We are delighted to share the employment outcomes for the Vanderbilt Master of Science in Finance Class of 2024. This class represents the largest graduating MSF cohort yet, and we are thrilled to report that their employment success has reached new heights.
Despite the large class size and the financial market uncertainty, 95% of our job-seeking MSF Class of 2024 graduates secured positions within 6 months of graduation. This is a remarkable achievement, building on the already strong results of the previous class. Notably, we have seen an increase in both the average and median salary numbers for our graduates, reflecting the high caliber of our students and the growing demand for their financial expertise across various functions. One of the key factors contributing to the success of the MSF Class of 2024 has been their ability to leverage both the Owen network and their personal connections. This demonstrates the invaluable support and mentorship our alumni provide—and the strength of the Vanderbilt MSF ecosystem in helping our students navigate the competitive job market.
The Class of 2024 experienced a fluctuating market backdrop, combined with tremendous technological breakthroughs. These outcomes were achieved through tenacious yet nimble efforts by our students and employer partners. We continue to be extremely grateful to our alumni who have provided not only employment intelligence and outlook for employment opportunities, but also words of encouragement and kindness to our young and aspiring finance professionals. Our alumni were instrumental in a significant portion of the 37% of offers sourced through Owen connections.
This year's employment outcomes continue to demonstrate Vanderbilt's strong regional presence, with 58% of graduates accepting positions in the South and Southwest, up from 49% the previous year. This is a testament to the university and Owen's stellar reputations in these areas and to the marketability of our MSF students. We expect significant employment opportunities to continue in the South and Southwest due to this regional growth.
The MSF Class of 2024 has demonstrated their versatility, with 38% of students heading into investment banking, comparable to the previous year. We have continued to see successful diversification of student job function outcomes, with a significant increase in the number of graduates pursuing roles in consulting (11%) and investment management (10%). Additionally, we are excited to see the emergence of new job function categories, such as Credit & Lending and Business/Data Analytics, which in aggregate accounts for 10% of student employment outcomes. This new trend showcases the wide-ranging application of the MSF degree and our student's ability to thrive in evolving financial landscapes.
We are immensely proud of the accomplishments of the Vanderbilt MSF Class of 2024. Their dedication to knowledge and upskilling, resilience, and adaptability have truly set them apart, and we are highly confident that they will continue to make a profound impact in the world of finance.
Sincerely,
Ginny Ling Associate Director & MSF Coaching Lead | Career Management Center Vanderbilt University | Owen Graduate School of Management
