Types of Placements at UWS
Taken from feedback from UWS students who have undertaken placements:
Sandwich Placements - These usually take the form of one 12-month block or two 6-month blocks of paid industry experience.
• Improve your career prospects. Employers
are very interested in placement experience
• Boost your confidence • Improve commercial awareness and business acumen
• Build people skills such as communication, problem solving, team work, and self management
• Improve knowledge about yourself • Opportunity to network and build up industry contacts
• Develop new skills • Transfer theoretical knowledge into practical experience
• Clarify career plans • Make your CV stand out from the crowd
These placements are available in the Schools of Business, Computing, Engineering and Science. Short Projects or Work Based Learning (WBL) Working with local companies in short specific project work or within a company for a fixed period of time (up to 12 weeks). This option is available in most Schools. You should check with your Placement Co-ordinator which work placement opportunities are available to you. A full list of Placement Co-ordinators can be found on our Blackboard module.
Summer Internships - Many organisations offer summer (8-12 week) paid placements. Any student can apply for these. It is likely that these placements will NOT be credit bearing as part of your course. The experience will, however, look great on your CV.
