Next, make a priority list of what is most important to you, your family and your fiancé. Maybe your groom really wants a band; maybe your mom insists on gourmet food; and you just want spectacular flowers. Well, all three of those priorities come with a price tag and something may need to be sacrificed to fit the budget. Have an honest conversation with everyone who is contributing financially to the big day and make sure everyone’s opinions are considered thoughtfully before making final decisions. Having a priority list is very helpful as you wade through all the fabulous wedding choices – if a fabulous band is the top priority, make sure you remind yourself of the fun you’ll have on the dance floor as you make adjustments in other categories.

Congratulations on your engagement! This is such an exciting time in your life – you’ve found ‘the one’ and he asked. You said yes! During this time there will be so many things to consider, discuss and decide. As an experienced planner, having worked with over 400 couples in the last 12 years, I encourage you to dream about your big day and imagine all the possibilities. But when it is time to start working on those plans in earnest, please consider these three tips to help bring the dream to reality.
First, make a reasonable guest list. I encourage all my clients to do this as a first task before choosing a venue. You don’t want to have a venue that is too small or too large for all your friends and family, and venue costs vary greatly from several hundred dollars to several thousand. The venue is often one of the biggest costs, so consider the guest list before choosing a venue. Most of the time, we see about 70 percent of the guest list actually attend the wedding. Of course, you know your family and friends best. 4

And finally, make a reasonable timeline. There are a lot of decisions to make and a lot of vendors to consider (use this handy magazine as your guide). But break up the tasks into reasonable and coordinated efforts: choose your venue before booking your caterer (some venues have restrictions on who can work in their kitchen); choose dresses for you and the bridesmaids before talking to the florist; let your DJ or band, caterer, coordinator and photographer all contribute to the wedding day timeline. These efforts, when worked on in small bits, can make the planning so much more enjoyable because it will be less stressful. Make sure to enjoy this special time in your life and take time to relax. Lean on your close friends and family for help, and trust your instincts. If you need help, the professionals featured in this magazine are just a phone call (or text or email) away. EVERY BRIDE WANTS TO BE BLUSHING ON THEIR WEDDING DAY; with beautiful glowing skin and a blemish free complexion that the photographer won’t have to edit out. Brides also deserve a spa day to ease their nerves before jumping the broom. At BlueWater Aesthetics, LLC (402 ½ Broad Street, Rome), the bride and her bridal party can find everything they need to relax and rejuvenate their skin before the big day. Owner and soon-to-be bride, Tiffany Ruble, creates custom spa treatments for bridal parties with top of the line products and implements only found in medical spas. With her wedding fast approaching, Tiffany can relate to the needs of a bridal party. Tiffany graduated from Covenant College in Lookout Mountain, Ga. with a bachelor's degree in business management. After, she studied at the Dalton Institute of Esthetics and partnered with Atlanta’s Dermalogica. Ruble is a licensed aesthetician with a laser certification, and she also holds a microblading certificate and permit. She has her own IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) machine that can be used to treat hyperpigmentation, increase collagen production, or reduce acne, rosacea and unwanted hair growth. Her business provides everything a person could want to take care of their aesthetic needs. With a gorgeous space and tranquil setting, the calming sounds of water and the twinkle of fairy lights add beauty to the Tiffany Blue hues throughout the spa. The waiting area is stunning and beckons you to sit on the white leather couches and have a cup of tea or coffee while you wait. Ruble has created a lovely spa environment for her clients that graciously lends to her approach to treatment. Whether it is a girls’ day out or a bridal shower, BlueWater Aesthetics can be rented as a space to host bridal 6

showers and bachelorette parties. Groups of ten or less can book the space, complete with 30 minute personal treatments per person. Tiffany says that these sessions include, “a steamed cleanse, and I will offer a really thorough microderm and gentle peel. I work on the chest, neck and face, and I finish with a galvanic facial. So, it’s a great treatment that I can get done in about 30 minutes.” Of course, those sessions can be customized. Tiffany says that’s one of the perks of owning her own business. “I can work to provide treatments specific to my clients. Everything is customizable to what the bride wants.” Skin rejuvenation is Tiffany’s specialty. With that in mind, she recommends that bridal parties be scheduled three to four weeks in advance. If a bride is planning to transform her skin, she needs to come in six months before the wedding. “Skin doesn’t change overnight, but if you want a beautiful glow for the big day, I recommend a week in between the treatments and the wedding. You want to ensure that any redness or peeling is gone. “As a medical spa, I specialize in changing the skin from the inside out. I use and sell medical grade products including Obagi Medical and Isdinceutics. Medical grade products are medicines for the skin and vital to produce the results my clients want to see.” She utilizes dermaplaning, microneedling, IPL, radio frequency, chemical peels, hydrofacials and more. Her goal is to find the best solution for all skin care needs. The gifts of a fresh face and radiant skin may not fit inside the standard treatment box, and Tiffany’s mission is to ensure that the treatments cater to each individual client.
“I focus on the quality of the treatment, not the quantity of clients.” She sees fewer clients in a day than most offices because she wants to ensure that they receive the treatment that they need. BlueWater Aesthetics is one of the only medical spas in the area located outside of a doctor’s office. Tiffany explains, “I am very thorough and results oriented. My work is not done until my clients are luminous and completely satisfied. I work hard and I do not cut corners. Even if you are just coming in for a party, you’re going to be leaving with what I call the BlueWater glow. I know, it’s very cheesy but it’s true! Everyone leaves glowing!” Visit BlueWater Aesthetics at 405 1/2 Broad Street in downtown Rome, find BlueWater Aesthetics on Facebook @BlueWaterAesthetics or call ahead for an appointment at 706.537.7006

THEY SAY THAT YOU CAN TELL WHEN A PERSON IS IN LOVE BY THEIR SMILE. Weddings are a time for celebration, laughter and smiles that make your cheeks hurt. The last thing a bride wants is to be self-conscious about her smile on one of the happiest days of her life. Fortunately, the team at Hortman Carney Dental (15 Professional Ct, Rome) is here to provide all of the dental needs a bride and groom could ever want for their wedding. Dr. Kyle Carney, DMD dedicates his life’s work to ensure that Hortman Carney Dental offers “a comprehensive list of dental services.” “We treat adults to kids, the full family. I like to think of it as family dentistry,” he smiles.
t he smi l e
With the full range of services, Dr. Carney can meet any dental needs that a client could be looking for. But for brides in particular, there are several ways that Dr. Carney can help you achieve a smile that is worthy of falling in love with. “If a bride is looking to brighten her smile for her wedding day, we have whitening options and simple cleanings. But if a bride wants to transform her smile, we have the ability to do veneers or crowns. Basically, anything aesthetically that can be done for the wedding day from bleaching to full cosmetic work, we can handle,” explains Dr. Carney. An interested bride is only one short consultation away from a comprehensive treatment plan. Dr. Carney is a graduate of Shorter University and the Dental College of Georgia at Augusta University and has been practicing in Rome for 13 years. Through the years of practicing, he understands that “people want a brighter and prettier smile” on their wedding day. With top-of-the-line treatment options and highly-trained professionals on board, brides can have confidence in the abilities of the team and know that their smile will be taken care of. Wedding pictures last forever and Dr. Carney agrees that, “the smile is the focus of most of the wedding pictures.” Because some dental treatments require multiple visits, Dr. Carney recommends that a bride schedules her consultation at least three months prior to her wedding. “That way, if there is something comprehensive that needs to be done, we have enough time to be able to form a treatment plan,” he explains. While he does offer same-day, in-office whitening, the consultation still needs to be made three months before to be sure that the bride gets exactly what she needs for her wedding day. With a bright smile, brides can be sure to enjoy their wedding day without worry. Let Hortman Carney Dental take care of your teeth so that you can spend your wedding day celebrating love with a brilliant smile. SHE HAS SENT YOU PICTURES and Pinterest boards that detail one of the most important times in both of your lives. After studying the pages that outline the wedding of her dreams, you find that you are in need of advice from one of Northwest Georgia's most trusted jewelers. Greene’s Jewelers (328 Broad Street, Rome) will guide you every step of the way. This is where it all begins. Shopping for the perfect stone can seem overwhelming, and when you're not sure what a princess-cut is, finding a diamond for her can be a challenge. Greene's Jewelers can calm all of your fears so that you can find the ring of her dreams. Greene’s is a staple on Broad Street, and was started by George Greene in 1946. His oldest daughter, Joyce Greene Manning retired last December, leaving her daughter, Elaine Manning Abercrombie, at the helm. Tammy Kelley and Crisann Studdard are two essential parts of the team that make Greene’s a top quality jeweler. Kelley holds the title of Graduate Gemologist, one she earned through the Gemological Institute of America, and she is also a talented designer and appraiser. She has been an integral member of Greene’s since 1981. Studdard joined the establishment in 2007 and is currently studying to obtain the title of Graduate Gemologist. With these two guiding the experience, you can rest assured that you will receive personal service suited to your needs. Kelley says, “We specialize in custom design. We can design a one-of-a-kind piece made especially for you. It is our desire to offer the best possible experience for the couple.” With an in-house jeweler, Greene's can provide exactly what you need. And because they have those capabilities, making meaningful jewelry is possible. “We’ve had people come in with their mothers' and grandmothers' rings 10

wanting to make an engagement ring out of the heirloom pieces of jewelry,” Studdard says. The possibilities are endless and the ring of your fiancé's dream can be a reality. Besides engagement rings and wedding bands, Kelley adds that there other kinds of jewelry needs for a wedding, and Greene’s can help with all of them. They provide personalized bridesmaid and groomsmen gifts. With bridesmaid’s jewelry, they have the capability to match colors, giving your wedding party a seamless and polished look for the cameras. "For brides who want her attendants to match a certain color palette," explains Studdard, "jewelry can be made in sets. For daughters and granddaughters who wish to wear family heirlooms, Greene’s can restring pearls and make them look as good as new for the wedding day." With the personal touch of a familyowned and operated jewelry store, it’s much easier to trust meaningful pieces of jewelry to professionals who are accustomed to working with generational treasures. Before the wedding, Kelley and Studdard recommend that brides come in a week before the ceremony for one last cleaning and inspection. Jewelry cleaning is always free, even if the jewelry wasn’t purchased at Greene’s.
They want to ensure that the ring is bright and shiny for pictures. Greene’s has set a very high standard and their goal is to make sure that their clients are happy with their services. Beyond the purchase, they want their clients to know that they are now a part of the Greene’s family. So, take a deep breath and visit Greene’s Jewelers. With the help of the team at Greene’s, you can know that the stone she finds in the most important little box of her life will leave her speechless. Your adventure begins with a ring and ends with a happily ever after. EXPERIENCED. PROFESSIONAL. DETAILED. PERSONAL. The Season Events takes wedding planning to a new level by combining decades of experience with Southern hospitality, grace and charm. It all started in 2007, after owner and wedding planner, Holly Lynch, saw a need for professional event planning in the Rome, Georgia area. “There was a need for professional level of event planning, and since I come from a background in marketing, with experience in corporate event planning, I knew I could help fill that gap,” explains Lynch. Now, as a certified wedding planner, The Season Events plans around 40 weddings a year, caters an additional 30 weddings, and still has the time to cater and help plan another 100 plus events each year. Thankfully, Lynch doesn’t have to do all this alone. She has amassed a strong and willing team over the past years, with 12 permanent employees and another 50 contracted employees, all proud to help make each event both professional and personal, as only The Season Events can do. “We take every client seriously. We know it’s an honor to be trusted with someone’s daughter, someone’s granddaughter…and we want to reflect what the parents want and what the client values,” Lynch says. This is one of the reasons why “second daughter” weddings are so meaningful to Lynch. A “second daughter” wedding is one where they’ve helped a family marry one daughter, and then the family comes back the next time with another daughter who is engaged. “It is just so special,” says Lynch. “And one day, I hope that their kids come back, and I get to plan their weddings!” she smiles. “Clients become family. Period,” she continues. “As a wedding planner I’ve learned that families are letting me into their lives on one of the most important occasions. Many times this means a client will share personal details...I become their confidant. And I take that responsibility very seriously, because they’re family to me.”
t he pl a n n e r
As in all good Southern households, the family is large! And it keeps on growing. In just 12 years, Lynch and her team has helped orchestrate around 400 weddings. “And 200 babies have come from those unions!” smiles Lynch. Lynch often speaks with the “we” pronoun, because she credits her amazing team with growing and challenging her business to always improving. One such key member is The Season Events' other wedding planner, Nicole Williams. After working as a teacher for 17 years, while working part-time at The Season Events on the side, she joined the team full-time two years ago. “She’s changed everything about the way we’ve grown in these past two years,” says Lynch. “She is truly made for this job, and her clients just love her!” Whether working with Williams or Lynch, clients can expect nothing short of the best wedding planning services available. Whether they’re hired for day-of coordination or an all-inclusive package, The Season Events is prepared to design everything to fit their clients’ dreams. The team is equipped to help with everything; from catering the event, to designing invitations to planning honeymoons. And their clients feel the difference. “Truly one of the best moments in my career happened at the end of a wedding. We had just had the sparkler send-off for the bride and groom. The couple had just pulled away, and the bride’s mother grabs me in a bear hug and says ‘I had no idea it would be this fabulous!’ Her appreciation made all the sweat, heat, everything so worth it. It’s why I love what I do!” Find The Season Events at theseasonevents.com or call to set up a consult at 706.234.2244 V3 wedding compendium 2019

THE SEASONS EVENTS CATERING DIRECTOR, Ray Harris, shrugs and laughs when he gets called “The Food Genius.” Ever the humble man, he says that he prefers the term “Bottle Washer” instead. But after almost 30 years of experience in professional cooking and catering, it’s safe to say that Harris at least has food experience on his side, if not total genius. For Harris, his adventures in cooking began when he stayed at home with his two boys for several years. “Throughout those years, I slowly discovered my love of cooking.” Harris catered his first wedding reception in 1989. He then went on to manage a dining hall inside of a manufacturing plant and was tasked with feeding over 500 employees daily. 14

He also owned and operated a personal catering business for 20 years. Then, five years ago, “Holly and I decided to combine efforts and add to The Season Events. I believe I’ve finally found my niche,” he smiles. Lynch says that adding Harris to the operation is a natural fit. His attention to detail and level of professionalism completely matches what brides have come to expect from The Season Events. Able to work with any budget, Harris and his team strive to customize each menu for every single event. “We talk about what their vision is for their wedding,” says Harris. The catering team then is able to assemble the perfect collection of hors d'oeuvres, small bites, entrees, comfort food, desserts and much more.
With everything personalized and made-toorder, this also means that Harris isn’t afraid to jump through crazy hoops to delight his clients. From ordering oysters from New York, quail eggs from a South Georgia quail farm or even having live crawfish delivered to the kitchen; the catering team is always up for a challenge. “The thing I enjoy most is looking at an event menu and seeing how I can make it the best, the most pleasing. I constantly aim to improve and elevate the dishes,” says Harris Find The Season Events at theseasonevents.com or call to set up a consult at 706.234.2244

Taylored to You TAY L O R E S TAT E • BY M C K E N Z I E T O D D
VENUE SELECTION IS AN ESSENTIAL PART of wedding planning. It is perhaps the most important one you will make. While pretty much every aspect of your wedding is optional—from wearing a suit instead of a dress, to ditching flowers and forgoing the wedding cake—there is one item you cannot leave off the list. A venue influences your vendors, your budget, your decor and even your attire. It’s a big deal. However, we realize that finding the perfect venue isn’t an easy task. There are so many options to choose from, whether you are looking for a stunning, rustic lodge with a massive stone fireplace; an elegant mansion; a sprawling lakeside lawn; or an open-air pavilion. Lucky for you, we have found a venue that rolls all of these options into one: Taylor Estate (549 Minshew Road NE, Rome). Originally purchased around 13 years ago by Fred Taylor, owner of OTR Wheel Engineering, his plan for the site was to revitalize the 134 acres of land, which included a lake and to turn the property into a place for family recreation and other multipurpose uses. A few years down the road, Taylor purchased the adjoining 34-acre plot, which included a large home. The property now totals a massive 166 acres.

“Our family started out by allowing the YMCA summer program the use of the lake every year. We also hosted corporate functions, family picnics, Christmas parties, etc. The White House was used to house our father’s guests from the U.S. and foreign countries—it was a treat for them to come and stay in such a picturesque place while here for business,” explains Elisabeth and Kelly Taylor, co-managers of Taylor Estate. Where the Taylor’s were accustomed to hosting people and events on their property, it wasn’t until 2016 when Mr. Taylor decided to open the venue to the public. “We have had tons of family and friends host their weddings here in the past, way before we ever dreamed of turning this into a wedding venue for the public,” explains Elisabeth. “Our father previously created and ran two successful wedding venues in Northern Michigan, where we are originally from. So, it was just a natural progression to turn this property into a site for weddings,” says Kelly. Kelly and her sister Elisabeth’s first wedding went off without a hitch in September of 2018, fueling their desire to make other couples' dreams a reality. “The bride’s happiness is our joy," Kelly says with a smile. "We take pride in our work and go the extra mile to make sure everyone is happy. We obsess over details and work long hours to make sure everything is perfect. We love what we do!”

GRO OM 'S RO OM
The Taylor’s describe the boundless opportunities that make this venue a unique and all-encompassing space for future brides' to truly make their own. By choosing to rent a piece of the property or the entire property for their big day, everything is tailored to the wishes of the bride and groom. “In addition to the Lodge, we host weddings in our open-air covered Pavilion, which is perfect for smaller receptions, rehearsal dinners and other events,” says Kelly. Together with the Pavilion is the Lake House, a three-bedroom, cozy, ranch-style home in front of a spring-fed brook with beautiful lake views. The Lake House is also available to rent. Taylor Estate also offers their Hilltop Cabin which is a three-bedroom, two-story cabin perched on a hill with stunning views of the entire property. Taylor Estate also hosts the White House for more intimate events, which can accommodate approximately to 50-100 guests. The White House is a seven-bedroom, three-story, spacious and luxurious mansion with a wrap-around porch that is great for large groups wanting to stay together under one roof. The White House sleeps up to 20 guests. Here is a fun fact about the White House. “Ravishing” Rick Rude, a former WWE wrestler, built the mansion. The Taylor’s love to inform people of this piece of professional wrestling history when they visit. “We have always loved the beauty that surrounds the property,” says Kelly. “We have guests use the White House for parties, wedding and baby showers and receptions. In fact, the lawn next to it is great for small outdoor ceremonies and we also have a screened in pavilion right outside of it as well that is perfect for receptions.” The newest addition to the Taylor Estate acreage is The Lodge. “The Lodge has been two years in the making, as we started the process in 2016,” explains Kelly. “We finished up everything just in time for our first wedding in September of 2018, which turned out perfectly.” The Taylor’s made sure when they were planning for this site, that future guests would have everything they would need, all in one space. The Lodge's Nano doors offer a breathtaking view of the outdoors and while open provide a seamless transition from the elegant interior to the exterior courtyard. From the spacious commercial kitchen to the state-of-the-art sound system and stage with laser projectors, every bride and groom can have what they need in one location. There are even golf carts for rent. The Lodge also hosts a lovely bridal suite with a roomy make-up counter, stylish furniture and all that a bride would want for getting ready for her big day. There is also a groom’s suite outfitted with a big screen TV, poker table, dart board and more.
BRIDE'S RO OM
When couples book The Lodge, the set price includes the front lawn, tables and chairs set-up and break down, along with a day-of facilitator. Where there is a set price for booking your wedding at Taylor Estate, that doesn’t mean you are limited. Elisabeth and Kelly work non-stop to be sure each bride and groom are given the wedding of their dreams. “We don’t ever want to be unattainable. We pride ourselves in trying to accommodate anyone and everyone. With that being said, we offer lots of different price points, and as we grow, the options become more endless,” says Kelly. “We are always working to be better and to develop a property to fit our growing needs, which I feel is one of the greatest things about our venue.” Taylor Estate is not just a wedding venue, however. They do much more. The duo hosts engagement and birthday parties, baby and bridal showers, school events, family reunions, team building exercises, small theater groups, mission conferences, corporate events and more. “Our state-of-the-art laser projector system is a huge draw for big companies around the area, such as Harbin Clinic. Unity Christian School also hosted their annual auction here. And coming up, we will host a team building event for OTR, a mission’s conference and several weddings,” says Kelly. “We are constantly trying to develop new offerings and amenities for all of our clients to enjoy.” “This is truly more than just a job to us,” Elisabeth explains. “We are truly passionate about this and we really enjoy it. We love the details and the opportunity to make someone happy. That is our goal and that is what makes us happy.” If you are interested in booking the Taylor Estate for your wedding or upcoming event, visit their website at www.taylorestateromega.com. WHETHER YOU’VE BEEN DREAMING of your wedding dress since you were five years old and know the exact requirements for it down to the last sequin, or you have never thought about it until planning for the big day, there are professionals who can help you to find the perfect look. Finding your dream gown can be stressful. After all, your dress sets the tone for the wedding, whether you are having a grand ballroom affair or a casual beach bash. From tulle, A-line, fit and flare, organza and sheath, the options are endless. And with all eyes on you, you are expected to look your best. Regardless of your budget, your personal style or your timeline, Perfect Dress of Rome (2013 Shorter Ave, Rome) is here to help you find your dream dress—the one you’ll love today and 30 years from now when you look back at your wedding photos. Alison Smith, Owner of Perfect Dress of Rome, grew up knowing she would one day take the baton from her aunt and then get started celebrating brides and helping them to find their dream gown. For ten years now, her love of weddings and all things bridal is still a driving force in her business. After 40 years of serving three generations of grandmothers, to mothers and daughters, nothing has changed as far as a customer’s experience and the level of service. This is what Alison prides herself on the most. “The experience is hands down the best part of Perfect Dress of Rome. Not only do we have the gowns that people are looking for, because we listen, but we truly work to be sure that our brides are getting that overall bridal experience,” she smiles. “That is where it sets us apart; you’re special, it’s your day and your event… let’s make the most of it.” Over the past year, Perfect Dress of Rome has transitioned to a full-service bridal boutique, so brides can now purchase their dresses from the salon, as well as have them altered in house by full-time seamstress, April Abernathy. “We have worked really hard to make Perfect Dress a one stop shop. Once our brides purchase their dress from us, they don’t have to take it somewhere else for alterations. “Having a full-service alterations department in store is great,” she continues, “because we can customize any gown to the specifications of the bride. They might fall in love with a strapless
dress but really wanted straps. That is not a problem since April can put them on in-house.” Smith and her consultants, April Abernathy, Sherry Agan, Samantha Agan, Chardonnay Copeland as well as several part-time bridal experts, constantly stay busy as Perfect Dress of Rome houses around 200 different gowns in-store. Because of the wide array of choices, dress buying can be a process and Smith wants her brides to take their time. “We encourage appointments mainly because there is so much detail that goes into buying a wedding gown,” says Smith. “Also, dresses can take up to six months to come in, so I always recommend that brides come in six to nine months before their wedding to shop. The alterations process can take an additional four to six weeks depending on what is being done. Even a year is not too early to get started.” Their gowns range in price from $250 all the way to $2,000. By offering budget-friendly options, Smith hopes to make every bride’s dream come true. Alongside bridal, one third of their business is bridesmaids’ dresses and tux rentals; however, a focus that has been on the rise lately is a gown for mom.

“We cater to around 15 to 20 mothers a week who are looking for dresses. That is an area that we are diligently working to expand. Mothers sometimes get left out of the loop until last minute, and we want to be able to help them as much as we help our brides,” says Smith. LA SCALA MEDITERRANEAN BISTRO (413 Broad Street, Rome) has been in business for 23 years and owner Anthony Barba says his services have evolved with his clients. That evolution has remained in lockstep with La Scala's reputation for fine dining and commitment to excellent service. “We have always made a growing effort to focus primarily on service, and that’s what sets us apart. We absolutely have the best service in Downtown Rome for sure, and we absolutely have the best food in Downtown Rome, in my opinion,” says Barba. The downtown culinary mainstay is a popular destination for planning wedding rehearsal dinners. In fact, Barba says that they are booking rehearsal dinners more and more nowadays. La Scala prepares an average of over 30 rehearsal dinners per year. “One thing that sets our process of rehearsal dinners apart from other providers is that we allow people to request anything that they want, even if it’s something we’ve never done before. Once we are able to pinpoint the main course or courses, we try to build and develop a menu around those food items,” Barba says. Barba and his staff traditionally serve an Italian and Mediterranean menu, but they welcome the challenge to develop something new. It helps them to grow and be more flexible, which translates to the ability to offer more for their clients. “We like something that’s different than what we would normally prepare, so no menu item is out of the realm of possibility.” La Scala has multiple dining spaces, including the main dining room, a rooftop event space upstairs, and an adjacent studio space next door to the restaurant for your on-site catering needs. Not only do they offer spaces for your event, they will bring the food to your event if need be. “We’ll set up a rehearsal dinner at your house, at your business, at your church or other sites of families may request,” says Mr. Barba. “We also 22

have the ability to acquire an off-premises alcohol pouring license if necessary. That’s not offered by most caterers as there is only one other area caterer who can provide drinks and a bartender.” Barba wants to advise interested parties that his standards are very high and that is why they stay busy. “We are the best. We are very adaptable to our customer's needs. We are not just going to give you a list of menu options to choose from; the sky is the limit for us. Tell us what you want, and we will prepare our variation of it. Some people just want to be a caterer; some people just want to be a restaurant. What helps defines us and separates us from others is that we are both. I admit, it’s not easy, as you have to be very adept at having multiple balls in the air to be exceptional at both.” An example of the versatility of La Scala’s rehearsal dinners just so happens to be one of Mr. Barba’s favorite dinners. “My favorite rehearsal dinner so far has to be a Cinco de Mayo themed dinner we catered a year ago. There were 110 people and we did the entire dinner family style. We had large, long tables and we served multiple courses of different style tacos, Mexican street corn and many other traditional Hispanic dishes. It was a lot of fun for us. The shared plate atmosphere went over very well. Another favorite meal for us is the time we cooked a whole 120-pound pig and carved it right there on the table. That was also fun. “The frequency to which we perform a rehearsal dinner," Barba continues, "makes us a little more in tune to how important it is to take the jobs seriously. I mean, it is someone’s important day; their family and close friends are around them. They’re generally spending a good bit of money, and we don’t want them to have any additional worries or headaches. We’re here to make those worries non-existent. Between myself, our head chef Logan Littlejohn and other awesome key staff members, we couldn’t get it done. My supervisors, my bartenders and all of the staff are just awesome. We also have an event coordinator, Arion Bass (706) 238-9000), who arranges all of the timings and the tastings. She can also help with the decorations. Between all of us, it works well.” With the frequency to which La Scala books rehearsal dinners, you should call and schedule a tasting the minute you know the date. It is first come, first serve booking based on the availability. “Our maximum number is two events per day. That includes any combination of on-site and off-site. I’m not going to bite off more than I can chew because we take our goal to be accommodating to our customers seriously. The time frame of the dinner depends on the individual customer. We ask for an estimated time, but once the deposit is made, the space is yours for the three to four-hour time period. So, you determine how long your rehearsal dinner is by your arrival time to the dinner,” explains Barba. La Scala can handle rehearsal dinners with guest counts between 10 and 150. The restaurant has hosted dinners with approximately 400 guests, so party size is not an issue. “We have a niche, a skill set for rehearsal dinners. We deal with daily fine dining service, so when it comes to those larger groups, you’re definitely getting an upgraded level of service and definitely an upgraded level of food." IT’S NOT UNUSUAL to dream about your wedding day before it actually arrives. In fact, some people dream about their special day for years, even before receiving that sparkling piece of jewelry that sets things in motion. The team at Salon Stella & Blu Dry Bar (200 Broad Street, Rome) offers unique and reliable services for brides-to-be who have been planning their bridal look. Owner of Stella Blu Cosmetics, Tiffany Barnes, takes pride in the ability of Salon Stella stylists and their knack for creating what ladies desire most. “One thing I am so very proud of is that we listen and we are always open to doing what our clients want,” Barnes says. “We train our staff to listen and to go the extra mile to make our clients look perfect.” Barnes always recommends that future clients not wait around after the date is set. “We always recommend that clients call as soon as they know the date of their event. We book up quickly. Right now, we are already booking well into 2020,” explains Barnes.“Usually, we prefer brides to call the boutique or visit us in person to discuss their appointment. Then, they can ask questions before booking. This gives us the opportunity to work through all the details and allows us to start the beginning stages of the personal touches we like to offer.” Their stylists recommend scheduling your consultation a couple of months before your event date, as things can and will change during the course of wedding planning. “We always encourage brides to make use of our trial runs. Trials serve as the perfect chance to show your stylist your dream bridal look, to talk through photos of what you envision, and gives them a chance to get out all of the nerves related to their special day. “All looks can be recreated,” continues Barnes, “but sometimes, through a trial, the bride may find herself wanting to change small details or change a look all-together. The stylists can help make suggestions according to hair texture, length, thickness, etc. All of these are factors in recreating a look. Our stylists are very knowledgeable in this department.” Barnes also loves when brides take advantage of their trials and schedule them for days they have a shower, engagement pictures or other events as this gives them a chance to see how

their hair and makeup will look in photos. It also gives the bride a chance to see the natural wear and longevity of her chosen style. Also important, the stylist performing the trial is the same stylist who will perform the duties on your wedding day and notes are recorded to make sure the look can be recreated with the same application and products. According to Barnes, this is done so everyone is sure of what is happening on the day of, to avoid confusion. “One thing I am very proud of is how organized we are when it comes to time management, scheduling, etc.,” says Barnes. “When we book an event, we make sure to stay in contact with our bride. As the wedding day approaches, we send an email detailing each individual person receiving a service. We see the event through from start to finish. “Whether it is an in-store or an on-site wedding, we want the bride and her wedding party to trust that everything will work out effortlessly. We always try to keep that in the forefront of our minds, because it makes for a smooth day for the bride and staff,” explains Barnes. Stella Blu does offer in-store or on-site options for brides when they book their style of choice. However, in order to travel to venues, there is a four-person minimum for both hair and make-up. They also host a full-service salon with color and cut services where many men and women frequent daily.
“To us, your wedding is not just another event," Barnes says with a smile. "It’s a huge day in a bride’s life, and we want to make sure they are getting quality time spent on their chosen styles. Being personal with our brides and just truly getting to know them is so important to us.” Visit Stella Blu at 200 Broad Street in Downtown Rome, find them on Facebook @stellablubeauty or call ahead for an appointment at 706.234.7900 V3 wedding compendium 2019

IT'S HARD TO IMAGINE a wedding without flowers. Fortunately, you do not need to entertain that thought in Northwest Georgia. Bussey's Flowers and Gifts (250 Broad Street, Rome) has been making fairytale visions a reality for over 40 years. With two locations serving Polk, Floyd, and designated areas in Bartow County, it is easy to set an appointment and tell their florists how to make your dreams come true. The award-winning event team, headed by Justin Bradford and his assistant Pearl Gay, are ready to serve you and handle the
flowers for your special occasion. Bradford, lead designer and event manager, works closely with clients and his staff to ensure standards and expectations are always surpassed. Producing a wedding or any social event is no easy task. When asked how Bussey's florists approach a wedding, Bradford admitted there is no one formula that fits every situation. "Everyone has different tastes, styles and schedules," Bradford explains. "So, we do our level best to accommodate our clients' needs. We do not always get to meet the bride and groom. Many consults are taken by phone or via email. Rome and the surrounding area has become an area that is perfect for weddings and we are seeing couples from all over the Southeast choose our venues to tie the knot. It is a wonderful midway point if you have family in Alabama and Tennessee who will be making the trip." Questions are often always the same for their clients: How many in the bridal party? Have you picked a color palette? Do you have a hard line budget? And the customary list goes on. "We do our best to meet clients where they are and still offer them the design they desire. Then we take all of that info and turn it into a written proposal. That's when the real work begins," says Bradford.
t he f l owe r s
It does not matter how the process is started, the goal is always the same. "Our number one goal is to make sure every couple that walks through our door is satisfied," Bradford says. "From the customer picking up a $20 wrap of flowers to a six-figure event, we offer the same great customer service regardless of the price tag. At the end of the day, we are just your friendly neighborhood flower shop, and we want to be a part of all the occasions in your life." Bradford's advice to brides or anyone planning an event is simple. "Start planning with us as soon as you have set a date," he says. "Spring and fall dates book up quickly. Also, try to narrow your vision board to your favorite designs. Instead of 50-plus pictures just bring your ten favorites. It definitely helps to have a budget in mind. If you don't know how to price out your flowers, we can help you figure that out." Bradford also says that researching what is in season for your event date before speaking with a florist is paramount. That way your heart is not broken when you find that the peonies you love are not available in January. He says that to look their best, some flowers have limitations. "Hydrangeas, for example, are a poor choice for an outdoor event in the summer," Bradford explains. "Many people want to know where their flowers are coming from. The answer is, literally, from all around the world. We source flowers from Holland, Southeast Asia, South America, Latin America, California, Alaska and Washington State depending on where we can find plants that are the quality we require. We do our best to source as much as we can locally but it is truly a global market now. " Bussey's team is ready to service your event anywhere in Northwest Georgia, Southeastern Tennessee or Northeastern Alabama. It is easy to see that the team at Bussey's, under the creative direction of Todd Bussey who is the second generation owner, is still delivering unexpected beauty after a long and storied history in Northwest Georgia. What they would love more than anything is for you to let them be part of your history. No matter the occasion, Bussey's is ready to help make it just a little more memorable. YOUR WEDDING CAKE IS NOT JUST ANY OTHER CAKE; it is a statement and a testament to you and your love on one of the most important days of your life. Alexis Wilson, owner and baker at Sweet Crumb Company, knows this and aims to surprise and delight with all of her wedding creations. And that’s why whether it be the show-stopping wedding cake, the slightly-smaller-yet-amazing groom’s cake or even the delightful treats surrounding such as French macaroons and stylized sugar cookies; Wilson’s wedding treats are always personal, detailed and professional. Wilson started her professional culinary career 12 years ago when she graduated from Le Cordon Bleu in Atlanta, Ga. She went on to intern at a posh bed and breakfast and then to work at Aramark Food Services where she managed Shorter University’s dining services until 2016. Yet six years ago, Wilson’s baking was made even sweeter by the addition of her children - three boys now ranging in ages from three to seven. She began baking birthday

cakes and treats for them and stumbled into what is now her full time passion and business: Sweet Crumb Company. “And it certainly helps that they are the professional taste testers,” laughs Wilson. What was first just a few birthday cakes or wedding shower treats started to grow into wedding cakes for family and friends. One of Wilson’s friends saw and encouraged her talent during this early stage. “A friend told me ‘you need to think about this seriously. You should go for it,’” Wilson recalls. “Now it’s pretty much full time for me,” she continues, as her youngest calls “Mommy!” in the next room. This causes her smile to widen. “This is the reason I do it. I can be home with my kids and still do what I love.” Sweet Crumb Company is operated out of Wilson’s house. “I bake out of my house with a Georgia Cottage Food License and a ServSafe Food Certification.” This allows her to bake early in the morning or late at night, depending on her children's schedule. It is also this family focus that makes Wilson that much better at her job. “One of the reasons I love baking for special occasions and family events is because that’s what my family loves.” To Wilson, baking for other families is like an extension of baking for her own family. And she sees each client as such. “When people gather together, there’s always food. I love being a part of that in a small way for other people’s families.” And clients notice the difference. Many call her cakes the “centerpiece of the party.” This is due, no doubt, to the professional quality and detailed beauty of each of Wilson’s masterpieces. But it also has much to do with the personal approach Wilson takes with each of her orders. “It’s a personal experience,” she explains. “The person you’re ordering from is designing, baking and even delivering your order. From start to finish there is a personal connection.” You can submit an order inquiry for your wedding cake at Sweet Crumb Company online via Instagram or Facebook direct messaging.
