FESTIVAL CHAIRMA N
CH I E F E X E C U T I V E O F F I C E R
In my new role as Chairman, I am delighted to welcome you to this year’s Festival and I’m extremely proud to support the incredible Festival team, our industry and stakeholders. The Festival champions many things, and during my five years serving as one of the Directors on the Festival’s Board, I have been continually amazed by its outcomes and the impact on our industry and stakeholders. This year, we are looking to the future for inspiration as we continue to strive for excellence in delivering one of Victoria’s prestigious Major Events. On behalf of the Festival Board and its Executive team, we are extremely grateful for the continued and ongoing support of Virgin Australia and Visit Victoria alongside a dedicated group of corporate partners, patrons, media and all of you, who take an interest in supporting our creative industry sector and encourage the Festival to always pursue greatness. I’m extremely excited about our future, and look forward to enjoying this year’s program with you.
Welcome to the Official Festival Program for 2018, that’s style packed with free and ticketed events that have been curated with absolute artistic integrity for everyone to enjoy. As “Australia’s largest fashion event”, we are thrilled to have partnered with Virgin Australia and Visit Victoria to provide a far-reaching campaign to attract Festival goers to Melbourne in March. This year we’ve assembled hundreds of awe inspiring creative industry businesses and organisations with the Festival’s many valuable stakeholders and supporters, to bring together a purpose led chorus that’s staring directly at the future. Creative and commerce platforms are developing at lightning speed, providing innovation, inspiration and experiences for us all. The reality is that many of the creative participants and stakeholders that are featured across our Festival program this year are facing steep learnings, where technology adoption is at the forefront of change. This future is not all about the output however, it is the outcome that businesses and creatives of tomorrow will be judged on and critiqued. So we are welcoming you to the era of responsible innovation, one that is sympathetic to our human ecosystem and our precious environment. On behalf of the Festival team we are proud to have curated a program that embraces responsible innovation in all its forms. It is our hope that our magic formula of creating the ultimate “fashiontainment” will help us all take a quantum leap forward with a conscience.

I am pleased to welcome you to Australia’s premier fashion event, the 2018 Virgin Australia Melbourne Fashion Festival.
Welcome the 2018 Virgin Australia Melbourne Fashion Festival – our annual celebration of fashion, design, business and creativity.
Now celebrating its 22nd year, this year’s Festival brings together fashion, the arts, and industry to celebrate the creativity of Victorian and international designers.
Showcasing over 700 Australian and international designers, brands and creative practitioners – the Festival invites us to celebrate inspiring fashion in all its forms.
We are delighted to celebrate our fifth year of supporting the Virgin Australia Melbourne Fashion Festival, which is the largest fashion event in Australia and showcases local fashion to a global audience. This year, thousands of interstate passengers are expected to fly to Melbourne to attend the fashion events which will be held across many iconic locations.
With attendances on the rise each year, the Festival is an important contributor to our economy, bringing people to Melbourne and supporting our creative industries.
Once again, the Melbourne Museum precinct will be transformed with activations and events, while runway shows will deliver a spectacular display of fashion and technology within the world heritage-listed Royal Exhibition Building.
P REM I ER O F VI CTO RI A
We’ve been a proud supporter of the Festival since the very beginning, and we continue to celebrate with you, the industry that helps make Victoria the heart of Australian design and creativity. I hope you enjoy the shows.
The works of emerging Victorian designers will be highlighted throughout the program, with the Festival once again delivering the biggest line-up for consumers to experience anywhere in Australia. I encourage you to explore the full program of activities, and support our independent creators that are highlighted in the Festival’s offsite Runways and Arts Program. We are the creative state and we’re proud to be part of an event that plays such an important role in promoting creativity, enterprise and local talent.

The Festival recognises Australia’s diverse fashion industry and brings together established and emerging designers with world-class runways, live entertainment and beauty workshops. This year, we are announcing that iconic Australian label Ginger & Smart will be featured in our Virgin Australia Grand Showcase and we will again be hosting the Virgin Australia Runway Bar at The Plaza. We are also proud to help raise awareness for breast cancer, with the Festival supporting ‘Fashion Targets Breast Cancer’ in its 20th year. Fashion is distinctive, fast-paced, and exciting – indeed, much like the world of aviation. We are looking forward to welcoming guests on board throughout the Festival and helping all guests celebrate their love of Australian fashion.
