PLANS COME TOGETHER I remember being at the Vail Valley Foundation offices on a snowy day in late 2018, soon after we had completed a successful Xfinity Birds of Prey. On that day I saw the VVF’s culture of energy and vitality on display. Without a pause, this talented staff had emerged from the races and immediately turned to a new set of challenges and preparations with a spirit of enthusiasm that only comes from those who are inspired by a vision for the future, and who have strong belief in the importance of the mission. At the Vail Valley Foundation, we love it when plans come together. In this volume, we are proud to share with you how the plans we built together, with you, became a successful reality in 2019. Guided by community input, strong partnerships, steadfast volunteerism, and generous financial support from all of you, our VVF staff is once again at work to serve our community and raise quality of life for all. As we look back, we can say with confidence that 2019 was a year of achievement across all three branches of our mission: arts, athletics, and education. In particular, however, I’d like to make special mention of the work of our education team at YouthPower365. New strategies and structure are allowing our teachers and coordinators to thrive, helping us keep young people on the path toward

success. Additionally, the organization hosted a very successful PwrHrs Rural Afterschool Education Conference in Beaver Creek. Years in the making, the event shined a spotlight on the incredible work being done, for every child every day, by our passionate staff and educators. We look forward to the coming year, where we expect our Mountain Games project will continue to exceed all expectations and our arts and cultural offerings through the VPAC, the Ford Amphitheater, and the Vail Dance Festival will continue to be vibrant and diverse. We hope you will join us at one of our upcoming events or take part in one of our many programs. We send our heartfelt appreciation to each of you. It is your spirit of philanthropy and volunteerism that makes this community so unique.

2019 IMPACT STATEMENT Dear Friends, Welcome to the Vail Valley Foundation 2019 Annual Report. Within this volume you will find inspiring words, images, information and financials that together represent the collective achievements across our mission in arts, athletics, and education. You will also see something that we find perhaps most impressive of all: the names of thousands of individuals who have supported our work through donations, volunteerism, and sponsorship support. To all of you, we extend our deep and sincere gratitude.

Our impact In the arts our organization hosted 156 performances and community events at the Gerald R. Ford Amphitheater and the Vilar Performing Arts Center, including 12 Vail Dance Festival performances. Each of our arts venues and projects has their own intrinsic character and charm. Your support has allowed us to make our valley a world-renowned destination for dance, classical, theater, rock concerts and more. Programs like STARS, Hot Summer Nights, ShowDown Town, and Community Arts Access ensure that everyone who lives in or visits our community has an opportunity to be a part of these phenomenal events and venues.

In athletics we were proud to showcase our community on the global stage via more than 670 million media impressions and 100,000 people on-site for our two major events. The GoPro Mountain Games grow by leaps and bounds each year. We are focused on maintaining the quality of the experience of each guest, athlete, volunteer, sponsor, and supporter. The same goals hold true for our Xfinity Birds of Prey Audi FIS Ski World Cup races. Each year we host world-renowned ski champions in the only men’s FIS Ski World Cup race in America. More than one hundred million people experience our event from afar, via television, video, radio, newspaper, and internet. Investing in the youth of our valley 365 days per year through our education nonprofit, YouthPower365, yields perhaps our greatest impact of all we do, and yet the hardest to capture in a number. Tens of thousands of students have benefited from our education work over more than three decades, many of whom are now contributing to their own communities across the USA, abroad, and right here at home. The success of our youth as they move into adulthood is a direct reflection of the positive impact our hard-working staff and teachers at YouthPower365 have on our community.

We look forward to working with you all again as we head into a promising 2020. The stories we share here and throughout our Annual Report are just the tip of the iceberg. during the school year more than 7,000 students spend a core part of their day at an Eagle County public, charter, or private school. In the classroom, the lunchroom, the hallways, theaters, and gyms, many of our next generation’s most important moments take place. The quality of these moments are often determined by how much support a student has during their out-of-school time: after school lets out, in summertime, in the precious and formative pre-school years, or in the tricky transition from adolescence into young adulthood. Only about 20 percent of a young person’s ‘awake-time’ each year is spent in the structure and support provided by our schools. In 2019, YouthPower365 ensured that, during the other 80 percent of a student’s life, more than 2,000 students could count on our support in three main areas:

Our dedicated staffers work closely with local schools, teachers, volunteers, parents, individual donors, and other nonprofit organizations to ensure that, no matter what their background, a young person’s out-of-school time can be positive, uplifting, and full of the warmth and support necessary to be successful in school and in life. Magic Bus Parent Mentors

Preparing children for success in school and life starts with inspiring a love of learning. PwrUp programming ignites that passion within children and families. This includes our Magic Bus mobile preschool, which provides 3-to-5-year olds with year-round instruction that develops the skills they need to be ready for school – from practicing listening, to sharing with their friends, to counting and naming colors. Because the learning comes right to their door, at no cost, the Magic Bus breaks down barriers of transportation and economics. The results have a remarkable impact: This year, Eagle County Schools’ teachers reported that 96% of Magic Bus graduates are kindergarten-ready – the highest percentage on record in more than two decades of running the program. This historic result was further bolstered by the addition of a new RV customized classroom on wheels, creating added space for learning. Parental involvement is more predictive of a child’s success than socioeconomic status. That’s why PwrUp invites families to be our partners in their child’s academic development. Last year, staff conducted three home visits per family to review their child’s progress and provide tools for parents to reinforce, at home, what their child learned on the Magic Bus. We also hosted three parent workshops last year, with record attendance. The Parent Mentors program is another family-focused component of PwrUp. Through volunteerism, these caregivers

Parent Mentors served 31 classrooms last year with nearly 4,000 hours of bilingual instruction and mentorship. Parents also participated in 90 hours of training, and more than 75 hours of service outside the program.

Improved skills are further bolstered by PwrHrs’ impact on school attendance: Professor Nate Riggs of Colorado State University’s Prevention Research Center performed an impact evaluation for PwrHrs in 2017. It showed that PwrHrs students attended school more than their peers, an outcome that continues today. If students are in school, learning more often, their risk factor is dramatically reduced. Students look forward to their time in PwrHrs, drawn in by opportunities they might otherwise not have access to: international cooking, Nordic skiing, music production, unicycling, robotics, yoga, snowshoeing, archery, and team soccer, among others. The program provides healthy meals and transportation, making participation more accessible for working families. In the summer, PwrHrs transforms into a wide variety of summer camps, all of which help prevent the academic summer slide and provide safe, healthy environments during the school break.

The CLUB High school graduation day in Eagle County should be a time of celebration for all our families. Unfortunately, only 70 percent of local young men graduate from high school in four years – that’s 10 percent less than the graduation rate of local young women. Concerned by this achievement gap, we gathered multiple partners in the summer of 2019 to identify solutions that engage, inspire, and empower the young men of Eagle County to excel in school, at home, with their peers, and in the broader community. We met with local boys themselves, who shared their interests and needs, naming and guiding a program of their own: The CLUB (Community Lifting Up Boys). Now in its pilot year, The CLUB operates in four middle schools, reaching 20 boys in 6th and 7th grades at each site. The program spans 23 weeks and

RIPPLE EFFECT In 2019, YouthPower365 hosted the PwrHrs Rural Afterschool Education Conference at the Park Hyatt in Beaver Creek, Nov. 13-15. It was a conference unlike any before – one that we discovered a strong need and desire for among our peers in the rural afterschool education professional world. The conference allowed rural and resort educators from around the nation

the opportunity to ‘connect, collaborate, and create,’ and to build a network of afterschool professionals who face similar challenges in rural, mountain, and resort communities throughout our nation. It also allowed 40 of our own YouthPower365 students to share their perspectives and have their voices heard. For communities like Del Norte, Colorado, or Brooks, Texas, it can be difficult to find resources to provide quality afterschool care. In other areas, afterschool programs have yet to get off the ground. Through learning sessions, keynotes, and facilitated discussions, afterschool professionals in attendance were able to build

a network of colleagues who face similar challenges. It also allowed YouthPower365 to share stories of our own success here in Eagle County, and establish a leadership role for Eagle County as a center for positive change in this arena. The Vail Valley Foundation’s YouthPower365 has a decades-long track record of building relationships between public and private schools, individual donors, businesses,

granting organizations, and community organizations. Our work helps ensure that all young people in Eagle County have a place to go, after school, where they can feel safe, find mentorship, take on new challenges, take care of their health, and find the inspiration and support necessary to pursue a better life. The end result is stronger communities here, and a positive ripple effect for all.

go low, and the last spectators take their seats, a hush often falls over the Vilar Performing Arts Center. In that silent increment before a performance begins, the venue itself has a moment to shine. More than 32,720 people experienced such a moment at the VPAC in 2019, almost all of whom likely took time to admire the intricate craftsmanship of the venue’s wood trim and paneling, the comfort of the acousticallycalibrated seating, and the pin-drop precision of the sound design.

There is another side to the venue that many cannot see. It’s a time when other kinds of talent are on display: the efficient professionalism of the house crew, or the whisk-smart movements of the load-in. In the hours before a show, the professionalism of the staff creates a buzz throughout the building, a hum of activity, creating a kind of symphony all its own. The literal incarnations of ‘buzz’ and ‘hum,’ however, will not be heard in the moments before a show at the Vilar Performing Arts Center. That’s thanks to a newly-installed sound system, digitally retrofitted and as finely-tuned as a Stradivarius violin, which emits crystal-clear sound and, perhaps more impressively, no detectible buzz or hum even when the high-power system is turned on. The new system is one of many improvements at the VPAC in 2019, all part of the venue’s continued pursuit of excellence. The VPAC has long been known for the innate beauty of its European-inspired architecture and the warm comforts of its proscenium design, but it is not a venue to be satisfied with the status quo, and is constantly, and creatively, adapting to the changing landscape of the performing arts world. For evidence of this disposition, look no further than the newly-remodeled May Gallery Patron Lounge. The May Gallery now features a contemporary mountain design by Laureen Hopkins Interior Design complete with Swarovski crystal chandeliers and new luxury seating. The bar area has been revamped

and an open floorplan invites conversation and perusal of the rotating art show on display. Such an exceptional space invites intimate performance – and so it is that the “Salon Series” welcomed select artists for entirely unique, personal performances in the May Gallery beginning this year. The Salon Series will also carry the VPAC experience beyond the walls of the venue and into private homes, where the VPAC will book and host artists in the rarefied settings of patron residences. It’s one of many ways the VPAC has an impact that reaches beyond its physical structure. Take, for example, the positive impact of the STARS program (Support The Arts Reaching Students) which provides exposure to the arts for more than 8,000 local students each year. Also of note, the new 'Alcove' upper-lobby bar, which not only provides a new spot for refreshments, but also features Colorado and local businesses, giving area entrepreneurs the opportunity to expose a new audience to their crafts. These are only a handful of examples that show how the positive impact of the VPAC begins on stage and resonates outward in new and creative ways each year. It’s no wonder this beloved venue is also a vibrant center of community.

EXPRESSIO It is difficult to pinpoint a moment

when the 2019 Vail Dance Festival reached its pinnacle. In a way, the quality of the season was expressed in its very first notes, played by the highly-expressive Juilliard student jazz band that welcomed everyone on opening night from their side-stage in the Gerald R. Ford Amphitheater’s social courtyard. Those first notes were a delight, a surprise, something new and fantastic that elicited curiosity. They were ideal tones to indicate the excitement and exploration that continued, and expanded, throughout the two-week Festival. They also indicated just how much the Festival had grown in its many offerings beyond the main stage: In the mornings, Festival Forums took deep dives into the hearts and minds of choreographers, musicians, and dancers. Throughout the day, the central Manor Vail campus and rehearsal space buzzed with a million interactions, with fine-tuning, and re-visioning, paired with an energetic exchange of ideas. In the evening, breathtaking performances put exclamation points on the day’s work while Fringe Events, Master Classes, Dancing in the Streets, parties, and social events fueled a Festival that left

lasting impressions on everyone who took part. If a few notes of upbeat jazz on opening night signaled the promise of everything the Festival could become, then the night of Aug. 3 offered a masterful delivery on that promise. It was a night when the bicoastal collaboration between San Francisco’s Alonzo King, his dancers, the New York City Ballet, and jazz maestro Jason

Moran came together onstage for the world premiere of The Personal Element. Moran told The New York Times that he and King wanted, “...to dig deep together, and that’s what this allows.” It’s a quote that summarizes much about the Vail Dance Festival, where dancers, choreographers, painters, photographers – artists of all kinds – come together each year in a unique location, made possible by the unflagging support of patrons, partners, volunteers, and our community, that allows for the comfort, space, and time required to “dig deep.” Digging deep requires risk, and 2019 was most definitely a year of risks. No one knew, early in the calendar year, how the daring combinations of musicians, choreographers, and dancers would come together on stage. No one knew if the centralized Manor Vail campus and in-town rehearsal venue would illicit sparks or strengthen bonds. The joy and excitement of the Festival is partly found in such risks, followed by the comraderie that emerges when everyone involved puts their heart and soul into making such lofty visions a reality. In 2019, thanks to the unification around the Festival core vision from everyone involved, and aided by just a dash of good luck, every risk worked. Together, we created hundreds of beautiful moments, both large and small, that have left a lasting impact more profound than the sum of its parts would suggest.

written about one of architecture’s greatest tricks, or at least one of its most sought-after outcomes, which is the ability for a building to blend seamlessly with the surrounding landscape. It’s a lofty goal, one that is exceedingly difficult to accomplish, but it comes with great reward. On a bend on the river, nestled perfectly against a sloping hillside, there are very few places on earth that achieve this mission more adeptly than the iconic Gerald R. Ford Amphitheater, now heading into its 34th year of providing one of the most beautiful performing arts spaces imaginable. Inspired in its shape by the amphitheaters of antiquity, yet timeless in its modern lines, it requires a trained eye to notice that, also like Rome, the Ford Amphitheater was not built in a day. Since the venue held its opening ceremonies on June 27, 1987, the venue has undergone six major renovations and many other smaller upgrades and additions.

MANCE The evolution of the physical space has paired perfectly with the flourishing of the cultural offerings within. Since day one, the Vail Dance Festival and the Hot Summer Nights free concert series (both projects of the VVF), and the Bravo! Vail Music Festival have called the Ford Amphitheater home. Each of these events has been brightly woven into the tapestry of Vail’s summertime success, and together they draw tens of thousands of people, and contribute millions, to the Vail economy each year. Economics aside, the venue’s immeasurable impact can also be poignantly expressed in more intangible terms: as a valued gathering place for Vail’s tightly-knit community; where graduations, community events, and memorials create lasting bonds and memories each year. This year, in 2019, we hosted the Celebration of Life for the legendary Pepi Gramshammer – a day that exemplified this critical role of the Ford Amphitheater in the valley. Throughout its history, the Ford Amphitheater has hosted big-name artists from time to time, but it wasn’t until 2018 that a new partnership between the Vail Valley Foundation and AEG Presents helped make such shows a regular occurrence.

These performances meet the expressed desire – discovered in countless community surveys and stakeholder discussions – to continue to make Vail a leading destination for entertainment in the Rockies. Taken together with the entire season’s offerings of dance, classical, and community events, one can begin to see just how colorful a spectrum of performing arts the venue is capable of providing. This broad spectrum, together with the venue’s destination-worthy appeal, has led the Vail Valley Foundation to move away from the Whistle Pig Vail moniker, which once housed the VVF/AEG co-produced events. Instead, we will let the intrinsic beauty of the Ford Amphitheater, and its wide selection of summertime offerings, lead the way. Together with this new approach will come a refreshed logo and brand identity for the venue, something that borrows from the Ford Amphitheater’s rich history even as it sets us on footing for the many promising years to come.

TOWN For 23 years, ShowDown Town

in Eagle has been a place to gather, see old friends, be with family and live ‘the good life’ in the Colorado Rockies. For anyone who wants to see the spirit of the Town of Eagle come to life, ShowDown Town is the perfect place to do it. It’s also a place where up-and-coming bands can take the stage and show their stuff. Many of the valley’s now-beloved acts had some of their first gigs at ShowDown Town. It’s a place where the VVF can support not only a quality experience for everyone involved, but also help cultivate the music scene in the central Rockies. It’s one more way that we support quality of life, via the arts, throughout Eagle County. VICTORY When Tommy Ford (USA) crossed

the finish line at the Xfinity Birds of Prey Giant Slalom, it triggered an eruption from the crowd like nothing the race had seen in years. It was volcanic, almost, as it burst outward. It was a roar that echoed down the mountains into Beaver Creek Village, into the Vail Valley, out to the world, and into the permanent lore of Audi FIS Ski World Cup history. That morning Tommy Ford, 30, had won a first run of a World Cup Giant Slalom for his first time. Pressure reached its peak at the start of run two – but Ford remained calm, focused, meditative. He glided seamlessly through the course, transitioning from gate-togate with mastery, emitting zero sign that he carried the collective weight of all the nation’s bottled-up hopes and dreams on his skis. He skied without fear, he skied beautifully, and he skied his way into U.S. World Cup history, becoming the first American man to win since Ted Ligety in 2014. Ligety was not far behind Ford, in 11th, a result that helped the American men to ten impressive top-25 finishes over the weekend: Travis Ganong (6th, Super G); Ryan Cochran-Siegle (18th, Super G & 6th, Downhill & 23rd Giant Slalom); Steven Nyman (17th, Downhill & 24th, Super G); and Jared Goldberg (22nd, Downhill).

ACTION As anyone who has

experienced it can attest, life in a mountain town has a particular kind of magic. In summer, this magic takes a new form. It connects all mountain-lovers to the land around them, and to one another, no matter where they are from: Europe, Japan, South America, the Sierra Nevadas, or right here in the center of the Rocky Mountains. Each June, here in Vail, we are fortunate to become the epicenter of the mountain world. The GoPro Mountain Games have become the leading celebration of mountain sports, music, and lifestyle. Overflowing with activity, pumping with youthful energy, this event hosts athletes, onlookers, and mountain-lovers from around the globe. In its 12 years as a project of the VVF, it has become a firmly-established bucket-list item for any outdoor enthusiast and a must-attend event for everyone in the outdoor industry. In a mimicry of mountain living itself, the GoPro Mountain Games provide a nearlyoverwhelming slate of activities, gear, conversations, events, and celebrations surrounding

cycling, trail running, slackline, climbing, whitewater, yoga, fishing, concerts, and, of course, all kinds of canine comradery during its four-day span. To say the 2019 Mountain Games were a success would be an understatement. More spectators than ever before came to revel in a weekend that is free to watch, that is packed with giveaways and gear, and that includes three nights of free concerts with six burgeoning bands at the Gerald R. Ford Amphitheater. The end result is an event that has a resoundingly-positive impact across a wide range of metrics for everyone who is a part of our mountain community. Yet it was the dogs, not for the first time, that stole the show in 2019. The Dog Town venue build in Lionshead, now in its second year, was a success, drawing thousands to the DockDogs® Big Air, Extreme Vertical, Speed Retrieve, and Dueling Dogs competitions hosted there. Hundreds more competed in the Rocky Dog Trail Run, and took part in or watched the dramatic K9 Super Wall competition. Looking ahead to 2020, there are already loads of enthusiastic ideas being shaped and vetted as we whittle down to the deserving few that will help us take the next steps forward for this event. As an example, the loss of World Cup Climbing in 2020, due to the Olympic year, provides an opportunity to open up citizen and youth climbing offerings even as we continue to host a major, national climbing event. The Mountain Games will also benefit from a reinvigoration of the Golden Peak venue, which will lead to superb quality in activity throughout the event footprint: from the Gerald R. Ford Amphitheater to Golden Peak, to Vail Village and Lionshead. It’s all part of creating a quality experience for everyone who competes, attends, supports, or sponsors the GoPro Mountain Games. Our vision to be the best all-around mountain experience available anywhere in the world extends to our traditional and social media as well. Our partnerships with Outside Magazine, OutsideTV, as well as GoPro, our cornerstone partners, and all of the 140+ attending media, help expand the reach of the Mountain Games beyond the boundaries of our valley and onto the digital devices of tens of millions worldwide, showcasing our valley in the global spotlight. Just like the mountains themselves, the GoPro Mountain Games have a magic all their own. Most everyone who has witnessed Memphis jookin’ icon Lil Buck perform at the Vail Dance Festival over the years is impressed if not enamored with the dancer. This year, the Vail Valley Foundation announced that Tom Russo is the 2019 recipient of the Vail Valley Volunteer of the Year award. The award is given out each year to a deserving person who has contributed volunteer time, effort, and vision to the entire Vail Valley community. Russo was honored at 12:15 Sunday at the Xfinity Birds of Prey, before the second run of the Giant Slalom, and will be celebrated throughout the year as an excellent example of the volunteer spirit of our valley. “We are fortunate to live in a community with a phenomenal volunteer spirit, and Tom embodies that perfectly,” said Mike Imhof, President of the Vail Valley Foundation. Russo has volunteered for the Vail Valley Foundation’s Vail Dance Festival, Birds of Prey Talon Crew, the Gerald R. Ford Amphitheater, and the Vilar Performing Arts Center. Jackson Hole, Wyoming; Bend, Oregon; and the Vail Valley. As his friend had predicted, the Vail Valley was the best of them all, Russo said. “Turns out he was right, it was totally fortuitous.” Russo joins a group of distinguished members of the community who have received the award since 2000:

Vail Music Festival, the Eagle Valley Community Fund Rummage Sale, and more, for more than 16 years. “Over the years, Tom has diligently worked as a volunteer not only for the Vail Valley Foundation but also for other important organizations around the Valley, always bringing his analytical mind to every job and focusing on how to do it better,” Imhof said. “Tom gives tirelessly of his time and energy, is an invaluable extension of each nonprofit organization’s staff, and we’re so lucky he found his way to the Vail Valley in 2003 shortly after he retired,” Imhof said.

Volunteer of the Year

For Russo, he’s been fond of the Vail Valley Foundation and its mission from the get-go, he said. “The Foundation does so many great things between the cultural, the athletic and the education work; it’s something that I really like being affiliated with,” he said. After retiring from his job as a corporate attorney for DuPont and Conoco, a position that allowed him to live in Delaware and Texas, as well as in Tokyo, Moscow and Norway, Russo moved to Beaver Creek full time in January 2003. He purchased a condo in Beaver Creek back in 1989 after a serendipitous meetup in Tokyo, where he lived at the time. He’d been drinking coffee with a friend who told him the Vail Valley was the “only place to ski.” When he returned to the States for a wedding soon after, he visited

Giordano’s philanthropic outreach is matched by her volunteerism, and both have been immense. She was a lynchpin to the first decades of the Vail Dance Festival, helping it grow into an international celebration of the artform. Along the way, the Vail Dance Festival’s primary home, the Gerald R. Ford Amphitheater, benefited from her patronage and participation in every way, from support of capital improvements to underwriting of performances and, of course, to her consistent and significant support of the Hot Summer Nights free concert series. “The Gerald R. Ford Amphitheater is one of the special places on earth, and I feel strongly that everyone should be able to enjoy it,” Giordano said. “I love the free concerts and seeing everyone out there enjoying themselves in that wonderful facility.” Giordano isn’t one to simply provide support from afar. Look into the aisles for the fashionable blonde, dancing her heart out at a Ford Amphitheater concert – that’s Donna. “She is totally engaged in everything she does,” Smead said. “She takes part in it and embraces her time in our community…and she does it with impeccable style.” Indeed, Giordano’s loving personality and exceptional sense of fashion have gained her iconic status in the valley. Her joie de vivre is contagious, her wardrobe is alight with glamor and color, and her parties are part of Vail lore. She even has a specialty cocktail named after her at one of her favorite local establishments. A shining example of Giordano’s giving-with-style can be seen at Fire Station No. 2, where a sparkling red resin floor, donated by Giordano, is one of countless ways she has supported emergency services personnel throughout the years. “Donna Giordano is a treasure,” said Mark Novak, Vail Fire Chief. “She’s the embodiment of what makes this community so special.” “Not only do we have, in Donna, a truly phenomenal supporter of all that we do, but we have a great friend. She instantly lights up the day of any of our officers and emergency services personnel who encounter her,” said Dwight Henninger, Vail Police Chief. Giordano’s support for fire and police organizations in the Vail Valley has been unflagging, and yet it is only one aspect of a vast body of philanthropic work.

Citizen of the Year

She was a celebrity dancer at the 2016 Star Dancing Gala, raising funds for the Vail Valley Foundation’s YouthPower365, and she was on the Black Diamond Ball organizing committee for many years, including as co-Chair from 2012-2014 and Chair in 2015. She has also served on the Board of Directors of Bravo! Vail, and provided a wide array of support for Vail Health, the Steadman Philippon Research Institute, Roundup River Ranch, Walking Mountains, and hosting an annual “Thank You Party” for emergency services personnel. Beyond the Vail Valley, Giordano was exceptionally active and served on the Board of Directors of the Washington D.C.-area Ronald McDonald House. She served on the Board of Directors of the Blue Ridge School, and also provided significant support to Craig Hospital and the Cedars-Mount Sinai Hospital.

In addition to all this, and of particular note, is her support of the Vail Veterans Program. Born in Minnesota, where she was imbued with the classic Midwestern work ethic, Giordano can look back on a string of successful professional accomplishments – including a career in the legal field, a blossoming flower shop (which benefited from Giordano’s innate marketing skills), commercial real estate investments, and the creation of a successful chain of franchise restaurants together with her family. Donna has recently moved to Denver, but still visits Vail often, where she can be seen dancing in the aisles of the Ford Amphitheater and lifting spirits wherever she goes. She has two children, Dawn Force and Jason Giordano, and two grandchildren Sierra and Brittney. “Donna is one of the bright lights of our community and we are so fortunate to have her in our lives,” said Mike Imhof, President of the Vail Valley Foundation. “It’s not just what she has done, but who she is, and the combination of all that she is creates an impact that will resonate in all of our lives for a long time to come.” Giordano joins a venerable list of previous recipients of the award:
