“It’s that time of the year when people start thinking about home improvements and remodeling,” says Tony Sementi, owner of Tile by Tony. And, if this spring is anything like last year, weather should be ideal for an early start to major projects. Tony Sementi first opened his business in 1982. Initially, Sementi focused

solely on tile work. But over the years, he gradually expanded the scope of his business to offer a full line of construction services. “It was a natural progression,” he says. It made sense to take on an entire kitchen remodel, rather than just the counters and backsplash. While the name has stayed, Sementi wants everyone to know that (continued on page 22)

ASK THE MONEY MAVEN STRAIGHT-FORWARD, NO-NONSENSE TALK ABOUT YOUR MONEY
HOW TO GET RICH THE OLD FASHIONED WAY BY MELANIE HASTY-GRANT
This idea that somehow you can get rich quick without much skill, effort, or time and without taking any risk is just plain bunk! I have witnessed some pretty creative “crazy thinking” by some seemingly smart folks. Here are a few of the most common “get rich quick” ideas I hear from people. I’ll win the lottery/at the casino! I see scores of folks buying lottery tickets that don’t have the money to pay their bills. I hear of friends and clients with big winnings at the casino who give it all back the next week. The reality is that the odds are very, very low that you will win the lottery. The casino is a MONEY MAKING OPERATION. They are large and luxurious because they are in the business of making money for the house. Their house! In the meantime, you may be spending money you don’t have on this crazy pie-in-the-sky win instead of focusing on reducing your debt and paying your bills. I’ll just sue somebody! This is one get-rich-quick idea that really bugs me. Not only is it trying to become rich without having to work for it but it is also at the expense of someone else. This is not to mention the pain, stress, and energy of such an endeavor that could be channeled into a much more positive direction of learning a skill and making efforts to personally improve you. (Now don’t start hating on me. I am well aware that there are times that it is appropriate and necessary to take legal action. That is not what I am

talking about here.) I’ll do a work from home business that promises overnight success! Internet and network marketing scams abound. These game plans usually make claims that you will be rich within a few months. Often you are told that getting others signed up under you for the program will further your cause without you having to work for it. I hate to say that in the last 27 years, we have gotten bitten by this snake a couple of times ourselves. Watch out for things that sound too good to be true. They probably are. (Once again, don’t start hating. There are some really great network marketing companies out there. It is possible to be successful doing them but you can’t omit the work part.) I’ll inherit it! When I have prospective clients come in to do their financial and retirement planning and their primary strategy for having enough money to retire is based on waiting for someone else to die (usually their parents), it is
I’ll invest in Penny Stocks/IPO’s/Obscure Investments and make millions! At least once a month, I have someone call about a penny stock they want to buy, an IPO they want to get ahead of, or some other obscure “Iraqi Dinar currency” or other strange investment idea. Most of the time the caller is looking to put in very little capital and take large risk in the hope that they will make millions overnight. This is not an investment strategy; this is more like the casino strategy that I spoke about earlier. In the end there is no substitute for hard work, controlling your spending, saving early and regularly, and making good investment decisions. These are personal choices over which we all have control. Remember that wealth preservation is more important than just accumulation so choose your advisor and your investments wisely. LLooking Forward, Giving Back Melanie Hasty-Grant and Ken Grant of Waterstone Private Wealth Management Celebrate 15 years of service in the financial industry.
By Duane Blankenship
Melanie Hasty Grant and Ken Grant are the owners of Waterstone Private Wealth Management in Owasso. “Milestones – anniversaries, birthdays and New Year’s – give us reason to reflect upon our past plus look ahead with hope and opportunity,” says Melanie. “We’ve been honored to serve clients and our community for 15 years and
are blessed by how they have touched our lives.” The couple feels humbled and privileged by the incredible clients that made the choice to work with Waterstone. Markets over the past two decades have been a wild ride, accentuating the need for expert advice. “While no one can predict the future,” said Melanie, “the next 15

years will likely present similar challenges.” Clients rely upon Melanie’s and Ken’s trained authority in the financial field. They have been contributors and guests on multiple national media outlets including CNBC’s PowerLunch, Fox Business, Reuters, The Wall Street Journal and Market Watch Radio. Locally, they have frequently been interviewed by Tulsa World, Fox 23 and Good Day Tulsa. Melanie writes the Money Maven column for Value News and was an LPL Chairman’s Club Award Winner in 2013, an honor bestowed to the top 10 percent of advisors nationwide. She was recognized in the Wall Street Journal as a Top Oklahoma Business Woman by the National Republican Committee and was invited to attend The Barron’s Top Women Advisors Conference. “The client relationships we build are more than financial numbers and charts,” said Melanie. “We witness clients’ life goals, dreams and hopes for their future. I am in awe of our clients’ courage and perseverance to create extraordinary lives.” Melanie
and Ken believe they are here to serve others. Twenty-seven years ago, while dating at Southern Methodist University, they established goals to help others. “Those dreams have come true,” said Melanie, “and that’s why we’re driven to involvement in our community and to help out wherever we can.” Melanie has served the following: Owasso Education Foundation, Mental Health Association of Tulsa, Owasso Community Resources (then Network Owasso), Owasso Community Center, Rotary, Owasso Character Council, and the Arts and Humanities Council. Melanie’s financial career began in 1999 as an advisor at Edward Jones. One year later she was running her office and was volunteer regional trainer for new advisors. “I loved helping them learn the business and understand the importance of helping others,” she said. Melanie founded Waterstone Private Wealth Management in January of 2003. Ken joined Waterstone in 2004 and oversees investment research and analysis, strategic asset management and trading. “Melissa Bowlin
joined us last year. She has 10 years experience in the financial industry and is an answered prayer to our organization,” said Melanie. Ken has served the following: Owasso Chamber chairman, Owasso YMCA chairman, Tulsa Metro YMCA board member; and Future Owasso Rams football coach. Both Melanie and Ken are members of the Owasso Quarterback Club, and Ken played football at SMU and OSU. Melanie and Ken will be honored at the “Boots and Bowties” event in May, when they will celebrate 15 years of service with clients, family, friends and neighbors. Call Waterstone Private Wealth Management to receive a formal invitation to the event; space is limited. Securities and Advisory Services offered through LPL Financial, Member FINRA/SIPC.

AA Family Tradition Second-generation family members take over the helm of Black Hat Cleaning Services & Roofing. By Duane Blankenship
Black Hat Cleaning Services & Roofing has served the Tulsa area for the past 37 years. The chimney sweeping
business was established by David E. Harris and his wife, Terri, while David E. worked full time at a local conven-
ience store. They both worked Saturdays establishing their new business. David E. and Terri –
Black Hat Cleaning Services & Roofing’s second-generation family owners and operators include Mike, Patience and David CR.
who was pregnant with their daughter, Patience, at the time – went door to door with flyers trying to launch the business. It took four months to actually land their first chimney sweeping job. After that, the company quickly began growing and David was soon able to devote full time to the new business. It later expanded to include the cleaning of air ducts and heating units and clothes dryer ducts. In March of last year the company again expanded operations with the addition of the Black Hat Roofing Division. Today, Black Hat serves Tulsa and surrounding communities with chimney cleaning and repair, air duct cleaning, dryer vent cleaning and repair, and roofing services. David E. retired from the family-owned and operated business in January of this year. His children, David CR and Patience, have literally grown up at their dad’s business. Both have been in management positions with the company for years, and Patience’s husband, Mike Boles, joined the company last year when it launched its Roofing Division. Mike has over 25 years of experience in the roofing industry. The new family management team explains that they were always on rooftops doing chimney cleaning work, and it just made sense for them to expand services into roofing. So many of the water leaks they see are directly related to
a combination of problems caused by faulty or aging chimneys and roofs. “We had a good first year with our roofing operation,” said Mike. “We’re excited about expanding the roofing part of our business in 2014.” “We know the family business,” said Patience. “David and I were home schooled and spent a lot of time growing up in and around the business. We’ve been in the mix most of our lives.” David CR actually started doing some of the vent cleaning work with his dad when he was only 12. “At 15,” he said, “I was training my dad’s employees in the summer, before I had to start back to school in the fall.” Patience said she started picking up on the company’s operations and helping out in the office when she was about 10. Today, David CR heads the cleaning portion of the company, and Patience manages the office operations. When you attend the 2014 Greater Home & Garden Show at Expo Square March 6-9, be sure to visit Black Hat Cleaning & Roofing Services at booth #1447 and ask about setting up a visit for a free estimate.

BBe a Superhero for a Day The CAN Superhero Challenge is an obstacle course event for all ages benefitting the Child Abuse Network.
By Sheryl Sowell
Child abuse is a painful subject that people don’t like to talk about, or even think about; but it is something that happens every day and needs to be brought to the community’s awareness. The Child Abuse Network (CAN) is a nonprofit organization that provides a variety of services to victims of abuse, at no cost to the families. Last year, CAN served 2,499 children, which is approximately 200 a month. To raise funds for its important contributions to children and families across the metro area, CAN is hosting the first ever CAN
Superhero Challenge on Sunday, March 30, 2014 at the POSTOAK Lodge & Retreat. “You can be a superhero to a child by participating in this wonderful event we’re so excited about,” says Brandi Moore, community relations manager of CAN. “This will be a family-friendly afternoon of fun and fitness where everyone is encouraged to dress like their favorite superhero.” The CAN Superhero Challenge will feature two obstacle events. The Superhero Challenge is for
Chris and Elizabeth Ellison, co-chairs of the CAN Superhero Challenge, and their son, Taylor (a.k.a. Super T), in front of the Teddy Bear Room at CAN.
participants 13 and older and features a 1.8 mile trail run and obstacle course. The Sidekick Challenge, recommended for children 12 and younger, is a half-mile run and obstacle course. Chris and Elizabeth Ellison and Hank and Molly Pellegrini, co-chairs of the event, created the idea with the design help of 918 CrossFit. “Kids are going to love the Sidekick Challenge, which includes jumping through tires, balancing on a beam, belly crawling under picnic tables, and the very best part at the end – a 68 foot inflatable bounce house obstacle,” says Chris. “Parents are able to watch their children complete the course, and there will be lots of photo opportunities. The POSTOAK Lodge is a beautiful setting.” After the Sidekick Challenge is the Superhero Challenge for ages 13+. “This obstacle challenge is more elaborate and includes crawling in a sand pit, tossing items through tires and trail running. If someone is unable to complete a particular obstacle, he is given a ‘punishment’ to do instead, such as walking lunges,” explains Chris. “This

event can be as challenging as you want to make it.” After the challenges, superheroes will have a super time listening to music provided by DJ Connections, jumping and playing in the bounce houses, getting their faces painted, and munching on snacks provided by QuikTrip. In keeping with the childfocused theme, CAN is holding a school challenge, awarding $500 to the school with the most participation in either challenge. To acknowledge your school for the prize money, please enter your school on the online or paper registration form. CAN exists to reduce the trauma that a child abuse investigation can pose for the child. Before the program came into being 25 years ago, children frequently endured stressful examinations and numerous interviews by various agencies, often in cold, sterile facilities. Today CAN delivers a highly effective alternative, bringing multiple agencies together in a single, safe and comforting environment. CAN enables medical, mental health, investigative and legal professionals to work together under one roof to provide less traumatic investigation and to determine if child abuse has occurred. The center houses professionals from the Tulsa Police Department, DHS, the District Attorney’s Office, and OU-Tulsa's School of Community Medicine. According to Kate Davis, development director for
Page 7
CAN, “Everyone works side by side to advocate for these children in crisis. Our goal is to determine the answers to two questions – is the child safe, and has a crime been committed that deserves prosecution? For an abused child, adjusting to life after abuse is difficult, and CAN is here to help make children feel safe and comfortable as they begin the healing process.” Support this valuable organization and have a wonderful afternoon with the family by signing up for the Superhero Challenge. The event will be held at the beautiful POSTOAK Lodge & Retreat, located 15 minutes from downtown Tulsa at 5323 W. 31st St. N., on Sunday, March 30. The Sidekick Challenge begins at 2 p.m., and the Superhero Challenge is at 2:30. Early registration is highly encouraged. All participants who register before March 13 will receive a T-shirt, and online registration closes March 26. Cost is $25 for the Superhero Challenge and $15 for the Sidekick Challenge. Day-of registration includes a $5 price increase. And don’t forget to dress like a superhero! If you suspect a child is being abused or neglected, call the Oklahoma Hotline: (800) 522-3511. IIs Your Home Lacking Curb Appeal? Consider replacing a flaking driveway and help restore property value.
By Duane Blankenship
Nothing destroys a home’s curb appeal faster than a deteriorating driveway that has become an eyesore of pitting and flaking concrete due to salting methods employed each winter. Our concrete driveways and sidewalks surrender to the precipitating corrosive effects while decreasing the value of
our properties. It makes good sense to protect the value of your home by replacing the driveway when it has blatantly reached “the end of the trail.” Kalan Paul and LCI Concrete specialize in driveway replacement. LCI has served the greater Tulsa area for nearly 10 years and
takes pride in ensuring total customer satisfaction. “There are several cautions to be aware of before committing to having a driveway replaced,” said Kalan. Here’s the advice he shared. 1. Make sure any individual or company you’re considering has general liability and workman’s
Kalan Paul of LCI specializes in the replacement of driveways and other flatwork that have begun to show signs of deterioration.
comprehensive insurance. If an accident should occur in the process of doing the job, you’ll want the assurance that you will not be held liable for any resulting expenses. 2. Never consider doing business with an individual or company that has not been in business for at least one year. Many homeowners are still duped each year by individuals claiming to be in the home improvement business. Projects are often abandoned prior to completion or the quality of the work done is of unacceptable quality and standards. 3. Insist that any representative with whom you are requesting a quote provides proof that they are a member in good standing with the Better Business Bureau. Call the BBB and check the records to see if complaints have ever been filed. 4. For concrete work, any contractor should mention the word “rebar” without your having to ask about it. Steel reinforcement rebar is critical when pouring concrete. “If rebar is not part of the fabrication,” says Kalan, “it can reduce the life of the finished product by 10
to 20 years.” 5. Ask for references for projects similar to yours. Visit the site and check the quality of the work. If possible, talk with previous customers. 6. Ask how long it will take to complete your project. Kalan says the average job should take two to three days. If you are given an estimate that exceeds two days to three, ask why it would take that long. A project estimate from LCI is always free and includes the project’s total cost, the materials that will be used and how long it will take to complete the job. “Pouring a new or replacement driveway isn’t cheap,” says Kalan, “but when done expertly with quality materials, your drive should have a life expectancy of 30 to 40+ years.”

SAY NO TO BACK SURGERY “After having an MRI, I was diagnosed with having a herniated disc. The pain was like a knife jabbing in my buttock and down my legs. My whole life changed, not being able to escape the disabling pain. After cortisone epidurals in my spine, the pain returned. My doctor told me that I was facing surgery on my back and to prepare to spend thousands of dollars and be off work for several months. Then I found Dr. Day and heard about the success he was having treating disc problems by using a new procedure called Non-Surgical Spinal Decompression. Dr. Day was one of the first doctors in the area to use this new treatment and has had over 30 years experience treating bad backs.

So I decided to try it! On a scale of 1-10 my pain was an 8 when I started but after only a few weeks of treatment my pain level dropped to a 0-1. I am now able to get up in the morning and get dressed by myself, put my shoes on without holding on to something (which I haven’t been able to do in a very long time). Needless to say, I am very happy with my treatment and am so glad I said no to back surgery.

A Healthy Green Lawn This Summer Starts Today SoonerLawn provides a six-step lawn care program that begins in early spring.
By Deanna Rebro
A thick, lush, head-turning landscape this summer begins with a phone call today to SoonerLawn. So much of caring for a lawn comes down to knowing what needs to be done and when to do it. For the past 10 years,
SoonerLawn has been delivering a six-step lawn care program from early spring through fall that gets rid of weeds and nourishes grass so it will look good year-round. Owner and U.S. Army Captain Michael Bolton says
that early spring is the best time to begin preparing your lawn. SoonerLawn’s six-step program begins with an application of pre-emergent herbicide for crabgrass control, continues with additional weed control and

fertilizers during spring and summer, and ends with a winterization weed control in the fall. While many homeowners treat their own lawns and obtain so-so results, the SoonerLawn professionals take things to the next level by treating lawns with the right formulations for that particular grass at the right times throughout the year for optimum results, applying lime to regulate proper soil ph to allow maximum effectiveness of fertilizers, and monitoring for insects and diseases. One of the hallmarks of SoonerLawn is quick results. “We don’t have to tell our customers their lawns are getting better. They can see improvement each time we’re there,” says Michael. One customer, president and landscaping chairman of The Reserve at Battle Creek said, “The Reserve looks better that it has ever looked in the past, thanks to the Sooner crew. They are very professional and take great pride in their work. I would highly recommend them to anyone looking for a lawn care company.” Michael adds that SoonerLawn’s prices are below most, if not all, other local lawn care companies. And their prompt and professional customer service goes above and beyond expectations. “We keep our
customers happy by offering great service at a great price with great results. Just give us a chance to prove it,” he says. A five-year customer echoes his comment. “We have found Michael’s work to be very good, as well as his pricing. We would highly recommend his services.” SoonerLawn serves residential and commercial customers throughout Tulsa, Broken Arrow, Bixby, Jenks, Sand Springs, Owasso and Claremore. Optional services include fertilization of flower beds, aeration for more effective watering and nourishment, perimeter control, insect control of fleas, ticks, ants, spiders and chinch bugs, mole control, turf disease control and fescue seeding. They are fully licensed and insured, and all their recommended work is guaranteed. SoonerLawn is also accredited with the Better Business Bureau. Preparation now will go a long way toward enjoying the healthy green lawn you want this summer. And you don’t have to lift a finger except to call Sooner Lawn.

Red Hot Designs offers bridal and formal gowns for every personality and budget.
By Sheryl Sowell
Every girl dreams of being the “belle of the ball” and to wear a gorgeous gown that makes her feel absolutely radiant. Unless you’re a celebrity who regularly walks the red carpet, such opportunities are rare and come along only once or twice in a girl’s life. That’s why her prom and wedding day are so special – she gets to live the fantasy and be the princess for an unforgettable, once-ina-lifetime night. Brides and high school seniors can turn these dreams into reality with the help of Red Hot Designs, a unique store that makes the experience of dress shopping fun and stress-free. Owner Brenda Bryant opened her shop on the corner of 10th and Main in Collinsville two years ago after being encouraged by friends and family that it was her calling. Brenda finds deep satisfaction in helping ladies find the perfect gown for their special occasion. “I began drawing designs and sewing at 8 years old and have had a love for fashion ever since. My goal is to help girls find their dream dress,” says Brenda. “I don’t pressure anyone to buy anything they don’t need or want, and there
is never a time limit. I pay attention to their facial expressions and body language when they are trying something on. The right dress creates emotion, and if they don’t feel that ‘aha’ moment, it’s time to try something else. There is a perfect dress for every girl out there.” Brenda runs Red Hot Designs with the help of her daughter Jamie and her daughter-in-law, Nichole. Her store stands apart from others because of the incredible selection and laidback, cheerful atmosphere. These ladies have a blast every day, smiling, laughing and making everyone feel at ease. “Shopping for your prom or wedding dress should be a fun, exciting part of the process – not upsetting or stressful. We always have a wonderful time with our customers,” adds Brenda. Red Hot Designs carries dresses for every budget and individual taste, ranging in size from 00 to 30. You’ll find a huge array of options to flatter your body shape and reflect your personality, whether you want elegant and understated or larger than life and glitzy. You’ll
find designer brands such as Jasz Coutoure, Joli, Precious Formals, Splash, Da Vinci, Coco Anais and many more. “For prom, sequins, sparkles, gems and vibrant colors are big right now. We always record every dress purchased for each prom, and we will not sell the same dress to another girl going to that particular prom," says Brenda. “For brides, ivory is a universally flattering color. Popular trends this year include lace, keyhole backs, and over-theshoulder designs.” Strapless is another lovely and classic choice; but many avoid the style because they don’t want to be tugging and adjusting their dress all night. “If your dress fits properly, this will not happen. Our wonderful seamstress meets customers at the store to create the perfect fit.” In addition to prom and wedding dresses, Red Hot Designs offers bridesmaid and mother of the bride dresses, tuxedo rentals, and a variety of accessories including custom sashes and veils by Bridal Couture Girls and feather pieces by Sei Bella. If you’re planning your wedding or prom, you owe it to yourself to visit Red Hot
Brenda Bryant, owner of Red Hot Designs.
Designs for a shopping experience like no other. “This is not a job for me, it is my passion. I love helping a young lady feel like the most beautiful girl at her prom, and hearing about a groom who tears up at the sight of his stunning bride walking down the aisle. It is so gratifying,” says Brenda. Red Hot Designs is a member of the Tulsa Wedding Society. Store hours are Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., and
new shipments arrive frequently. No appointments are necessary – simply stop on in and be dazzled!

Check out Oklahoma’s largest selection of Victorian Heart Quilts and a lot more at Homeward Bound in downtown Claremore.
By Cassie Woods
Perhaps one of downtown Claremore’s best-kept secrets is ready to make itself known. Homeward Bound is the largest seller of Victorian Heart Quilts in Oklahoma and the only vendor in the Tulsa metro area. Victorian Heart quilts are hand-stitched and 100 percent cotton. Anyone looking for high-end bedding, Jute rugs and tableware should visit their website or store to view all of the unique options available. Owners Martin and Nancy James pride themselves in specializing in highend products and recently expanded the range they carry in the store. “We opened our online store in 1999, but in 2007 decided it was time to have a physical location as well,” said Martin. “Then last year we expanded the selection of the higher-end products we carry here at the store as the Victorian Heart product line, including quilts, Jute rugs and tableware, grew in popularity. It works out great because it allows the customer to browse all the options in the comfort and convenience of their own
home, but also allows them to come in and touch, feel and see the colors, fabrics and quality workmanship in person.” “And for those customers who don’t wish to come in person, we do of course invite them to buy online and ship items to their home,” added Nancy. Customers can expect to pay around $120 to $200 for a Victorian Heart queen size quilt, but Homeward Bound will match any online price a customer can provide them. In addition to the great selection of Victorian Heart Quilts, the 5,000-square-foot store features all kinds of new home décor including Jute Rugs, Quilted and Jute tableware, wall hangings, framed prints, window treatments and Colonial Candles, as well as high-quality used furniture and decorative items. Space is available to rent for anyone who wishes to start a storefront of general home décor items, or new or refurbished furniture. Martin, who is originally from England, moved to Los Angeles in 1990. He and
Nancy came to Claremore from California in 2006 because they were looking for a better place to raise their children. Claremore ended up being a perfect choice for both family and business reasons. Both Martin and Nancy say that their favorite thing about owning a business in downtown Claremore is seeing the resurgence of Claremore’s Main Street over the years. “In addition to Homeward Bound, there are so many great stores here,” said Martin. “They weren’t here six years ago when we opened our doors, and it’s been very neat to see and be a part of the growth.” “We encourage everyone to come see us,” said Nancy. “Downtown Claremore has really become a destination, so we also encourage them to come spend a day browsing all of the other great shops and boutiques, and specialty restaurants like the Belvidere Mansion and the Pink House. This really is a fun street with all kinds of unique stuff.” As an added incentive to
Homeward Bound owners Martin and Nancy James and their dog Jesse invite you to check out the great selection of highquality Victorian Heart quilts, tabletops, linens and rugs at both their online store and their storefront in downtown Claremore.
visit the store, any time Nancy is there, she brings along the store mascot, a King Charles Spaniel mix named Jesse. Jesse is affectionately featured in the painted store name on the front of the building and loves to greet guests who browse the store. Homeward Bound is open six days a week for the convenience of its customers. Hours are Monday through Saturday from 10:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. For information on items available in the store or

called “An Evening with Kristin Chenoweth” on March 13 at 7:30 p.m. Returning home to the theatre that bears her name, Chenoweth will teach and assist young stars as they perform in front of a live audience at the Broken Arrow Performing Arts Center (BAPAC). She is scheduled to perform a few songs herself. Tickets start at $20 and are available now. As part of an all-day celebration, Chenoweth, a 1986 graduate of Broken Arrow High School (BAHS), will also be the keynote speaker during the ribbon cutting ceremony for the newly-renovated façade of BAHS. The ceremony is scheduled for 1 p.m. and is free and open to the public. “What Kristin wants to do for our town, her alma mater and the BAPAC is nothing short of amazing,” said Mark Frie, BAPAC executive director and president of the BAPAC Foundation. “She has such a passion for helping students pursue their love of the arts,
www.ValueNews.com while at the same time wanting to get surrounding communities involved.” Recently partnering with the Broken Arrow Performing Arts Center Foundation, Chenoweth has refocused her philanthropy efforts to support fine arts and community relations in Broken Arrow, establishing the Kristin Chenoweth Fund for Arts and Education. Chenoweth has already begun planning endeavors for the next few years. Her first venture for the Kristin Chenoweth Fund for Arts and Education is to help raise money for Broken Arrow Public Schools students who are receiving the opportunity of a lifetime. More than 200 fine arts students will travel to New York City to share their talents with the world at the legendary Carnegie Hall on April 20. All proceeds from the master class will benefit the Carnegie Hall Experience, as well as the Kristin Chenoweth Fund for Arts and Education. Tickets are available at the BAPAC box office at 701 S. Main St., online at brokenarrowpac.com or by phone at 918-259-5778. “We in Broken Arrow have always gone above and beyond to show the importance of fine arts in education, and this golden moment will showcase how
dedicated our students are to their craft,” Frie said. When invited to perform at Carnegie, most public school productions are blended with other public schools. Such is not the case with Broken Arrow, as this will be the first Oklahoma high school to get a standalone date at Carnegie – ever. Along with attending “An Evening with Kristin Chenoweth,” members of the community are also being asked to lend their support to help these students reach their New York destination. “The ‘Keys to the City’ campaign gives patrons the option to donate increments of money, no matter how big or small, to assist our students in getting to New York,” Frie said. “Every little bit will help give our students a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to showcase their talents at Carnegie Hall.” Patrons can visit the website or the BAPAC Facebook page at facebook.com/brokenarrowpac for updates and more.

TTermites Are on Their Pest Behavior Mother Nature’s offers a comprehensive package for termite elimination and more.
By Duane Blankenship
When spring rolls around each year and you’re thinking termites, the first company that probably comes to mind is Mother Nature’s Pest Control. Founded 37 years ago, Mother Nature’s is the state’s leading Sentricon termite installation and monitoring company. But did you know that Mother Nature’s does much more than exterminate termites? Spokesperson Shelia Disler outlined the company’s four departments, each possessing skilled technicians who are trained specialists in their respective fields. The first group is the company’s Sentricon/Termite Department. “About three years ago, Sentricon introduced a new HD Always-Baited Formulation that is probably the greatest improvement ever in the fight against termites,” said Shelia. “With the new system, customers get two-and-a-half times the punch they previously had with the original Sentricon system.” The foundation of the system is the rosin-based cellulose bait. Termites are attracted to it and carry it back to underground colonies, where it is regurgitated and eaten by other members of the colony, eventually eliminating the colony’s population, including the queen. The system is eco-friendly and ensures peace of mind to homeowners as it wipes out termites. Mother Nature's also provides mold and fungus treatments, as well as moisture barriers to guard against excessive moisture and stop wood rot. The second specialty department
is Pest Control. You may not realize that Mother Nature’s not only does termite colony elimination, but they also provide services for any indoor and outdoor pest that comes calling. If you’re ever “bugged” by crickets, bedbugs, ants, mosquitoes, spiders, fleas and ticks, Japanese beetles and other chewing insects, contact Mother Nature’s for a free assessment and estimate to treat and eliminate the problem. They even have a team specializing in nuisance wildlife trapping and removal. Mother Nature’s also has a Lawn Care Department. Department Manager Tom Sevitts says the department’s basic service is to feed desirable grasses and control weeds. “We also have a new Tree & Shrub Service this year,” said Tom. The lawn technician applies fungicides and provides feedings in the spring and fall. Four times per year they provide applications for insect and disease control. The Lawn Care department cares for lawns and ornamental trees and shrubs up to 20 feet in height. They also offer effective mole and gopher control services plus aeration and grub control. Another area of experts is their Insulation Department. “Our insulating material provides energy savings by keeping your home warmer in winter and cooler in summer,” Mother Nature’s spokesperson Shelia Disler says, “We’ve been family owned and operated for 37 years said Shelia. “Additionally, it kills all and are number one in Oklahoma for installing and monitoring Sentricon termite elimination systems.” insects that come in contact with it. Celtic Woman Returns to Tulsa of Emmy®-nominated music producer David Downes. The Emerald Tour will spotlight the angelic voices and inspiring music that have won Celtic Woman the devotion of a worldwide audience. “Creating the new show allowed me the opportunity to revisit and reimagine some of our most popular Irish songs, as well as writing some exciting new material for the show,” said Downes. “With all-new performances of these great songs, Emerald has created a whole new experience for both our longstanding fans, and for those who have just discovered our music. This is a Celtic Woman experience that will soothe the soul and have you dancing in the
aisles!” Celtic Woman is a unique ensemble that showcases the talent and charisma of four gifted young Irish women, whose performances combine Irish traditional music with contemporary pop standards and memorable original compositions. Emerald Tour features songs from the “Emerald: Musical Gems” CD/DVD, including

Tile by Tony specializes in remodeling bathrooms and kitchens, as well as creating customized spaces such as closets, media areas or offices. When Tile by Tony takes on a project, they do so in a “turn-key” fashion. Most people want to avoid hiring multiple contractors for a project, and Sementi understands this. Hiring one company to complete a project means costs are more manageable, communication is better, and fewer people are working in your home or office. “You’ve got to know these people are going to be friendly and safe,” says Sementi. His workers are careful to treat your home or office with the respect they expect at their own place. They will show up on day one with a dump trailer and make sure all waste materials leave with them. Additionally, they cover the floors in the work space, protecting your home and ensuring no dirt gets tracked in while they work. If needed, they will tent-off a work space, to make sure contaminants do not spread throughout the building. They even

HHome and Garden Farm and Ranch Show The annual event will be held March 21-23, 2014 at Claremore Expo Center.
By Christopher Davis
Claremore is preparing for their biggest annual showcase of all things home and garden. The Rogers County Home and Garden Farm and Ranch Show, presented by the Rogers County Builders Association, will take place at the Claremore Expo Center,
400 Veterans Parkway, March 21 through 23. Every spring since 1998, the non-profit Rogers County Builders Association partners with businesses to present the weekend-long event that features exhibitors and vendors, live demonstrations,
Ann Baker and Laurel DeLammermore of RCBA.
seminars, food and more. Attendees spend the weekend enjoying an up-close look at the latest in farm equipment, learning new techniques to update homes and landscape, and discovering new products and businesses. This year promises another successful event, according to organizers. “We have developed an excellent team – the best team so far – to produce this show,” says Brett Knapp, RCBA president and general manager of the event. “We expect to have over 100 exhibitors,” says Laurel DeLammermore, the event’s assistant general manager. Attendees will see booths from a variety of businesses and organizations which provide resources, equipment and services related to farming, landscaping and home construction. The Master Gardner Association of Rogers County will also conduct a question and answer session. Many exhibitors from across Oklahoma and the Midwest will display their wares, share
their knowledge and connect with the public throughout the weekend including wineries, storm shelter dealers and more. There will also be live cooking on stage, including demonstrations by Bill Biard (owner/chef of Hammett House) and Brad Johnson (executive chef for Hal Smith Restaurant Group). Informative seminars will take place during the event. Mack Greever, attorney, will present on real estate law. John Haase (horticulturist educator at OSU Extension Office in Rogers County) will present on several topics throughout the weekend. There will plenty to do and see at the event beyond the exhibitors’ booths and demonstrations. Look for a display of antique trailers. A kids’ area will feature inflatables, a slide and other activities. Freddy’s Famous Corndogs, Andolini’s Pizzeria and The Bone Pile are a few of the vendors selling food at the event this year. Spectrum Paint is the Gold Sponsor for the 2014
Rogers County Home and Garden Farm and Ranch Show. Brown Sod Farm, Stillwater Milling Company and Marble Elegance, Inc. are Silver Sponsors for this year. The weekend-long event opens Friday at noon. The first evening, booths and activities close at 8 p.m. The event runs Saturday 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Sunday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission for adults is $5; children 12 years old and younger are free. Organizers are excited about the growing list of vendors, and anticipate their largest event to date. Still, there is always room for more. Businesses or organizations interested in exhibiting should contact Ann Baker, director of sales, at (918) 520-9748 or sales@rogerscountyhomeandgardenshow.com. For more information, contact

GGodspell Spotlight Children’s Theatre will perform the big off-Broadway and Broadway hit March 6-9 and 13-16, 2014. By Sheryl Sowell

Performances will be at 7:30 p.m. on March 6, 7, 13 and 14, and at 2 p.m. on March 8, 9, 15 and 16. “Godspell” is one of the biggest off-Broadway and Broadway successes of all time. Based on the Gospel According to St. Matthew, and featuring a sparkling score by Stephen Schwartz, “Godspell” boasts a string of well-loved songs, led by the
www.ValueNews.com international hit, “Day By Day.” As the cast performs “Prepare Ye The Way Of The Lord,” “Learn Your Lessons Well,” “All For The Best,” “All Good Gifts,” “Turn Back, O Man” and “By My Side,” the parables of Jesus Christ come humanly and heartening to life. Drawing from various theatrical traditions, such as pantomime, charades, and vaudeville, the show offers
several musical styles. “‘Godspell’ is a groundbreaking and unique reflection on the life of Jesus, with a message of kindness, tolerance and love,” says Terry Grufik, director of the production. The all-student ensemble cast of 18 includes students ages 12 to 17 from Tulsa, Broken Arrow, Sapulpa and Mounds. Terry and Kathy Grufik serve as the directors of the musical and have created a contemporary version to make it more relevant to the youth of today. Tickets are $10 for adults, $9 for seniors and $8 for children (12 and under). For more information or ticket reservations, contact the Spotlight Theater. Reservations are highly recommended as shows tend to fill quickly. The next children’s production will be “Lilly’s Purple Plastic Purse” in June. Children are encouraged to attend the auditions April 7 and 8.
