FOR THE LOVE OF THE GAME
Kylie da Fonte congratulated VAFA CEO Jason Reddick and President George Voyage were on hand at Melbourne High School Old Boys last weekend to congratulate Kylie da Fonte, who’s had the honour of having the Division 1 Women’s best and fairest medal named after her. She’s one of 33 names which were announced last week (full list available on the VAFA website). For over 25 years, Da Fonte has supported the on-field stars of the VAFA, is the only female life member of MHSOB, and in 2020 received a VAFA Certificate of Merit for her services to football.
Brother-Sister Umpiring Duo
We’re fortunate enough to have several umpiring families here in the VAFAUA. Last weekend there was a pretty special family affair. VAFA Field Umpire Jordan Gibson and his sister AFLW & WAFL Field Umpire Courtney Gibson took the field together for the Premier Men’s match between Uni Blues and Caulfield. A great day out for the family!
200 Games for Premier Umpire
Congratulations to Adrian Damen on his 200th game over the weekend at Old Brighton! It’s not easy getting to 200 games but it looks like his panel helped him celebrate in style! If you’ve got a milestone, make sure you send it in to VAFA Media so it’s captured!
Snowdogs Legends push Thirds to Finals
St Bernards clear mission is to win the flag and return to Premier Division, hopefully with a rare double in the Reserves, but there’s another side in finals contention. An important part of the fabric of the club, the Thirds, have a mix of veterans that still l ove having a kick while assisting youngsters develop. The side includes four St Bernards ‘Wall of Fame’ players (from left) former VAFA St ate Captain Tom Caven, regular State Rep Josh Madden, Games Record holder George Garth and gun onballer Ryan Schroder. With 556 Senior games experience the four are keen to help their younger teammates in their finals campaign.
Masala Back in Black
The Masala Dandenong FC is hosting a ‘Back in Black’ night on Saturday 19th August at 7pm to help reduce their clubs historical debt and get their finances back into the black. The evening will feature live music and entertainment, a 2 hour drinks package, raffles and a BBQ dinner. Masala represents the VAFA in the South east corridor with their diversity and connection to Community and the VAFA encourages the broader VAFA Community to support the club.
