The process is designed to straighten teeth differently, allowing for a fast, safe and affordable solution.” Results are experienced, usually with less sensitivity, in about a year. It may feel like warm weather will never return, but spring is on its way – time for tank tops, shorts and swimsuits. Eek! If the thought of showing some skin after this long, cold winter sends chills down your spine, don’t fret!
Now is the time to prepare. As we all know, a healthy diet and regular exercise is the key to feeling great and looking slim and trim. But some of us need a little more than that. It’s called stubborn fat for a reason; no matter
how healthy you eat and how much you exercise, it can be virtually impossible to lose those persistent muffin tops, love handles and belly pooches. You’re left with two options: learn to live with it or have surgery, right?

ASK THE MONEY MAVEN STRAIGHT-FORWARD, NO-NONSENSE TALK ABOUT YOUR MONEY
INFIDELITY: LOVE, SEX, & MONEY BY MELANIE HASTY-GRANT
Having been a therapist for many years, one of the most devastating issues when working with couples is infidelity. There are many forms of infidelity. Let’s review three of them. Most often what comes to mind is a sexual affair. A sexual affair is when a person engages in sexual activity with someone other than their spouse. This could be anything from sexual intercourse, to kissing, to making out. Also included in this category are online affairs through chat rooms, dating and pornography sites. A lesser known type of affair is what is called an emotional affair. Emotional infidelity is defined when one partner goes outside the primary relationship to get his or her emotional needs met — and it is more common and more damaging than you might imagine. If you are talking about problems that are happening in your marriage or with your spouse with someone else of the opposite sex, if you find yourself taking extra time getting ready in the morning to impress a certain coworker, if you are texting excessively with someone who isn’t
your partner, if you are hiding emails from your spouse, you may already be having an emotional affair. Finally, there is Financial Infidelity. Financial Infidelity is the secretive act of spending money, possessing credit and credit cards, holding secret accounts or stashes of money, borrowing money, or otherwise incurring debt unknown to one’s spouse. MSN Money reported on a study in 2008 that showed 50% of respondents had committed some form of financial infidelity. At least two or three times a year, I have new prospective clients come in to visit with me that are struggling with financial infidelity. It most often finally comes to roost because of the accumulated debt and creditor issues. The following are some signs of financial infidelity and ways to go about uncovering dishonest financial behavior. Review Documents. Review tax returns, bank account statements, credit card statements, and investment statements regularly. Look at the inflows, outflows, and where the money goes. When
money has been hidden, the biggest sign is a real disconnect between income reported and the money available to pay the bills. Look for transfers between accounts that you were not aware of. If you see this, try to get info on why the money was transferred to another account and where this account is. Changes in behavior. Watch for changes in your spouse’s behavior. You know what you consider normal behavior in your spouse. If they start acting differently, it may be cause for suspicion. Excessive secrecy, changes in money flow, unexplained gaps between income and expenditures all could be cause for concern. Changes to accounts. If addresses are changed and statements go to another address, that is a red flag. Bank accounts in a family member’s name should raise questions. Bank statements showing regular wire transfers or checks to a random person should also be a concern. Review all signed legal agreements. Read and review all tax returns. Make sure you
understand everything that you have signed in the past and are signing. In order to prevent financial infidelity, both partners need to be involved in the finances. The way people get taken advantage of, no matter what the relationship, is when they turn a blind eye. You need to be able to trust your spouse while at the same time

By Christopher Davis
Valentine’s Day is almost here, and with it, an opportunity to shop for some sparkle for someone special. Moody’s Jewelry, located at 2013 Kenosha Ave. in Broken Arrow, has gifts for
everyone and every budget, starting at $20. Thomas Stoltzner manages Moody’s in Broken Arrow. Since the store opened in 2005, he and his team have earned a reputation for the sort of
attentive customer service that leads to return customers. It is common to see customers greet him by his first name as they walk through the entrance. Stoltzner smiles and inquires

about the grandchildren, or if a sister is feeling better. Purchasing jewelry is a personal experience. A lot of thought and love is invested in the selection of a diamond. The Moody’s family has been doing business in the Tulsa area for 70 years. Stoltzner has been with Moody’s since 2001. His staff includes sales associates Peggy Shield, Peggy Hillhouse, Michael Patuto and office manager Karen Taylor. Together, they count over 88 years of experience in the jewelry business. This experience and local connection provides the foundation for building lasting relationships with loyal customers. Regardless of budget, Moody’s in Broken Arrow invites customers to find the perfect piece for the occasion. As they have since 1944, customers can rely on Moody’s to have a broad selection of jewelry this Valentine’s Day. Throughout the store, diamond heart shaped jewelry will be on display, as will exclusive Moody’s collections. “Dancing Diamonds is a new line. It has diamonds that are
perfectly balanced,” says Stoltzner. “They shimmer back and forth.” The line was popular during the holiday season, and he expects many customers will find them perfect for Valentine’s Day. Moody’s also has the exclusive Angelica Diamond Collection. “This collection has the most sparkle of any other,” says Stoltzner. The diamond is available in cushion, princess and round cuts and in any mounting. If desired, the studs can be used in earrings. Moody’s also has the largest selection of watches in the area. The store carries the latest from brands like Tissot, Luminox, Fossil, Seiko, and Bulova. Give someone special a reason to keep the smart phone put away. Financing is available. Customers may apply for a Moody’s credit card on their website. For more information, contact

Broken Arrow Performing Arts Center will be packed with explosive dance and aerial stunts as “Bring It On: The Musical” presents its Oklahoma debut and an evening sprinkled with sass on February 18 at 7:30 p.m. Tickets range from $20 to $60. Inspired by the 2000 film “Bring It On,” this new Broadway smash will take the audience on a high-flying journey through friendship, forgiveness and determination. It tells the story of the challenges and unexpected bonds formed through the thrill and high stakes of competitive high school cheerleading. “What I would love the audience to come away with is that, whether you’re a 15year-old cheerleader or a 51year-old woman or an 87-yearold grandfather, you just saw yourself on stage, and that you have renewed excitement about what you do,” Broadway lyricist Amanda Green said. Uniting some of the freshest and funniest creative minds on Broadway, “Bring It On: The Musical” earned Tony® nominations for Best Musical and Best Choreography, and “The New York Times” called it "impossible to resist!" Arrow Performing Arts Center’s fifth anniversary is “Memphis” on April 22. From the underground dance clubs of 1950s Memphis, Tenn., “Memphis” is a winner of four 2010 Tony Awards including Best Musical. It bursts off the stage with explosive dancing, irresistible songs and a thrilling tale of fame and forbidden love. Inspired by actual events, “Memphis” is about a radio DJ who wants to change the world and a club singer who is ready for her big break. Both shows are suitable for ages 13 and up. Tickets are available at the BAPAC box office located at 701 S. THINGS YOU SHOULD KNOW Happy 2 0th Anniversa ry to BEFORE YOU BUY YOUR Precision Optical! Feb. 1, 20 14 NEXT PAIR OF EYE GLASSES Do you have a strong prescription? Are you walking around with an unfilled prescription in your pocket? Did you know it is best to get it filled ASAP? Do you realize that strong RX’s DEMAND greater precision with optical center, Bi-focal and MRP placement? Have you had problems with the vision and fit you may have received at shops that herd you through like cattle? Are you hard to fit? Large or small hat size with eyes set close over the nasal area combined with the lower ear syndrome means you need an experienced optician to fit you and keep your eyewear maintained.
Are you tired of feeling baited by unrealistic prices? Only to find out that the eyewear is stripped-down S.V. versions that are cheap, unattractive, fit improperly, scratch and break easily. Many won’t hold adjustments and just don’t have the features you need.
Have you tried conventional surfaced no-line progressives in the past and failed to adapt? Technological advances in “DIGITAL” lens manufacturing have radically improved the optics, fields of vision and dramatically reduced distortion so that almost anyone can wear them. Check out the Seiko Perfas Prestige II on the first two YouTube videos at the bottom of our homepage. These lenses could be extremely helpful to contact lens wearers, those who wear readers over contacts, and those who cannot or will not rely on corrective surgery for their visual correction needs.
Did you know that Precision Optical has been operating since 1994? Located at the northwest corner of 81st and Elm Place in Broken Arrow, we are one of the VERY FEW optical shops that can do emergency gold soldering of your broken eyeglass frames. We can also replace worn and scratched lenses in your fine sunglasses with gray or brown polarized lenses.
You should get your eyes examined every 1-2 years and more often if medical conditions warrant. The eye exam is a two-fold procedure. 1.) Medical health 2.) Corrective refraction. Many are pleasantly surprised to find they see much better after the exam and new lenses, when originally they had felt they had not changed much. Call us today to set up an eye exam!

AA Concrete Solution Camps Construction pours and beautifies concrete driveways, patios and retaining walls.
By Duane Blankenship
Camps Construction specializes in the design, fabrication and installation of concrete for the home. They can work their magic on new or existing concrete surfaces, interiors or exteriors. They create
designs in concrete floors, prep concrete for surface restoration, protect and enhance concrete, and apply stains and sealers. According to Gerardo Campos, owner of Camps
Construction, “We specialize in concrete work. We have a long list of satisfied customers and get a lot of our jobs from referrals.” Concrete is environmentally friendly; it is composed

of renewable resources and can even be recycled into granular fill or concrete aggregate. Concrete also brightens up the area around your home or business at night. Other benefits to concrete include its durability, longevity, and the extremely low maintenance required to keep it clean and looking great If your driveway or patio is beginning to pit or flake, now is a good time to consider greatly improving your home’s curb appeal by having them torn out and replaced. Camps Construction also installs man-made concrete stone retaining walls, often replacing old railroad ties that have long since lost their beauty and function due to deterioration. Concrete stone walls are a great way to create a “get-back-to-nature” look around any home, patio or yard. Stones come in a nice range of shapes, colors and textures and do a great job enhancing your home’s natural surroundings. They can be used as retaining and freestanding wall systems that are durable even in the face of Oklahoma’s constantly changing weather. Gerardo and his team have an inexpensive way to beautify concrete floors without the expense of genuine ceramic or marble tiles. Camps Construction will create a faux finish in the concrete, inside the home or on the patio, sidewalk or drive.

Colors and designs are extensive and provide beautiful floors for years to come. Camps Construction offers in a variety of construction work including landscaping, retaining walls, concrete driveways, outdoor kitchens, patios and decks. Gerardo has been doing business in Tulsa and surrounding areas for ten years and is known for his integrity, workmanship and budget performance. He insists on attention to customer satisfaction. “I want customers to know that they can count on my work to be done the right way, within budget, and that we both will be proud of the finished product,” he said. “I do everything possible to meet the expectations of my customers.” Estimates on all projects are free, and Gerardo says he uses only the finest construction materials and services on every job. After you’ve selected Gerardo and Camps Construction to do your project, Gerardo says he will always be on the job site. “I’m sure you’ll be happy working with me as I complete your project,” said Gerardo. “Give me a call for a free quote.” For more information, contact

OOutdoor Sporting Expo Mark your calendars for the big event at Claremore Expo Center February 28 through March 2.
By Cassie Woods
Lovers of all things outdoors are gearing up for the second annual Outdoor Sporting Expo to be held February 28 through March 2 at the Claremore Expo Center. Organizers expect this show to be of interest to enthusiasts of all ages and outdoor genres. “We are excited to see this show return to Claremore,” says Ron Burrows, Claremore Expo Center manager. “The Outdoor Sporting Expo is
really geared to Oklahomans who enjoy the many great outdoor activities and recreation opportunities that our region provides.” The Outdoor Sporting Expo will feature over 90,000 square feet of indoor exhibitor space. Exhibitors may apply now by contacting Claremore Main Street or Claremore Chamber of Commerce, or by visiting www.outdoorsportingexpo.com
Committee members (front row, L to R): Cary Jester, Sarah Sharp, Emily Mahan, Nikki Scalf, (back row) Cindy Bissett, Dell Davis, Brian Callender, Bryan Bradley, Ron Burrows and Brandon Irby.
. Exhibitors will have the option of booth or bulk space starting at $150. Spots will be open on a first-come, firstserve basis until full. “Our goal is to provide exhibitors and sponsors with very affordable space so that they can showcase their products and services,” said Burrows. “Attendees will see a variety of products and services that deal with anything outdoors.” “We are looking for any type of home-based, outdoor exhibitors,” said Cindy Bissett, Claremore Main Street director. “So far these include taxidermy, tying jigs and lures, duck calls, servicerelated guides, lodges, dog training and more. We even have an exhibitor from Canada coming in who chose this show over the Kansas City show.” The show will also include exhibitors of RVs and four-wheelers, rods and reels and a golf simulator. Additionally, the Corps of Engineers and GRDA will be on hand to talk about parks, boat safety and ecosystems. “We are also bringing back the archery competition,” said Davis. “Last year there was a huge line and it was a big hit, so this year we will have
www.ValueNews.com divisions for both adults and children.” Committee members have confirmed some great celebrities and seminars for the show. “We are excited that three of our celebrities are confirmed for demonstrations, shows and seminars,” said Bissett. “They include professional bass fisherman Tommy Biffle, world-renowned hunter Roger Raglin and famous alligator wrestler Jimmy Riffle.” Jimmy Riffle is from the popular Animal Planet series “Gator Boys.” He and his Road Show Crew will perform full gator shows, complete with alligators brought all the way from Florida, on Saturday and Sunday and meet with fans. “We got so many compliments on Jimmy last year that we knew we had to bring him back,” said Bissett. “People were lined up to meet him and get his autograph. He is one of the nicest celebrities we’ve ever worked with, and he is great with the kids.” Roger Raglin, known as America’s favorite white-tail deer hunter, is a hunting icon. He has traveled the world, produced over 70 full-length hunting videos, holds numerous world records, and has been inducted into the National Outdoor Hall of Fame. He also hosts “Roger Raglin’s Outdoors” exclusively on the Outdoor Channel. This will be Raglin’s first time to do a show in Oklahoma. Tommy Biffle, a wellknown professional bass fisherman, will serve as the
show’s featured angler. Biffle has fished the pro-circuit and B.A.S.S. series for over 26 years, is a member of the B.A.S.S. Millionaires and has his own signature bait called “The Biffle Bug.” He also owns Lakeside Polaris in Wagoner. “A new group, Green Country Fly Fishers out of Bartlesville, will be on hand for demonstration and fly tying," said Davis. “The show will also feature special giveaways, door prizes, The Bass Tank and more.” This year’s Outdoor Sporting Expo is presented by Claremore Main Street, Claremore Chamber of Commerce and Claremore Expo Center. Show sponsors include GRDA, TTCU, Visit Claremore, Tulsa RV, Suburban Chevrolet and LCA Rising Stars. The Outdoor Sporting Expo will be open Friday, February 28, from noon to 8 p.m., Saturday, March 1, from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Sunday, March 2, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tickets are $10 per adult, $5 per child and senior, and free for kids 10 and under. Saturday morning, the first 100 kids will receive a free tackle pack from Rising Stars. Sunday is half price family day and all tickets will be discounted 50 percent. For more information, contact

Industry Veteran Sheri Miksa Named President and CEO of Mazzio’s LLC The Italian fast casual restaurant chain hires new executive leadership. By Sheryl Sowell
Tulsa-based Mazzio’s LLC, owner and operator of the Mazzio’s Italian Eatery and Oliveto Italian Bistro brands, has named Sheri Miksa, an industry veteran with over 25 years in the restaurant, foodservice and hospitality industries, as President and CEO effective Jan. 13. “We are thrilled to have attracted an experienced fast casual restaurant industry CEO like Sheri Miksa,” said Eric Selby, on behalf of Mazzio’s LLC’s ownership group. “We are certain Sheri’s strong industry background and experience, including her substantial time in the fast casual segment and with franchised organizations, will help us continue to build our brands in the growing casual Italian segments.” Mazzio’s origins began in 1961 with the Pizza Parlor, later known as Ken’s Pizza, founded by Ken Selby. Today the Mazzio’s corporation, parent to the Mazzio’s and Oliveto concepts, has grown to more than 140 locations, in 10 states. Most recently, Miksa was CEO of fast casual emerging concept Boneheads Grilled

Fish & Piri Piri Chicken. Miksa’s previous CEO roles include leading the 150-unit fast casual Rubio’s Restaurants chain (Rubio’s Fresh Mexican Grills – then NASDAQ: RUBO), and the 140-unit Robeks Juice brand, a 99 percent franchised fast casual chain. At Robeks, the number of restaurants increased by 50 percent during her tenure. “I am excited about the future of Mazzio’s,” said Miksa. “Fast casual Italian is an under-served and growing segment. Mazzio’s has been serving craveable pizzas, pastas and hot Italian sandwiches for over 50 years. I look forward to leading the company and working with the great people at Mazzio’s to achieve the brands’ significant growth potential, and to bringing the Mazzio’s experience – quality, flavorful, Italian dishes served fast, in a warm, inviting environment – to more markets across the country.” Previously, Miksa held executive roles with AFC Enterprises’ Seattle Coffee Company, Taco Bell Corporation, and LSG Sky Chefs. CCelebrating Success Goodwill Industries of Tulsa had a record-setting 2013.
By Duane Blankenship
For the past 87 years, Goodwill Industries of Tulsa has served area communities with dozens of programs and services, training facilities, 11 retail stores and 25 donation locations. The mission remains forever the same: to promote and make possible for every individual the dignity and self-sufficiency that comes with employment. The year 2013 was full of recordsetting achievements for Goodwill. Last year, Goodwill col-
lected, transported and processed over 21 million pounds of donations, resulting in a record volume for their retail stores. Monthly records in sales were set for every month except December when winter’s full force hit us. Following the damages incurred by the May 2011 tornado that devastated Joplin, Goodwill successfully opened a new store in February and maintained a permanent presence in Carthage.
The Goodwill Job Connection exceeded 600 job placements in 2013, and with additional placements from Goodwill training programs, the organization set a record for total placements in one year. bers who are trained to assist with developing resumes. These services are free of charge. Additionally, the Goodwill TulsaWORKS program provides training in computer, customer service, forklift and private security classes. All of Goodwill’s success over the past 87 years is, in large part, due to the generosity of citizens who make donations to the organization. “Our future successes rely on the continuing faithfulness of individual donors, businesses and caring groups,” said Store Manager Jaime Monroe. Now is a great time to clean out closets and donate to Goodwill. “New items arrive Monday through Friday each week, and new merchandise is displayed each day,” said Jaime. “We have a great election of active wear, and all sizes of children’s clothing and shoes are base priced at just $2.49.” Goodwill stores also carry accessory items, belts, shoes, purses and jewelry, all at unbelievable prices. Stores offer 25 percent off your entire purchase for senior shoppers 55 or older on the first and third Tuesday of each month. Customer Appreciation Day is featured once a month with a 25 percent discount on everyone’s total purchases. Lasting, Rejuvenating Results Minimally invasive and effective Liquid Face-Lifts and Facial Contouring by Results Medical Spa As we age, the face begins to lose collagen and elastin which contributes to sagging facial features. The loss of facial volume and elasticity also leads to the formation of wrinkles, lines and folds. A Liquid Facelift is a technique for injecting advanced dermal fillers, such as Voluma® to lift and contour facial features. A nonsurgical Liquid Face Lift can be undertaken to accomplish any of the following: 1. Gentle lift of individual (or overall) facial features 2. Reduced wrinkles, creases, line or folds 3. Restoration of natural, curved facial contours 4. A more rested, energetic look 5. A friendlier smile

Skin Rejuvenation In some patients the goal of a non surgical Liquid Face Lift procedure is to lift the entire face. In others, the goal is to lift or contour specific facial features. For example, under eye bags and dark circles can be masked by using Liquid Facelift techniques; eyebrows can be lifted; jowls can be lifted and diminished; natural shape can be restored to flattened cheeks or temple areas; corners of the mouth can be lifted; and bumps on the nose can be hidden. Many of these conditions and contouring procedures can last up to 2-years or more. As Seen On Entertainment Tonight

Lucas Metal Work’s Metal Roofing and Metal Buildings products are used every single day in all industries. Over the past 45 years, the company has developed a stellar reputation across Oklahoma and the Midwest, offering the highest quality products and

ber of advantages over other types of roofing materials. They not only look sleek and polished, thus increasing a home’s curb appeal, but they are also highly energyefficient and long-lasting. “Our metal roofs are guaranteed to last a long time, much

Lucas Metal Works also serves residential customers with the addition of metal buildings to their properties. “Metal buildings are great for storage space or work space. We have many customers who purchase metal buildings for hobbies and storing cars, airplanes, boats and RVs. Metal buildings are also used as greenhouses,” says Tammy. “The vinyl insulation used on the inside of the metal buildings keeps the noise factor down while being energy efficient. These affordable buildings are a useful and sound investment to add to your property.” Tammy says that in addition their top-tier products and talented team of professionals, what sets Lucas Metal Works apart is the strong relationship they maintain with their customers. “Lucas has been a trusted, respected name in the industry for over 45 years. with our customers from start to finish and beyond.” In 1968, Raymond Lucas started up a small custom metal works shop, and it was not long before his ideas outgrew his humble space. What began as a one-room shop is now a sprawling facility in Ochelata with a team of nearly 50 employees. They offer a variety of services in addition to metal roofing and buildings, including Lucas Equipment such as hay spears, bale unrollers, rock bucket, grapples, pallet forks, and disc-mower caddy. Their signature piece of equipment is the Groundhog Arena Tool, designed by Raymond himself. It is a unique tool that breaks up and levels out dirt, making the surface safer and less impactful on horses’ hooves. It has become the tool of choice for the National Finals Rodeo, as well as numerous other rodeo associations, farms and agricultural businesses. “The original unit, built over 17 years ago, is still in use today in the Lucas family arena,” says Tammy.

SSocial Security Disability Law: “It’s All We Do.” Social Security Law Center believes local representation is the best representation. Social Security Law Center, LLC, has been in business since 1990 and is one of the largest firms providing Social Security representation in the State of Oklahoma. They have successfully represented
thousands of clients and their total focus is on Social Security Disability Law. “It’s all we do,” said Teresa Grasso, Managing Attorney for the Tulsa Office. “We help our clients get disability
benefits.” According to Ms. Grasso, there are a lot of law firms requiring that the client has been denied disability before the firm will consider taking the case. Unlike other firms, Social Security Law Center prefers to be involved from the very beginning, before you’ve ever filed a claim. Social Security Law Center believes that local representation is the best representation and it should always be convenient for clients to visit with their attorney. That’s why the firm has offices in Tulsa, Oklahoma City, Bartlesville and Miami. The company’s attorneys have over 40 years of combined experience and choose to keep case loads small to ensure that each client gets the attention they deserve. The Tulsa office serves the Tulsa Metropolitan Area and surrounding areas.
Teresa M. Grasso is the Managing Attorney in the Social Security Law Center in Tulsa.
Ms. Grasso grew up in
south Tulsa and graduated from Jenks High School. She attended the University of Oklahoma where she graduated with distinction in 2001 and was bestowed with the honor of receiving the Maehl Award. In 2004, Ms. Grasso graduated with distinction from the OU College of Law with two academic achievement awards. While in Law School, she served as the business manager of the Oklahoma Journal of Law and Technology and was a member of the American Indian Law Review. Through zealous representation of her clients, Ms. Grasso has won hundreds of cases. Her comprehensive knowledge of Social Security law coupled with diligent development of her cases has made her one of the top representatives in the Tulsa area. “I have a very enjoyable and rewarding job,” says Ms. Grasso. She has been at Social Security Law Center for nine years and loves making clients happy by helping keep them from losing their homes, keeping them out of foreclosure,
helping the homeless get housing, and helping ensure that clients get the medical assistance they need. “We have a great support staff and when you call, a real person will answer the phone. And if a case necessitates, we’ll take it all the way to Federal Court,” she adds. Your case always stays in-house with the Social Security Law Center. “You’re not just a number with us, but quite the opposite,” said Ms. Grasso. “If you have a need for Social Security Disability representation, please contact us.” Your initial visit is free and there are no obligations. “You pay a fee only if we win your case.” Call or visit the website for more information.

AAn Extraordinary Weekend for Women The 2014 Extraordinary Women Conference will be February 28-March 1 at the Mabee Center.
By Sheryl Sowell
Ladies, mark your calendars now for the Extraordinary Women Conference, a weekend designed to help you draw closer to the heart of God and His amazing plan for your daily life. The conference will be held at the Mabee Center, February 28 through March 1, 2014. The Extraordinary Women Conference will be a wonderful weekend filled with music, praise and worship, entertainment and special guest speakers. Lonestar is celebrating their 20th year by reuniting with original lead singer
Richie McDonald, releasing a new album, and embarking on an anniversary tour, including a performance at the Extraordinary Women Conference in Tulsa. Known for merging their country roots with rich vocals, the band has achieved ten #1 country hits along with receiving the CMA Vocal Group of the Year award in 2001. For all their accomplishments, the biggest achievement of the band’s career has been witnessing the impact of Lonestar songs in the lives of others, according to lead singer Richie McDonald.
“Music is a very powerful tool and can help people going through both good and bad times,” he says. McDonald is proud that his band will be reaching fans at a special event like the Extraordinary Women Conference. “I want people to know that I am a country artist, but I was a Christian long before I was a country artist. It is rewarding to know that I can sing about my faith and maybe make a difference in somebody’s life.” Also performing at the EWomen conference, Michael O’Brien was the lead singer

of the Christian band NewSong for seven years. Sensing that God was placing a strong call on his life to step out and minister as a solo artist, he resigned his position with the band and has now been serving in the music ministry on his own for 20 years. Michael has built a reputation as an incredibly gifted singer and songwriter with a heart for ministering to the body of Christ. Julie Clinton, president of Extraordinary Women, has spoken to hundreds of thousands of women as host of EWomen conferences all across America. A person of deep faith, she cares passionately about seeing women live out their dreams by finding their freedom in Christ. “We as women give of ourselves all day, every day – to our husbands, children, careers and households – but we rarely give back to ourselves. This conference is our way of giving back to women, offering them a weekend away to experience hope and healing through Jesus Christ,” says Julie. “Extraordinary Women shares with all women, regardless of their religious affiliation, the love, acceptance and completeness God has for us.”
“Our speakers will discuss issues related to women, many that aren’t necessarily talked about at church on Sunday morning, such as divorce, illness and disappointment,” says Julie. The theme of this year’s conference, “The Joyful Journey,” comes from Romans 15:13 – “May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in Him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.” “Life is not always joyful,” says Julie, “but we must remember that the only true everlasting joy can be found through the Lord.” In addition to Julie, several other women will offer insightful and inspirational presentations at the conference, including Karen Kingsbury, Chonda Pierce, Carol Kent, Margaret Feinberg and Lisa Whelchel.

CCanoe Brook Staff Truly Cares Families can rest assured that their loved ones will be cared for – and cared about – at Catoosa-based Assisted Living.
By Deanna Rebro
“You can feel the difference when you walk in,” says Jim Colbert, executive director, Canoe Brook Assisted Living Community. The feeling is what it’s all about. There is joy among the residents and staff members, expressed through their smiles and warm greetings to those known and unknown. The spirit beyond the doors says, “Welcome” to everyone. “Our residents are number one,” says Jim, “always.” But it’s the unique and dedicated Canoe Brook staff that makes the residents their top priority – something that is
obvious even on a first impression. These people have answered a calling, Jim explains. They work from their hearts. They honor and respect senior citizens and love working with them. So much so, that quite often Jim hears comments like, “I love what I do, and I even get paid for it. I am blessed!” While food is the often biggest complaint within most assisted living centers, Canoe Brook offers meals that some families claim are better than 5-star restaurants. Dietary Manager, Glenda Aery, plans three meals a day to meet
both nutritional needs and personal tastes. Glenda makes 99 percent of her meals from scratch, including desserts. Her famous homemade pies have earned her the title, “the pie doctor.” Last summer, residents in the 38 assisted living apartments and 34 memory care apartments grew tomatoes and green peppers that were included in special salads. Life Enrichment Coordinator, Crystal Guest, comes up with ideas to keep the residents as active as they want to be. Sometimes entertainment comes to Canoe

Brook. Sometimes the residents entertain, with singalongs and piano numbers. There are Bingo nights, arts and crafts activities, and weekly outings for lunch or shopping. Seven common areas provide social opportunities in relaxed and comfortable home-like settings so residents can have something to do day or night. Speaking of the recent holidays brought a smile to everyone’s face as they recalled Santa’s surprise visit for an old-fashioned Christmas celebration. The inner child of each resident was at the party with all the excitement and expectations of Christmases gone by. The serious side of Canoe Brook, which opened in 2009, includes the direct care staff that treats each resident as their own family member. A registered nurse is on staff and an LPN is available on every shift. State-of-the art equipment keeps memoryimpaired residents safe and secure. A keypad entry and exit system is used for both the electronic gates that surround the building and the interior common areas. In addition, each resident wears a Wonder Guard monitoring bracelet to prevent wandering
for even the shortest time. Marketing Director, Anthony Fleming, says there is always someone to lend an ear, no matter when it is needed. That may be just a kind word spoken at the right moment or a special prayer for a special need. The Canoe Brook staff is there to serve because helping senior citizens is what they really want to do. Anthony would be happy to schedule a tour for anyone who has a loved one who can no longer live independently at home, but does not need 24-hour complex medical supervision. Assisted living apartments with a private key entry are available in three sizes. Each apartment includes numerous amenities that are considered upgrades at most other facilities.

Best Non-Invasive Cosmetic Procedures without undergoing surgery or experiencing any downtime. CoolSculpting® is a non-surgical technology that targets and cools unwanted fat cells in a selected area to induce a noticeable, naturallooking reduction in fat. Unlike most other methods of fat reduction, CoolSculpting involves no needles, no anesthesia, no surgery and no downtime. Patients often spend time reading, working on their laptops or simply relaxing while undergoing this “lunchtime” treatment. “CoolSculpting is a 60-minute procedure, so you can do it on your lunch break, and you can return to work right after,” says Malissa Spacek, managing partner of BA Med Spa. “We’re very excited to be
offering this incredible technology for our patients.” Developed by Harvard scientists, this procedure uses a targeted cooling process that kills the fat cells underneath the skin, literally freezing them to the point of elimination. Only fat cells are frozen – your healthy cells remain healthy. Once crystallized, the fat cells die and are naturally eliminated from your body. CoolSculpting is safe, FDA-cleared and effective. Results look natural and can be seen as early as three weeks following treatment, with the most dramatic results seen after one to three months. Treatment areas may include the abdomen, upper abdomen, love handles, bra line, inner thighs and backs of thighs. “You can even treat multiple
areas on the same visit,” adds Malissa. Of course we all want our bodies to look great, but we can’t forget about our faces! Another great treatment for those who don’t want to go “under the knife,” Ultherapy is a non- non-invasive procedure that uses ultrasound and the body’s own natural healing process to lift, tone, and tighten loose skin on the brow, neck, and under the chin. The only FDA-approved procedure to not only tighten but lift skin on these hard-totreat areas, Ultherapy stimulates the deep structural support layers of the skin – including those typically addressed in a surgical facelift – without disturbing the surface of the skin. With Ultherapy, there’s
Before CoolSculpting.
no downtime; you can go about your day after a single, 60 to 90 minute in-office procedure. Results will unfold over the course of two to three months, and some patients have reported continued improvement for up to six months, including lifting and tightening of the skin on the neck, under the chin, along the jaw line, and on the brow.
Straight Teeth in Months, Not Years plished in just a few months. “With the patented triangular design of the braces, cutting edge techniques and a special heat-activated wire, the new technology is revolutionizing the field of orthodontics,” said Dr. Deem. Traditional braces typically move teeth into position in two stages, usually over a period of about two years. During the first year, the crown of the tooth is moved into alignment. The second year of treatment addresses the correct position of the tooth's root. The Fastbraces® brackets work on a totally different mechanical principle. The patented system uses an innovative bracket and a specially-shaped wire to correct the position of the root
of the tooth from the beginning of treatment. This combination is key in realigning the root and crown simultaneously, allowing treatment to be completed in months instead of years. Thousands of consecutively treated patients and university research have shown that Fastbraces® are not only safe, but offer many additional benefits. It’s reported that patients often experience less discomfort, and there are no more risks with Fastbraces® than with traditional braces. And the fact that braces are worn for less time can mean that there is possibly less chance of tooth decay from improper oral hygiene. When the Fastbraces® are removed at the end of treatment,

patients wear a retainer for only 15 minutes a day. (Results will vary from patient to patient.) If you, your child or a relative has put off getting checked for braces, you owe it to yourself to schedule a consultation with Dr. Deem at Dentistry For You. Discover a New Pointe continued from page 1 Pointe provides top-tier service with everything from oil changes to transmission replacements, tires, batteries and more. South Pointe Honda came into existence last year and Mike became service manager in November. “Both the company and I have the intent to grow South Pointe Honda, and we have been doing so in every department, especially service,” said Mike. “We are currently looking for highly skilled, qualified technicians.” “Although South Pointe Honda is a fresh new store with lots of new ideas, we retained several of our longterm employees,” said Mike, “many who have 20 to 30 years experience with Honda. This is permitting us to keep our quality at the top level as we operate at the industry’s highest standard.” As South Pointe Honda’s new service manager, he continually trains in the latest technology and information to better serve his customers. Mike Kayser grew up in Tulsa and always had a keen interest in cars. His father and grandfather owned car lots in the area, and Mike got his first car when he was 16. He performed all the maintenance work
on it, giving him a great foundation for the position he holds today. After high school, Mike went to college in Tulsa and drove a Jeep Wrangler. His vehicle needed some work, so he worked part time as a porter at a Jeep BMW dealership. He was well liked and willing to fill in wherever needed. He found that he liked working on the BMW side of the business, and quickly found himself racking vehicles and assisting service department technicians. “BMW was a small dealership with a very high-end environment and I liked it,” said Mike. Mike married his high school sweetheart and they have two children. He has also previously worked for VW Audi.

Help for the "Non-Tech Savvy"
Urban Computers brings “personal” back to personal computer service.
By Christopher Davis
With the exception of more technologically-savvy users, most everyone has had the experience of helplessness when something goes awry with a computer. Even more frustrating is trying to get a computer fixed. While some of the big box stores attempt to provide adequate repair services, the reality is that such an approach usually results in unreasonable wait
times and impersonal interactions. A Family run business, Urban Computers combines convenience with an experience that is friendly, informative and dependable. Joseph Keefer has over 15 years’ experience in the IT field, and has been providing network and computer services to small businesses throughout the Tulsa region to Oklahoma City and
Bartlesville. With the opening of Urban Computers this past December, Joseph extends his services to private residences. Urban Computers is a one-stop shop for your computer needs. From repairs and upgrades to new systems and training, the store provides a services and expertise to ensure customers have a pleasant experience obtaining the products and support they

seek. Services provided by Urban Computers are extensive. Computer nonresponsive or seemingly ruined permanently? Bring it to Joseph and his staff, because they can perform miracles. "One customer brought me her laptop, which had chocolate milk spilled all over it," recalls Joseph. It was a sticky mess and she was sure it was unfixable." Joseph spent time taking apart the machine and meticulously cleaning the various components. "The only thing that ended up needing to be replaced was the keyboard," says Joseph. However, nothing could save everyone from the stench of rotten chocolate milk, which was also remedied during the thorough cleaning. Urban Computers is willing to make an effort seldom observed at larger stores. Services provided include software updates, memory upgrades, laptop and desktop repair, virus removal, data recovery, IPad and Apple computer service. Urban Computers is an HP Partner, a Dell Premier Partner and Microsoft certified. The store also sells new laptops, monitors, desktop systems and accessories. Joseph and staff will take the time to explain the differences and technical specifications of each option. And, if the desired system is not in stock, they will gladly order it for you, passing on competitive discounts and delivering directly to your home or
Page 25
office. Also in store are plenty of parts, accessories and cables to make sure your gadgets are working efficiently. There is even a display with fashionable accessories for your laptop or phone. But the support does not end with products and repair. Joseph already has plans in the works to provide training directly to his customers. Urban Computers will facilitate small classes for customers looking to learn how to more effectively use their computers and software. Beginning this month, look for classes on topics such as basic computer use, network security, cloud computing and Excel. In addition, classes are planned for helping parents monitor their kids’ Internet usage. Be sure to check their Facebook page (www.facebook.com/urbancomputerstulsa) for class schedules and Valentine’s Day deals. Business hours are Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday from 8 a.m. to noon. In the meantime, avoid the wait and crowds at the big box stores and stop by their store just south of 121st on Memorial.

Are You as Close to God As You Would Like to Be? Author and speaker Carol Round offers prayer journaling workshops, teaching women how to use journaling as a spiritual tool to nurture their relationship with God.
By Sheryl Sowell
A new year is in full swing, and many are still going strong with their resolutions to lose weight, quit smoking or learn a new hobby. Perhaps your personal goal is to focus on your spiritual wellbeing and nurture a more intimate relationship with God, but you're not sure how to go about doing so. Carol Round, author and speaker, discovered a technique over ten years ago that has allowed her to become more authentic in her relationship with God: prayer journaling. Carol has been keeping a prayer journal since 2001. Through this daily discipline, she discovered her true identity in Christ. Carol’s mission is to inspire women with her testimony and teach them the spiritual discipline of keeping a prayer journal by offering prayer journaling workshops. What exactly is a prayer journal? Carol explains that it is not a diary in which you record events of your daily life; rather, it is a tool for examining your life and a way
to keep track of your spiritual journey. It can also help you to develop a greater consistency in your prayer life. “Imagine being able to communicate your hopes, thoughts and feelings more clearly to your heavenly Father. Prayer journaling can do that once you make it a daily habit,” she says. Carol sits down each morning and pours her heart out into her journal, seeking guidance from the Lord. “Seizing the day by beginning it with God is one of the best ways I know to stay focused on growing a relationship with Him,” says Carol. “When I return to reread entries, I can see how God has answered my prayers and I discover how much I have grown. My prayer journal is like a love letter to God.” Before she wrote her book “Journaling with Jesus: How to Draw Closer to God” (as well as the companion workbook “The 40-Day Challenge”), Carol had been sharing with other women in
speaking engagements about the power of keeping a prayer journal. After the book was published, she began offering workshops on the subject. “My goal is to help others, especially women, to slow down and spend more time with the Lord and discover who we are in Christ. Our fast-paced society encourages us to be doers. While that can be good to an extent, I think if we take the time to discern what God wants us to do with our time, we would lead lives filled with less stress and more joy.” Carol has received a lot of positive feedback from women who have attended her workshops. One participant, Julie L., said, “Carol’s workshop will take you to new depths in knowing the Lord. If you seek a relationship with God, this is the place for you.” Melissa V. said, “I am a busy mom of young children. Utilizing the techniques Carol teaches has brought new life to my quiet times. Prayer journaling
Author and speaker Carol Round.
helps me to stay focused so I can use my time more effectively.” To book Carol for a prayer journaling workshop, call (918) 540-4282 or email her at carolaround@yahoo.com. “I enjoy doing small intimate workshops of 15 to 30 women so I can relate to them on a more personal level,” she adds. After retiring from a 30year teaching career, Carol began using her love of writ-
ing and speaking to glorify God. Her weekly faith-based column, “A Matter of Faith,” runs in 12 Oklahoma newspapers and several national publications, and she is the author of five books.

Patients Enjoy "New Life" with Wellness and Hormonal Balance Michele Neil, D.O., offers a wellness-based program that educates and empowers patients to enjoy the best possible health at any age. By Deanna Rebro
Dr. Michele Neil, founder of the Functional Medical Institute.
Michele L. Neil, D.O., offers a wellness-based approach to medical care that educates and empowers patients to enjoy the best possible health at any age. The Functional Medical Institute is not only a medical facility, but a physician-driven educational program that teaches patients how to stay well and out of the doctor’s office. If the Funtcional Medical Institute in Tulsa seems unlike other medical clinics, that’s because it is. The approach is different and so are the results. Founding physician Dr. Michele L. Neil says that her approach to healing is to get to the root cause of the patient’s problems (which commonly occur in a person’s lifestyle). “We provide the knowledge, understanding and tools for the patient to heal and make the lifestyle changes necessary for the best possible outcome,” she explains. A wellness-based approach adds a special flare in looking at nutrition, rest, exercise, stress management and hormone balance. “The emphasis on wellness and preventing disease by educating and empowering my patients brings me great satisfaction in
Page 27

the practice of medicine.” Dr. Neil, an internal medicine and sports medicine physician, explains her wellness approach. “I take an approach that looks at the whole individual and brings the entire body into balance. Once we achieve balance, we aim to keep it there, allowing for the most optimal and vital life one can lead.” Getting started in the process requires a medical work up with laboratory evaluation (onsite lab) and full physical examination, Inbody composition analysis, nutrition workshops and a 12-week lifestyle education program lead by Lori Lange. The lifestyle nutrition/wellness and coaching program is individualized for each patient. Individualization is another marker that sets the Functional Medical Institute apart. The Physicians Prescription for Nutrition, formulated by Dr. Neil, is comprehensive education for her patients. At least twice a month, Dr. Neil leads comprehensive health and wellness workshops that form the cornerstone of patient understanding and education about their health and the future their health holds. “Your health is your health insurance,” she adds. Dr. Neil believes that many of the chronic diseases can be prevented or even treated by simply the habits of lifestyle. In her nutrition lectures, her many topics include the harmful effects of the Standard American Diet, Hormone
Imbalance, Gut Dysfunction, and Inflammation and Stress Management. Most doctors would agree that their patients should lead a healthy lifestyle. “At the Functional Medical Institute we teach patients how to do so.” That is what makes the difference. Dr. Neil not only takes an aggressive approach to lifestyle, but also addresses signs and symptoms of aging. Men go through andropause just like women go through menopause. “Many men and women approaching their 50s just don’t feel themselves anymore.” As hormones decline, things change. Dr. Neil uses a multidimensional approach to hormone replacement that once again is individualized. There are many types of replacement to include patches, pills, creams, injections and pellet implants. She is certified in Age Management Medicine and makes use of the BioTe pellet hormone implants. Although pellet therapy has been used successfully since the 1930’s it is just now making its way into Oklahoma. The Functional Medical Institute strives to meet the unique needs of each patient to balance and improve the quality of life they live. For more information, contact

Modern Luxury in a Serene Country Setting M OK40 Ranch offers the best of both worlds for weddings and weekend retreats.
By Sheryl Sowell
One of the most challenging steps in planning a wedding is finding the perfect location, and for several years the Tulsa metro area has been limited to only a handful of places available for such an important event. That’s why Debbie Hunter, owner of Signature Interiors, had the idea to establish a beautiful new event center for weddings and other special occasions. “My initial plan was to open a bed
and breakfast when a friend asked me to host her wedding at the ranch. It was such a gorgeous ceremony, and working with so many brides at Signature over the years, I knew this was a niche that needed to be filled.” In addition to weddings and other large events such as church picnics, business retreats, retirement and graduation parties, OK40 Ranch offers romantic getaways for
two and relaxing weekends away for small groups of friends. “Whether your party is two people or 150, OK40 Ranch provides the ambiance of a charming B&B with the amenities of a luxurious upscale hotel,” says Debbie. The tranquil ranch offers 40 acres of walking and riding trails, horseback riding, two stocked ponds for fishing, and a bonfire pit. “We are in the middle of nowhere, and

that is exactly where we want to be. The stars are clear and bright, and the atmosphere is so peaceful,” says Debbie. “A weekend at OK40 Ranch would make a wonderful gift for your Valentine’s Day sweetheart.” The beautiful event center features vibrant, hip décor, a complete spa room with professional massage available, library, workout room, sauna, hot tub and media room. Overnight guests will enjoy luxury linens, roomdarkening shades, 42” plasma televisions, movies on demand and high-speed Internet. The Frank Lloyd Wright inspired design of the interior features 26-foot ceilings and solar energy windows which maximize the use of sunlight. “You truly get the best of both worlds – sophisticated, modern luxury in a serene country atmosphere,”
says Debbie. By May of this year, OK40 Ranch will have completed the reception hall that holds up to 400 guests. In the fall of 2014, the property will feature private cabins and teepees for additional overnight guests. OK40 Ranch is located less than 20 minutes south of Bixby. Call now to book your romantic weekend escape, weekend with the girls, or the perfect location for your dream wedding or other special event. Truly a design visionary, Debbie can also provide all-inclusive wedding consultation services. For more information, contact

CCasting Smiles on Patients’ Faces Dr. Bradley Lawson, Central States Orthopedics, is committed to serving the local community’s orthopedic needs.
by Cassie Woods
Central States Orthopedics is dedicated to consistently providing the highest level of professional orthopedic care to patients of all ages. Bradley Lawson, M.D., runs the satellite offices in Owasso and Broken Arrow, where he provides hand, foot and ankle care, total joint care, general orthopedics and sports medicine care. Dr. Lawson can provide non-surgical treatment options such as prescribing medications, physical therapy, injections, splinting, casting, and bracing. Surgical treatment options that he can provide include carpal tunnel surgery, fracture
fixation, arthroscopic surgery, ligament repair and reconstruction, and joint replacement surgeries. The majority of patients he sees on a weekly basis are people who have fractures of the arm, leg, foot, ankle, wrist, elbow, hand, forearm and shoulder. He also sees many patients who may have had a previous injury for which they never received the proper treatment. Dr. Lawson conducts surgeries at Bailey Medical Center (Owasso), St. Francis Hospital South (located at 91st and Highway 169), and Oklahoma Surgical Hospital (located at 81st and Lewis in

Tulsa). Dr. Lawson takes emergency room call at Bailey Medical Center and St. Francis Hospital South, so be sure to ask the hospital for Dr. Lawson to be your orthopedic doctor. In Owasso, the satellite office is conveniently located down the street from the new Sam’s Club, just off the Owasso Expressway next to Urgent Care of Green Country. In Broken Arrow, the satellite office is located on Elm between 91st and 101st at the St. Francis Medical Plaza. “We are pleased to serve the Owasso and Broken Arrow communities,” said Dr. Lawson. “We offer a full range of orthopedic services and resources here, which allows our patients to avoid the hassle and stress of a long drive in traffic to receive comparable care.” Dr. Lawson is board certified in orthopedic surgery and fellowship trained in orthopedic sports medicine. He graduated from Baylor University with bachelor's degrees in both biology and Spanish. After completing his undergraduate work, Dr. Lawson attended the University of Texas Medical School in San Antonio. After medical school, he enlisted in the mili-
tary, where he spent 16 years on active duty serving in the Air Force, where he treated the men and women of the military and their families. During his time in the military, he completed a five-year surgery residency in orthopedic surgery. After serving as an orthopedic surgeon in the military, Dr. Lawson went on to complete more education in sports medicine. He completed a year-long fellowship in sports medicine in Connecticut and Manhattan (New York City). He trained with Dr. Kevin Plancher, who has over 25 years of orthopedic surgery experience. “Certainly, the amount of training and experience that a surgical doctor has makes for a better physician,” said Dr. Lawson. “For that reason, it is my goal to always be learning and growing to ensure I am providing the best patient care I can.” If his credentials aren’t enough, Dr. Lawson also brings commitment and passion for healing to his patients. “Sometimes patients spend years in pain, not knowing that there are treatment options out there to help them get better,” said Dr. Lawson. “It is a rewarding
experience to help those people get back to their everyday activities pain free.” Additionally, their office employs a bilingual receptionist named Meyling. She answers the phones and helps to translate and assist Spanish speaking patients. Central States Orthopedics in Owasso and Broken Arrow are open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Central States Orthopedics in Owasso schedules patient appointments on Monday, Tuesday, and Friday. Their office in Broken Arrow schedules patient appointments on Thursdays. To best serve the community, Dr. Lawson’s office guarantees a new patient can be seen within 48 hours of scheduling the appointment.
