Join the Broken Arrow Main Street Merchants Association on Thursday, November 14 from 6 to 9 p.m. in the Rose District for the Holiday Tea Off. Coinciding with the completion of major renovations to the Rose District, the Holiday Tea Off celebrates its 20th year. Unlike most other methods of fat reduction, CoolSculpting involves no needles, no anesthesia, no surgery and no downtime. of Quality GGenerations Service and Jewels Moody’s Jewelry celebrates 69 years in business with their Anniversary Sale. By Duane Blankenship

Moody’s Jewelry, established in 1944, is celebrating their 69th anniversary. According to Thomas Stoltzner, manager of Moody’s at Aspen and Kenosha in Broken Arrow, “Moody’s was actually founded by chance by Ernest Moody Jr. when he was only 19 years old.” Mr. Moody and his

parents moved from Tulsa to a small northeastern Oklahoma town and launched a laundry service. With the Great Depression, the business floundered and ultimately closed. After moving back to Tulsa, Ernest was only 14 when his father died. “While in high school, Ernest pulled a wagon though

neighborhoods picking up laundry for his mother to wash,” said Stoltzner. “Not a booming business, but it did bring in a few pennies a day to help put food on the table.” Mrs. Moody sent Ernest to Gilmore’s Repair Shop on North Lewis Avenue when the family’s alarm clock stopped working. “The clock needed a 50-cent spring to put it back in working order. To pay for the repair, young Moody was offered a parttime job by Mr. Cupples, owner and repairman at Gilmore’s,” said Stoltzner. Young Moody actually repaired his own clock, the beginning of a learning process that taught him the watch repair trade that he came to love. Moody was stricken with tuberculosis at the age of 17 and received experimental treatment at a U.S. Army Hospital in Colorado. During his 18-month recovery, he and a roommate did watch repair while in the hospital. After defeating TB,

Moody returned to Tulsa to finish his education at Rogers High School. He received word that he had qualified for an engineering scholarship that would have enabled him to move into the new technology field of television, for which he had great interest. He rushed to work to inform Mr. Cupples. Upon arriving, Mr. Cupples informed Moody that he was moving out of state to assist an ailing family member and that he would like to sell the clock repair business to Moody. “With just $106 that had been saved by his mother for Ernest, Moody made the offer,” said Stoltzner. “With a handshake, Mr. Cupples said, ‘“Sold!”’ The shop’s name was changed to Moody’s Time Service, and gems were later added to the inventory. Ernest Moody’s business has survived and prospered for nearly 70 years. Today the company has seven locations. The original Moody’s store still operates at 12th and Harvard. Before Stoltzner began employment at Moody’s, he took his daughter to dance lessons each week at Kenosha and Aspen. He would relax at Blimpie’s during the dance session and was always impressed with traffic flow at the intersection. Four years later, the Blimpie’s location became available. Stoltzner said Ernest Moody III had

shown interest in opening a store in Broken Arrow. When he shared his feelings about the Blimpie’s location, Moody said, “Let’s do it.” With an outstanding history of quality, Moody’s Jewelry invites you to join them in celebrating their 69 years in business with their Anniversary Sale. “Every item in the store is sale priced,” said Stoltzner. Moody’s is the main sponsor of the 2013 Buy Broken Arrow campaign. Moody’s features quality lines including the Angelica Diamond, a 90-faceted diamond exclusive to Moody’s; Luminox, Seiko, Tissot, Bulova and Fossil watches; and Henri Daussi New York Bridal Rings, also exclusive to Moody’s. “Every time you make a purchase at Moody’s,” says Stoltzner, “part of the purchase price goes to one of the over 66 local charities supported by Moody’s. Over the years, we are proud to have donated millions of dollars to Tulsa charities.” Please stop by and say hello to Thomas and his staff at the Moody’s Broken Arrow store. PProtect Your Roof from Winter Woes Is your home prepared to defend against the elements? Do right by your home and call Dun-Rite Roofing.

By Christopher Davis

Green Country is known for extreme weather. Temperatures range from “hot as lava” to “Antarctic,” and the wind can transform a neighborhood to a twisted mess of branches. The roof of our home is our shield against such dynamic weather. DunRite Roofing provides the strategy, resources and manpower to fortify your home against the forces of nature. Dun-Rite Roofing’s headquarters are in Owasso. They primarily service Tulsa and the surrounding area, but will travel all over the state. If you live in Green Country and you need a dependable

crew to repair or replace your roof, then do right by your home and call Dun-Rite. Jim Murr started his company back in 1992. Back then, he was leading a single, small crew who did new construction jobs for local builders. It was not long before his team built a reputation for doing quality re-roofs and repairs. Today, Murr commands a small army of roofing warriors whose mission is to ensure your home is protected from the elements. Tornadoes, lightning, ice storms – we are troopers when it comes to surviving the most challenging weather

patterns. We’ve seen the cars that, after a minutes-long hailstorm, look like they drove through a warzone. What many of us do not stop to consider, Murr points out, is how this battle with nature affects our own homes. Sometimes, the toll is immediately noticeable: a tree falls onto your roof. More often, a roof suffers critical damage that goes unnoticed until it is too late. “All it takes is for a fallen branch to break through or a small patch of shingles to blow off during a storm,” cautions Murr. Heat can cause a problem, too, warping shingles and allowing space

for rain to infiltrate. “Once there is a way for the rain to seep down, underneath the shingles, it can get bad quickly,” he says. After a brutal summer bookended by tornado seasons, there is ample opportunity for even new roofs to become compromised. Minor damage to a rooftop can be easily exploited by an Oklahoma winter. Murr explains it is common for moisture underneath the shingles to wreak havoc on roofs as soon as the frigid season arrives. The water freezes, beginning a cycle of expansion and cracking in the shingles and wood. If left unchecked, water spreads throughout the roof or leaks into walls. In unlucky cases, one bad downpour can damage far more than roofing, ruining electrical wiring, appliances or floors in your house. The best defense against this scenario is vigilant attention and proper maintenance of the roof shingles and vunderlying structure. Dun-Rite helps guard against these threats by providing superior inspection and experienced, professional repair service. They can explain the benefits and

weaknesses of various shingles and materials, taking budget, aesthetics and energy conservation into consideration. The team is prepared to take on virtually any project, and can suggest significant upgrades to your roof, too. Recently, Dun-Rite added gutter systems to their list of products. If you find yourself in need of a new roof, the time is never better to add on rain gutters for extra protection and convenience. “Most projects are completed in a single day,” says Murr, assuring customers that DunRite is committed to saving you time and providing excellent service. Most of us think the sound of rain beating down on the rooftop is soothing, and don’t expect it to lead to disaster. Make sure your roof brings you peace of mind, not a headache. Call Dun-Rite Roofing to ensure that when it rains, it doesn’t pour.

PPutting the Wing in Swing

The Commemorative Air Force Spirit of Tulsa Squadron hosts a full day and evening of fun on November 9 with Wings Over Tulsa and the Big Band Hangar Dance.

By Christopher Davis

Who doesn’t get a thrill from the roar of an engine inside a World War II era combat plane? Just the view alone is enough to give one goose bumps. The history, the emotion, the honor associated with the era can be overwhelming. How often does a person get the chance to see one of these planes up close? How often does one get a chance to actually ride in a 70-year-old open-cockpit aircraft? You can do all of this and more, while supporting one of the most interesting nonprofit organizations around – the Commemorative Air Force. Mark your calendars for Saturday, November 9 and plan on attending the CAF Spirit of Tulsa Squadron’s Wings Over Tulsa and the 12th annual Big Band Hangar Dance at RL Jones airport. The Commemorative Air Force’s main objective is the acquisition, restoration and preservation of combat aircraft. While much of what they do in restoring aircraft happens behind the scenes in hangars and workshops, the CAF’s diligence in preservation and education yields some highly visible and appreciated results.

Jim Mills and Bob Prater with a WWII-era Fairchild PT-19.

As keeper of many restored combat aircraft, the CAF participates in air shows across the country. The Spirit of Tulsa Squadron is no different, and proudly shows its World War II era Fairchild PT-19 around the region. When not travelling to air shows and museums, the plane sees flight time in Tulsa, where it takes passengers on educational tours and honor flights. The CAF honors combat veterans by providing flights in the very planes they have restored. “Some of these

veterans are in their 90s,” says Jim Mills, CAF public relations volunteer. “It is important to us to give something back to our veterans, and this is our way of saying thanks,” added CAF Spirit of Tulsa Squadron Unit Leader Bob Prater. A flight in a World War II era PT-19 is not reserved exclusively for veterans. The CAF sells flight tickets to the general public as a fundraiser. Tickets generally cost $85 for adults and children 12 and older. This month, the public

will have a special opportunity to ride in the PT19 and support the CAF. On Saturday, November 9, the CAF Spirit of Tulsa Squadron will hold its biggest event of the year with a full day of activities. The day kicks off with Wings Over Tulsa. From 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., the Spirit of Tulsa Squadron will provide free honor flights for WWII veterans and rides to the public (with purchase of flight ticket). There will also be plenty of exhibits featuring vintage WWII memorabilia, military vehicles, model aircraft and more. Attendees are invited to tour the facility, learn about the history of aircrafts and vehicles, and bid in a silent auction. Daytime admission for Wings Over Tulsa is free for all ages. As the afternoon wraps up, attendees will move into the hangar, officially kicking off the 12th annual Big Band Hangar Dance. A buffet dinner, prepared by Catering Connection, will run from 5 to 6 p.m. Following dinner, the festivities begin, including free swing dance lessons between 6 and 7 p.m. provided by Tulsa Oklahoma Swing Syndicate (TOSS).

At 7 p.m. the JROTC color guard will lead a salute to veterans, after which the 18-piece Sounds of Music Orchestra will take the stage and fill the hangar with 1940s-era music throughout the evening. The evening will be a perfect opportunity to dust off your dancing shoes – or try out some of the new moves taught by TOSS. The Big Band Hangar Dance has become a favorite amongst swing dancers, with several troupes attending every year from around the country. “We’ve been told by swing dancers that our dance is one of their favorites,” says Bob Prater. Recommended attire is casual, military or vintage. No matter how you dress, come prepared for an evening full of fun, music and history. With a powerful 18-piece orchestra and vintage aircraft and vehicles providing the backdrop for the evening, this event promises a night full of memories. There will be great opportunities for photographs and a chance to pick up some vintage memorabilia at the PX, Vintage Store and the silent auction – all for the worthy cause of preserving our history and educating the public.

GGet Cash Fast and Easy Let Rogers County Pawn provide you a short-term loan for your holiday shopping needs.

By Cassie Woods

Rogers County Pawn is a locally owned pawn shop specializing in short-term collateralized cash loans on most items of value. It’s also a great place to find exceptional deals on new and pre-owned quality merchandise. Located on Highway 20 just east of Claremore, it has made getting fast loans, offering quality merchandise and providing great customer

service a priority since opening its doors in April 2012. “We are family owned and dedicated to providing excellent service to our customer,” said Andrew Ross, owner. “We know your items have value and we will lend you as much as possible. In addition to our pawn services, we also offer a place for customers to sell unwanted

Andrew Ross, owner of Rogers County Pawn, is ready to help customers with buying, selling or pawning high quality pre-owned items.

items or buy high quality merchandise at or near half off retail prices.” People often need to borrow small amounts of money that banks and other lenders are not willing to provide. A person has a low chance of getting a $300 or smaller loan from a financial institution for a 30 to 60 day period. The cost of the paperwork alone makes it unprofitable for banks to make these types of small loans. This has caused the popularity of pawn shops to rise. Rogers County Pawn accepts practically any item that can be valued and stored as collateral on a loan. The most common items they see are jewelry, firearms, diamonds, hand and power tools, musical instruments, bicycles, televisions and other home electronics, antiques and coins. These items maintain their value over a reasonable period of time and are easy to store. They also allow customers to provide tangible collateral, eliminating the need to distinguish high risk from low risk borrowers. Loans from Rogers County Pawn can be as small as $5 or as high as $5,000, depending

on the value of the collateral. “We understand that our line of business, in general, has a less than a stellar reputation,” said Ross. “But we work very hard to make our pawn shop the exception to that reputation and provide a true benefit to our customers.” When an item is brought in for pawn, Ross and his staff will first ask how much money is needed. Then they will carefully evaluate the item in order to lend the maximum amount. They always try to meet the customers’ needs when possible. If an amount is agreed upon by both parties, loans are given immediately. All collateral loans are carefully documented on a pawn ticket that includes the item’s description, the amount borrowed and the interest that will be due. Loans are made for 30 days, with an additional 30-day grace period. Customers can pay off their loan at any time in that 60-day period. The pay-off amount includes the original principal and accumulated interest. If a customer is unable to pay off the entire loan, he can pay the accumulated interest charges

Page 9

and renew the loan for another 60-day period. A loan on a pledged item may be extended indefinitely as long as interest charges are paid within each grace period. Additionally, customers may have as many collateral loans as is necessary for their situation. “People should never worry about the security of their items in pawn,” said Ross. “We are licensed, bonded and insured, and you are absolutely guaranteed to get your valuables back when you repay your loan. Pawn shops are bound by state statute to carefully and responsibly care for pledged items. In fact, these items are often safer in pawn than they are in someone’s home.” Any customer is welcome to come in and sell their unwanted items for cash or to shop the inventory at Rogers County Pawn. In order to pledge an item and receive a loan, customers must be 18 or older and present a stateissued photo ID. To best serve its customers, Rogers County Pawn is open six days a week. Their hours are Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. They are closed on Sundays.

Two Can't-Miss Shows Coming to Broken Arrow Broken Arrow PAC concludes the first half of Spotlight Series with Beatles Tribute, David Phelps.

By Adam J. Foreman

Bringing the world to Broken Arrow has been the mission of the Broken Arrow Performing Arts Center since its opening five years ago. And to celebrate five years of world-class entertainment, the 2013-14 Spotlight Series keeps bringing unique shows to the stage, guaranteeing a season full of surprises. The Spotlight Series, presented by AVB Bank, is also sponsored by the Broken Arrow Convention and

Visitors Bureau, First National Bank of Broken Arrow, SJS Hospitality, TTCU The Credit Union, Cox Communications and St. Johns Broken Arrow. The first half of the season sees two phenomenal shows the whole family can enjoy. On Nov. 22, RAIN: A Tribute To The Beatles takes the stage with four amazing performers who mimic the Fab Four from their early years to the final Apple

Rooftop performance. David Phelps returns to the BAPAC for a record fourth time on Dec. 15 for a Christmas show like no other. “It’s been some of the most rewarding years of my life, and I know the people of Broken Arrow and abroad will see this season as a hallmark of pure talent and excitement,” said Mark Frie, BAPAC executive director. “Every year, we do our best to bring a wide array of entertainment to our stage, hoping to present a little something for everyone.” As “the next best thing to seeing The Beatles!” (Associated Press), RAIN performs the full range of The Beatles' discography live onstage, including the most complex and challenging songs that The Beatles themselves recorded in the studio but never performed for an audience. In addition, new songs are being included with the launch of the 2013 Tour. Together longer than The Beatles, RAIN has mastered every song, gesture and nuance of the legendary

foursome, delivering a totally live, note-for-note performance that’s as infectious as it is transporting. From the early hits to later classics (I Want To Hold Your Hand, Hard Day’s Night, Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band, Let It Be, Come Together, Hey Jude and more), this adoring tribute will take you back to a time when all you needed was love and a little help from your friends! For more than a decade, David Phelps has honed that ability to identify and deliver great songs, and it has earned him a reputation as one of the Christian industry’s most versatile voices. A graduate of Baylor University with a degree in vocal performance, Phelps gained acclaim during his eight years with the Gaither Vocal Band, before leaving to resume his solo career with a deal on Word

Records. Noted as a lyric tenor for his ability to sing in a high tessitura for sustained periods, Phelps has consistently garnered rave reviews for his three-octave range. Beyond his obvious technical skill, what sets Phelps apart is the heart and emotional weight he brings to each performance. More than just a great singer, he has the ability to really connect with a lyric and convey every nuance of feeling in a great song. Nicknamed “The Voice” for his otherworldly tenor-range pipes, David will take you through his endless string of hit songs as well as holiday favorites, past and present. NNot Just Your Holiday Ham Store The Hamlet offers a new menu and improved looks, with the same great taste. By Deanna Rebro

Make your holiday meals and get-togethers extra easy and extra special with a delicious ham or turkey from The Hamlet. Since 1986, Tulsa families have enjoyed the exclusive, honey cured, spiral sliced, honey-kissed™ hams that only The Hamlet offers. These hams are always imitated but never duplicated. The special blend of honey and spices gives the honeykissed hams their full-bodied flavor in every bite, with family and friends saying, “This is real ham!” No holiday would be complete without a turkey. The Hamlet also offers whole smoked turkeys or boneless spiral sliced, all white meat honey-kissed turkey breasts. “Order early to get just the right size ham or turkey you want,” says Bryan Hester, who with his wife, Shannon, owns two stores in Tulsa. Hams range from 7 to 18 pounds, whole smoked

turkeys from 10 to 16 pounds and turkey breasts from 4 to 5 pounds. If you want to take the credit for an absolutely decadent dessert, try the pecan pie in a jar or fudge pecan pie in a jar from The Hamlet. A pie couldn’t be any quicker, easier or better. And you can enjoy the applause. Check out the pancake and muffin mixes for holiday breakfasts or other foods from Stonewall Kitchen or Robert Rothschild. The Hamlet also offers its own line of specialty foods to serve or to give. These include products to satisfy everything from sophisticated gourmet tastes to down home comfort cooking. Pickled quail eggs, apple butter, sweet baby corn and dilled green beans, to name a few. And the yearround favorite that flies off the shelves –raspberry chipotle sauce to serve over cream cheese or to flavor

meats. Any of these items can form a theme for a customized gift basket for as little as $45, with corporate discounts available. They offer a large inventory of made in Oklahoma products that are a favorite for shipping anywhere in the country, as well as the honeykissed hams in their distinctive gold wrappers. Bryan also extends an invitation to check out the new patio grill at the 91st and Sheridan location. The Hamlet patio grill offers yearround al fresco dining Monday through Saturday from 4 to 10 p.m. Ceiling fans, ceiling-mounted heaters and a wood burning fireplace create a comfortable setting for a fine meal. Menu selections include exclusive Hamlet appetizers, steaks and gourmet burgers. “All our meats are the same premium quality as our

The patio grill is a pilot project for The Hamlet, and one that he plans to duplicate at future locations. Of course, you can still stop by the deli for the popular Hamlet lunches featuring Hamlet honey-kissed ham and turkey, and a variety of Boar’s Head meats and cheeses, cold sandwiches, grilled sandwiches, wraps, salads, ham and beans, chili and soup. OOn the Go Again Phyllis Pope of Broken Arrow is happy to be back to her active lifestyle after total knee replacement surgery performed by Dr. LaButti. By Joshua Danker-Dake

Phyllis Pope had a successful total knee replacement operation by Dr. LaButti.

In September of 2012, Phyllis Pope of Broken Arrow had her right knee replaced by Dr. Ronald S. LaButti. “When I was young, I liked to jump out of trees and off of rooftops,” says Phyllis. “I’m also a bit clumsy – I’ve fallen a lot over the years, and usually, I fall on my knees. They’ve always hurt a little, and over time, they’ve gotten worse. For the last four or five years, my right leg would hurt and swell so badly that I couldn’t bend my knee or walk – I had to elevate it and ice it and put heating pads on it all the time.” Phyllis, a self-described on-the-go housewife, enjoys traveling with her husband, Julian, who is retired, as well as sightseeing, antiquing, and going to flea markets and auctions. In addition to her work in her church nursery, she enjoys babysitting for her neighbors and attending country music concerts. But the pain and swelling in her knee affected Phyllis’s ability to do all of it, she says.

BROKEN ARROW

“Sightseeing on vacations was tough – I would walk a little ways and then have to sit down. Sometimes, we just had to go back to our room. Eventually, the knee started giving way, and I would almost fall. I was frustrated and miserable. I also work in the nursery at Indian Springs Baptist Church, and I was always worried about falling with one of the babies. I couldn’t even get on the floor to play, and if I managed to, I needed help getting back up.” Phyllis first went to Dr. LaButti in August 2012. “My husband made the appointment,” she says. “I wasn’t happy about it. I hate surgeries, and I have a lot of friends who’ve had bad experiences with surgery; some have even had to have more surgeries afterward. Even though I was in so much pain, I did not want a complete knee surgery.” Dr. LaButti compared new and year-old X-rays and told her the problem would only get worse. “Dr. LaButti was very helpful and patient,” says Phyllis. “He told me about the procedure and everything involved with complete knee replacement surgery, recovery, and beyond. He told me how much better my quality of life would be.” Eventually, she decided to have the surgery. “It turned out to be one of the best things that’s ever

Page 21

happened to me,” Phyllis says. “It restored my mobility and eliminated my pain. I’m thankful my husband made the appointment, and I’m thankful there was a doctor like Dr. LaButti to help me.” Phyllis says her postsurgery therapy was completely worthwhile. “After the surgery, I used a machine to work my knee, and I had inhome therapy for six weeks, which was wonderful, and then outpatient therapy. The therapists did a great job,” she says. Phyllis was also impressed with Dr. LaButti’s staff. “The check-in was great and I never had to wait to see the doctor,” she says. “The nurses were wonderful, asking questions and listening. They seemed to really care. And whenever my husband had questions, he would call, and the doctor’s nurse always returned his calls very promptly. She was very helpful.” Phyllis highly recommends Dr. LaButti. “If it weren’t for him – with all his knowledge and experience, as well as bedside manner – I would never have had the surgery. Now I can do just about anything.” For more information, contact

AAn Herbal Wonderland

Carols and Crumpets, hosted by the Tulsa Herb Society, will be held at the Tulsa Garden Center on Saturday, December 7 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.

By Tina Lynn

Imagine walking into a winter wonderland where fairies, herbal crafts and delicious condiments dance in your head; you smell lavender, rosemary and taste chocolate treats. This is a place where everyone knows your name and welcomes you with cheerful smiles and open arms. You’ve just arrived at

Carols and Crumpets, an herb craft fair described as a highly anticipated event, and indeed it is magical! This year, Carols and Crumpets is Saturday, December 7 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Tulsa Garden Center, 2435 S. Peoria. The event is in the historic garden center where the auditorium,

south room, and halls are turned into a whimsical shopping wonderland. There are vendors from Oklahoma, Kansas, Arkansas and Missouri who join together to celebrate the holidays early. Patsy Wynn, event cochair, says Carols and Crumpets has a wonderful following. Tulsans and

Tulsa Herb Society members (L to R) Bonita Watts, Patsy Wynn, Kay Schleuter and Eve Joseph.

New Crop Pecans

like-minded friends from surrounding communities form lines before the 8 a.m. opening in rain, sleet and snow to be the first in the doors to find warm beverages, tasty treats and unique handmade gifts waiting in the Tulsa Garden Center. The Tulsa Herb Society’s own members spend the entire year turning creative ideas into new cooking and crafting projects. Lois Galpin and the cooking committee promise tasty creations never tried before, but simply wonderful. Their vinegars are always a favorite, along with the chutneys that will be available in a multitude of flavors, so expect your palate to be pleased. Eve Joseph, event co-chair, and the crafting committee spend countless hours on delicate hand-made novelties. A few years ago the Tulsa Herb Society started two separate booths using their ingenuity and finesse. The greenery booth has mushroomed into a holiday decorating corner. The raffle booth offers shoppers an

Page 23

opportunity to buy tickets for the chance to win a one-of-akind handmade felt Christmas tree. It’s the perfect holiday gift with its unique design and craftsmanship. Vendors rejoice each year with their own special flair. Expect to find fresh and dried herbs and spices, vintage items, native crafts, primitives, steampunk jewelry, original art, gift cards, pottery, glassware, candles, soaps, lotions, clothing and chocolate. Did I mention fairies; they too will be there. After a morning of shopping the place to sit and chat with friends is the Snowflake Café, open at 11 a.m. for great noshing and restful conversations. This year the Tulsa Herb Society is celebrating their 25th anniversary by inviting you to this very special Carols and Crumpets. The admission is free, the atmosphere cozy and the scents exceptionally delicious. For more information contact (918) 289-6217 or visit www.tulsaherb.com. Finally Say Goodbye to Stubborn Fat there is no downtime you can return to work right after,” says Malissa Spacek, managing partner of BA Med Spa. “We’re very excited to be offering this incredible technology for our patients.” Developed by Harvard scientists, this procedure uses a targeted cooling process that kills the fat cells underneath the skin, literally freezing them to the point of elimination. Only fat cells are frozen – your healthy cells

remain healthy. Once crystallized, the fat cells die and are naturally eliminated from your body. CoolSculpting is safe, FDA-cleared and effective. Results look natural and can be seen as early as three weeks following treatment, with the most dramatic results seen after one to three months. Treatment areas may include the abdomen, upper abdomen, love handles, bra line, inner thighs and backs of thighs.

“You can even treat multiple areas at one time,” adds Malissa. CoolSculpting was featured on “The Rachael Ray Show,” as well as “The Dr. Oz Show.” Dr. Oz described the procedure as a “game changer” in the fight against fat. Examining before and after photos, he commented, “I was flabbergasted. These are huge changes.” Combined with diet and exercise, CoolSculpting is an

amazing solution that eliminates the stubborn lumpiness and unwanted pockets of fat most of us can never seem to get rid of no matter how hard we try. After a few months, you will see an approximate 20 percent reduction in fat – your clothes will fit more loosely and you’ll look and feel better. How cool is that? BA Med Spa & Weight Loss Center offers a variety of weight loss programs,

20th Annual Holiday Tea Off come out every year,” says Patsy Terry, owner of Arrow Flowers and chair of the Holiday Tea Off. Patsy has been involved with the event since 2001, and says it is a great time for friends and family to have some fun while shopping for the holidays. Over the years, she has seen the Rose District grow and thrive. As the city wraps a major overhaul to the district – which includes redistricting to an arts and entertainment sector as well as significant renovations to the street, sidewalks and surrounding buildings – the Holiday Tea Off is one of the first major events

planned for Main Street since the extreme makeover. Arrow Flowers is one of the many businesses updating their building, and everything looks to be on track to be completed by Tea Off time. “We are installing a new sign and putting in a new front entryway, among other things,” Patsy says. She adds that she has contractors staining the brickwork red as well, in order to freshen up the storefront to fit in with the newer motif of the Rose District. “I’ve wanted this color for a while,” she says, pointing to samples, “I’m excited about the

cosmetic procedures and enhancements to give you a healthy, beautiful confidence this holiday season.

renovations.” Main Street will be closed to traffic from Commercial to Dallas Street for the event, allowing plenty of room for folks to mingle and explore the shops and restaurants that will hold extended operating hours for the Thursday evening celebration. In addition to businesses staying open late, the Holiday Tea Off will also feature live entertainment. Expect to hear live music and singing, as well as dancing throughout the evening. A Victorian horsedrawn carriage will be on hand for moonlight rides through the Rose District.

There will also be drawings for gift certificates. These gift certificates, ranging from $50 to $500, are redeemable at any business partnered with the Broken Arrow Main Street Merchants Association. It will be an open house, of sorts, for the many new and established Rose District businesses. With fresh sidewalks, renewed storefronts and holiday decorations in place, it will be the perfect time to get reacquainted with Main Street. Bring the Outdoors In continued from page 1 furnishings and accessories for every room in the house, wall to wall and floor to ceiling. Natural materials such as logs, barn wood, iron, leather and animal skins capture the beauty of the outdoors and bring it indoors. In the four years the Taylors have been in business, they have gained a reputation for having just the right pieces for the comfortable look of a lake, ranch or mountain home. “We are happy when employees from other stores come in to see what all the buzz is about,” says Robin. Last year, they decided to go a step beyond their initial Aspen log furniture to feature new items that easily blend with a more traditional setting. The look is still rustic and still elegant, yet far more flexible when it comes to decorating. The risk was big, but worth it. On Friday, Saturday and Sunday, November 1-3, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., they will celebrate their first year under this new concept with an Anniversary Sale. “We were overwhelmed with the way our customers fell in love with our new merchandise,” says Robin. “And we hope people who have never visited will come in to see us this weekend.” Every item of merchandise in the store will be on sale during the three-day event. On Saturday, smoked meats will be available for lunch. All three days, from noon to 3 p.m., will be a Thanksgiving turkey craft for kids; the craft is something that parents will want to keep and pull out for their decor every year! In addition, they will hold daily drawings for a $100 gift card to the store. Clinton and Robin travel

extensively to select quality merchandise from vendors who share their passion for customer service. “We work with people who, like us, do whatever it takes to get the job done well,” says Clinton. The same holds true for their catalog partners. If customers don’t see exactly what they want on the floor, they can browse through dozens of catalogs. Or they can have their idea custom designed into reality. Many people building their dream homes have relied on The Refuge Lifestyle to develop their own signature look. Entertainment areas and man caves are especially popular for personalizing. Taxidermy service is available, as well as custom lighting. If a remodeling project is in the future, they can give any room a complete makeover. The Taylors have welcomed people from all the surrounding states and as far away as New York. They have shipped furniture throughout the country. Social media and a monthly newsletter play an important role in keeping in touch with their customers near and far. Clinton and Robin welcome the opportunity to share all that their unique store has to offer. The Refuge Lifestyle is just west of Memorial on 151st Street and is open 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday.

DDickens on the Boulevard Claremore Main Street Association is set to host its popular holiday event November 22 and 23.

By Cassie Woods

Dickens on the Boulevard is a Victorianthemed Christmas festival in historic downtown Claremore. Visitors to the holiday celebration enjoy live stage entertainment, authentic chuck wagon meals, pictures with Santa, a living nativity and much more. This year’s event will be held Friday, November 22, and Saturday, November 23, from

6 to 10 p.m. The event is free and open to the public. Attendees can also catch a wagon ride for a tour of the Claremore History Museum. A Victorian street dance, called by Phil Sample and including the Grand March, Venetian Waltz, Virginia Reel and others, will be held both nights of the event. Additionally, Territorial Marshals will entertain

tumes.” Several Oklahoma authors will also be on location for a book signing. Some of those authors include Bill Wetterman and Charles Sasser, Pamela Wetterman and Linda Trout, Tammy Mullins, Carla Stewart, Mary Coley, Lorraine Holman and Amy Conkling. Another favorite of the event, Dickens on the Boulevard will again feature the annual “Tales from the Top.” These tours of the upper floors of some of Claremore’s historic downtown buildings will feature costumed actors portraying animated versions of the city’s history. The tours are $5 a person and can be booked in advance. Space for the tours is limited to 60 people per night.

crowds with a reenactment of Western-themed action. Afterwards, attendees can join them for a friendly game of cards. “New this year we will also have Old Time Photography by CVA,” said Cindy Bissett, director, Claremore Main Street. “CVA is downtown Claremore’s newest photography studio, and they will offer Victorian backgrounds for family photos at very affordable prices.” Living window displays will pepper the downtown area, while period craftsmen such as a blacksmith and wood turners answer questions from the crowd as they perform their craft and sell their wares. “We encourage those who attend to wear Victorianera costumes as well,” said Bissett. “A lot of our volunteers will be dressed up and it really adds to the fun feel of the event. There will also be a contest each night with great prizes awarded to those with the best cos-

“This is just another way for us to celebrate Claremore’s rich tradition and enjoy our present in the heart of the city.” In addition to the entertainment Dickens on the Boulevard provides, it also the kickoff to the holiday shopping season. For this two-night event, the wonderful specialty shops that line the downtown strip stay open until 8 p.m. This allows shoppers who may not be able to make it during regular business hours a chance to shop locally for some very unique items. Shoppers can register for a nightly drawing of $400 Dickens Dollars to be given away before the dance. This prize can be used in any participating downtown store until December 31, 2013.

“Dickens on the Boulevard has become a tradition in downtown through the hard work of the great business owners, volunteers and the Main Street program,” said Bissett.

GGo for the Gold New customers at Tulsa Gold & Gems are always pre-approved for special zero percent interest loan.

Spencer and E.W. Fisher, owners of Tulsa Gold & Gems.

By Christopher Davis

With a reputation built on nearly 30 years of providing the best customer service for gold and jewelry purchasing and loans, Tulsa Gold & Gems is the number one dealer of precious metals in Tulsa, if not Oklahoma. A licensed pawn broker and approved to deal in precious metals, Tulsa Gold & Gems not only pays top dollar, but they also offer great rates on loans for customers looking to use their jewelry as collateral. So, whether you need some extra cash for the upcoming holidays or are considering a short term investment in the stock market, be sure to stop in at their only location, 91st and Yale. Tulsa Gold & Gems offers an introductory interestfree 60 day loan for amounts up to $25,000. And, if you need to extend the loan beyond the initial 60 days, you have the option to set up a traditional loan; interest is due monthly until paid back. This means that new customers can obtain a loan without paying interest for up to 90 days. Because Tulsa Gold & Gems is a collateral lender, there is no credit check, no employment check and, most importantly, no nonsense. If you need money fast, then drop by Tulsa Gold & Gems.

www.ValueNews.com Acceptable forms of collateral include gold, silver, platinum, jewelry (broken or good condition), diamonds. If your jewelry is created by a popular company, like Rolex or Tiffany for example, you would of course be paid a premium over just the scrap value of the piece. Tulsa Gold & Gems has earned a reputation for fairness and transparency, paying for the exact purity of your jewelry. With a website that features easy-to-read, upto-the-minute rates on gold values, you can rest easy you are getting a fair deal. The website also has a gold calculator to help you with the process. These are the same rates and calculators that staff uses. And because staff is not paid commission, no one is motivated to undervalue your jewelry or diamonds. Transparency is a fundamental to doing business at Tulsa Gold & Gems. Specialists will assay your jewelry right in front of you using high end spectrometers to analyze the purity of the metal substance. Customers have said, "It's like watching a science lab in action." This is just one more way the company is unique. “Some buyers use an acid test to assess purity, but this does not always give an accurate reading of purity – especially if you have high quality gold. That isn’t testing, it’s guessing. We pay at every increment of purity between eight and 24 karats, and that isn’t something others can accurately claim,” Fisher says. “We don’t guess. We have

invested in the technology to give scientific readings of purity, and we pay based on those readings.” This no-nonsense approach to business extends beyond the counter. Tulsa Gold & Gems values the safety and security of their customers. A Tulsa police officer greets everyone at the door and directs them to the proper office (upstairs for gold/jewelry assessments, downstairs for the loan department). Upon verification of business, customers are allowed entry by staff into either suite. Lobbies are clean, with seating and televisions to keep children occupied and up-to-theminute updates on payout prices and values. Most transactions only take about ten minutes. So, whether you are bringing children along or have business to attend to quickly, you can rely on a swift and professional experience every time you walk into Tulsa Gold & Gems. They have an A+ rating with the Better Business Bureau and pay more than anyone else in the nation for gold. Business hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday. For more information, contact

across the country. You can find satisfied customers in several communities in Arizona, as well as Colorado Springs and Denver. With a recent expansion to Oklahoma, more and more customers are opening their doors to Dynamic Door Service throughout the Oklahoma City and the Tulsa metro area. The garage is seldom considered a major room in a

Operating under the motto “Striving to be the best, not the biggest,” Dynamic Door Service always values quality over quantity. house, but when you think about how often you actually utilize its space, it should be. Whether you store your car in the garage, or use it for work space and storage, convenience and security is vital. Some garages feature the old style of doors, relying on torsion springs to ensure the door not only opens and shuts, but stays up. It is common for torsion springs to give out, since they are

constantly in use. Oklahoma weather can be brutal on these mechanisms, with extreme heat and humidity in the summer and frequent rain and ice in the winter. If your garage has newer-style cables and pulleys, you may have recently noticed some extra friction or resistance in the mechanism, making it more difficult to open and shut the door. Without routine maintenance, these pulleys and cables can rust and jam. Even worse, the tracks can become misaligned from an accidental bump with a car or some raucous children playing in the vicinity. If your garage door is in need of restoration for an older mechanism, ready for an update or needs major attention to tracks and pulleys, Dynamic Door Service will ensure your garage is working for you safely – anytime and any day. They offer same-day repairs on torsion springs and will beat any competitor’s price on garage door repair service. Whether the building is commercial or residential, DDS provides superior

service for any type of entryway. If you are looking to make a good first impression on friends or customers, Dynamic offers a broad selection of high-quality doors made from steel, fiberglass or wood. Understanding that appearance can be just as important as security, specialists will assist you in choosing the perfect door to suit your design, security and budget needs. Perhaps you already have the perfect door, but it no longer opens and shuts properly? Dynamic Door Service has you covered. If the problem is with the door knob or hardware, they can send a technician to assess the situation and repair the door to restore its perfection. If the problem turns out to be related to the door itself, rest assured that the company can offer a replacement that restores your security and improves the aesthetics of the threshold. Dynamic Door Service prides itself on quick response, quality work and competitive prices. Their website contains a wealth of information, enabling you to preview types of doors and parts, as well as gain ideas for replacement. For more information, contact
