Welcome
Presenters’ Circle
Dear Friends,
The Vail Valley Foundation extends its sincere gratitude to our Presenters’ Circle donors, whose exemplary generosity enables the 2011 Vail International Dance Festival to achieve an extraordinary standard of excellence.
Welcome to the 2011 Vail International Dance Festival! This year we begin with a happy and historic occasion as we proudly present the worldwide launch of New York City Ballet MOVES, the much-anticipated new touring company of dancers and musicians from the magnificent New York City Ballet. Immediately following, we welcome another NYC dance powerhouse, the Mark Morris Dance Group, heralded for their brilliant modern dance and for the genius of their founding choreographer, Mark Morris. And in the final leg of what could be called a NYC troika, we welcome back to Vail choreographer extraordinaire Christopher Wheeldon, in residence to create a new ballet for our Premieres performance. Other highlights this year include the return of the engaging Trey McIntyre Project; a new evening of Ballroom dance featuring international stars; a performance celebrating the popularity of dance on television; International Evenings showcasing a selection of the world’s most thrilling dancers; and appearances by “Lil Buck,” the Festival’s 2011 Artist-In-Residence. As always, we present the free Village Vignettes and Hot Summer Nights of Dance, along with three interactive Dancing in the Streets events, bringing dance into the community for all to take part in! Our dance education program, Celebrate the Beat, which has expanded to include year-round arts education in the Eagle County public schools, will again hold a free summer session for local children, culminating in a performance during the Festival. We thank you for your support and hope you will enjoy the 2011 Vail International Dance Festival, which once again affirms our commitment to making Vail a place where dance and all the arts uniquely flourish.
Judy & Howard Berkowitz Judy and Howard have been supporters of the Vail Valley Foundation since its inception. Their love for dance and their continuous support have enabled the Vail International Dance Festival to thrive. Judy and Howard have been instrumental in the new direction of the Festival. They are members of the Cornerstone Friends program and Judy serves as a member of the Foundation’s board of directors and chair of the dance committee. In New York, Judy serves on the board of Rockefeller University, The New York Historical Society and chairs The Center for Educational Innovation-Public Education Association. Howard is the president of The Washington Institute for Near East Policy and is former chairman of the Anti-Defamation League. He is on the Board of the SteadmanHawkins Foundation and is a former board member of the New York City Ballet. Oscar Tang Family & The Tang Fund The Vail International Dance Festival is honored once again to be among the many beneficiaries of the Tang Family’s devotion to the arts. Oscar and his wife Argie are avid supporters of many charities in New York and the Vail Valley and maintain residences in both communities. The Tang Family has supported the Vail Valley Foundation at a leadership level since its inception and Oscar has long served as a member of its Board and executive committee. Oscar and Argie are currently members of the Foundation’s Cornerstone Friends program and are also generous investors in the Foundation’s educational initiatives, with Oscar serving as chairman of the Education Committee.
