From August 13th through the Campaign Closing Celebration on November 20th, we invite you to join us for 100 Days of Impact on Facebook and Twitter. Day 6: Thanks to you, 1,440 people in Wayne County without enough to eat enjoyed fresh produce from the Wayne County Food Pantry. Day 7: Thanks to you, 1,706 blind and visually impaired individuals in our community kept up with current events through the Lackawanna Blind Association’s Pell Radio Reading Service last year. Through a partnership with the University of Scranton, these informative broadcasts air on 99.5 WUSR Scranton and include reading of The Scranton Times-Tribune each day with reports of local news, sports and agency information. Day 2: Thanks to you, 170 children benefited from a caring mentor through the Voluntary Action Center of NEPA’s Big Brother/Big Sister program. Day 4: Thanks to you, 1,577 residents of long-term care facilities received transportation to participate in outings for shopping and community events through Serving Seniors, Inc. Day 11: Thanks to you, 133 older adults who had recently come home from the hospital enjoyed a warm meal and friendly visit through Meals on Wheels.

Day 19: Thanks to you, 124 children were cared for in the quality learning environment of Day Nursery Association while their parents were at work.

Day 12: Thanks to you, 262 adult learners received literacy services through United Neighborhood Centers of NEPA’s SCOLA Learning Center. Day 20: Thanks to you, 72 Wayne County families were helped with preschool tuition to help their children prepare for success!

Day 15: Thanks to you, 568 uninsured or unemployed people received much-needed medical care through Scranton Primary Health Care Center.

Day 21: Thanks to you, 1,971 adult and child victims of domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault and/or stalking received immediate crisis intervention and support through the Women’s Resource Center’s hotline.

Day 16: Thanks to you, 1,506 residents of nursing homes and other long-term living facilities received transportation to needed services and community events through Serving Seniors, Inc. Day 17: Thanks to you, 269 girls participated in Girl Scouts that wouldn’t have been able to without financial assistance. - with Girl Scouts in the Heart of Pennsylvania. Day 18: Thanks to you, 64 children had transportation to the Boys & Girls Clubs of Northeastern Pennsylvania after school.

Day 22: Thanks to you, 767 homeless individuals received shelter, meals and a plan to help them become more financially stable at Catholic Social Services’ St. Anthony’s Haven. Day 23: Today is #DayofCaring in Lackawanna and Wayne Counties! Almost 400 people from 30 companies are volunteering at 21 agencies and completing 38 projects today! Day 24: 13 new moms and their babies received a year of shelter, counseling and individualized plans to help them prepare for a more stable life through St. Joseph’s Center. Day 25: Thanks to you, 55 children were helped to attend day camp at the Greater Scranton YMCA. Day 26: Thanks to you, 260 individuals received 1,333 hours of counseling from Jewish Family Service of NEPA.

Day 27: Thanks to you, 14 children were provided a safe after school environment and were able to achieve measurable improvements in their math and reading through Honesdale Communities That Care. Day 28: 20 children and teens with developmental disabilities or special needs improved their computer skills through the Compuplay program at United Cerebral Palsy of NEPA. Day 33: Thanks to you, 245 children and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities had someone standing up for them through advocacy services at the Arc of NEPA. Day 29: The Wayne County portion of the United Way Campaign kicks off tonight! Thanks to you, the total impact of United Way in Wayne County over the past 8 years is $791,291. Day 30: Thanks to you, 572 frail seniors maintained their independence and enjoyed 202,536 hours of friendly visits through Telespond Senior Services’ Senior Companion program.

Day 35: Thanks to you, 108 children received financial assistance to attend day camp at the Scranton Jewish Community Center (JCC). Day 31: Thanks to you, 152 children attended Day Camp at the Greater Carbondale YMCA last summer. Day 37: Thanks to you, families from McNichols Plaza Elementary School visited a mobile food pantry and agency fair last night with Commission on Economic Opportunity (CEO). Thanks to the wonderful volunteers from Bank of America who helped distribute the food. This program will continue monthly. Day 38: Thanks to you, 81 children participated in after school programs every week at the Greater Carbondale YMCA where they made friends and had opportunities for exercise, active play and homework help. Day 39: Thank to you, 579 teens and young adults visited United Neighborhood Centers of Northeastern Pennsylvania’s Bellevue and Progressive Centers for a drop-in, evening program as a safe, structured alternative to the streets.

Day 40: Thanks to you, Women’s Resource Center helped 92 women and 75 children have a safe place to stay when fleeing from domestic violence.

Day 44: Thanks to you, 38 preschoolers at Day Nursery Association transitioned successfully to Kindergarten and are on their way to a bright future!

Day 41: Thanks to you, 8 people attended a 7-Course Business Services class at Workforce Wayne in order to start their own small businesses. Day 42: Thanks to you, transportation was provided for 137 clients to Telespond Senior Services’ Adult Day program. The clients spent their day in a clean, safe, warm and nurturing environment and then, also thanks to you, they received transportation back home. Day 45: Thanks to you, 10 children participated in Shalom Scranton’s Young Chefs Academy. This new program offers children the experience of cooking healthy affordable meals and snacks while learning about food safety and preparation, nutrition, ingredient labels and more. Day 43:Thanks to you, 309 Latino individuals were helped through outreach programs at Catholic Social Services of The Diocese of Scranton. CSS provides translation/interpretation services, immigration services, referral services, crisis intervention and educational programs to help them become an integral part of our community.

Day 46: Thanks to you, 418 children at the Boys and Girls Clubs of Northeastern Pennsylvania had a safe place to go, nutritious meals and opportunities for physical activity and enrichment programs after school and on Saturdays. Day 47: Thanks to you, 59 teens rolled up their sleeves to make a difference as Teen Leaders and Youth Board members #liveunited at the Greater Carbondale YMCA. #100daysofimpact Day 48: Thanks to you, the Honesdale Fire Department has been able to purchase life-saving equipment to respond to emergencies even faster and more efficiently.

Day 53: Thanks to you, the United Way’s Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) partnership with the University of Scranton filed 2,428 FREE tax returns last year for wage earners in need to help them on the road to greater financial stability. Day 54: Thanks to you, 433 young people from at-risk, lowincome backgrounds receive financial assistance to participate in Scouting through the Northeastern Pennsylvania Council, Boy Scouts of America. Day 55: Thanks to you, Victims’ Intervention Program helped 112 children receive crisis and counseling services during school hours.

Day 49: Thanks to you, 226 senior adults participated in physical activities to maintain a healthy lifestyle at the Scranton Jewish Community Center.

Day 56: Thanks to you, 58 adults and children received muchneeded dental care through Jewish Family Service of NEPA’s free Dental Clinic.

Day 50: We’re halfway through the #100DaysofImpact! Thanks to you, 22 young children were able to attend quality preschool programs at the Greater Scranton YMCA while their parents were at work.

Day 57: Thanks to you, the Salvation Army connected 1,074 households in need with utility assistance.

Day 51: Thanks to you, 883 people in our community in need of counseling received help and support through Catholic Social Services. This counseling helps to ease depression and anxiety and helps people deal with problems such as marital/family issues or substance abuse. Day 52: Thanks to you, 45 children with intellectual and developmental disabilities, including autism, and their families received advocacy services through The Arc of NEPA to help obtain an inclusive public education.

Day 58: Thanks to you, 17 homeless, pregnant women found safe shelter at St. Joseph Center’s Walsh Manor and all of them received critical prenatal care and counseling. Day 59: Thanks to you, our Success By 6 program worked with 5 Wayne County elementary schools to help 375 preschoolers successfully transition to Kindergarten. There’s 40 days left in the 2014 annual campaign...and in our look at the 100 Days of Impact...100 ways your generosity has made a lasting difference right here at home! Day 60: Thanks to you, 210 enthusiastic volunteers were connected with opportunities to give back through the Voluntary Action Center of NEPA.

Day 61: Thanks to you, 254 children enjoyed recreational and educational opportunities in the City of Scranton on the playgrounds of their neighborhood schools or parks through the Boys and Girls Clubs’ Park It program last summer. Day 62: Thanks to you, 238 6th graders and 93 7th graders #liveunited from Wallenpaupack Area School District gained greater financial literacy by participating in the Junior Achievement #100daysofimpact BizTown & Finance Park Programs. The students learn how to make intelligent financial decisions related to income, expenses, savings, and credit. Day 65: Children with developmental disabilities/special needs often do not have developmentally appropriate toys and Day 63: Thanks to you, 32 blind/visually impaired individuals equipment available to them. regularly participate in exercise and life skills classes at Lackawanna Blind Association to reduce isolation while helping Thanks to you, 74 children with special needs participated in them cope with their visual impairment. UCP of NEPA’s Lekotek program. The Lekotek leader models play strategies which enhance both the child’s development and the family’s relationships. Various types of toys, including specially adapted toys, can be borrowed and used at home between the monthly sessions.

Day 64: Thanks to you, 97 seniors living on low, fixed incomes lent their services as Senior Companions to 475 frail, isolated seniors through Telespond Senior Services helping all of them enjoy the dignity and independence that we each hope to have in our golden years!

Day 66: Thanks to you, Success By 6’s First Steps New Parent Resource Kits were distributed to 260 families in Wayne County through Wayne Memorial Hospital, Maternal and Family Health Services and Catholic Social Services of The Diocese of Scranton. Nourishing food and friendly companionship are often among the best medicine!

Day 68: Thanks to you, there were 2,052 visits to St. Joseph Center’s Baby Pantry for essentials such as clothing, diapers, food and more.

Day 70: Thanks to you, 21 children and their families received scholarship assistance to attend quality preschool programs at United Neighborhood Centers of Northeastern Pennsylvania to help prepare them for success in school‌and life!

Day 72: Thanks to you, 95 preschoolers at the Greater Carbondale YMCA got nurturing, quality pre-k education while their parents were at work. Day 73: Thanks to you, 175 blind/visually impaired individuals maintain independence within their own homes through supportive services from Lackawanna Blind Association. The help is everything from bill paying to household chores to transportation for medical appointments. Day 74: Thanks to you and your support of the United Way in Wayne County, the Hawley Public Library now has a place for students and tutors to meet and book discussion groups to be held. Day 75: Thanks to you, 29 frail older adults with special needs were able to maintain the maximum level of personal independence in their own homes through supportive services from Jewish Family Service of NEPA.

Day 76: Thanks to you, 53 individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities in Wayne County received advocacy services through the Arc of NEPA. Day 77: Thanks to you, the United Way’s Success By 6 program worked with 2,160 children and their families to help ease the transition to Kindergarten, reaching children in 26 elementary #liveunited schools within 12 districts in Lackawanna and Wayne #100daysofimpact Counties. Through field trips, activities and publications like the customized “What Do You Wonder About Kindergarten” book Day 84: Thanks to you, 121 children and adults received these children are well on their way to success! financial assistance to enjoy healthier lifestyles with reduced program fees at the Greater Scranton YMCA. Healthy and Girls’ Clubs. Futures focuses on an overall increase in the child’s physical activity and nutritional knowledge with support at home. Last Day 80: Voluntary Action Center of NEPA operates FIRST – year, 585 children participated in this award-winning program! the area’s Free Information and Referral hotline to connect people in need with services available to help them in times of Day 86: Thanks to you, 2,000 community members continue to crisis or emergency. Day 89: Thanks to you, 2,423 individuals and families in crisis received emergency services from United Neighborhood Centers of Northeastern Pennsylvania. Day 90: Thanks to you, 20 senior adults maintained their independence in their own homes with either portable air conditioning units or heaters through your support of United Way and the Wayne County Area Agency on Aging.

Day 91: On this Veteran’s Day, thanks to you, members of the Armed Forces and their families receive timely, reliable emergency communications through the American Red Cross of Lackawanna County’s Services to Armed Forces program. Last year, 68 families used this service to contact deployed loved ones with emergency messages and 43 of those families received follow-up services and referrals. Day 92: Thanks to you, 4,338 local people without enough to eat were helped by Catholic Social Services to feed their families. Day 93: Thanks to you, 5 blind/visually impaired individuals participated in computer training at the Lackawanna Blind Association to learn how to use adaptive software and technology while 45 visually impaired adults enjoyed social activities such as descriptive movies and audio book clubs.

Adult Day Care program where they worked to develop skills necessary for greater independence and control in their lives. Day 99: Thanks to you, 104 senior adults received help with basic activities of daily living such as personal care, meal preparation, household chores and more through Telespond Senior Services. This program not only helps delay admission to long-term care facilities but also helps these individuals have more dignity and independence. Day 100: Thanks to you, 272 people with intellectual and development disabilities and their families received home visits from an RN or LPN through UCP of NEPA. For children, this includes screenings to obtain needed devices and services so the child can attend school. Assistance provided to adults includes obtaining home adaptations to maintain independence or referrals to other helpful programs.

Day 94: Thanks to you, 13 new moms living with their babies at St. Joseph Centers’ Mother Infant Home participated in parenting, financial management and other life skills programs. Day 95: Thanks to you, 67 children and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities received one-on-one help from UCP of NEPA with assistive technology devices designed to help with basic activities of daily living. The devices range from those that help with eating or getting dressed to more sophisticated devices that help with computer access or communication. Day 96: Thanks to you, emergency food and clothing needs were met for 12,836 low-income families at United Neighborhood Centers of Northeastern Pennsylvania. Day 97: Thanks to you, 62 Wayne County families were given the Gift of Warmth last year and received emergency heat/utility assistance during the coldest winter months.
