COMMUNITY PARTNERS IN ACTION MISSION CENTER ADULT DAY SERVICE Healthcare Program

CASA DE AMIGOS Education Station

One of our 4th grade students, “Isaac” has ADHD and trouble focusing. His parents expressed concerned when he first enrolled in the Education Station. After a few conversations with his parents, we realized he needed special attention with his homework needs. At first, it was somewhat challenging for him to open up to others because of his shy nature. However, we could see he was a bright student because he knew most of the material he was learning. His main obstacle was focusing on his studies. After several weeks, Isaac has opened up and interacts with his peers. He sometimes gets his homework done without our direct supervision. There are days that are hard for him, but for the most part, he has improved. In fact, his mother has noted the benefits of his attendance. She highlighted how his grades have improved and how he gets most of his work done in a timely manner. We are fortunate to serve struggling students like Isaac and watch them succeed.

One of our clients, Nathan, suffered from uncontrolled hypertension. Because of a tragic accident that took his eyesight, he was unable to care for himself. Also, he had little to no assistance once he left Mission Center Adult Day Service. His neighbor stepped up and became his caregiver.

THE SALVATION ARMY Emergency Shelter

We have built an effective partnership with her that ensures the tasks we are unable to complete are done, such as taking Nathan to the doctor and picking up his prescriptions.

Anthony was homeless but refused to stay here. He was hired as a bell ringing for us which opened the door for some ministry. We were able to build a relationship and talk him into allowing us to walk alongside him.

Nathan’s transformation is AMAZING. He exercises at MCADS, utilizing the stationary bikes & resistance bands without prompting. Nathan’s diet has also changed drastically in that he is now eating vegetables! It is impossible to complete this race on your own, it takes a team: in Nathan’s case, a caring neighbor, and MCADS staff.

After we talked him into staying with us, he did everything that was asked. We ended up giving him a job at the store and because he was able to mark down that he was employed, we got him to the top of the list for section 8 housing. A few weeks later, he came into the office to show his new set of keys for his brand-new apartment. When we decided to try and tackle the chronic homelessness problem this is what we were hoping for. Anthony did the work himself and because so, he is both proud and motivated. He has had some reconciliation with his family, and they even offered to buy some household stuff for him. There are many other hurt souls and children of God who only need a little direction and to show them that someone still cares.

EMPLOYEE CAMPAIGN COORDINATORS The Employee Campaign Coordinator (ECC) is a United Way of Midland advocate in the workplace who encourages co-workers to create a stronger community by planning, organizing, and giving to the Annual Campaign. An ECC is the foundation of the work United Way accomplishes in our community, as they are the gatekeeper to the companies and organizations who generously give to the bulk of United Way fundraising efforts. On top of their normal work duties, these ECCs go above and beyond in their volunteer roles with Campaign. We are thankful for all of their amazing work and contribution to our city!
