ENJOY FAMILY LIFE IN NASHVILLE Nashville Life ナッシュビルは、都市の利便性と豊かな自然環境を兼ね備えた、美しく暮らしやすい街です。子どもたちが安心して遊べる 公園が整い、医療や教育施設も充実しています。 レコードスタジオが多く、音楽産業が盛んなことからミュージックシティと 呼ばれ、大学近くのミュージックロウはナッシュビルの観光スポットです。 ダウンタウンには食事をしながらライブ音楽を楽し めるレストランが軒を連ね、活気にあふれています。バンダービルト大学はダウンタウンから車で10分ほどの距離にあり、周 辺には食事や買い物が楽しめるおしゃれな街並みが広がります。大学周辺の住宅街は治安がよく、 ベビーカーで散歩して いる母子もよく見かけます。 ショッピングモールやアウトレットへのアクセスも良く、 スーパーマーケットも数多くあり、 日本の 食材も容易に手に入ります。 ナッシュビルはファミリーで安心して生活を楽しめる魅力あふれる街です。 Four Seasons ナッシュビルは東京とほぼ同じ北緯36度にあり、四季が穏やかに移ろいます。4月になると、街のあちらこちらで桜が開花 し、 ナッシュビル日本領事館、 テネシー日米協会およびナッシュビル市の共催で、 ナッシュビル桜まつりが行われます。毎 年、 たくさんの市民が訪れ、太鼓の演奏や日本文化を紹介するコーナーが人気を集めています。夏は30度を超えることも ありますが、梅雨がなく、湿度が低いこともあり、快適に過ごせます。 アパートに付属しているプールや市営プールは5月頃 からオープンし、子どもたちには波のプールやウォータースライダーを備えたレジャー施設が人気です。 秋の訪れとともに木々が色づき始めます。大学の広いキャンパスを、家族で散歩するのにとても良い季節です。 ナッシュビ ル周辺には、 ファミリーで紅葉を満喫できる山や公園もあります。冬の寒さはアメリカ東部に比べれば厳しくなく、大雪にな ることはめったにありません。道路が凍結することもないので、冬も安全に外出できます。 Seasonal Events アメリカは季節の行事を大切にする国で、 ナッシュビルでも一年を通じて多彩な催しが楽しめます。 なかでも、 イースター は、地元の子どもたちにとても人気のあるイベントです。幼稚園や教会で行われる“エッグハント”では、子どもたちがお菓子 やおもちゃの入った“卵”を夢中になって拾い集めます。色とりどりのかわいいウサギのお菓子は、 イースターの風物詩で す。夏はミュージックシティならではのライブ音楽と多彩な食事が楽しめる無料イベントが、 ダウンタウンや公園などで、数多 く開催されます。 ファミリーで楽しめる場所も多く、本場ナッシュビルのカントリー音楽に触れる絶好の機会です。 ハロウィンの時期は家の庭先の飾りつけが華やかになり、 トリック・オア・トリートが街のいたるところで催され、仮装して参 加するハロウィンパーティーで盛り上がります。1年で最大のイベントは、 なんといってもクリスマスです。 あちこちに大きなク リスマスツリーが飾られ、住宅街ではそれぞれ工夫を凝らしたクリスマスデコレーションが輝きます。 ショッピングモールで はサンタクロースと写真を撮るイベントが数多く開催され、順番を待つ子たちで長い列ができます。 Summer Vacation 大学の夏休みは5月から約３ヵ月間あり、多くの日本人留学生はこの期間を利用して、 アメリカを満喫するファミリー旅行に 出かけます。 ナッシュビルはアメリカのほぼ中央にあるため、北部（シカゴやナイヤガラの滝）、東部（ワシントンDCやニュ ーヨーク）、南部（ニューオリンズやフロリダ） にもマイカーで行けます。 ナッシュビル空港は全米の多くの都市に直行便があ り、 サンフランシスコやロサンゼルスも3～4時間のフライトで訪れることができます。最も人気のあるデスティネーションはフ ロリダにあるディズニーワールドとユニバーサルスタジオです。 クルマで約10時間ほどかかりますが、ハイウェイが整備さ れているので快適にドライブできます。 大学の夏期交換留学プログラムに家族連れで参加する人も多く、 フランス、 ドイツ、 イギリスなど、 ヨーロッパを旅行して回る こともできます。 また、留学先によってはファミリーイベントも用意され、 グローバルな交流ができるのも魅力です。
Sports アメリカでは野球（MLB） ・アメリカンフットボール（NFL） ・アイスホッケー （NHL)・サッカー （MLS)・バスケットボール （NBA)が５大スポーツとして親しまれています。特に、 ナッシュビルに拠点を置くNFLの 「テネシータイタンズ」、NHLの 「ナッシュビルプレデターズ」 は人気が高く、両チームともプレーオフに進出する強豪チームです。バンダービルト大学 にも野球、 アメリカンフットボール、バスケットボールのチームがあり、多くの地元ファンが大学構内のスポーツ施設を訪 れ、 にぎやかに試合観戦を楽しんでいます。市内にはゴルフ場も多く、パブリックコースはリーズナブルな料金でラウン ドできます。 テニスも手軽なスポーツのひとつで、公園の無料コートをファミリーで自由に使えます。 また、 スポーツジムの あるアパートも多く、 いつでも好きな時にトレーニングできます。 Health Care ナッシュビルは全米でも医療機関が充実していることで知られ、 日本語通訳サービスがあるバンダービルト大学病院を はじめ、 たくさんの病院があります。 日本とは医療保険制度が異なりますが、一般的な医療保険に入っていれば、適切 な診察や治療を受けられます。小児医療についても、大学と提携する病院が多数あり、親切に対応してくれるので、不 安なく受診できます。 アメリカの病院は予約制で診察を受けるまでに時間がかかるというイメージがありますが、 ナッシ ュビルでは当日でも診療可能なクリニックが多く、急病の時にも安心です。市内の医療サービスは全体的にクオリティ が高く、 ナッシュビルの大きな魅力となっています。大学にも学生が利用できるヘルスケアセンターがあり、初期医療が 受けられ、病気や医療に関する相談もできます。 Community ナッシュビルには日産やブリジストンの北米本社があり、 日本人ファミリーがたくさん暮らしています。春の日本文化ウィ ーク、 ミドルテネシー日本人会主催のソフトボール大会など、 日本人コミュニティの活動も活発です。 また、大学から車で5 分ほどの場所に日本総領事館があり、各種証明書や選挙などの公式手続きなどが簡単に行えます。 日常生活で不安な ことがあったり、 ナッシュビルの情報が必要な時は、バンダービルト大学で学ぶ日本人留学生のネットワークが活用でき ます。 日本全国から集まった学生たちが協力して、快適な大学生活をサポートしています。 Education ナッシュビルには公立と私立の小学校、中学校、高校が数多くあり、教育環境が整っています。大学近くの公立小学校 では大学関係者の子どもが多いこともあり、 さまざまな国籍の生徒が在籍しています。 英語の習得をサポートする専門教員が配置されている学校もあり、子どもが英語環境に溶け込みやすいように配慮さ れています。夏にはサマーキャンプが開催され、毎年多くの子どもたちが、 さまざまなプログラムに参加しています。山や 川でアクティビティを体験したり、数学や科学を徹底して学んだり、期間も半日から一週間程度の合宿まで、幅広い選択 肢があります。 サマーキャンプは、子どもたちの好奇心を広げる良いチャンスです。 大人向けには、大学の配偶者を対象にした無料講座、図書館や教会の無料講座など、昼夜を問わずたくさんの英会話 教室が開かれています。毎週日曜日に託児付きのグループ英会話教室が開催される教会もあり、 日本人がたくさん参 加しています。
