Failures in the wood result in failures during the construction process. The laminations were improperly glued during manufacturing and holes similar to above are seen throughout the entire piece. All breaks occured at these points. Small impercievable fractures along the grain of the wood cause the entire peice of wood to snap in half. There was very little stress applied to the wood to cause the entire piece to fail.

Construction Process revealed further weaknesses in the material, resulting in fissures and breaks of the material. The initial scheme required the controlled warping of wood, to gradually create the ergonomic shape as determined through the research process. This failure of construction methods resulted in a redesign which utilized more wood than required by the initial scheme.
The overall result was of a sustainable por table objec t, that was designed to meet the ergonomic and theraputic comfor t of the designer. Back problems face millions of people on a daily level without any signs of relief. By creating a sustainable piece of furniture that immediately has an impac t on a person’s well being is a critical issue that is addressed by this projec t. Fur ther, the ability to personalize the design based on what the user needs is an effec tive method of mak ing the application of this produc t versatile and capable on a global level. Technologies such as CNC routers would enable a rapid produc tion process and easily enable chiroprac tors and other practicing professionals the degree of effec tive relief for patients with back problems.
