Lot 16. Adam Clayton’s Tour-Played Fender Standard Precision Bass.
Adam Clayton’s Fender arctic white Standard Precision Bass. Clayton, bassist for U2, played this instrument for performances of the song “A Sort of Homecoming” on the Joshua Tree Tour from May-July, 2017, which included stops in Vancouver, Seattle, Pasadena, Chicago, Rome, Paris and Amsterdam.
During the July 12, 2017 concert in Berlin, remembered as a “very rainy” show, this bass was used for the songs “Bullet the Blue Sky,” “Running to Stand Still,” “In God’s Country,” “Trip through your Wires,” “One Tree Hill,” and “Exit.”
The bass has an alder body, Fender Jazz gloss maple neck, and Seymour Duncan “Quarter Pound” pickups. The bass exhibits the expected minor nicks, scuffs, scratches, and wear from its extensive concert use. One of Clayton’s original blue picks and his strap are included. The bass comes in a Fender hard shell case with moderate surface wear and identification labels affixed.
Berkley-formed, five-time Grammy Award-winning rock band Green Day is one of the world’s best-selling bands of all time, with more than 70 million records sold worldwide and 10 billion cumulative audio/visual streams.
Their breakout album Dookie, which sold over 10 million and achieved diamond status, is widely credited with popularizing and reviving mainstream interest in punk rock, catapulting a career-long run of #1 hit singles. Green Day’s release of rock opera American Idiot captured the nation’s attention, selling more than 7 million copies in the U.S. alone, taking home the Grammy Award for Best Rock Album and lead to a critically acclaimed stage adaptation on Broadway.
Released on February 7, 2020, Green Day’s thirteenth studio album Father Of All... (Reprise/Warner Records) debuted at #1 on Billboard’s Album Sales Chart and #1 in both the U.K. and Australia. Pitchfork declared, “Green Day’s most fetching and youthful songs in ages. The trio sounds reinvigorated, more like hungry newcomers staking their claim.”
