Introduction and Mission
Welcome to Valencia College located in Orlando, Florida. Orlando is an internationally known travel destination, making Valencia a popular place of study for students from around the world. The area’s biggest attraction is its year-round mild weather with an average annual temperature of 72.4F / 22.4C degrees.
Home to Walt Disney World®, Orlando hosts millions of visitors per year. While Disney® is a premier draw for many visitors, Orlando also features other world-famous attractions including SeaWorld® and Universal Studios®. With hundreds of places to stay and sightsee, including amusement parks, museums, cruises, tours, fun houses and botanical gardens, Orlando is an exciting place to be.
Our mission is to provide international students with the highest quality English language programs to meet their personal, academic, and professional goals while creating an environment that fosters crosscultural understanding and appreciation. Our main campus is the Sand Lake Center located near the Florida Mall and the famous International Drive. Instructors and Methodology
All instructors are college graduates with language teaching experience. They are a group of dedicated educators who maintain their teaching skills by participating in regular professional development workshops. Using a variety of creative teaching techniques, they adapt classroom activities for all learning styles. In order to provide a complete immersion experience, instruction is given only in English with a focus on conversation. Instructors encourage active learning through the use of dialogues, modeling, pictures, gestures, paraphrasing and repetition. There are nine language levels, and the curriculum at each level is organized around real-life themes and situations. Practice is given in all four language learning skills: listening, speaking, reading and writing. The goal is for students to improve their fluency, pronunciation, grammatical accuracy and sentence structure in every theme. American culture is also an important part of the language program so students gain a greater ability to understand and appreciate native speakers.

Oral Evaluation Instructions
Please follow the instructions below to complete the automated telephone oral evaluation:
1. Call 407-582-6720. If the line is busy, call 407-582-6721 or 407-582-6722. 2. Listen to the welcome message and instructions. 3. Hit 1 for the English language evaluation. 4. You will hear a series of 15 recorded questions. Answer each question in a complete sentence after the beep. For example:
Q – What is your complete name? (beep) A – My name is Maria Montes.
5. Please note that questions are not repeated. For best results, students must complete the evaluation without assistance.
6. After you answer a question, hit # to continue to the next question. If you do not understand the question or you do not know how to answer, hit #. 7. Note that questions become progressively more difficult, so you may hang up at any time to complete the evaluation. 8. Obtain your results after 3 business days by phone at 407-582-6688.
All students must complete an oral evaluation before the start of any language course.

Open Enrollment Programs
English as a Second Language (ESL) (Levels 1 to 9) In this dynamic and interactive program, students will be placed in one of our nine language levels. The curriculum contains practical, conversational English that students can use in their everyday life. Practice will be given in all four skills: speaking, listening, reading and writing. The class meets four hours per week for eight weeks. The cost of the course does not include books. Fee:

English Pronunciation (Intermediate & Advanced) These courses are designed for students at the Low Intermediate level and above. The curriculum includes practice for individuals who are proficient in English but who want to improve their overall pronunciation to be better understood by native speakers. The instructor will work closely with students to address all aspects of speech: vowels, consonants, stress, rhythm and intonation. The class meets two hours per week for eight weeks. The cost of the course does not include books. Fee:

Test Preparation
LOEP Test Preparation Course

The Levels of English Proficiency (LOEP) test is a placement test used by schools in the United States, including Valencia College, as an aid to determine the course placement of incoming college students. It is required for students who are non-native English speakers. Students who are planning to transfer to Valencia College are required to take the LOEP test. To register, students must be orally evaluated at the Mid Advanced level or above. This 32-hour LOEP Test Preparation course is designed to help participants develop strategies and skills necessary to score higher on the LOEP test. Additionally, students gain valuable test-taking and critical thinking skills necessary for successful performance at the college level. The cost of the course includes course materials. The TOEFL® test measures a speaker’s ability to communicate in English at English-speaking colleges and universities. If a student would like to attend a college or university other than Valencia where English is the primary language, he or she will most likely be required to take the TOEFL test. To find out how to register for the test in Orlando, Florida, go to www.ets.org. To register, students must be orally evaluated at the Mid Advanced level or above. Valencia offers a series of two 32-hour TOEFL Test Preparation courses (A and B), designed to help participants develop strategies and skills necessary to score higher on the TOEFL® Internet-based (iBT) integrated skills test. The cost of the course does not include books.

Intensive English Program (IEP)
New Student Orientation All new students will need to attend the mandatory orientation session from 1 p.m - 2 p.m. on the first day of class. During the orientation students will receive important program information. F-1 students will need to bring all of their immigration paperwork and proof of health insurance. Program Activities Cultural and social activities are offered monthly to give students the chance to experience American history, culture and people. They also provide students with additional practice speaking English outside the classroom. A calendar of local events and monthly activities is posted on our IEP bulletin board in the student lounge. Many of the activities are free; however, some may require a fee. Valencia Student IDs One of the major benefits of enrolling in the IEP for at least ten weeks, is that students receive a Valencia College student identification card which provides them with college-wide access to computer labs and the library. It also provides access to student discounts at stores and locations throughout Orlando. Cyber Language Lab Included in the IEP tuition is the opportunity to study English in a computer lab where students can practice speaking, listening, reading and writing skills with the assistance of an English instructor. The lessons accommodate beginner and advanced levels and students can work at their own pace. The instructor provides students with individualized lessons and assists with homework studies. Intermediate/Advanced ESL Workshop Also included in the program tuition are our ESL Workshops for intermediate and advanced language levels. In these workshops, students benefit from the opportunity to practice their English outside of the classroom in an instructor-led format. F-1 Visa Information & Fees
F-1 Student Visa Information We issue I-20s for F-1 student visas for ten weeks or more. You can request an F-1 Application Packet from the Client Service Center or download it from our website.

Please note the following: 1. Anyone on a B tourist visa (or other visa category) can attend these courses. 2. A passport and visa are required for most international students entering the U.S. 3. After submitting an application packet to the Client Service Center and receiving your I-20, you must request an appointment to apply for an F-1 Student Visa at the U.S. Embassy or Consulate in your home country before your departure. 4. Make sure you have an embassy appointment at least 60 days before your arrival date into the U.S. (Visa processing can take several weeks.) 5. After making the appointment, receiving your I-20 from Valencia, and paying the SEVIS fee, prepare for the appointment by gathering the rest of the required documentation. 6. Purchase your Student Injury and Sickness Insurance Plan at www.insuranceforstudents.com (click on Intensive English). The insurance coverage must be purchased for a minimum of 6 months. No other insurance will be accepted. 7. Consult your local U.S. Embassy or Consulate for all visa regulations. Steps to Register 1. Review the program information. 2. Complete the oral evaluation. 3. F-1 Students Only: Complete the F-1 Student Application Packet and submit to the Client Service Center. 4. Register and pay for the course/s. 5. Purchase books. 6. Obtain a free parking pass from Sand Lake Center Security (required at all campuses except the Sand Lake Center). 7. IEP Only: Attend the mandatory New Student Orientation. NOTE: Students must be 16 years or older to apply. Students under 18 must have parental permission to register.

Course Materials Please note that books must be purchased before the start of classes and are not included in the tuition. They are available for sale at Barnes & Noble bookstore, which is located near the Sand Lake Center at 8358 S. Orange Blossom Trail, Orlando, FL 32809. All of the information you need in order to buy books will be provided to you in your Registration Confirmation form, including course title, book titles and store location. Please take this confirmation with you when you go to the bookstore so you know what books to buy.

Cancellation/Refund Policy
English as a Second Language (ESL) Full refunds are given when a class is canceled by the college. Course fees will be fully refunded if the request is received at least five business days prior to course start date. Intensive English Program If you cancel more than 5 business days prior to the start date, you will be eligible for a full refund of your prepaid tuition. There are NO refunds after class starts unless there is a family or national emergency. In that case, a prorated refund on tuition will apply. If your visa is denied, this refund policy still applies. Third-Party Registrations To obtain a refund if tuition was paid by a business/organization, a vendor profile and a W-9 must be on file. Call 407-582-6628 to request these forms. Course fees for online courses are nonrefundable.
