It’s Coming! Popular Grocery Anchor Plans a 2024 Opening in North Phoenix
BY KAREN GOVEIA editor@valleyvibenews.comSprouts Farmer’s Market confirmed it is taking over the space formerly occupied by Bed Bath & Beyond located in Tramonto Marketplace near I-17 & Carefree Highway.
The grocery chain has long been requested by residents in the far North Phoenix and greater Anthem area over the past decade. Bed Bath & Beyond announced its closing in late 2022, and it didn’t take long for Sprouts to swoop in.
“We are excited to spread goodness in the Phoenix community,” Sprouts Public Relations Specialist Ashley Lang told Valley Vibe in an email. Lang said the store is targeting an opening date in the second quarter of 2024.
The lease agreement has already been executed, said Larry Brown, vice president of Diversified Partners Commercial Real Estate brokerage.
“We’ve been working on this for three years. We’re excited to make that deal, it’s a great piece of property and a positive addition for the community,” Brown told Valley Vibe in a phone interview.
The addition of Sprouts fills the last of the remaining vacancies in the plaza, with Brown calling it “the whip cream on ice cream.”
The 28,000-square-foot shell fits the Sprouts footprint of its stores, which average between 25,000–30,000 square feet.
Interior demolition is already underway and should be complete by the beginning of April, according to a spokesperson from A.R. Mays Construction.
At the time of this writing, A.R. Mays had not been awarded the construction build out contract, however the construction firm has been responsible for building about two dozen other sprouts locations, including the one along Carefree Highway in Cave Creek.
“We’ve been working on this for three years. We’re excited to make that deal, it’s a great piece of property and a positive addition for the community.”

Sports Arena & Hotel Owner Faces Foreclosure Again
BY KAREN GOVEIA editor@valleyvibenews.comThe future of the half-complete sports arena and hotel near Sonoran Desert Drive and I-17 is uncertain as the project once again is facing foreclosure.
A Trustee’s Sale notice was recorded with Maricopa County on March 10, with a public auction scheduled to take place at noon on June 13 at the Superior Court building in Phoenix.
Unless owner Rob Eaton is able to secure funding or find an investor by the impending deadline, it will be sold to the highest bidder—in which case there will be no guarantee the arena will ever come to fruition.
“I’m hopeful that we can save it and that it doesn’t turn into apartments,” Eaton told Valley Vibe in a phone interview.
His dream for a bustling indoor sports complex on 20 acres to help meet the space needs of local youth sports organizations began in 2019 when construction first
started. That all changed in April 2020 when work on the project came to a sudden halt during the pandemic. About 10 months of construction took place, and since then Eaton has had difficulty securing additional funding to start the project back up again.
In 2021, the project almost went the way of foreclosure, but Eaton was able to secure a $10-million bridge loan to
pay his subcontractors and the remaining proceeds were used on the installation of windows and exterior stucco, and painting of the hotel.
Since then, no additional work has taken place on either the arena or the hotel until additional needed funding is secured. Eaton continues to work on a financial solution to get both the hotel and arena to completion.
