I am delighted to welcome you to this year’s Festival and I’m extremely proud to support the incredible Festival team, our industry and stakeholders.
Welcome to the Official Festival Program for 2019, that’s stylepacked with free and ticketed events that have been curated with absolute artistic integrity for everyone to enjoy. As Australia’s largest fashion event, we are thrilled to have partnered with Virgin Australia and Visit Victoria to provide a far-reaching campaign to attract Festival goers to Melbourne in March.
GROUP EXECUTIVE, BRAND, MARKETING & PUBLIC AFFAIRS VIRGIN AUSTRALIA
The Festival champions many things, encourages dreaming and brings together creativity and commerce like no other event. I am continually amazed by its outcomes and the positive impact it has on our designers, retailers and our industry at large. This industry sector is in the midst of managing convergence of significant magnitude from international markets, managing sustainable commitments, technology and interpreting consumer trends and behaviours. This year, we are creating a positive framework to bring to focus on the importance of design and creative application. On behalf of the Festival Board and its Executive team, we are extremely grateful for the continued support of the Victorian Government, a dedicated group of corporate partners spearheaded by Virgin Australia, local Government, media and all of you, who take an interest in supporting our creative industry sector and encourage the Festival to always pursue greatness. I look forward to seeing you at the Festival!
50 50
In our 23rd year, the Festival is set to be one of the biggest yet with a standout program of emerging and established Australian designer runway shows, a series of independent fashion presentations and arts events, entertainment by some of Australia’s biggest music acts and the introduction of the inaugural Australian Fashion Summit on International Women’s Day. The Festival’s focus this year is to empower dreaming and bring together our creatively-charged industry for all to see, be inspired by and learn from. On a global stage, it is critically important that we keep exploring and living with creativity, supported by community. Our attempt is to create a Festival where visionaries feel empowered to become fashion’s new vanguard. On behalf of the Festival team we are proud to have curated this powerful, engaging, diverse and spirited program. Power to all you dreamers.
This year we celebrate five years of the Virgin Australia Melbourne Fashion Festival and we are incredibly proud to promote Australian designers, models and businesses on the world stage. As Principal and Naming Rights Partner, our expansive flight network plays a critical role in supporting tourism and international trade for the Festival. In 2018, almost a fifth of the VAMFF attendees came from outside Victoria, and we are proud to be profiling the city of Melbourne as a destination. The Festival celebrates Australia’s vibrant and diverse fashion industry and this year, we are looking forward to championing innovation and creativity through our theme ‘Power to the Dreamers’. We are also pleased to have Australian fashion icon Carla Zampatti as the Virgin Australia Grand Showcase Designer. The Festival will again be featured on the Fashion Channel as part of our In-Flight Entertainment system, with behind-the-scenes footage and interviews with top designers, editors and fashion VIPs. We can’t wait to welcome attendees of the Virgin Australia Melbourne Fashion Festival on board our flights.
THE HO N . DA N I E L A NDR E WS M P P R EMIER OF VICTORIA It’s a pleasure to welcome you to the 2019 Virgin Australia Melbourne Fashion Festival - a landmark event that highlights our position as Australia’s fashion capital. As ever, this year’s Festival demonstrates the influence of fashion beyond the runway, shaping art, design, culture and ideas. At the same time, the spectacular runway shows put the extraordinary creativity of our designers centre stage – providing a launching pad for new collections and new careers. The Festival reflects the strength and importance of our creative industries and the cultural life we enjoy here in Melbourne and Victoria. Our Government is proud to be a major supporter of the Festival and to have contributed to the success it is today.

Welcome to the Virgin Australia Melbourne Fashion Festival – Australia’s largest fashion event.
The City of Melbourne is proud to support the Virgin Australia Melbourne Fashion Festival in its 23rd year.
Fashion, design and creativity are inextricably linked with Melbourne, and this festival highlights the depth and diversity of our local creative talent while placing our fashion industry in the global context. This year’s Festival includes more than 130 events and showcases hundreds of Australian and international designers and brands. As well as providing the chance to see and shop the latest collections and find new talent, it’s also an opportunity to be inspired by industry leaders, and to take our fashion businesses to the next level. All the best to the festival team, participants and partners for another incredible event. The Victorian Government is proud to support this festival which affirms Melbourne as the cultural and fashion capital and Victoria as the creative state.
The Festival is Australia’s largest fashion event and a Melbourne signature event. Its program of world-class runway shows, activations and workshops expresses Melbourne’s creative spirit, while also supporting our city’s renowned retail and hospitality industries. There will be a party atmosphere created for you to enjoy pre-andpost show. A free program of activities will run at the Festival Plaza in the Melbourne Museum Precinct every day of the festival week from 5:30pm – 11pm. EAT.DRINK.FASHION returns this year to boost your fashion experience. The curated lineup brings together the city’s food and arts culture into one tempting program. Festival events are aligned with exclusive offers from Melbourne’s top bars and restaurants to create the perfect fashion night out.
