STERLING ACADEME BROCHURE 2014/2015 Supplementary teaching and learning for boys and girls aged 5-16


Sterling Education offers a range of high quality supplementary teaching and learning support services to children in the 5-16 age range. We prepare students for SATs, Entrance an Scholarship exams as well as for GCSE subjects. Teaching takes place in a well resourced centre in South East London and we are easily accessible by road, rail and bus.

Many of our students attend Sterling Education, from the Bromley, Lewisham and Greenwich boroughs; we do however cater for all students from all areas of London and the South East. OUR ETHOS We believe in giving every child the chance to be the best they can be whatever their talent or background. At Sterling we apply strong moral values to everything we do to help our pupils grow morally, culturally and spiritually through : Regular praise and encouragement. Developing our pupils sense of curiosity, perserverance, questioning and indepedence of learning. The application of positive rewards and fairly applied sanctions where applicable. Promotion of a caring and supportive attitude to ensure a mutual respect for everyone. Listening to pupils and involving them in some aspects of decision making.


THE CURRICULUM We offer an academic programme which follows the national curriculum and prepares students for SATs, public school entrance/scholarship exams as well as GCSE subjects. The table below indicates the curriculum offered during the 2009-10 academic year.

Forms 3-7 : Age range 7-12 National Curriculum subjects studied including : English Mathematics, Science and RS Forms 8-9 : Age range 12-14 National Curriculum subjects including English, Mathematics, Science, RS and Modern Language Forms 10-11 : Age range 14+ GCSE Preparation English, Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry, Physics Entrance/Scholarship : All Ages Please enquire


TEACHING AND LEARNING METHODS At Sterling Education we fully appreciate that children learn in many different ways and so we aim to teach using many different styles. Our teachers make use a carefully selected range of teaching styles and pupil organisation depending on the learning objectives of the lesson. ICT is a key and regular feature of our lessons and this is to ensure that our pupils develop as life long learners. Our teaching and learning methods encourage pupils to have a growing awareness of their own learning through self questioning and evaluation of their understanding. Personalised learning is central to our teaching  and learning framework and we tailor our delivery of the curriculum to meet the individual needs of our pupils. In this respect all pupils are assigned a personal teacher with overall responsibility for overseeing their academic performance. In providing teaching and learning services, we place great emphasis on assessment for learning, teaching and learning strategies, a broad and rich curriculum, organisation of learning and strong partnerships with parents ,carers, and guardians.

SUPPORT FROM PARENTS, CARERS & GUARDIANS At Sterling Education we work in close partnership with parents, guardians and carers of our pupils. Our strategy includes : Effective communication between Sterling Education and the home. Regular newsletters keep parents, guardians or carers informed of developments and events at the supplementary school.

Working with parents at home to support their children's learning at home by monitoring homework on a regular basis. Providing advice and guidance sessions and progress review meetings with parents.

We offer attractive and competitive fee rates which cover tuition, teaching and learning materials and refreshments. In addition we offer discounts in certain circumstances .
