Transient Living Community
TRANSIENT PARIS, FRANCE
LIVING
COMMUNITY
Deep in the heart of a residential Parisian neighborhood lies this grouping of buildings, designed to meet the transient living needs of travelers and residents. The program is varied enough to accommodate anyone needing a place to stay for 1 day, to 1 week, to one month, to even a year. The program includes 1, 2, & 3 bedroom apartments, a hotel, and artist studios.
With height restrictions and an extremely complicated contextual environment, the design solution takes the approach of giving luxury through open plan spaces, while creating breathing room between the congestion of the dense Parisian neighborhoods through the creation of outdoor balconies. The typology of the existing buildings is of run-down, dirty and rather dingy apartment buildings with strong concealing facades. The project’s inital approach was to create a connected community, with fluxuating facades of solids, voids, and transparent elements. This departation from the existing typology creates a dynamic living experience suited for the transient clientele. The terraces and balconies provide spaces for entertainment and gathering beyond the living quaters and help create spaces suited for meeting resident’s varied needs. The connections between the communities make amenities accessible to all residents.
