Annual Giving Report

ear VCS Community, We are thrilled to share all of the exciting things God has done this year at Valley Christian Schools through your generous support. Together, you contributed over $3.5 million dollars to the mission of VCS, including nearly $2.4 million to the WARRIOR FUND. The commitment of our board and executive team is to use those donations to maintain a Quest for Excellence in all of our programs, provide the support needed to our front-line educators, and continue to create WARRIORS: tomorrow’s leaders properly equipped to serve God and family while positively impacting their community and the world. In the 2017-18 school year: • VCES students swept the top four spots in the ACSI Math Olympics • 454 junior high students achieved a GPA of 3.5 or higher • VCHS class of 2018 received nearly $5,000,000 in college scholarships • VCS students completed of community service

• 175 students went on mission trips around the world

As you can see, your investment in VCS is making a difference, not just in the lives of our students, but in our community, nation, and the world. One of the many ways we partner with the VCS community is through our development events. Our 4th Annual Quest Ball Dinner and Auction saw a packed house during our first year at a new venue—the Fairmont Hotel. When the last bid had been placed, VCS had raised over $1,000,000! Thank you to our co-chairs, Jen LaBarbera and Cheryl Brashears, and all of the committees for working tirelessly to make this such a great success. Another event made possible by the incredible support of volunteers was the 24th Annual Golf Classic, where VCS supporters, staff, and alumni came together to compete in VCS’ longest standing fundraising event at Silver Creek Country Club. This year, Billy Jowers, Mike Lien, Joe Macchiarella, and Brad Dickay took home the top prize in our Championship Flight, while our Dean of Students and head football coach Mike Machado’s team defended their title and won the Classic Flight. In the following pages, you find the names of those who made gifts to VCS during the 2017-18 school year. We pray that the number of those who partner with us through tax-deductible giving, volunteering, or attendance at our events continues to grow in the coming year. Thank you for believing and investing in the mission of VCS. Extending the Gift together, Eddie Moore, Mike LaBarbera, and the Development team

paid down our total debt to below $38 million. Our new low-fixed interest loan is allowing VCS to follow a schedule for a complete payoff by 2032 or sooner.

• During the past three years, VCS has increased our teacher salary schedule by 25 percent. While VCS is now on par with local public school districts, we continue to strive to match and exceed the compensation found in other West Catholic League schools.

• We expect to redirect our $3.8 million per year for debt service payments toward increased teacher and staff compensation when we make our final principal and interest payment.

• Our teachers received an unexpected Christmas bonus as the result of a $500,000 gift given by one of our donors. • VCS matching for retirement contributions will increase from 4 to 6 percent this year for all full-time employees. • Historically, VCS’ total debt peaked at $61.5 million, but by the end of our 60th anniversary year in 2020, VCS will have

• VCS just completed the cash purchase of 3.5 acres of adjacent land along Diamond Heights Drive on the north side of our campus for the development of teacher housing. • In response to many of our supporters who are interested in including VCS in their estate planning to help ensure Valley Christian Schools’ legacy for future generations, we are working on a formal legacy giving program that will be unveiled in the coming months.
