Giving the Gift of Home Donating Dental Services Choices for Life Foster Care spreads the love of the season to therapeutic foster children during the holidays and year-round.

By Deanna Rebro

Many area children will not feel the love of a family this Christmas morning. They may have a tree to share with

others just like them, and they will have food and safe shelter, but they won’t have the special support and care they need.

Every day, Phyllis Bowen, supervisor/therapist, Choices for Life Foster Care, gets calls

Eastern Oklahoma Donated Dental Services provided $4.4 million in no-fee dental treatment last year to disabled and elderly low-income clients. By Duane Blankenship

Choices for Life staff members (front row) Phyllis Bowen, Suzanne Cunningham, Beverly Litterell, (back row) Cynthia Stubblefield, Lisa Bohbrink, Keith Griffin and Kimberly Cardwell help children in therapeutic foster care become successful adults.

In 2003, after severing relations with D-Dent, an existing donated dental service organization based in Oklahoma City, two women representing the Tulsa branch came to the executive board of the Tulsa County Dental Society (TCDS) with a plea to maintain a Tulsa office and provide local residents with donated dental services. A task force committee was established to research the feasibility of establishing a new organization in Tulsa and to determine the demand to provide local residents with donated dental services. Michael A. Kincaid, DDS, was vice president of the TCDS and acknowledged that Tulsa should have an organization to administer care for resi-

dents 65 years of age and older who were physically or mentally disabled and financially challenged. After determining the overwhelming need for an active Tulsa-based donated dental services organization, Eastern Oklahoma Donated Dental Services, Inc. (EODDS) was established. The non-profit was formed to serve the eastern half of Oklahoma and was granted 501(c)(3) status by the end of 2003. EODDS Executive Director Michael Smith, PhD, says, “Running full speed ahead, the newly formed organization enlisted approximately 140 Tulsa area dentists volunteering to work in conjunction with EODDS (continued on page 24)

20 Years of Excellence J. David celebrates 20th anniversary in the jewelry business. By Duane Blankenship

Twenty years ago, Joel David Wiland and his wife, Kendra, started a jewelry business in their home. “We started our business with three rings, $500 cash and a lot of faith,” says Joel. “The first year we did $6,000 in gross sales. Yes, it was a ‘gross’ year and we ate a lot of macaroni and cheese!” Today the couple has two J. David Jewelry stores located in Broken Arrow and Tulsa and a Pandora store at Woodland Hills Mall in Tulsa. The business is family owned and operated; their son Landon is the company’s marketing director. “Although we started with little,” says

ASK THE MONEY MAVEN STRAIGHT-FORWARD, NO-NONSENSE TALK ABOUT YOUR MONEY

Before You Start Pushing Up Daisies…. Are Your Ducks in a Row? BY MELANIE HASTY-GRANT

Now, unless you plan to spend all your kids’ inheritance or you purposefully want to leave them a big mess, you need to do some proper estate planning. I can’t begin to tell you how many smart people make really dumb mistakes when it comes to trying to protect their money during their senior years and transfer it to their kids upon their death. Sometimes it is out of ignorance, and sometimes it is just trying to be pennywise and ending up pound foolish. The following are the top 7 mistakes I have seen people make: • I got my Will off the Internet. • My friend told me I should put my child on all my accounts to make sure my bills get paid if I become ill. • I have a Will, so my estate won’t go through probate. • I have a child who can’t handle money, so I am giving everything to my brother and he will take care of my child. • My situation is very simple…I don’t need estate planning. • If I leave everything to my spouse, there is no tax. • We don’t need any long term care insurance; our kids will take care of us. I have seen some pretty flubbed up estate planning. I would certainly give a second thought to doing your Will on the Internet. This is an important document and you want to pay the money to make sure it is done correctly. Unless you have a Trust, your

estate will go through probate. Please hear me…a Will does NOT exempt your estate from probate. While putting your child on your bank accounts will allow them to have access to your account to pay your bills if you become unable to do so, it can potentially be a poor choice. If your son or daughter gets in an accident and is sued and their name is on your account, it could be a bad choice. If your son or daughter gets a divorce and their name is on your account, it could be a bad choice. If your goal is for them to have access to your account to pay your bills if you become ill, you can accomplish this with a simple Power of Attorney. If your goal is for them to get the account when you die without going through probate, you can accomplish this by either setting the account up as a TOD (Transfer on Death) and it will cost you nothing, or through establishing a Trust. If one of your children can’t handle money, get a Trust. Don’t assume that your brother Billy (or his

wife) will handle everything exactly as you would like. Money has a strange way of convincing folks to do otherwise. If you leave everything to your spouse, they will still have to pay taxes on your IRA assets. However, if you choose them as the beneficiary on your IRAs, they will be able to take the money out over time rather than all at once, which will save them in taxes. You don’t want your children changing your diapers. Your spouse may not be able to take care of you. Get long term care insurance so that it doesn’t leave your spouse in poverty. Regardless of the amount of money or stuff you have, it is worth getting it to the people you would want to have it when you die. I’m sure you don’t have Uncle Sam at the top of your beneficiary list. For more information go to www.waterstonewealth.com or call 918272-1120. Love...Take Risks... SShare and Enjoy the Journey. The store motto of Bling Boutique, located at 109th and Memorial in Tulsa, perfectly sums up the staff’s feelings about life and fashion. By Duane Blankenship The Bling Boutique is a treasure trove of fashion with an intimate shopping environment, offering personal service to help ensure that you look and feel great about yourself. Store owner Rhonda Cotroneo has always had a passion for fashion. She opened her Bling Boutique in 2012 with a goal to empower each patron. “We serve customers of all sizes and shapes, from teens to seniors, as we help them find their style and build their confidence,” said Rhonda. “We want everyone who comes through our door to feel special and encouraged. Enjoy every day that you have and live it to the fullest!” “I’ve had many women come into the shop,” said Store Manager Valorie Reynolds, “who have flat out said, ‘I can’t wear that! I’m too old or I’m too this or that.’ I tell them, ‘Yes you can! Don’t let your age, size, shape or society put you in a box!’” Rhonda says the Bling team can help camouflage any “problem area” you feel you have. “We’re specialists,” added Rhonda, “and we’re going to send you out of Bling with bags of great outfits and lots of confidence to boot!” The Bling team has successfully created a refuge, a comfort zone, where good vibes are apparent. They are a full-service clothing fashion and accessory shop featuring items from

everyday wear to business and evening attire. “We also carry a lot of denim, with a complete range to fit you and

your budget.” Bling Boutique also offers jackets, skirts, dresses, blouses, shirts and sweaters, camisoles and leg-

gings, plus jewelry, costume to designer including rings, bracelets, necklaces, pendants and more.

Some of the exclusive brand names that you will find at Bling include Rock Revival, Big Star, Leatherock, Andrew Hamilton Crawford and many others, plus other wellknown brands like Zenzii and Elan. Be sure to keep your eyes open for the new Bling website that is nearing completion. With the holidays upon us, Rhonda reminds customers about the “Wish List” program that has been so successful for the last two years. This allows customers to come in and make a wish list so their significant other or Santa can come in and purchase exactly what they want. They even have gift wrap available! Bling gift items include collegiate wear, Swan Creek Candles, Good Works Bracelets and so much more. To celebrate this holiday season, the ladies at Bling will be giving away a very special Andrew Hamilton Crawford bracelet ($160 value). You can visit the store for entry details. “Stock turns quickly,” said Rhonda. “If you see something you like today, you’d probably better make the purchase. It will likely be gone tomorrow.” Ladies, mark your calendars to join Rhonda and the Bling staff each Thursday evening in December for “Wine Night” where you can sip, swirl and shop until 7:30 p.m. “We want you to look great and feel great about yourself,” said Rhonda, “and Bling is dedicated to helping you do just that.”

Furnace Maintenance

Repair or Replace?

Making sure your furnace is working properly is key to keeping energy costs down. Here are some things you should do every fall to make sure your furnace is running as efficiently and as safely as possible:

Knowing whether to repair or replace your furnace is not always an easy question to answer. Consider the following factors to help make your decision easier:

• Check vents to make sure they are clear. Blockages will cause the furnace to run inefficiently. • Make sure the thermostat is working properly. • Change the air filter at the start of the heating season, and monthly thereafter. • Check for gas leaks. If you notice the smell of gas, or any of the connections look worn or damaged, call a professional for repair before you start up the furnace. • If you have an electronic air cleaner, clean the air filter every other month. • Schedule an annual tune-up.

Safety first: If it is a safety hazard to continue using the furnace, replace it. Age: The average lifespan of a furnace is 15 to 20 years. How close to the end of the life cycle is your furnace? Cost: Get a quote for the cost of the repair and a quote for the cost of replacement, including installation charges to make an accurate comparison. Efficiency: Are your energy bills creeping up every year in spite of annual furnace repair and service? If your furnace is 15 years old or beyond and the cost of the repair would cover a significant part of the cost of a new system, consider replacement. Factor in the energy savings when determining the cost of a new system as upfront expenses may be recouped over time.

Beautiful Lighted Holiday Displays for 2014 Two free drive-through events are happening in Muskogee – Castle Christmas at The Castle of Muskogee and The Garden of Lights at Honor Heights Park, open Thanksgiving Day through New Year’s Eve.

By Sheryl Sowell Celebrate the best of family holiday traditions at The Castle of Muskogee. Take a leisurely drive through Castleton Village, filled with over 2,000 holiday lighted displays. The drivethrough is free, and donations are gratefully accepted. Outside The Castle, you can take a hayride or a carriage ride through the Village, or ride the ponies or the camel. Come inside The Castle for old-fashioned family holiday activities: bring your kids to make ornaments in Santa’s workshop, warm up by the fireplace, and plan your visit with Father Christmas. Horse-drawn carriage rides

start in the parking lot of The Castle and travel through a part of the village that is not accessible to cars, so you will see different displays than on the drive-through

route. Cost is $10 per adult, $5 per child, or take advantage of the Family Pack, $25 for up to 5 people. Tractor-drawn hayrides start in the parking lot of The Castle

and also travel through the village on a different route than the car drive-through. These depart every half hour. Cost is $5 per person, children 12 and under are free. Pony rides are a holiday favorite and cost $5 per child. Camel rides are a fun, exotic way to travel. Be one of the Three Kings for $5 per person. Shop local while at The Castle. Stop in for some holiday shopping with our Made In Oklahoma merchants and find something unique for yourself and your loved ones. You can also get fireworks for New Year’s Eve celebrations and items from The Christmas Shoppe for your own holiday displays. Father

Christmas will be at the Castle on Fridays and Saturdays from December 5 through December 20 from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. There is no cost to talk to Father Christmas, and pictures will be available for a nominal fee. Be sure to stop into the Royal Garden Cafe for a light supper or snack, hot chocolate and treats, and great company. Sit and enjoy holiday movies for the whole family. The Castle’s additional events are open November 27-30, December 4-7 and every night December 11-31. In nearby Honor Heights Park, the Garden of Lights attracts thousands of visitors. The celebration includes a free drive-through display of over a million shimmering lights displayed throughout the park. Internationally known for its Azalea Festival, Honor Heights Park draws up to a half million visitors annually to its 122 acres, which are planted with more than 30,000 azalea bushes and thousands of trees, beautifully situated among the park’s scenic hilltop drive. Christmas lights are placed on trees, bushes and structures throughout the park to enhance the natural beauty of the gardens, waterfalls, and ponds. Gates open at 5:30 p.m. nightly, and the event is free.

88th Annual Live Nativity King of Kings Lutheran Church presents its annual Christmas celebration December 13 and 14.

By Sheryl Sowell As we prepare to spend the next month decorating our homes and Christmas trees and purchasing gifts for loved ones, King of Kings Lutheran Church in Glenpool calls us all to remember the true purpose of the Christmas season. In an effort to carry out the mission to celebrate the birth of Christ, King of Kings will be presenting a live nativity scene on Saturday, December 13 and Sunday, December 14 at 6 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. each night, in the field just southeast of 151st Street and Highway 75. Complete with costumed actors, sheep, camels, a donkey and a stable, the live nativity depicts the story of Christ’s birth from the angel Gabriel’s announcement to Mary, through the arrival of the three wise men. Pastor Rick Tabisz will narrate the Christmas story while the actors illustrate the journey, conflicts and celebration that the family experiences. At the end of the presentation, audience members are invited to sing “Silent Night” and warm up with hot cocoa and cookies while petting the animals and visiting with the cast. “The live nativity is a simple reenactment of the birth of Christ that everyone in the family will enjoy. Several families have told me they make this a

part of their Christmas traditions every year,” said Pat Bartley, co-chair of the public relations committee. “When we all sing together at the end of the performance, it creates a truly beautiful, peaceful feeling within.” The presentation itself will last for approximately 30 minutes, and it is performed regardless of

the plunging temperatures. Seating is provided, but Bartley urges spectators, “Please dress appropriately and bring blankets. The metal bleachers are very cold.” The live nativity takes place on 13 acres located on the southeast side of Highway 75 and 151st Street in Glenpool. Please arrive early to find seating. Porta-Potties

will also be available. This is the eighth year that King of Kings Lutheran Church has presented the live nativity. “We are a missionary church,” Bartley says. “This is our small way of sharing Christ’s love with the community. Our goal is to capture the feel of our Savior’s birth. It isn’t about commercializa-

tion; it is about the simplicity and the joy of the occasion.” This project is free to the community, and funding comes from both the congregation and Thrivent Financial, an organization that does much more than offer financial services. They also offer outreach opportunities that enable members to help their communities and congregations. “The entire presentation is a testament to the season. The volunteerism that it requires is truly indicative of the Christmas spirit,” says Bartley. “We look forward to you joining with us in thanksgiving as we celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ: Son of God, King of Kings, Wonderful Counselor, Prince of Peace, and yes, the real ‘reason for this season’ of Christmas.”

The FUTURE of Back Treatment is Here! “After having an MRI, I was diagnosed with having a herniated disc. The pain was like a knife jabbing in my buttock and down my legs. My doctor told me that I was facing surgery on my back and to prepare to spend thousands of dollars and be off work for several months. Then I found Dr. Day and heard about the success he was having treating disc problems by using a new procedure called Non-Surgical Spinal Decompression. So I decided to try it! On a scale of 1-10 my pain was an 8 when I started but after only a few weeks of treatment my pain level dropped to a 0-1. I am very happy with my treatment and am so glad I said ''No!'' to back surgery.

Twisted Christmas

Twisted Soul Sisters’ new location offers twice the space for trendy clothing, jewelry, boots and gift selections. By Deanna Rebro Make it a Merry Twisted Christmas with a holiday outfit that wows the room or a special gift that wows some lucky person. Now settled in its new location at 13160 S. Memorial Dr., Twisted Soul Sisters offers twice the selections in clothing, jewelry, boots and gifts. In keeping with their philosophy of “making old things new again,” co-owners and best friends Kelly Corey and Marti Coleman create custom jewelry pieces from items that customers bring in, or choose from the thousands of vintage beads in all colors, shapes and sizes, as well as buttons, charms, pendants and brooches. Kelly and Marti can take those items and rework them into stunning one-ofa-kind necklaces, bracelets, earrings or belt buckles. The possibilities for new jewelry designs are endless. A lot of customers go through grandma’s jewelry box

and find her favorite clip-on earrings, large brooch or other pieces they would never wear. But once reworked, they remain sentimental but are exclusively updated and enjoyed again. Other jewelry offerings include collegiate custom charms, high school spirit necklaces and personalized stamping on a variety of disks. Twisted Soul Sisters features more than 30 lines of specialty clothing in a cozy and friendly boutique atmosphere, with a mix of new and vintage throughout the store. With only one run per style, you won’t see these clothes in the malls and on everyone else. The clothes are always trendy, and it is not unusual to find three generations of ladies shopping together. Teens, moms and grandmas find just the right look and fit for them, no matter what size. Three new plus-size lines offer

Co-owner Kelly Corey is excited about the holiday offerings available at Twisted Soul Sisters. clothing to size 22 and tops to 4X. This season, Twisted Soul Sisters has added seven new jeans styles in their core denim line, Dear John. “This is denim that really keeps its shape,” says Kelly, “and we have dressy holiday styles at reasonable price points.” Ladies who say they have never been able to find a pair of jeans that fit are amazed to discover the perfect pair of jeans. And they don’t have to spend a lot of money. A pair of head-turning boots complements any jeans or many other outfits. Twisted Soul Sisters carries a large selection of Old Gringo, Corral and Liberty Black boots. Not sure about size or

color? Pick up a gift certificate. The Mud Pies home and gift line includes many great ideas for hostess gifts or stocking stuffers. Prices start at just $8. Highly fragranced candles and diffusers are another idea, as well as products for soothing and pampering. Enjoy the shopping and take home your purchases, beautifully wrapped for free. Ladies stop by to see what Twisted Soul Sisters is all about and they return again and again. The fashionable clothes, unique jewelry and totally refreshing shopping experience set Twisted Soul Sisters far apart from any other store. The friendly and

Quality Dental Plan Resolves Dental Dilemmas White Smile Cosmetic & Family Dentistry offers a Quality Dental Plan that eliminates the insurance company middle man. By Steve White, D.D.S At White Cosmetic and Family Dentistry, it is our mission to provide our patients high-quality dentistry in a friendly, comfortable and caring environment. As healthcare debates continue, our dental practice has taken a step to help Tulsa area families afford quality dental care. More than 60 percent of Americans do without dental insurance because they feel they can’t afford it. A recent “CBS News” report indicated dental decay as a contributing factor in many seemingly unrelated issues including employment problems, heart disease and childhood school absences. It’s not unusual for a child to be in chronic pain because a simple cavity was not caught and treated in time. Much of the cost of dental care is going to third parties: the insurance companies,

claims form administrators and collection costs. When a potential dental problem is detected early – through regular exams and preventive procedures including cleanings and fluoride treatments – and then treated, it inherently saves you money, much more than if you wait to receive treatment after the problem has become a greater issue. You’ve heard the old saying, “Pay me now or pay me later.” When we saw the hundreds of dollars families were spending for treatments that could have been avoided by early detection through simple routine checkups, we chose to put a tailored plan in action that is currently being made available in selected dental offices across the nation. The plan is both simple and ingenious and is called the QDP (Quality Dental Plan). I have found that we can offer free exams, free teeth cleanings with all necessary exams and 20 percent off most dental procedures, by offering our own in-house dental savings plan. QDP eliminates the insurance company middle man and their huge profits, and puts the savings back in your pocket. The premiums individuals or employers pay for dental insurance more than cover the costs of two cleanings, exams and preventive care in most dental offices. Instead of wasting these dollars on excessive premiums, they can be

used instead for needed treatment. With this plan, you and your family will have no reason to avoid recommended check-ups and cleanings. I hope that the cost savings potential of QDP will make sense to employers as an alternative to offering current dental insurance options to their employees. When you visit “White Smile,” you’ll find a full range of services utilizing only the latest materials, techniques and technologies available. We have a beautiful, comfortable office with a friendly, caring and helpful staff. This Ad Sponsored By:

Privacy is often overlooked as a priority for estate planning but it’s extremely important. Elderly individuals are often targets of fraudulent solicitations and schemes. Look into a Revocable Living Trust, which avoids probate and ensures privacy for the family. Estate planning is not just for the wealthy. Aquarium Recruits Volunteers to Get Their Feet Wet Oklahoma Aquarium volunteers gain unique experience and knowledge, and have fun at the same time.

By Christopher Davis When Ann Money first moved to the area 14 years ago to help open the Oklahoma Aquarium, there were only a handful of “land-locked” aquariums. Since its official opening in 2003, however, aquariums with no access to the ocean have grown in popularity – no doubt, in part, to the success of the facility in Jenks.

Money, the curator of education programs and research, is quick to acknowledge the secret to the Oklahoma Aquarium’s continued success: it is the love, commitment and hard work of all the volunteers who help in the galleries and behind the scenes. “The aquarium relies on volunteerism to function,” she explains. “Some of our volunteers have been with us for 13 years.”

At any given time, there are about 150 regular volunteers who help keep things flowing at the facility. And, while just over 300 volunteers are active in the program, Money says that, ideally, the aquarium would like that number to top 400. Aquarium volunteers enjoy special benefits. Aside from the obvious special access to exhibits and unique learning experience,

Aqua Agent volunteer Emma Suppes poses with a horseshoe crab.

Specializing in Thick Hair

volunteers also receive discounts at the café and gift shop, as well as behind-the-scenes tours and half price membership for their family. There are five types of volunteers at the Oklahoma Aquarium. As new volunteers gain more experience, opportunities for increased involvement and responsibility are offered. As volunteers learn more about how things work at the aquarium, special opportunities to work even more closely with the animals are offered. A select few are chosen to work behind the scenes, preparing food for the various creatures, keeping their habitats clean and assisting the professionals on staff. Aqua Agents are adult volunteers who hold down the fort and generally interact with the public the most. They work the information booth, lead teach-talks and provide support for the galleries. Anyone who has been to the aquarium recalls encountering numerous smiling faces, ready to answer a question or share interesting factoids about the creatures in the tank; these are the Aqua Agents. The Aqua Teens, aged 13 to 17, are comprised of youth who are interested in and might be considering a career in science. These volunteers work up close with exhibits, supporting staff or other volunteers. A rare opportunity for an Oklahoma teen, these volunteers learn a lot about marine life.

Page 23

Tulsa Achieves volunteers are students from the Tulsa Community College program, for whom community engagement is part of their admission requirements. Since its creation in 2007, the Tulsa Achieves Program has amassed a standing army of volunteers for the community’s nonprofit organizations. “Many of these students come back each year to volunteer with us, even after they graduate.” Perhaps the most glamorous of opportunities is the Dive Program. Volunteers who have displayed the highest level of commitment and responsibility – and obtained the proper certifications – are afforded the opportunity to dive in the coral reef exhibit. “There are always two divers at a time,” notes Money, explaining that all safety precautions are taken. These divers feed and clean the large coral reef tank, sometimes even serving as entertainment for the viewers. If volunteering for the Oklahoma Aquarium sounds interesting and fun to you, simply go to their website at www.okaquarium. org and click “Get Involved” to fill out an application.

Giving the Gift of Home from DHS representatives who are desperately seeking help for special children with special needs. “Unfortunately,” says Phyllis, “I have to turn them down. We just don’t have enough foster homes.” A Christmas wish for Phyllis, the children in need, and the many counselors and professionals who serve them is that more people will try to open their homes to these kids. It is not an easy task. Every child that Choices for Life places in a home has obstacles to overcome. Some have been victims of neglect, substance abuse, domestic violence, parental incarceration, abandonment and more.

continued from page 1

They come from across all socio-economic classes. The one thing they have in common is that they do not function like other children their age. Phyllis explains that a big mistake that many new applicants make is to treat the child like their own children. These kids have had life experiences that other children have not. Their emotions are bruised. They feel isolated. For some kids, doing well in school is the farthest thing from their minds. Foster parents with good hearts may not understand this at first. But in the eight weeks of training to become

certified, they will. Beverly Litterell, statewide training and recruiter supervisor, provides some of the best parent training available. She prepares the parents or single adults for behaviors they may never have expected. A oneday seminar covers Behavior Crisis Management Training. She also lets parents know that help is just a phone call away. A counselor or therapist is available to answer the phone 24/7. A counselor also visits each home every week. The challenge is big, but so are the rewards. Phyllis recalls several adoptions within foster families that have occurred this year.

It is hard to place any child in therapeutic foster care, but teens have the hardest time. When they are placed, they are taught independent living skills. They learn how to manage money and take driver’s education. They are enlightened to the possibilities of higher education and a career. Phyllis says several have expressed interest in working professionally with foster kids. There are other ways to help if fostering is not possible. Gift certificates are always needed for the foster families and the kids. Pizza, shopping sprees, movies and outings are greatly appreciat-

ed. Tickets to the zoo or aquarium, which are not always within budgets, are extra special. This month, Choices for Life will treat approximately 50 children and their foster families to a skating party and presents from Santa. For more information, contact

20 Years of Excellence continued from page 1 Joel, “God has blessed us and grown our business. Our faith has never faltered, and God has provided the lamp to light our pathway as we have taken each new step.” Joel believes that many people fail because they stand still and do nothing. “You can’t change direction if you’re not moving, and the real key to success is the ability to stay focused on that which you do best.” He and Kendra have never stood still and, consequently, have grown a highly success ful business. The Wilands have built their business on service. They own the only jewelry stores in the state with full imaging capabilities at each location. With their computer-aided cad-cam, they have the ability to design and create custom, one-of-a-kind jewelry. Once a design is completed, it is downloaded to a 3-D printer to produce a plastic mock up that is ultimately used in the production process of the custom design. J. David has four full-time custom jewelry designers. Joel says the jewelry profession is probably the oldest business in the world. “Jewelry has been around for over 6,000 years, and many in our industry continue doing things the same way simply because that’s how it’s always been done. We like to think J. David has taken a different approach.” With the 3-D printer, a customer can see, touch and feel a prototype of their custom jewelry design. Finished products are cast onsite, and then the diamonds are set. “Turnaround time is

generally under three weeks when conditions are perfect,” adds Joel. Joel feels changes being made in the industry are making J. David Jewelry more relevant because of their unique products and production capabilities. “Highest principles are the foundation upon which our business has been built,” he says. “Kendra and I make two trips each year to Antwerp, Belgium. Because we are members of the Independent Jewelers Organization, we are allowed to personally make selections from some of the world’s best diamonds, effectively cutting out the middle man.” J. David Jewelry has always been a favorite shopping destination, especially around the holidays, when the store is stocked with the latest in jewelry trends and traditions that are sure to please any recipient and your budget. For truly unique gift ideas, visit any one of the three locations to find beautiful gifts of jewelry that will last a lifetime.

Donating Dental Services to provide no-fee services for Oklahomans, primarily in Tulsa and surrounding areas. Additionally, two representatives of International Dental Arts Laboratory agreed to serve on the EODDS Board of Directors and provide necessary laboratory procedures for EODDS patients at a reduced cost.” Since inception, in accordance with nonprofit status regulations, all monies received from funding sources have been used to pay laboratory fees, administrative compensations, and EODDS business sanctioned events. In 2013, just 10 years

after inception, EODDS averaged over $4,400,000 in care provided by 320 dentists. This figure represents more donated care than California, Texas, New York, Pennsylvania and Florida combined for the same period. EODDS is the largest non-profit donated dental service in the world and has grown to that distinction in less than a decade. This truly “feel good” story has impacted the lives of over 10,000 patients by providing 20 million dollars worth of dental services in its first 10 years. Today, the purpose of EODDS is to connect volun-

Clients must be physically or mentally disabled, low-income, and drawing their Social Security Disability (SSD) or Supplemental Security Income (SSI). Clients may not have any savings accounts, CDs, trust accounts, IRAs or any other means of paying for dental care. Elderly clients must be 65 years of age or older and lowincome. Clients may not have any savings accounts, CDs,

trust accounts, IRAs or any other means of paying for dental care, and all clients must meet the current year Annual Federal Poverty Guideline. Executive Director Smith expressed his gratitude to the more than 19 foundations, trusts and organizations that are EODDS funders and have been faithful to the cause since its beginnings in 2003. “Without their support and the benevolent dentists participating in the program, EODDS would not exist. We thank them all.” You may contact the

EODDS office for an application or download one from the website and mail it in if you believe you or someone you know may qualify for services.

FFamiliar Face in a New Location Olga Arnold, well-known skin care professional in the Tulsa area for the past ten years, welcomes clients to her new business, Skin Ambitions Medical Spa.

By Deanna Rebro Well-known skin care professional Olga Arnold has recently opened her new business, Skin Ambitions Medical Spa, at 7909 E. 79th St. in the Spine and Orthopedic Institute building. Tucked into the southeast corner of the building, it provides a quiet and relaxing atmosphere for her and colleague Natasha Korneva to give each client the best possible skin care they can get. Many people in the Tulsa area have relied on Olga’s skin care methods and techniques for the past decade. With advanced level medical training in Europe and trained by world-class plastic surgeons in Beverly Hills, New York and Europe, Olga gives clients the results they want without unnecessary bruising and swelling. Whether using Botox or dermal fillers, she examines a face and determines the best places to inject, as well as areas to avoid. “I have a lot of passion for aesthetics,” says Olga. “I want to help people improve the look, feel and health of their skin.” Her goal is not to become the biggest medical spa in town, but to improve one face at a time to maintain happy clients. Tulsans who have moved away call Olga when they are back

for a visit. Dozens of “thank you” messages on her Facebook page are further testament to how she has helped people look their best. Skin Ambitions Medical Spa

offers a wide variety of problemspecific facials that always begin with a European style massage. This gentle manipulation relaxes tight and drawn muscles in the

face that come from daily stress. As the skin is relaxed, the lines they form seem to disappear. The lymph vessels are stimulated to drain toxins from the facial area. Increased blood circulation oxygenates the cells that lead to a healthy glow. Clients love the way it feels, and it all takes place before any medical treatment is done.

The classic Royal Touch facial is recommended for many skin types. It features cleansing, an enzymatic scrub, steaming, gentle fruit exfoliation, extractions, antioxidant serum, moisturizing mask, and a shoulder, face and décolleté massage. Other facials address oily, blemish-prone skin, uneven and hyper-pigmented skin, sensitive skin and rosacea. There is a special treatment for any need. A teen facial purifies and soothes the skin while treating acne. A men’s deluxe facial is customized specifically to the needs of men’s skin. There are also treatments to brighten, nourish and hydrate dark circles, eye contours, crow’s feet and dry lips. All services that Olga and Natasha perform include the best medical grade products. Gift certificates are available, too. These expert treatments are kept at price points that are reasonably affordable. Monthly specials are posted on the website. For more information, contact
