The Adventures of Mickey Mouse Books Vol. 1 & 2. (David

A wide range of colorful, much-cherished Disney collectibles from the 1930’s are based on the Silly Symphonies. This popular series of 75 cartoons generally featured all new characters whose screen career was confined to a single cartoon, with a few notable exceptions. The best known are the Three Pigs, whose astronomical popularity led Walt to bow to pressure to produce sequels. He famously exclaimed “You can’t top pigs with pigs!” and was ultimately proven right as the three sequels did not approach the original’s reach. Members of the “Fab 5” made some appearances too: Donald Duck’s debut was in 1934’s The Wise Little Hen, and Pluto’s first short appearance without Mickey was 1932’s Just Dogs. Pluto headlined another Silly Symphony in Mother Pluto. There’s even a “Hidden Mickey” in Santa’s Workshop: A Mickey Mouse doll can be spotted in Santa’s bag of toys as he waves goodbye.
