor transcript acceptable), supervisor’s letter of support, departmental letter of support, and supervisor’s six-year research grant and publication history to the Research Office.
