Joe Marina Honda Express Service: No appointment necessary.
As firework stands across Green Country prepare for a blast on the 4th of July, American Heritage Bank is hard at work putting the finishing touches on the 17th annual fireworks show. With more than 15,000 of Sapulpa’s finest watching the show and listening to the live broadcast, it is sure to be the firework event of the season. “People look forward to seeing the show, and we work hard to give it to them” says Sarah McCormick, vice president and marketing director of American Heritage Bank. While it is true that many communities boast firework shows around our nation’s birthdate, American Heritage’s show in Sapulpa has been a crowd pleaser for 17 years with good reason. The fireworks presentation, provided by locally (continued on page 22)

There are four Draper Family GNC stores in the Metro-Tulsa area. The stores are: Tulsa Hills at Highway 75 & 71st Street; Woodland Corner at 71st & Memorial; The Shops at Broken Arrow at Highway 51 & Lynn Lane; and Smith Farm Shopping Center at Highway 169 & 96th Street in Owasso. The newest location is the Woodland Corner GNC which opened doors nearly two years ago. “The thing that really sets us apart from other supplement stores,” said Draper Family GNC Regional Sales
Manager Robb Winn, “is our customer service and our exclusive offerings of NDS products.” “Our stores are definitely different,” says Robb. “In addition to selling supplements, every store has a Certified Personal Trainer on staff. They offer free advice to customers about our supplements, diet and custom exercise programs.” Customers are surveyed to identify their personal goals, what they are currently doing, where and how frequently they workout, and how willing they are to commit to a
total program that will help them attain their goals. Again, the advice is free. The GNC staff wants to provide services to customers in every way possible in helping them attain health and fitness goals. “Customers have discovered that there’s even a difference in our multi-vitamins,” says Robb. If you’re interested in weight loss, you’ll want to get information about GNC’s Embrace Kit. Robb says there are three elements to any successful (continued on page 22)

EEarning Customer Trust Fowler Toyota of Tulsa Service Department is willing to listen. By Duane Blankenship Shane Wohl, Service Director for Fowler Toyota of Tulsa, has spent most of his 13 years in automotive service with a local Toyota dealership and with a dealership in Texas. “I’m really glad to be back in Tulsa with the Fowler Toyota of Tulsa operation,” he said. “This is a new group with lots of Toyota background and experience.” Shane got his start in the
automobile business when a cousin was working in sales at a local dealership. Looking for a job, Shane asked if he thought they might put him to work in their sales department. At the end of the year he was one of the store’s highest producers and won a nice vacation trip. One day he noticed a lady in tears coming from the service department. Asking if he could

help, she said she had lost a hubcap after having her tires rotated by the dealership and she had just been told they would not replace it. Making a quick decision, Shane took her to the parts department and gave her a hubcap. The problem was quickly and easily resolved. The next day, Shane was confronted by the service director who told him he had heard what had transpired. Instead of reprimanding him as expected, the service director asked Shane if he would come to work for him in the dealership’s service department. Shane knew he had solved a bad issue for the lady. He had earned her trust, made her happy, and retained her as a customer for the dealership. He enjoyed what he had done and continues to this day to exhibit that same good judgment with each customer opportunity he encounters. “I learned a long time ago that an upset customer is not really unhappy with me, but just with the situation. I am just the one currently available to listen to the customer’s concerns,” said Shane. “I sincerely believe a
customer when they come to me with a problem. I don’t think they will go that far out of their way unless they are truly unhappy or believe there is an issue that needs resolving.” Shane enjoys taking care of Fowler Toyota of Tulsa’s valuable customers and likes keeping them happy. Shane sees customer service as a give-and-take opportunity. He has a great personality and comes across as very genuine and sincere. “I’ve found that you need to treat people the same way you want and expect to be treated. And you’ve got to earn the respect of your customers,” he said. “If I respect you, you’re probably going to respect and trust me.” In addition to passing the rigorous Toyota Certification Program, most of Fowler’s technicians are also certified by the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE). They use state-of-the-art equipment and tools designed especially for your Toyota as well as genuine Toyota Parts that are designed to keep your vehicle working at Toyota's high-quality
levels. Shawn Replogle is Fowler Toyota of Tulsa’s service department shop foreman and is a Toyota master diagnostic technician…the highest level attainable. “All our employees want to work here,” says Shane. We have an obligation to our customers and inspect their vehicles each time they drive in for recommended maintenance or with a problem.” Shane sees the Fowler Toyota of Tulsa’s service team as wanting customers to feel a high comfort level and peace of mind with their service department. “We treat your car as if it were our own. We’re never going to try to sell you a product or service that we don’t believe will keep your vehicle running safer, better and longer,” he added. Shane Wohl and the Fowler Toyota of Tulsa’s service team want to win your trust. For more information, contact

Tulsa Herb Society, 25 Years and “Growing” An Evening with Patricia Lanza is planned for July 8th at the Tulsa Garden Center.
By Tina Lynn The Tulsa Herb Society is celebrating their 25th anniversary as a gardening society, therefore preparing for
another exciting, yet informative educational event. Preparations are well underway for An Evening with Patricia Lanza, July
Patricia Lanza, gardener and author.
8th from 7:00 pm – 8:30 pm at the TulsaGarden Center. Their free invitation to you includes an evening of garden exploration; where gardening enjoyment meets functionality. Originally from Crossville, Tennessee Patricia Lanza remembers what it was like to keep a garden by closely watching her grandparents’ garden in rocky, clay soil. She remembers how they rented a mule to plow in the spring then raked out the rows by hand. How they planted, watered and hoed weeds all summer. She also remembers the taste of fresh vegetables right from the garden: the flavor from red, juicy tomatoes, the taste of tender green beans and corn, indeed lots of corn picked by the apron full every day. Patricia Lanza began gardening just like her Tennessee grandparents, however by the time she was a grandmother she needed to garden a different way. She dealt with the same gardening conditions, rocky hardpan. It was there and then she discovered what she calls Lasagna Gardening; a method of
creating good soil without digging, tilling or weeding. It’s what keeps her in the garden today as she gardens near her original home where the soil is rock and clay. As a gardener and garden communicator, Patricia Lanza shares her knowledge as a writer, book author and public speaker with over twenty years’ experience. Her newest book, My Garden Doctor was published in 2009, a reprint of a book published in 1914 with a new forward and epilogue. Her other books include: Create Wonderful Gardens, Lasagna Gardening, Lasagna Gardening for Small Spaces, Lasagna Gardening with Herbs, My Grandmother's Aprons, and My Garden Doctor This year is very special for the Tulsa Herb Society; they are celebrating 25 years and growing! JoAnn White past President and charter member remembers, “The way I remember it, several of us wanted to "learn more." So, we started talking about a new herb society…” They discussed their plans with the then executive
director of the Tulsa Garden Center, who encouraged them to, "Go for it." Which they did and the rest is herbal history. Throughout the years THS has hosted speaker after speaker who have international appeal as horticulturalists, herbalists, historians and dig in the dirt gardeners. Each has brought knowledge to share not only for the novice gardener who just wants to feel the earth and reap solace, but for the seasoned professional horticulturist who yearns to gain new gardening prospective. Join the Tulsa Herb Society as they welcome this kindred spirit and knowledgeable gardener to Tulsa. The event is open to the public and reservations aren’t required.

By Stephanie Reed From the Australian outback to the Venezuelan jungles, World Outreach Church is committed to sharing the powerful truths of faith and healing. It is in this spirit that the church presents Summer Family Fun on July 13, 2013 from 11:00-1:00 PM. Located at World Outreach Church just east of Memorial off of 91st street, the day is meant to celebrate and help Tulsans who might need a little help and a little love. With a fun-filled fair atmosphere, children are sure to enjoy the inflatables, games, face painting, and clowns, while mom and dad can take advantage of free clothing, free household items, free oil changes and free haircuts. “We see so many people come in tentatively, not sure what they are walking into, but they know they need help. By the time they leave, they are smiling, overjoyed, and loved. That is what our work is about,” Hayne Schurz remarks. “We want to encourage everyone to come out, enjoy lunch on us. It is a totally free day that Tulsans can enjoy and benefit from.” Though most wouldn’t recognize it now with the lofty, modern architecture and abundance of flags decorating the campus, World Outreach Church had its humble
beginnings in 1998 in the gym at East Central High School auditorium. Though the building has evolved and the congregation has grown, the church’s guiding principles have not changed at all: Word, Spirit,World. Missions Pastor, Hayne Schurz describes the unique atmosphere as “based on the Word, but driven by the Spirit. This gives our services a certain type of freedom in structure that other churches may not have. While Pastors Mark and Janet Brazee always have a plan for the service; if they feel led in a particular direction, they go where their hearts lead them.” In fact, World Outreach Church is itself a product of where the Pastors’ hearts have led. Starting in the late 70’s, the Brazee’s traveled widely teaching at churches around the United States and overseas, particularly in Europe, where they hosted theological conferences and seminars. The two were content to live out of suitcases and only admired the dedication and drive that they encountered from Pastors bound to a single church. In the 1990’s the Brazee’s found themselves moved in a direction that they never anticipated. It was time to put their suitcases away, and plant
firm roots. These roots have evolved into World Outreach Church. Like the founders, the church is mission based, and the congregation of 750-1000 finds themselves fulfilled in spreading of the Word. With over 30 years in mission related work, Hayne Schurz has been associated with the pastors for 15 years; the first four spent as a missionary in Bangkok, Thailand. “We really work on all levels of missionary work” explains Hayne. “We have prayer groups, short term missionary travelers, long term missionaries, community outreach groups, etc. Our goal is to involve the entire congregation in spreading the Word, educating, and helping those in need both at home and around the world.” For more information on attendance or donations please visit the church website at www.woctulsa.org or call the church at 918-461-9628.

Health and Fitness Resources are Offered With Smiles and Convenience at Shakes Alive Wellness Lounge. Shakes Alive Wellness Lounge provides not only a full line of ViSalus products and a shake bar, but a headquarters for a team that provides a comprehensive support system for those looking to make a change in their health and fitness lifestyle.
By Christopher Davis As more Tulsans are getting serious about their health and fitness, Shakes Alive Wellness Lounge is becoming a hub for a growing community in search of support, information, activities and products. Located conveniently next to La Fortune Park, this new storefront is gaining popularity with the runners and joggers who can be seen from the large storefront windows. Led by owner Ivy Greathouse, Shakes Alive Wellness Lounge provides a headquarters for a team of health and fitness professionals. Michael Wyly, D.O., has practiced medicine in the Oklahoma for over 30 years. Marilyn Kelley, MPH, RD/LD, offers expertise and guidance on dietary and nutritional aspects. Ariane Betancourt facilitates Zumba classes on a regular schedule at the Wellness Lounge. Greathouse observes it is common for people to put off appointments with their regular doctor, so having a board certified physician and a
registered dietician on hand offers clients a convenient and trustworthy source of insight. With Zumba classes, a wellstocked shake bar and a full line of ViSalus products, Shakes Alive is not your typical shake shop. Describing the inspiration behind opening Shakes Alive, Ivy explains she was searching for a more effective approach to meeting her customers’ needs. While many are familiar with private parties held to sample ViSalus nutrition products, Ivy finds this model sometimes fails to meet the needs of both sales representatives and clients. Seeking a solution to this challenge, Ivy says they have established a place where their team can refer clients, “Our customers come in and take their time to learn what ViSalus stands for – which begins with health and prosperity.” She adds, “We want you to be able to financially afford something that is healthy and helps you lose weight.”
Ivy is quick to note, however, that ViSalus products and Shakes Alive Wellness Lounge can be helpful for all, no matter your goals. “Our products and services are for everyone it’s not just weight loss, it’s about nutrition. We are providing a place for people to show up and explore their options on their own schedule.” Between family, work and all the chaos in between, people who have made the decision to improve their health often face more fundamental challenges than simply making better food selections. Beyond scheduling concerns, sometimes people are intimidated about attending informational parties. “A person might feel shy or overwhelmed about their needs and concerns,” relates Ivy. “Having this shop allows people to relax and enjoy the experience so they can be sure to obtain all the information and support they need to meet their health and fitness goals.” And who wouldn’t be put at ease at Shakes Alive Wellness
Join the fun of losing weight and feeling great. (L to R): Ariane Betancourt, Zumba instructor and Ivy Greathouse, owner, along with Aaron, personal assistant, and customer Rita.
Lounge? The lounge is brightly colored and filled with natural light. A tidy shake bar runs the span of one side, offering plenty of space for friends to discuss nutritional benefits and fitness plans while sipping a shake. An impressive array of high-powered blenders, non-GMO fruits and dairy alternatives and ViSalus nutritional supplements line the countertops and wall. Sleek, inviting couches, chairs and café tables punctuate the spacious lounge, encouraging clients to take a moment to invest in their own health. The furniture is easily moved to transform the lounge into an activity room, where groups partake in Zumba or meet to discuss and track their progress toward meeting their
weight loss or fitness goals. Offering everything you need to take the first steps toward forging a new path, Shakes Alive Wellness Lounge invites you to stop in to meet their team and allow them to help you meet your health and fitness goals. WHY EYEWEAR CAN BE YOUR BEST VISION CORRECTION SOLUTION • Eyeglasses have no medical risk. • They need no special solutions. Common dishwashing liquid and water is all that is needed to maintain cleanliness and clear vision. • Eyeglasses will not cause eye infections. • Progressive lenses correct vision in all three primary visual fields, (a) distance (b) near (c) the intermediate zone which is important for computer users. Lined Tri-Focals can do the same. • Since the eyeglasses sit in a fixed position, they correct for astigmatism more effectively than contact lenses which require counterweights or prism ballasts to position the lenses axially. • Eyewear blocks incoming objects which can permanently damage the cornea, eyelids and other structures of the eye. (The Wiley X Sealed Eye Cavity eyewear blocks wind, dust and smoke and can help those with Dry Eye Syndrome.) • Eyeglasses and quality sunglasses block the dangerous UV rays A / B / C and HEV (high energy visible) which have been proven to cause cataracts, macular degeneration and eye cancers. Polarized lenses block blinding glare, making for safer driving. • Eyewear makes for a classy fashion statement and in many cases hide flaws like crows feet, dark circles and droopy eyelids. There are two basic philosophies in frame selection of which the minimalist is the first one. Others find that color and contrast can actually enhance their appearance more than the minimalist look.
THE “MAGIC FORMULA” FOR LOVING YOUR EYEWEAR AGAIN • QUIT chasing BOGO, DEALS, INTERNET SPECIALS and the like. Your chances of getting a great fit with these is slim, dim and nearly impossible. Insurance shouldn’t dictate how and where you get your glasses. • Anti-reflection coat is absolutely essential to increase light transmission and eliminate surface reflection glare. • No two people are identical. Face shapes, RX’s, ear locations, and other factors differ from one individual to another. Tastes, lifestyles and desires are different and DEMAND PERSONALIZED ATTENTION TO DETAILS. This means eyewear is one of the most Customized and Personalized items you will ever own. • You need an OPTICIAN to help you with the selection, measurement, and fitting of your eyewear after an Opthalmologist or Optometrist performs the eye exam. (I am an optician, my role is like that of a pharmacist for the doctor who examined your eyes.) Accuracy and attention to detail are required to get you that great fit, along with continuing service and adjustments to keep them maintained.

AAdd Long-lasting Quality to Your Home Consolidated Builders Supply specializes in serving homeowners with quality products at builder prices. By Duane Blankenship Consolidated Builders Supply began operations in Oklahoma City 27 years ago and have done business in Tulsa for five years. Consolidated caters to builders and remodelers, but their specialty is supplying quality, well known and proven windows, doors and vinyl siding to homeowners at builder prices. General Manager Mark Crowl and Sales Manager Bill Price head up Consolidated Builders Supply Tulsa, located at 51st and Sheridan. The full-
service company is owned and operated by native Okies and with their own installation crews. “We specialize in turnkey projects,” said Mark, “and quotes on your project are free.” You’ll find a sense of assurance with the product names, features and benefits you’ll find at Consolidated. One of the respected names you’ll find at Consolidated is Marvin Windows and Doors. Mark says, “Marvin products offer total value through and

through with a philosophy of doing things the right way.” Marvin products are made to order with no shortcuts in materials or quality. “It’s this unwavering philosophy,” says Mark, “that makes Marvin a quality manufacturer with an earned reputation.” Marvin began manufacturing in 1912. They still take pride in producing excellent design features as they tirelessly continue pursuing new ways to enhance the performance of their products. Consolidated also showrooms the natural beauty of Rogue Valley Doors, possibly the largest manufacturer of wood doors in the United States. Rogue Valley calls the raindrenched forests of Southern Oregon home and most of their employees grew up there with an undeniable appreciation for the land. They take pride in the state’s natural resources paired with what they consider to be the world’s best craftsmen. And they passionately adhere to strict, sustainable, green harvesting practices. Although you may custom order your Rogue Valley door and select the wood species, many standard sizes of the doors listed in their catalog
are in stock and ready for immediate shipment. Other beautiful doors offered by Consolidated Builders Supply are forged iron doors by Complex Industries. The company believes that a beautiful home deserves a stunning door as its focal point. “A door can set a first impression with guests,” said Bill, “and it will, hopefully, create a feeling of warmth, style and elegance.” Complex uses quality materials for insulating and finishing their products and all construction is done by hand by skilled craftsmen with finished products that are truly works of art. General Aluminum (GA) window products carried by Consolidated are all vinyl, prime residential windows that meet or exceed new energy codes. They provide both beauty and performance while also offering great value. The GA 7000 Series all vinyl windows enhance the appearance of your home outside while increasing comfort inside. And they reduce energy use. Consolidated carries a full line of Heartland Siding by ProVia offering numerous product styles, colors and textures
that are sure to enhance the appearance of any home. Heartland Siding offers a Color-Keeper TM Anti-Fade Protection Guarantee. “Their vinyl siding product also reflects heat away from exterior walls and deflects damaging infrared solar rays,” said Mark. Bill reminds you to be sure to look for the Energy-Star rating whenever you shop at Consolidated. “Most all of our quality windows, doors, and vinyl siding products will bear the Energy-Star Seal,” he says. It’s almost impossible to describe the beauty and function of the door, window and vinyl siding products and their benefits available from Consolidated. You really need to stop by and see it for yourself. And when you’re near ready to start your project, ask Mark or Bill to provide a turnkey quote for the job. For more information, contact

According to Eileen Neighbors, marketing director at Tulsa Promenade Mall, “The event is designed to help seniors and their families meet local experts and gather information that will help older adults lead more active, independent and healthier lives. The aging services network in Tulsa is vast and can be somewhat confusing. Hopefully, we’ll be able to help families have a better understanding of senior programs and services and how to access them.” The event is sponsored by Tulsa Promenade Mall and LIFE Senior Services, a non-profit United Way organization that serves more than 25,000 seniors and family caregivers each year, providing information, education and services that help older adults retain their independence, dignity and quality of life. Celebrating its 40th anniversary this summer, LIFE offers a full array of programs for seniors and family caregivers, including Senior Centers, Adult Day Services, Case Management, Vintage Housing, Caregiver Support, and SeniorLine Information and Assistance. Rhema Lights the Way for Independence Day Rockets Over Rhema celebrates 10 years with special tribute, outdoor activities and huge fireworks display.
By Christopher Davis On Sunday, June 30, Rhema Bible Church will present Rockets Over Rhema, a special celebration for the entire family. Admission is free and the public is invited to come. Rockets Over Rhema has been hosted on the beautiful 110-acre Rhema campus since 2003 and features one of the area’s biggest and best fireworks displays. More than 55,000 people attended Rockets Over Rhema 2012. This year marks the event’s 10-year anniversary, so you definitely don’t want to
miss out! Beginning at 5:00 p.m. visitors will enjoy a patriotic tribute in the Rhema Bible
Church Auditorium as we celebrate our nation’s freedom. At 6:00 p.m., the outdoor activities start. Children will have fun bouncing and sliding on the inflatable games and getting fancied up at the face painting booths set up around the campus. The young (and young at heart) can test their ability to hang on to a mechanical bull and scale a rock-climbing wall. If you’re more into looking than participating, stroll through the car show featuring antique vehicles, custom-built hot rods, race cars, and motorcycles. All the excitement can make a person hungry. If your stomach starts growling, there will be plenty of concessions to enjoy. Backyard Burger will be cooking up some of the best hot dogs, hamburgers, and corn dogs you’ve ever tasted. Plus, we’ll have funnel cakes, popcorn, cotton candy, and snow cones galore! A number of great sponsors will have booths and tents set up in Rockets Over Rhema’s sponsor row. Some will offer free prizes and giveaways.
We’ve got your like no one else. The area’s only physician-directed Accu-SPINA™ treatment.
The concert will begin around 6:30 p.m. with music the entire family can enjoy from Christian artists Fireflight, Jenny Simmons, The Royal Royal, Fight the Fade, and the Synergy Worship Band. Around 10:00 p.m. the performers will finish and the pop, pop, Ba-BOOMs of the grand finale will start. Grab a blanket or lawn chair or just sit on the grass and ooh and aah at one of the largest fireworks displays in the Tulsa/Broken Arrow area.
Schedule of Events 5:00 p.m. Patriotic Tribute 6:00 p.m. Outdoor Activities Begin 6:30 p.m. Outdoor Concert 10:00 p.m. Fireworks Begin

RRegain Your Footing Dr. Ronald S. LaButti helps patient regain his quality of life. By Sara Dale The activity level of Toby Jenkins, Executive Director of Oklahomans for Equality, is leaps and bounds above what it once was. And, he happily attributes most of the credit to Tulsa orthopedic surgeon, Ron LaButti, D.O. Jenkins, 53, had always enjoyed an active and athletic lifestyle. Yet, this all took an unexpected turn (or downhill slide) five years ago. As Executive Director of Oklahomans for Equality (OkEq), Jenkins coordinates the organization’s large-scale annual events including the Tulsa Pride Festival. As in years past, the 2008 festival featured a multitude of attractions, including an obstacle course for the kids. “The obstacle course included a huge slide,” Jenkins says. “All was going well until one of the little girls had gone to the top of the slide, but refused to come down; so, I went up to retrieve her.” As Jenkins and the little girl descended down the 14-foot slide, she suddenly planted her foot in the middle of it, sending them both into a frightening
freefall. “My first reaction was to try to protect her from the fall by bundling her up like a ball,” Jenkins says. Fortunately, the little girl didn’t sustain any injuries. Yet, the same could not be said of Jenkins. The treacherous fall left him with torn ligaments in his left leg and knee -- and as would soon become evident -- a painful condition that continued to worsen and obliterate his immobility and active way of life. Prior to Jenkins’ accident, his routine had included daily five-mile runs along Riverside Drive. In addition, his position as OkEq’s Executive Director frequently entailed a demanding, active schedule, plus a fair share of travel. “As time went on, the pain became more excruciating. I also started gaining a lot of weight since exercising was out of the question,” Jenkins says. “I couldn’t walk very far, sleep very well, go up or down stairs or even kneel at church during communion. In addition to the constant pain, my entire left leg often became numb after sitting for any period of time.”
Happy Turn of Events Life is full of unexpected twists and turns, and one for which Toby Jenkins is most pleased is meeting orthopedic surgeon, Dr. Ron LaButti. “From the start, Dr. LaButti’s ‘no nonsense’ and upfront approach was very refreshing,” Jenkins says. “After running tests and thoroughly examining my left leg, he told me exactly what he thought and did his best to steer me away from the most severe and expensive treatments. Plus, throughout it all, his staff was incredibly nice and helpful in every way.” In January of this year, Dr. LaButti administered cortisone injections into Jenkins’ left knee, as well as prescribed ongoing physical therapy sessions. “Choosing the treatment that is right for each individual patient is a very important ecision,” Dr. LaButti says. “I felt Toby was too young to undergo surgery at this time and was an ideal candidate for a less invasive approach. It’s been so gratifying
Toby Jenkins enjoys an active lifestyle after being treated by Dr. LaButti. to see the ‘new and pain-free’ Toby jump back into his former active lifestyle with both feet!”
To put it into perspective, after one of our events a year ago last spring, I was in horrible pain and couldn’t move for three days. After this year’s gala event, I felt great. In fact, I felt so good I’m sure I could’ve danced all night!”
Footloose and Pain-Free Today, Toby Jenkins is 39 pounds lighter and continues to celebrate personal landmarks. “It’s made a tremendous difference in my life,” he says. “I’m walking five miles every morning, getting down on the ground to play with my grandchildren, and handling huge OkEq events with plenty of energy to spare.

Want to Recapture Your Mojo? RESULTS Medical Spa promotes health, beauty and weight loss through science.
By Duane Blankenship Laura Bilbruck, M.D., is the Medical Director of RESULTS Medical Spa, one of the Metro Tulsa’s newest and most comprehensive full-service medical and wellness spas. She received her Medical Degree from the University of Oklahoma Medical School and has devoted her practice to the art of cosmetic and wellness medicine. “We see our practice as a one-stop shop for helping women and men recapture their mojo and regain their vitality,” she said. “Most women spend a lifetime focusing on the needs of others. We think there’s a time in every woman’s life when she develops a deserved desire to shift at least some of her focus to herself and that’s what we’re all about.” If you find yourself at a point in your life where you don’t look or feel like you thought you would at this stage of the game, Dr. Bilbruck believes you should do something about it. If you’re overweight and desire a different body, RESULTS knows they can help you attain impressive results in a short time. “A lot of a woman’s power comes from her sexuality and beauty,” says Dr. Bilbruck, “and if you’re not
where you expected to be, reinvent yourself.” Dr. Bilbruck has been a physician for 17 years and in private practice for 13 of those years. RESULTS Medical Spa is the state-of-the-art facility within the Medical Office Building of the St. John Hospital Complex in Broken Arrow where Dr. Bilbruck has devoted her practice to the art of cosmetic and wellness medicine. About a year ago, Dr. Bilbruck teamed with Olga Arnold who earned her Medical Degree from Tver Medical Academy in Tver, Russia, in 1991. Ms. Arnold also possesses a Ph.D. in Communicable Disease Transmission from Moscow Medical Academy of Post-Graduate Education. “Olga is absolutely one of the best ever in her field of expertise,” said Dr. Bilbruck, “and I’m really fortunate to have her on my team. She has the experience, the talent and the brain power that have so positively contributed to our success.” Results Medical Spa has several specialties that combine to facilitate the development of an entire wellness and beauty package for any individual…both
male and female. “Our weight loss and system cleansing detoxification programs have been phenomenal,” says Dr. Bilbruck. “We are dedicated to restoring our patients’ vitality and energy, both through aesthetic procedures and products as well as through diet and wellness programs. We believe that RESULTS is where looking
Page 19

Rock Out with the Tulsa Rock & Mineral Society The Tulsa Rock and Mineral Society is hosting their largest showcase of the year at Expo Square Exchange Cetner on July 13 and 14.
By Christopher Davis The Tulsa Rock and Mineral Society have been in existence since 1958. The nonprofit organization’s mission is to promote interest in rocks, minerals, gem stones, fossils, artifacts, jewelry-making and earth science. These rock and mineral enthusiasts provide educational and participatory workshops, organize rock, gem stone and jewelry shows, and foster a helping and teaching environment to connect newcomers with longtime rock hounds. Members facilitate workshops for young and old, alike, and focus on ways to educate the public and spark interest in rocks and minerals. Lapidary workshops (“lapidary” refers to cutting, polishing or engraving precious stones) are held regularly at ORU facilities every week, and the TRMS put on demonstrations events year round. Some popular demonstrations include flint knapping (creating stone tools, such as arrowheads, by hand) and grinding and polishing marbles from quartz, ruby, etc.
Finis Riggs (longtime TRMS member) has built his own marble machine, and frequently displays them at shows. “It’s a fun hobby,” says Ben Thomas, who has been a member of the TRMS for about five years, “we try to focus on education and get the kids interested in fossils and geodes and jewelry, and also emphasize conservation of the environment.” Thomas points out the importance of getting young ones outside and encouraging them to appreciate nature’s beauty. By explaining the processes that form fossils, minerals, gem stones and geodes, and showcasing the beautiful works of art and jewelry created from these stones, children are inspired to unplug from TV and video
games a little more often and step outside and explore the world surrounding them. Some of the rock and mineral samples frequently on display include fossils. These ancient impressions, left behind by bones of animals or plants, provide an awe-inspiring window into the distant past. Petrified wood is a common find at these shows, and the variety of shapes, sizes and colors might cause one to second guess whether or not the material in front of them was, actually, wood. Another fun type of fossil to view, especially for children, is called coprolite. Essentially, coprolite is fossilized feces. Never fear, parents! These droppings, left behind by dinosaurs, mammals or birds were transformed to stone epochs ago, and are much more like petrified wood or geodes than anything you might avoid in the yard. On July 13th and 14th, the Tulsa Rock and Mineral Society will be hosting their largest educational event of the year. Located at Expo Square, the Rock, Mineral, Fossil and
Jewelry Show will feature some of the finest collections and plenty of workshops and displays. “This show is our premier showcase for the Rock and Mineral Society,” notes Finis Riggs, longtime member of the TRMS, “there will be a lot at the show that most people have never even seen before. We will have twenty-five of the top dealers in the nation showing their collections and selling artifacts, fossils, gem stones, geodes and quality hand-made jewelry.” This last item, fine jewelry, cannot be stressed enough. “Many folks don’t realize the gorgeous jewelry available at our shows,” Mr. Riggs says. Artists make jewelry by hand, and incorporate silver, turquoise, rubies, zircon, emeralds, crystals, agate and just about any other substance found in the earth.
Finis Riggs shows off his marble machine and invites everyone to explore rocks and minerals with the TRMS on July 13th and 14th at Expo Square Exchange Center.

and cream cheese. Add powdered sugar and fold in Cool Whip. After the cake is completely cooled, cut each through the middle so you end up with 4 layers(or you can just leave it at 2 layers, doesn't make any difference, really). If you decide to cut them, putting the cake in the freezer for 10-15 mins helps it stay firm and not so crumbly when you cut. Spread a good amount of the filling on top, staying about 1" from the edge. You will have plenty to put a good amount of filling on each layer. Once cake is layered and filling on, frost entire cake with the milk chocolate frosting. This cake is a great chocolate cake and the filling is wonderful, you have enough left over to do another lol. This is a quick new favorite. Enjoy! - Submitted by Amanda T.
Dash of cayenne pepper Remove husks from corn and grill over medium heat for 10 minutes. The corn should have some brown spots and be tender and not mushy. Cut the corn off the cob then scrape the cob with the back of your knife to get the juices. Set aside and let cool. Slice the tomatoes in half. Dice the avocado and chop the cilantro. HONEY LIME DRESSING Add all the dressing ingredients in a small bowl and whisk to combine. Set aside. Combine the sliced tomatoes, avocado, cilantro and grilled corn and honey lime dressing and mix gently so everything is evenly coated. Be careful not to mash the avocados. Let the salad sit for 10-15 minutes to let flavors mingle. Enjoy. - Submitted by Jessi.

A Personal Plan For Health and Fitness continued from page 1 plan…diet/nutrition, exercise, and supplements. Your GNC Sales Representative will formulate a plan suggesting how to exercise, how often you need to do it, a custom nutrition approach just for you, and when and how to take recommended supplements. The Embrace Kit and a custom-tailored program has appeal to both men and women, young and “old,” and Robb says he has customers who have lost over 100 lbs. on their plans. Many men coming in for the first time have complained that they are restless and don’t sleep well, they are tired, have a basic lack of energy, and are interested in boosting testosterone levels. “Men who feel that their energy levels are substandard have seen outstanding results from our NDS Flex Stack products. And again, both the Embrace Kit and the Flex Stack are exclusive to Draper Family stores,” said Robb. You pay for the products, but the consultations with Certified Personal Trainers and their customized plans are free. Robb says he has customers that have been coming to Draper GNC stores each month for years. They continually get their conditioning, progress, and fitness program analyzed and revised to help them attain the next level of conditioning and improved health. Free advice is usually worth what you paid for it, but in this case it is definitely a value-added customer service package available only from Draper Family GNC’s. “We are
heavy in nutrition knowledge and that’s really important,” said Robb. “We know what’s available on the market and we share with our customers what we know works and what does not.” If you think you may be interested in visiting with a Draper Family GNC Certified Personal Trainer, drop by one of their conveniently located stores in the Tulsa area. When you’re there tell them you’re interested in receiving some free samples to try for a couple of days. Most patrons have been amazed at the measurable improvement and energy boost they have felt immediately. “It’s never too late to begin improving your health,” said Robb. Visit the GNC location nearest you this week and find out what they can do to help you map out your personal plan for success.

New Fireworks Featured SSpectalur at the Castle The Castle of Muskogee offers 37,000 square feet of high-quality fireworks. By Renee Profitt The Castle of Muskogee, Oklahoma’s 37,000-square-foot fireworks showroom keeps working to improve everyone’s enjoyment on the Fourth. Although the Castle of Muskogee has always guaranteed all fireworks to light, the new, higher quality means no disappointments on the Fourth. “A new ‘look’ in fireworks for 2013 is the Big Top, a six row show with alternating red, white and blue tails to red, white
and blue stars with finale of cracling stars in 42 shots! Pearly Gates with pink and green glitter, crackling tails and whistles in 29 shots. The American Chief with crackling and blue goes through 10 different displays before ending in stars and double spinners. Other items that have never been seen in Oklahoma include: Wicked Cool, Glory Honor Power, Booby Trap, Phat Fire, Pyrotechnics Princess, Jesters

Joke, Vampire’s Blood and 23 more! For better safety, the Castle joined the American Fireworks Standards Laboratory several years ago. AFSL is an independent testing organization that inspects fireworks before they leave China to assure safety. All fireworks, of course, must also pass inspection by the Consumer Product Safety Commission once they get to the United States. The new inspections procedures have resulted in a dramatic decrease in fireworks-related incidents in the U.S., even though fireworks imports have increased by many tons! The quantity and selection this year at the Castle must be seen to be believed: imagine a football field covered with fireworks as high as you can reach all under one roof, and you’ll get an idea of what awaits you in Muskogee. The Castle, of course, is air conditioned, with accessible restrooms and plenty of paved parking at the door. The annual fireworks sale lasts from June 15 through July 6. Hours are: June 15–30,
10 a.m. to 9 p.m.; July 1–4, 9 a.m. to 10 p.m.; and July 5-6, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. The Castle of Muskogee has fireworks to please anyone, with prices for every budget. There are fireworks for smaller children plus more than 400 items for teens and adults including the largest selection in America of heavyweight and multi-action displays. Select from many versions of specially-priced Family Packs to get the most bang for your buck. Over a quarter-million people visit the Castle each year for a variety of events including the Oklahoma Renaissance Festival, Haunted Castle, Christmas Kingdom, plus many weddings, private and corporate events. When you can shop in a Castle, why shop anywhere else?

BBringing the Past Full Circle
Tulsa’s only nonprofit and art-house movie theatre celebrates 85 years in the Tulsa community. By Justin Johnson Mark your calendar to celebrate the Circle Cinema’s 85th birthday on July 15. The weekend of July 11-14 is packed with festivities and events fit for all ages to recognize the Circle Cinema’s birthday and to highlight the grand re-opening of the original cinema building at 10 S. Lewis Ave. The Circle Cinema has been a staple for the film industry in the Tulsa community, and is the city’s only nonprofit and independent movie theater. Throughout its 85 years in operation, the Circle Cinema is thankful to remain a relevant and appreciated foundation to the community it serves. “As we look back on our 85 years within the community, the Circle Cinema wants to tell the people of Tulsa, ‘Thank you,’” said Cofounder Clark Wiens. “We are planning to pull out all the stops to make this a memorable weekend for lovers of film in Tulsa.” If you are looking for a family-oriented, fun-packed event, don’t miss the Circle Cinema
festivities through July 11-14. This event will be enjoyable for all ages. The festivities will include appearances of Oklahoma legends featured on the Circle Cinema Walk of Fame, live music, and select screenings. The celebration will feature the grand re-opening of the original cinema building. Instead of opting for a contemporary theater renovation, the Circle Cinema decided to combine the tradition of the past with today’s technology. In doing so, the Circle Cinema exterior will be an identical facade of the original 1952 design combined with the conveniences of modern technology. “When the renovation process began, the goal was to bring the Circle Cinema’s look and feel back to its peak in the 1950s. This latest project does just that,” said Wiens. “We have been eagerly anticipating the day we could let the public experience the Circle Cinema at its best.” The theater originally opened July 15, 1928 with a showing of “Across the Atlantic”
starring Monte Blue. Cost of construction was $62,000 which would be around $800,000 with today’s money. The Circle Theater was popular with the pre-teen and young teenage crowd. The 10-cent price of a movie ticket included a feature film and serials. Popular film serials like “The Green Hornet” drew the neighborhood children to the movie theater as often as the feature films. The feature highlights many famous Oklahoman’s that have been influential in the film industry. The likes of Brad Pitt, Chuck Norris, Reba McEntire, Kristen Chenoweth, Joan Crawford and Will Rogers are just a handful of hall of famers who once called Oklahoma home. The Circle Cinema Foundation’s mission is to use film to foster understanding and appreciation of the diversity of the human experience, and create community among the viewers in the restored historic Circle Cinema. The Circle

Cinema showings feature a variety of independent, foreign and documentary films. The facility itself consists of four separate viewing quarters; the Circle, Circle 1, Circle 2 and the theatre with the most intimate seating, the Quad.

there will be a donation box at the door. The food court will offer tasty Cajun food at affordable prices—come early and spend the day enjoying the delicious food, wonderful entertainment and shopping with talented arts & crafts vendors and dancing to the beat of the Cajun music. Jana Jae, founder of Grand Lake Festivals, Inc. will join the most sought after Cajun band in the U.S. Chris Miller and “Bayou Roots” will take their audience back to the musical roots of early Creole "la-la" music and stretch forward toward the more modern sounds of Zydeco with a bluesy chromatic accordion and saxophone speaking the language of swamp-pop. These exciting and energetic musicians seek to honor the roots of their music’s tradition by extending the reach of new and creative musical branches. Jana Jae will add a little country fiddling,

Clint Walker will also join Jana and Bayou Roots with a large variety of music ranging from Country, Southern Rock, R & B, Pop and Blues. His vocal range is astounding as he sings low baritone style songs to the very impressive high vocal stylings of Roy Orbison and Vince Gill. Arts, crafts and food vendors will be participating, assuring everyone of a choice that will suit them, from beautifully hand crafted jewelry to Native American art, along with the best Cajun food this
