DEAR VAIL DANCE FESTIVAL FRIENDS,

THANK YOU!

It was an extraordinary summer, and we are so proud of the incredible 2022 Vail Dance Festival! You helped us create an exceptional season of dance, with great impact on our community as well as the artists who joined us this year. Thank you.

VAIL DANCE FESTIVAL COMMITTEE

Our commitment to fostering new work continued this summer as we celebrated surpassing 100 world premieres over the last 16 years. Thanks to your support, we stand firm as a preeminent leader in the creation of new repertoire each year, including 13 new works this summer across dance genres. Our new works go on to live in theaters around the world— for example Pam Tanowitz’s No Nonsense recently made its New York premiere to an enthusiastic audience at New York City Center.

We are always delighted, thanks to your generous support, to make an impact on the careers of the artists who join us. This year we are especially proud of our work with three aspiring professional dancers from Ukraine whose trajectories have been interrupted by the war in their country. Their experience in Vail was artistically nourishing, as the Vail Dance Festival community opened its arms and hearts to these young artists. We are pleased to share that one of the young dancers was scouted during the Festival and has been offered a place at the Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis school of American Ballet Theatre in New York City.

Sheika Gramshammer

We are grateful to all of our staff and artistic team who bring the dancing to life on our stages and in our community each year. A key element of our team which speaks to the future is our Intern and Ambassador Programs, which this year engaged a record number of ambitious students and young professionals from around the country who worked collaboratively in key areas from marketing to production. Their contributions resonate throughout the Festival.

Within these pages, you will see how your support created a positive impact on the Vail Dance Festival community, from audiences to artists and all who make the Festival happen. We are truly grateful for your support in nurturing this vibrant Festival. The Festival would simply not be possible without your generosity. Thank you! Sincerely,

INTERN & AMBASSADOR PROGRAM ENGAGING THE NEXT GENERATION OF ARTS LEADERS The Vail Dance Festival is committed to helping nurture the career development of our future generations of artists, leaders and professionals. We’ve established a robust program for ambitious middle school, high school, college, and post grad students to join the Festival team and gain valuable experience while supporting a variety of key areas from administration to marketing to production. Thirty interns and ambassadors joined us in 2022.

AMBASSADOR PROGRAM A unique hands-on opportunity for 8th-12th graders. Ambassadors receive both community service and educational experience. The Ambassador Program is underwritten by Barbara Scrivens, LIV Sotheby’s International Realty.

INTERN PROGRAM Interns support a variety of areas of artist hospitality, media/ marketing & communications, education/outreach, venue/ rehearsal management, food/beverage and development. Thirteen talented young professionals and graduate and undergraduate students from across the country joined the Festival team for over two weeks gaining extraordinary experience in arts production and management.

Interns Honored: Longtime Vail Valley Foundation employee, Arte Davies, was integral in the success and growth of the Vail Dance Festival from 1994-2015. Arte spent much of his time working with Festival interns and training them in his philosophy and hospitality practices. After Arte’s passing, the Spirit of Arte Davies Award was established and is bestowed annually on one outstanding intern. This summer, all 14 interns in the class of 2022 exemplified Arte’s spirit, so all were honored with this prestigious award.
