Exceeding Expectations Fowler Chevrolet has been completely remodeled and is setting the new standard for dealerships in the community. By Duane Blankenship Following storm damage, Fowler Chevrolet of Tulsa has spent 18 months with remodeling projects that have brought the family-owned dealership to a high performance standard. The dealership was previously operated by Sonic Automotive out of Charlotte, North Carolina and was a corporate-owned dealer franchise operation. It is now wholly owned by Fowler Holding Company, Mike Fowler, president. The dealership officially changed hands, becoming
Fowler Chevrolet, on September 12, 2012. New management has brought the dealership to a level that has exceeded public expectations. The building has a brand new front and new car sales area. Almost everything throughout the operation is new, including paint, floors, service drive, furniture, customer lounge, and state-of-the-art service equipment. Service Manager Jeff Cantrell reported that in the near future each service advisor will be equipped with a

ASK THE MONEY MAVEN STRAIGHT-FORWARD, NO-NONSENSE TALK ABOUT YOUR MONEY
LIFE IS A RISK BY MELANIE HASTY-GRANT
Everything in life is a risk. Everything from taking huge steps to doing absolutely nothing is a risk. Let’s talk in plain English about the risks and rewards of different investments. I’ll start with CD’s. Many folks don’t consider a CD an investment, but it is. Basically, you’re loaning the bank your money in return for a fixed rate of return if held to maturity, (6 months, 1 year, 5 years). The longer you loan the bank your money, the higher the interest rate you get. Right now, the national average for interest on a 6 month CD is .44%, 1 year .64%, and 5 year 1.35% (1). Since it’s guaranteed and backed by FDIC it doesn’t sound like much of a risk. The guaranteed part of a CD isn’t risky but the fact that CD’s are paying so very little is. The reason the low interest rate is a risk to you is because it doesn’t offer you enough to keep up with inflation. It’s called inflation risk and it’s very real! A few years ago we paid about $1 for a gallon of gas. Today we pay more than $3. The average inflation rate is about 3% a year. If you’re not making at least what the inflation rate is…..you’re losing money. Okay, now lets move on to bonds. Typically, folks buy bonds because they perceive them to be less risky. The current average yield for a corporate 10 year bond is 2.43%, for a 20 year 3.97%.(2) Sounds like a pretty square deal?!? It can be, but here is the “skinny”. As the federal funds rate and the US Treasury rate go up, the value of bonds go down. Bonds are subject to interest rate risk if sold prior to maturity. Bond values will decline if interest rates rise and bonds are subject to availability and change in price. The 10 year Treasury note has been at all time lows.(3) If rates go up, prices will go down. (4) What that means to you, if
Industry Stocks is 4.4%. The payment of dividends is not guaranteed. Companies may reduce or eliminate the payment of dividends at any given time. The risk of this type of investment lies in the price fluctuation of the shares that you own. It may go way up, it may go way down. This is what we call principle risk. Always remember that “trees don’t grow straight to heaven”. In other words “the market” doesn’t just go in one direction.
you own a bond, is that the value of what you own will decrease if you don’t hold it to maturity. Another side note is that lots of folks don’t like to buy bonds because of their length to maturity. It can range from 10-20 years or more. That’s a long time to tie up your money. So, for the grand finale’….let’s talk about the “evil” stock market. When you buy a share of a stock you are really buying into a small piece of a company called a “share”. These “shares” are bought and sold on the stock exchange each day. The value of each share goes up and down depending on how many buyers and how many sellers are trading that company each day. Folks decide to buy or sell a particular company based upon lots of things. How much profit a company has during a quarter, if that company pays dividends to its shareholders, and other economic and political factors play a role in whether people may choose to buy or sell. In addition, if the company pays dividends you get to share in the profits of the company. According to the Value Line Survey on the Highest Dividend Yielding Stocks the average dividend for Electric and Utility
The moral of the story is . . . EVERY investment has risk! Such is life. It just depends which risk you are willing to take at the moment. EVERY investment has positives and negatives. There is no Utopia in the investment world. The important thing is that you fully understand the risk and rewards, that you either learn enough to effectively invest on your own, or you hire an expert to do it for you. Remember . . . Who you trust matters! For more information go to www.waterstonewealth.com or call 918-272-1120. AA Local Classic Is Back Knotty Pine Barbeque reopened doors in Broken Arrow in November of last year. By Duane Blankenship If you lived in northeastern Oklahoma during the 50s, 60s, or 70s, when you hear the word barbeque the first name that most likely comes to mind is Knotty Pine. This institution established roots in Sand Springs in 1952 by founder Paul Woodard. The Knotty Pine first opened doors as a beer joint that served some barbeque. In 1962 Mr. Woodard decided he needed to change the image of the establishment and changed the name to Knotty Pine Barbeque. It became a premier barbeque restaurant that served some beer and met the community’s need for a place to sit down for some great food and fellowship. It was not uncommon “back in the day” to see the county sheriff, the mayor, or even the state governor at the Knotty Pine. It seemed that everybody went there during the years the restaurant was establishing itself as the local landmark, which would burn to the ground in May of 2010 due to a fire started by a faulty smoker. Knotty Pine Barbeque reopened its doors on November 5, 2012 at 1424 W. Kenosha, across the street from the Rhema

Fitness Center in Broken Arrow. Owner Jim Rice said that the foundation of Knotty Pine’s success has always been its select, choice meat. “Paul Woodward insisted on buying the best beef and pork available, and it’s the principle we follow today at our restaurant in Broken Arrow.” Rice buys corn-fed beef from Arkansas and travels there personally to make periodic inspections to assure the quality stays at the highest level for his restaurant. “We were taught that to be successful, we must maintain our standards of great food and great employees,” Rice said. Nine of his 15 servers previously worked for Knotty Pine in the Sand Springs restaurant. Prices are very competitive, from the basic sandwich to full-order dinners. The Broken Arrow restaurant is decorated with lots of Harley Davidson memorabilia, and you never know who you’ll see there. “Come for the food, stay for the ambiance,” says Jim. “We’re famous for serving up the best of both.” Jim says he feels the menu and the food are better now than ever before, and his high-tech
smoker is near failsafe with dozens of devices that will shut down the system if ever a potential fire-causing problem is perceived. Longtime friends of Knotty Pine tell Jim that they believe his food is better than the original served back in the early days and that their mouths still water whenever they think about the Knotty Pine menu. Carrie Burr, whose husband is a Tulsa police officer, started working for Knotty Pine in Sand Springs 24 years ago. “Customers tell me all the time that this is the best barbeque they’ve ever eaten,” she said. One Oklahoma native who now resides in California notified Jim on Facebook that he was traveling back just to eat at Knotty Pine. The menu features beef, bologna, chicken, ham, hot links, pork, sausage, ribs, spare ribs, chopped brisket, sliced brisket, sandwiches, slaw, potato salad, beans, spuds, sides, salads, desserts, and catering for all events. If you savor barbeque with all the fixin’s, Knotty Pine has it. And the best part of eating there is that it’s delicious and guaranteed to fill your

hundred years.” The full-length play has been adapted for the stage by Joseph Robinette, who worked closely with E. B. SShopping for a Cause The Glenpool Spring Market will be held Saturday, March 2 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Glenpool Conference Center, to benefit The Little Light House and other missions. By Sheryl Sowell Spring is blooming, and now is the time to stock up on gifts for upcoming graduations, weddings, baby showers and birthday parties. The Glenpool Spring Market, sponsored by King of Kings Lutheran Church, will feature artisans of handcrafted items and independent home-based businesses from all over the Tulsa metropolitan area. Visitors will enjoy shopping for handmade craft items, candles, jewelry, home-baked goods, and much more. Donations at the door (disinfectant wipes, Kleenex, or $1) will benefit The Little Light House in Tulsa. All profits will support local, national and international missions. The Spring Market will be held at the Glenpool Conference Center on Saturday, March 2 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The Conference Center is located at 12205 S. Yukon Ave. (Exit Highway 75 at 121st Street, go west about a half mile and turn south onto Yukon.) A total of 60 vendors will be selling a huge variety of items, including Miche Bags and
accessories, Avon products, kitchenware from The Pampered Chef, health supplements and skinny wraps from It Works, Stella & Dot Jewelry, Birdhouses by Mark, onesies and hats for newborns by Netherton, marinades and sauces from Spanish Jack’s Fine Foods, Scentsy products, and a lot more. In addition, King of Kings Lutheran Church members will have a booth of delectable home-baked goods for purchase. Servants of the King, the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League (LWML) of King of Kings Lutheran Church, host the Spring Market each year. “This is our third year at the Glenpool Conference Center, and we are so grateful that the expanded space has allowed our market to grow and offer more support for missions,” said President Vicki Wing. In the past, the group has supported Joplin tornado relief, King of Kings’ annual live nativity, Freedom House, Meals on Wheels, Glenpool Outreach Center, and missions in Africa. “This year we are thrilled to
be supporting an amazing nonprofit Christian organization that relies solely on donations, The Little Light House,” said Pat Bartley, LWML secretary. According to their website, the mission of The Little Light House is to glorify God by improving the quality of life for children with special needs, their families, and their communities. They offer tuition-free services to children with special needs up to 6 years old. Their yearround program provides highly individualized educational and therapeutic services which include physical therapy, speech therapy, occupational therapy, assistive technology, low vision therapy, nursing, and special education. For more information, visit www.littlelighthouse.org. Don’t miss the Rogers County Home, Garden, Farm & Ranch Show at Claremore Expo Center March 22-24.
By Lorrie Ward It started out over 15 years ago in the old Claremore Armory on the corner of Patti Page and Lynn Riggs Boulevards. But while that armory is no longer in existence, the show must go on – the Rogers County Home, Garden, Farm & Ranch Show, that is. The event is scheduled to run from noon to 8 p.m. on Friday, March 22, from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Saturday, March 23, and from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday, March 24. It will once again be held at the Claremore Expo Center, where it has grown to be one of the location’s largest annual events. Kathy Geyer of OklaHomes Realty and current president of Northeastern Oklahoma Real Estate Network (NOREN) and Brett Knapp of Brett Knapp Quality Homebuilders and former president of Rogers County Builders Association are serving as co-chairs for the 2013 show. “We would like to take this opportunity to invite everyone to come out to the Rogers County Home, Garden, Farm & Ranch Show,” says Kathy, “where they can enjoy the weekend, visiting and learning from master gardeners and many
other vendors.” The show has something for everyone and will host numerous exhibits relating to new homes, remodeling and other home improvement projects, farming, ranching, and gardening. On Saturday and Sunday, the Oklahoma Mower Association will hold Lawn Mower Demolitions and Lawn Mower Drag Racing at the expo’s outdoor oval track. To learn more about these fun spectator events, find the Oklahoma Mower Association on Facebook. Since food is an integral part of any home and garden, there will be plenty of tasty things to sample at this year’s show. Bill Baird of Claremore’s The Hammett House will coordinate guest chefs for the show, and the Happy Smoker Barbecue will be there, featuring all types of barbecue. For the kids, there will be a 30 by 60 foot slide inflatable dragon, sponsored by Pixley Lumber Company, and plenty of interactive events hosted by the Master Gardeners Association of Rogers County (MGARC). Both Kathy and Brett report that they are happy to join forces with

usage (also called xeriscaping), and drought-resistant plants. In the spirit of this theme, the first 500 attendees will receive a free Arizona Cypress tree seedling. “This is an Oklahoma proven plant from OSU research,” says John. “It’s a good, low-maintenance, drought and disease resistant evergreen. It originated in Arizona, but it grows great here.”
With so much to see and learn, it is no wonder that organizers anticipate this year’s show to be bigger and better than ever, expecting over 140 booths to fill the spacious Claremore Expo. “This is one of Claremore’s premiere events for all ages and has been for many years,” says Brett Knapp. “We look forward to another informative and entertaining show.” Major corporate sponsors for this year’s show include Metro Appliances and More and Champion Windows, and the show is produced by NOREN and the Rogers County Builders Association. Other sponsors include Brett Knapp Quality Homebuilders and OklaHomes Realty. For more information, visit www.TheRogersCountyHome andGardenShow.com or contact the RCBA at 918-343-1911. SSpring Brings Swarming Termites Mother Nature’s Pest Control recommends the Sentricon HD System in the battle against termites. By Duane Blankenship It’s that time of year, so don’t be surprised when you see pesky termites swarming. These pests usually appear during the month of April and are a “red flag” that termites are in your area. They have also been known to swarm into the month of May in our area.
Mother Nature’s Pest Control is still the number one Sentricon installation and monitoring company in the state of Oklahoma, and they’ve been eliminating termites since 1979. In a recent visit with Mother Nature’s spokesperson Shelia Disler, she revealed some

interesting facts about termites. They are born for one mission: to eat, and this they do from birth until death. Termites inflict serious damage to homes in short order, and queens commonly live for 25 years and up to as many as 50 years. “There is an average of five termite colonies per acre in our area,” said Sheila. Thousands of termites will swarm from these colonies each year, typically during daylight hours when it’s sunny and usually just after a rain. Every swarming termite is a potential king or queen, and the purpose of their swarming is for pairs to mate and return to the ground to form new colonies, where they immediately begin to reproduce. Although only three percent of the “swarmers” find mates, that’s still a lot of termites – and potential new colonies. Those that do not find mates die in just a few hours. The original Sentricon System appeared in Oklahoma in 1995 when it gained state approval. It has been recognized as one of the best solutions to eliminating existing termite colonies and preventing future infestations. A couple of years ago
Sentricon introduced its new HD Always-Baited System that may be the greatest improvement ever made in the fight against termites. “With the new HD System, you get two and a half times the punch you had with the original system,” said Shelia. “The rosin based cellulose and bait repels moisture while it provides protection. This is the foundation of the new HD System.” Since termites are always foraging, they are attracted to the bait and carry it back to underground colonies to be regurgitated, where it is then eaten by other members of the colony, in the very heart of where they live. As more and more bait is consumed, activity becomes less and less until the entire colony is eliminated. The Sentricon termite elimination system is eco-friendly and provides great peace of mind as it protects your home from termites. Take Mother Nature’s experienced advice. Check their website or call direct for more information on the new Sentricon HD System, even if you already have the original Sentricon System. Shelia says it’s good to
periodically place some glue boards in dark areas of your home that are frequent havens for brown recluse (fiddle back) or black widow spiders. Good areas to set the traps are clothes closets, heater and hot water closets, and attics. And when you’re doing your spring gardening and planting, be sure to wear gloves and shoes. Both of these spiders love flowerbeds and areas where they can hide. You don’t want to be bitten by either. Mother Nature’s also provides total pest control for rats, squirrels, opossums, raccoons, armadillos, pigeons, skunks and more. If any of these pests have invaded your home or yard, contact Mother Nature’s Pest Control for a free estimate to trap and have them removed from your property. In addition, the company provides lawn care services including weed control, fertilization, aeration, and flea and tick removal. One of their most popular services is their Energy Star rated “Pest Free” attic insulation. For year-round protection from termites and other pests, depend on Mother Nature’s Pest Control. Call or visit the website for more details on all their provided services and the benefits of each. For more information, contact

RRelief After 30 Years of Knee Pain Gary Raleigh suffered knee problems for many years before his successful knee replacement surgery with Dr. LaButti. By Joshua Danker-Dake Gary Raleigh, of Owasso, turned to Dr. Ronald LaButti after decades of problems with his right knee. “I’ve had so many injuries to my knee,” says Gary. “The first was in 1976, and then 1985, 1987, 1988, 1990, 2000, all the way up to 2012. I had severe degenerative joint disease in my knee. I’d had knee surgery, and I’d tried injections, braces, activity restrictions, and medications, but I still had problems.” Gary then went to Dr. LaButti. “I knew Dr. LaButti
when he was doing his medical residency, and he was an excellent surgeon even then,” says Gary, a nurse practitioner by trade. “When he completed his total joint fellowship and I saw how well all of his patients were doing, I just knew he was the one that could help me.” In August of 2012, Gary had total knee replacement surgery with Dr. LaButti. “I had a fantastic experience with him,” Gary says. “My recovery was rough, but that was expected. I went home on a walker. After a
week, I progressed to a cane, and ten days after that, I was able to get around without it. I did four weeks of physical therapy, which included time on the bicycle, walking, wall squats, and resistance band exercises, plus lots of massage.” Gary is now better able to enjoy his hobbies, which include hunting, fishing, and traveling. “I have a little stiffness in the mornings, but it’s absolutely nothing compared to the pain I used to have,” Gary says. “I would absolutely recommend Dr. LaButti – five stars,” says Gary. “His ability and desire to do an excellent job are beyond anything I have ever seen. I would recommend him to anyone who really wants the best of the best for their surgery.” For more information on Dr. LaButti or knee or hip replacement surgery, visit www.hipandkneedoc.com. Clyde Moore said, “There’s one good thing about snow, it makes your lawn look as nice as your neighbor’s.” Northeast Oklahomans haven’t received quite enough snow to complain about (or be happy about) this winter, and now it’s almost time for spring! If you dream of having a beautiful, lush lawn that is certain to be the envy of your neighbors, but don’t want to spend a ton of money, call SoonerLawn Weed Control & Fertilization today. Michael Bolton, who is a captain in the army, owns SoonerLawn, which got its start 10 years ago. According to Michael, SoonerLawn has maintained a decade of success for three simple reasons – competitive pricing, excellent customer service, and impressive results. “Give us a chance! We are willing to go above and beyond for our customers, and we provide great results. You’ll be happy with your beautiful, thick, green lawn,” says Michael. “We also have very good prices. We researched and found that our prices are below most, if not all, other local lawn care companies.” Friendly employees and top-notch results at a low price – what are you waiting for?

Michael guarantees your satisfaction, and his customer testimonials will attest to this fact. Karen Ames said, “SoonerLawn has been taking care of all the common ground at The Reserve at Broken Arrow for the past year. I have lived here for the past six years and am the landscaping chairman. The Reserve looks better than it has ever looked in the past thanks to Michael and the Sooner crew. They are very
professional and take great pride in their work. I would highly recommend them to anyone looking for a lawn care company.” On a similar note, Steve Brown of Steve Brown Properties L.L.C. said, “Michael has been spraying and taking care of our lawn needs for about five years. He has done the spraying for several of our developments: Trinity Creek II, Cypress Creek and the Ridge at South County. Michael has also been spraying and taking care of our lawns for our rental companies for five years: Steve Brown Properties, Wellington Investments and Villa Properties. We have found his work to be very good, as well as his pricing. We would highly recommend his services.” SoonerLawn has an A+ rating with the Better Business Bureau of Tulsa. Give them a call – you won’t be disappointed when you end up with a gorgeous, lush, green lawn! For more information, contact

HHealth Care Reform – Pay or Play? The Holmes Organisation will present a free seminar on April 3 to discuss with business owners the most current updates to the health care reform legislation.
By Sheryl Sowell The Holmes Organisation will present a free seminar, “Health Care Reform – Pay or Play?” on Wednesday, April 3 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The seminar will be presented by Jan Dumont of Riggs, Abney, Neal, Turpen, Orbison & Lewis, Inc. In 2014, the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA), often referred to as Obamacare or the federal health care law, will go into effect, requiring companies that employ 50 or more full-time employees to provide health insurance coverage, send employees to an online exchange, or potentially pay a penalty of $2,000 per employee per year. How will this act affect business owners and their employees? Jan Dumont will present the most current updates to the health care reform legislation, including key action steps for employers to help analyze and strategically plan to avoid pay or play penalty taxes. “With the health care reform kicking in next year, many business owners that currently do not offer their employees health insurance are unsure of what steps to take to
avoid paying penalty taxes. This seminar is targeted to employers of companies with 50 or more employees to help them navigate the changes in legislation and avoid being penalized,” says Mike Ziegenhorn, insurance
agent and broker for The Holmes Organisation. The decision many company owners will face is whether or not they should extend coverage to all employees or choose not to provide coverage and pay the

penalty taxes. Businesses must consider how their decision will impact their employees, as well as predict how many employees would be eligible for subsidies offered through an exchange. Jan Dumont will help explain these concerns and more at the seminar. Jan practices primarily in the areas of employee benefits and employment law. She represents both public and private employers, insurance companies, third-party administrators, health care providers, and insurance agents and brokers, with an emphasis on employee welfare benefit plans. Dumont has over 30 years of industry experience in the field of employee benefits, including more than two years’ experience as senior manager of the Deloitte & Touche Oklahoma Benefits Practice and 12 years as a consultant, contract compliance manager, and marketing account executive for Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Oklahoma. She is a registered health underwriter, a member of the National, Oklahoma and Oklahoma City Associations of Health Underwriters, a former member of the Board of
Directors of the Tulsa and Oklahoma City Associations of Health Underwriters, and a former Steering committee member of the Tulsa Employee Benefits Group. Bringing clients up to date with information and education is what The Holmes Organisation is all about. “We value our customers, and we want to make sure they are continually educated on current legislative and regulative updates,” said Ziegenhorn. For more information or to register for the “Health Care Reform – Pay or Play?” seminar, contact Cindy Davidson at cdavidson@theholmesorg.com or (918) 359-6141. The free event will be held April 3 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., and lunch will be provided.

INTRODUCING Finally, an alternative to plastic surgery that is highly effective with no downtime! · Utilizes ultrasound to lift, tone and tighten skin. · FDA approved for lifting and tightening the face and neck. · Targets the deep foundation below the skin (which is typically addressed in cosmetic surgery) without cutting or disrupting the skin’s surface. · Just one treatment initiates the lifting process and the effect builds gradually over 2-3 months.
Ultherapy is a compelling option for people with mild to moderate skin laxity as well as those wanting to "stay ahead of the game" or those looking to prolong the effects of cosmetic surgery.

Could Your Old Driveway Use Some Curb Appeal? sore” leading up to your garage, while greatly improving the curb appeal. LCI Concrete is in business to remove driveways, patios, and other concrete flatwork that is showing signs of damage for one reason or another. They then replace the damaged concrete with the finest concrete and strengthening materials available. Kalan Paul is the owner of LCI Concrete and has more than 20 years of experience in his chosen field, serving both commercial and residential customers. His company has specialized in the pouring and scoring of concrete driveways,
patios and most other flatwork including sidewalks. Kalan attended Northeastern State University, and he and his wife, Aimee, reside in Broken Arrow. LCI is fully insured and is a member in good standing with both the Broken Arrow and Tulsa chambers of commerce. “We have but one goal,” said Kalan, “and that is to make every customer proud of their new LCI concrete product that will serve them well for years and years to come.” When one approaches your property, their first image is influenced by the driveway. If it’s unsightly with corrosion and flaking, it’s not going to make a
good impression. Kalan says concrete is durable, and when the soil and concrete are properly prepared and poured, you can expect it to last for at least 20 to 30 years. And you will rest easy knowing that LCI has the knowledge to do the job right each time. Replacing a damaged driveway is not inexpensive, but with its expected lifespan it might be a good investment and add value to your home. Concrete brightens up the areas around our homes and businesses at night. It is also an environmentally-friendly product because it is composed of renewable resources that can be recycled into granular fill or
concrete aggregate. The average driveway takes about two days to break out, remove, prep, pour, and score. LCI first lays 3/8-inch rebar on industry recommended 2-foot grid patterns after the subsurface has been properly and professionally prepared. Using industry standards of 3500 psi, LCI then pours and finishes the concrete. These standards are incorporated into every job they do. Concrete cures quicker during the hot days of summer, and you may drive on it in seven days. If it is poured in the fall or spring, you should allow about ten days before driving on it. Here’s a great
continued from page 1 tip from Kalan: “Do your concrete driveway and yourself a favor by using only clean sand on winter ice or snow covering it. Your driveway will last much longer.” Add curb appeal to your home by replacing your ugly, pitted, corroding driveway. Call Kalan at LCI Concrete for a free estimate. For more information, contact

LLadies Day Out The Ladies Lifestyle Extravaganza on Saturday, April 6 at Claremore Expo Center will feature shopping, cash giveaways, seminars, a fashion show, and much more. By Dell Davis The eighth annual women’s show, “Ladies Lifestyle Extravaganza,” is scheduled for Saturday, April 6 at the Claremore Expo Center. This year’s event will feature a full day of activities for ladies of all ages. The Ladies Lifestyle Extravaganza is a day-long event featuring seminar topics that are sure to inform and educate. One of the highlighted panels for the day includes a breakfast seminar that will focus on breast health. Breakfast will be served compliments of Hillcrest Hospital Claremore for the first 100 ladies attending at 9 a.m. with the seminar scheduled for 9:30. Other seminars will concentrate on the importance of heart health, general wellness, and financial security for ladies of all ages. The first 1,000 ladies attending will receive an ecofriendly shopping bag compliments of the Oklahoma Heart Institute. In addition, all attendees will receive a registration for the opportunity to win Ladies Lifestyle cash and
gifts throughout the day. Back by popular demand is the Lifestyle Fashion Show. Models of all ages will be wearing the latest spring fashions. According to Cari and Susan of Nesting Necessities, “We are excited to be involved with this year’s fashion experience. We are going to showcase a great number of our unique Claremore boutiques and our area clothing retailers. Our very own Claremore firefighters are participating as runway escorts for the models during the fashion show as well.” Claremore Dance Studios will return to the event to host dance demos for line dancing, salsa and more. Per Peggy Trease, this year’s event chair, “We had so much fun last year with David and Danielle of Claremore Dance Studios. They were able to inspire everyone in attendance to enjoy the benefits of dance as a fun way to exercise and as just a great way to socialize. These national dance champions made everyone feel at home with their fun demos.”
Literary aficionados will have the opportunity to meet and greet some of the region’s outstanding and widely recognized authors. Authors will do book signings throughout the day hosted by Boarding House Books. Cindy Bissett of Claremore Main Street said, “Last year was the first time to offer this particular show activity and it was so well received we are expanding the area this year.” Recognized as one of the outstanding women’s events in the state, organizers expect Claremore’s show to attract an estimated 80 exhibitors with products ranging from health and beauty, jewelry, purses, clothing and accessories, home décor and much more. The show also offers an excellent opportunity for attendees to gain access to a host of valuable resources, including Safenet Services. OOklahoma’s Largest Wine Tasting Festival The 10th annual Flying Fez Wine Tasting Festival will be held Saturday, March 9 at the Bedouin Shrine Temple in Muskogee. By Sheryl Sowell Enjoy a day of education, fun and celebration of Oklahoma’s wine industry at the 10th annual Flying Fez Wine Festival on Saturday, March 9 at the Bedouin Shrine Temple in Muskogee. This event is not just a showcase for Oklahoma wineries; it is a wine experience in itself. “All proceeds will support the betterment of the Shrine Temple, including its new roof,” said Shriner Stan Martin. Ten of Oklahoma’s finest wineries will come together for what has become the largest wine festival in the state. All types of wines, including many award winners that rival those from Napa Valley, will be on hand to taste: dry wine, dessert wine, hot mulled wine, iced wine smoothies and more. It all takes place in a warm, friendly and casual setting. The Flying Fez Wine Festival attracts people of all ages 21 and older from across the state to learn, sample, and enjoy old favorites and new wines. Many take advantage of festival discounts and buy their wine supply for the whole year. The festival is an opportunity to really get to know wine. Attendees not only sample
the wines, but can talk with the owners and winemakers who are more than happy to answer questions and share their vast knowledge. One of the most-heard comments through the years has been an appreciation for the tips on wine pairings. Just like adding cream to coffee changes its texture and taste, food – when interacting with wine – will affect its flavor. In fact, different ingredients and preparation methods will bring out different taste sensations with the same bottle of wine. By talking with the winemakers, guests can learn what works best with typical dishes, cheeses and international cuisine. Of course, the day would not be complete without wonderful food to go with the wine. A gourmet Italian cuisine lunch (not included in the ticket price) will be served from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The festival will be open from 10:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturday, March 9. Tickets are $20 per person, and each guest will receive an embossed wine glass. The Bedouin Shrine Temple is located at 201 S. 6th St. in

SSpring Clean Your Mortgage Refinancing could save you money. By Jocelyn Wood When is the last time you reviewed your mortgage statement? Could a refinance save you money? RCB Bank loan officers Jenalee Mitchell, Robin Brown and Michael Banham answer questions to help determine if refinancing is a money-wise decision for you. How often should I review my mortgage? Every three years, unless you have an adjustable rate (ARM), says Jenalee Mitchell of Claremore. “In that case, review annually. Rates are lower than they’ve ever been. If you have an adjustable rate mortgage, don’t risk an increase when your rate period is set to adjust; now is the time to lock in a fixed rate.” What should I be looking at? Review your interest rate, term of loan, adjustable rate or balloon payments, if any, and your home’s current appraised value, says Mike Banham of Owasso. “With a lower interest rate, it’s possible to reduce your term, thus saving you money by reducing interest costs over the life of your loan, and have the new payment still be close to
your existing payment.” Also, when reviewing your mortgage, you should determine what you want to accomplish, says Robin Brown of Broken Arrow. “Is your goal to lower your monthly payment, shorten your mortgage term or get cash from the equity built up in your home? Once you decide what you want to accomplish, then you can determine if refinancing is right for your personal financial goal.” When should I consider refinancing? If the current interest rate is 2% lower than your current mortgage loan rate, it may be cost effective to refinance, says Jenalee. “Keep in mind, you have to also consider the balance owed on your current mortgage and how long you plan to be in your home. How long will it take to recover closing costs?” Other reasons to refinance include to lower your loan costs and shorten the term of your loan; lower your monthly payments and use the savings for other items in your budget; convert adjustable rates to a fixed rate; or raise cash, using
your equity for home improvements or to pay off debt. When is refinancing not a good idea? If you plan to move in the next few years, or if your home value has decreased, refinancing may not be the best solution, says Mike. “It takes about three to four years to recoup the closing costs for a refinance. Also, if your home has lost value, a refinance may cause you to pay PMI (private mortgage insurance) or a higher PMI than on your current loan. Be careful, as upfront mortgage insurance has doubled for FHA loans in the last 18 months.” Another reason to pass on refinancing is if you’re close to paying off your loan, says Robin. “Once a customer is within 10 years of paying off their loan, typically more of the payment is going towards principal and it isn’t feasible to refinance (unless you can see closing costs will be recouped).” What do I do if I want to refinance (or don’t know)? Talk with an experienced loan officer who can help you
RCB Bank Loan Officer Jenalee Mitchell recently helped a customer save $210 a month on their loan payments and reduce their total interest by almost $46,000 over the life of the loan. decide if refinancing is a moneysaving opportunity for you, says Mike. “Ask questions. Ask for your best options and compare programs.” It’s important to find a lender you can trust, adds Robin. “For instance, here at RCB Bank we don’t pressure our customers. Together, we’ll discuss your goals and examine options to find the best possible solution for your financial needs, at no obligation.” How long does the process take? On average, the loan process, from the initial application until the loan is closed, takes about 30 to 45 days, says Robin. “The most important key is good and open
communication between you and your loan officer. At RCB Bank, our customers are important to us. It is our goal to keep you informed during the refinance process and work with you to make it as easy and comfortable as possible.” If you want help reviewing your mortgage to see if refinancing is the smart money-saving decision, we invite you to visit any RCB Bank branch location and speak with a loan officer.
