VBAT RULES

HEAD REFEREE WORD IS FINAL.

THE SERVE 1. Server must serve from behind the restraining line (end line) until after contact with the ball. Ball may be served underhand or overhand. Ball must be clearly visible to opponents before serve. Served ball may graze the net and drop to the other side for point. First game serve is determined by a volley, each subsequent game shall be served by the previous game loser. No attacking/spiking a serve. SCORING A. Rally scoring will be used. B. There will be a point scored on every serve of the ball. C. Offense will score on a defense miss or out of bounds hit. D. Defense will score on an offensive miss, out of bounds hit, or serve into the net. E. Game will be played to 21 pts or until 12 minutes, whichever one comes first. Must win by 2 points. ROTATION 1. Team will rotate each time they win the serve. 2. Players shall rotate in a clockwise manner (front row to the right, back row to the left). There shall be at must 6 players on each side. At least 2 girls per team of ten and at least one girl on the court out of every three players (two girls for a team of 6). PLAYING THE GAME (VOLLEY) 1. A maximum of three hits per side on each volley. 2. Player may not hit the ball twice in succession. (A block is not considered a hit.) 3. Ball may be played off the net during a volley and on serve. 4. A ball touching a boundary line is good. 5. A legal hit is contact with the ball by a player body which does not allow the ball to visibly come to a rest. 6. If two or more players contact the ball simultaneously, it is considered one play and the players involved may not participate in the next play. 7. A player must not block or attack a serve. 8. Switching positions will be allowed after every serve. 9. SHOW SPORTSMANSHIP. When giving the ball to the other team for their serve, roll the ball beneath the net to prevent any confusion. Failure to do so may result in losing a point. BASIC VIOLATIONS 1. Stepping over the line on a serve. 2. Failure to serve the ball over the net successfully. 3. Hitting the ball illegally (Carrying, Palming, Throwing, etc.). 4. Touches of the net with any part of the body while the ball is in play. If the ball is driven into the net with such force that it causes the net to contact an opposing player, no foul will be called, and the ball shall continue to be in play. 5. Reaching over the net, except under these conditions: a. When executing a follow-through. (Hitting the ball pass the net, but the player can’t touch the net.) b. When blocking a ball, which is in the opponents’ court and is being returned. YOU MAY NOT BLOCK A SET. c. Reaches under the net that it interferes with the ball or an opposing player. d. Failure to serve in the correct order. If the ball touches the ceiling, or any of the light fixtures, and returns to the same side of the team that hit it, then the ball is still playable as long as the team has hits remaining. If a team hits the ball and it hits the ceiling or any of the light fixtures and goes over the net, the point will be awarded to the opposing team. Knockout Round After 12 minutes, if a team does not win by 2 or is tied, the game will be considered a tie. At the end of 12 minutes, if a team is still playing a tie-breaking point, the team continues playing and finishes the point.
