Top 10 Tips To Help You Find Work

National Insurance Number

A part time CV should be shorter than a graduate CV. More detail should be given to practical skills relevant to the position being applied for.

1. Register with our online vacancy system at www.uws.prospects.ac.uk and sign up for email alerts.

Everyone over the age of 16 who works in the UK pays National Insurance contributions, as long as earnings are more than a certain level.

Career Objective - this can be omitted from a part time CV - unless the position being applied for is a stepping stone to your career aspirations.

British citizens in the UK are issued with an National Insurance number automatically once they turn 16 years old.

International students who wish to work in the UK may apply for a number by calling 0845 6000 643 (text phone 0845 6000 644). They will ask for your details and a post code, and arrange an interview for you at the nearest centre which is in Glasgow. Please note this number can be very busy.

Education - your degree title and institution you are attending is sufficient. Practical skills gained at University will also be useful eg. Working as part of a team, good communication skills, IT Skills, working on your own initiative. Work Experience - relevant work experience for the position being applied for should be included. Other Skills - eg. First Aid, Driving licence, computing skills, languages. Interests - can be included but only if the interests are relevant to the position being applied for. Referees - two referees should be included preferably employer references, although academic references can be used.

4. Have your CV checked over by one of our Careers Advisers. 5. Register with local recruitment agencies. 6. Visit your local JobcentrePlus office or visit their website.
