veryone will agree that the face of fashion has changed for good. Nigeria's fashion industry has passed its teething years and is now heading to Eldorado. Our beloved Nigeria is now Africa's fashion capital! But, this didn't happen like a big bang. Rather, it is so today because certain individuals did something at a point for the industry that has slowly but surely brought us to the oohs and aahs today! I speak of the thirty Nigerian celebs featured on our cover; people, who over the years and at different times, contributed to the growth and new dimensions in the industry. Latasha Ngwube has carefully pieced together a superb research work to arrive at the thirty people who played a significant role in Nigeria's fashion boom. That's our package this week. Have a great one!

f earlier we considered braided bags to be good only for beach wear, now thanks to unstoppable designers imagination braided bag is a more versatile accessory that can complement both a casual and smart outfits. Braids come both tiny and delicate like on Diane Von Furstenberg and Burberry Prorsums bags where braids serve more like details, or bold and statement like on Dolce & Gabbana pieces where braids are the focus of the accessory.

or those who were around in the sixties, the name “Shade's Boutique” should ring a bell as she was one woman who believed in the future of local Nigerian fabrics at the height of Western fashion influence. Her boutique was the go-to spot for both men and women whose fashion tastes were way ahead of their time. She revolutionized the iro and buba and adapted what we now know as boubous from the men's agbada. These days she still plays an active role in fashion offering advice to younger designers and helping them with direction as far designs and trends are concerned. She has really seen it all and has much wisdom to impart to newer generations. She has been conferred with many lifetime achievement awards and recognitions for the strong part she play in the fashion history of this country.

Abah Folawiyo

O

ver the last decade, Fashion in Nigeria as we know it, has grown in leaps, in bounds and the industry has expanded to accommodate creative professionals aside from designers. Stylists, runners, creative directors, fashion photographers, makeup artists, bloggers etc are just some of the dividends of this boom. Nowadays it is very commonplace to turn one's head left or right and count 10 up and coming designers in either direction, making waves and building a strong clientele base. But to cast one's mind back further than the decade, this wasn't the case as it was not considered a 'steady' profession especially for those who had received a formal tertiary education. This list is the product of painstaking effort led by Allure's Latasha Ngwube, Yemisi Suleiman and correspondent Fatima Garba, to honour those who really carved out the road to sartorial bliss that we are enjoying today. Some people as early as the sixties had started the game and fined tuned it to

he very prominent fashion house “Labanella” is owned by none other than the majestic Abah Folawiyo and was set up in 1981. She started the trend of combining African prints with brocade. She is one of the designers responsible for the transition of this trend from the local to the international scene. Abah also founded FADAN to help protect and encourage designers who were yet to come. Little did she know that today she would be regarded as one of the first of her time. Till this day she is still considered one of the grand matriarchs of fashion in this country. Her sense of style has not waivered either as she has maintained her signature look over the years without fail.

luremi Osholake better known by her b ra n d n a m e re d e f i n e d v i s u a l merchandising and brand development as far back as twenty five years ago. Remi has always had the reputation of being reserved allowing only close friends into her inner sanctum. Over the years she has enjoyed a cult following among the fashion faithful who can't get enough of her sexy, uber feminine outfits. Today her stores are located in very choice locations around the Lagos metropolis as well as in other cities. Her trademark look of head to toe black has not faltered over the years either and running into the introverted designer is a rare yet pleasant occurrence.

After leaving the corporate world in the early 80's (1984), she left to go the UK to study fashion designing. She came back to Nigeria in 1985 a year after her training and started her fashion houseSupreme Stitches at a 3-Bedroom apartment in Surulere, Lagos and a year after establishing the company, she emerged as the best Designer in the country in 1986. For over 15 years, the label creatively explored the use of local fabrics including aso-oke and ankara alongside foreign fabrics chiffon, taffeta and silk. As the long-serving President of the Fashion Designers Association of Nigeria (FADAN) for over six years, she worked tirelessly to educate and encourage the new generation of Nigerian fashion designers.

HE NIGERIAN FASHION INDUSTRY the point where we are today lending credence to their various professions and paving the way for many of the young and successful names in the fashion industry today. We are not saying that these 30 alone are responsible for the formation and growth of the fashion industry but they have played very critical, pioneering and influential roles in shaping the industry to what it has become and is fast becoming and for that we sincerely applaud them. Today, internationally and continentally Nigeria is on the map, dressing international celebrities, gracing slick foreign fashion editorials, walking on catwalks that were a dream barely 8 years ago. For those who are from the old school, this should be a nice refresher while many of the younger fashion pundits, fashionistas and aficionados should learn a thing or two about those who made it possible to be globally fashionable in Nigeria!

Deola Sagoe

D

eola Sagoe is a fashion visionary with a unique approach to her craft, she has been honored through the years with numerous awards and accolades. Deola is a haute couture designer from Ondo state. She has been designing since 1989 till date and has gained international fame and exposure for her lively and colourful designs. She has represented Nigerian fashion in so many campaign shows such as United Nations world food program, Catwalk the world: Fashion for food. If you asked the average person today their top three designers, nine out of ten times, she would probably top their list. There is a reason why she is known as the queen of couture in Africa, she is just that good. Her designs have been superior for years, even before Nigerians started to fully understand and appreciate the labour, cost and detailing of couture, she was doing her thing. Waiting for the continent to catch up with her and that's why today she is still at the top of her game. Deola she has indeed taken Nigeria to the world and without visionaries like her, one wonders

where we would be now. Her daughters have now also carried the mantle and have started their own line called Clan. The apples haven't fallen far from the tree and we are glad she has inspired her own tribe to follow her just as she inspires young fashion designers to go places with their work.

Omoyemi Akerele

C

reative Director of Style House Files and the brains behind the MTN Lagos Fashion and Design Week, Omoyemi's mark on Nigerian fashion would not be easily forgotten. She was the first editor of the now rested True Love West Africa magazine. Through her experience as a fashion stylist, she has provided a platform of extensive consultancy and exhibition for emerging and designers on the Nigerian scene. Through LFDW she has been able to let the quiet voices of young talent be heard and provided a much needed arena that would enable them further their creative pursuits and take them to greater heights. She recently led a delegation of selected Nigerian designers to the Pitti Immagine Trade Show in Florence, Italy in a bid to further expose the Nigerian fashion industry to the world.

Lexi Mojo Eyes

T

o term Lexi Mojo Eyes as one of Nigeria's fashion ambassadors would not be too far from the truth as he reinvented the Nigerian fashion Industry over 16yrs ago by creating the first national platform, The Nigerian Fashion Show for Nigerian designers to excel. It was also a platform for Nigerian designers to look inward to all local fabrics, accessories and designs in their production line. He campaigned for the buyers and fashionistas to patronise the local Nigerian fashion industry. In 2000, his company Legendary Gold Limited, took 10 Nigerian designers to the World's fashion capital Paris where Nigerian fashion was put on the international spotlight. Today, we have fashion shows and fashion weeks popping up around the country but Lexy Mojo Eyes' contributions will not be forgotten.

Chalya Shagaya

A

true born stylist and fashionista, Chalya has always her finger on the pulse even though styling was a little known and certainly not received vocation at the time. Her first styling job in Nigeria was with Miss Common Wealth beauty pageant in 2001 where she noticed that some of the contestants did not quite have the right accessories and footwear

so she provided for them and put their final looks together though her initial role was as their chaperone. With a successful outcome, it became clear to Chalya that this was a role very few people could fill at the time and there was a dire need for what came naturally to her. She worked closely with Dakova on a couple of his fashion shows in 2002 and served as a muse to designers Folake Coker (who she did an Ad Campaign for in 2003) and Lisa Folawiyo (who named a JBL dress name after her one season). Chalya was the only stylist at the first ever This Day Fashion Week in Lagos. She has been privileged to work with Marc Baptiste who is a renowned fashion photographer in new York, River Island UK on a couple of Ad campaigns, Kelis who she styled for her come back Tour in pieces designed by JBL, Anika Noni Rose (who she dressed in Deola Sagoe), Korto Momolu, BET Rip the Runway and BET Honours, Ikechukwu, Kate Henshaw, Oluchi Orlandi, Sasha Alabi, Polo Watch Company etc. She has gone from the creative side of things to the more business oriented aspect of the fashion industry focusing on market/trend analysis, fashion production and offering advice to the creatives on a consultancy basis, leaving the newer crop of stylists to dominate the industry.

Bayo Haastrup

N

igeria's premier fashion and editorial makeup artist is Bayo Haastrup. He runs Ijade-Egbin(which translates from Yoruba to mean “Outing of Beauty”) and was the official makeup artist for Media 24 Nigeria publications. His decision to become a makeup artiste was inspired by his mother. After completing degrees in English and Human Kinetics he was visiting family in Ivory Coast when he met International makeup artist Oliver Price who was visiting from Paris to train models and aspiring makeup artistes. Bayo seized that opportunity in1990 and never looked back as he trained with Oliver and went on to Maison de la Mode to learn the basics in makeup, grooming and catwalk. His road to success was long and arduous as people could not wrap their heads around the concept of a makeup artist much less a man 'painting faces' and teaching catwalk. He credits designers like Dakova who he says saw something in him and gave him the opportunity to execute his talent and skill. He was also appointed as the Creative Director at Nigeria's Next Supermodel search.

His designs comprised of basic casuals to more complex pieces like suits, trousers as well as shirts with the use of African fabrics with high end fashion that potrayed freshness and originality. At a point in the late 90s his use of linen for caftans, tunics and casual wear was explosive causing a major shake up in the industry because as fashionistas described it “If you weren't wearing Dakova, you just hadn't arrived”. Branching into publishing at some point and even politics, DAKOVA has definitely been around and despite a number of distractions and setbacks he has continued to rise from the ashes. He still continues to hold relevance in the fashion scene as one of its true pioneers.

Florence Ita Giwa

T

he former Senator Florence Ita Giwa was and still is a tone and trend setter in the male dominated world of politics in Nigeria. During the period when she was an elected senator, Nigerian female politicians at the time, favoured very low key outfits that really hid their sense of style. But that was not for our senator as she dove whole heartedly into trendy outfits that showed off a woman's assets, highlighting her femininity and celebrating women and womanhood. For every political outing, the senator never failed to make a mark in the sartorial stakes bringing about a new wave of female politicians expressing their unique identity be it in western or traditional attire. She has also contributed to the fashion industry with her immense support and patronage of designers.

Bella Naija U

che-Eze Pedro popularly known as Bella Naija, has come to play a major role in our lives especially in the fashion industry. The year of the blogger was 2006 and that was when she started to write about what she was passionate about; everything Nigerian and most especially fashion in Nigeria. She filled a huge gap in the imaginations of many young Nigerians who had not been back home for a while and were largely out of touch with the fashion and social scene, satisfying their cravings to see a new side of Nigeria. Her blog soon quickly became the place where you could see and find out everything from fashion to gossip. It helped most of our designers to be popularly known within the country and in the disapora and gave them a huge boost in publicity over the years from fashion events to fashion profiles and interviews, fashion adverts as well as giving many more would be bloggers the opportunity to express their views by emulating her footsteps. As the internet became more popular on this side of the globe, so did Bella Naija's popularity, to the extent that other African countries started to take notice and so did the rest of the world. She has been featured on CNN and many other platforms as well as received numerous awards for her contribution to the development of fashion.

She moved to NewYork and has graced so many runways and fashion shows all over the world from London to Paris, Milan, to Tokyo for top designers such as Christian Dior, Chanel, Gianfranco Ferre, John Galliano and high street campaigns for Gap, Banana Republic, Victoria's secret and also international magazines such as Marie Claire, Vogue, Elle. She is currently married to Italian fashion designer Luca Orlandi with a 3yr old son and also still participates in fashion shows in Nigeria. he Duke as he is known is a man of many firsts, unafraid and unperturbed to take big risks knowing that to be a Master of the game, the stakes have to be extremely high. Nduka is a media mogul with varying interests spanning politics, music, entertainment, fashion and more. In 2005 he hosted the first Style weekend that showcased several top designers of the time including Dakova and Deola Sagoe at the prestigious Eko hotel. With each year that has gone by he has raised the stakes combining music and fashion elements together and bringing in worldwide superstars to headline each show, allowing them to see Nigeria and its offering for the first time and taking that report back to the rest of the Western world on what we had to offer. In 2007 supermodels like Tyson Beckford, Naomi Campbell and Alek Wek walked on Nigerian catwalks wearing our local designers in a fashion festival that took the world by storm. Since then there is no fashion capital that The Duke hasn't taken Nigerian and African Fashion to. From NewYork to London, Paris to Johannesburg, Nigerian designers finally had their chance at the limelight that they so richly deserved. In 2011 the first true African fashion week was held playing host to 50 designers from the continent and beyond. The event spanned over a week inviting foreign press, models, celebrities and starts to see what Africa had to offer. This same feat was replicated this year when the Arise Magazine Fashion Week came to town yet again in another superlative show, wowing fashion lovers of all ages, races and creeds. All of this and so much more was made possible by one man who never believes that there is no way and whose contribution to the Nigerian fashion industry will never be disputed or forgotten.

redit must always be given where it is due and the lady behind Nigeria's first true luxury boutique, Designer's Club is someone who has always shied away from public scrutiny. Established in 1993, Designers' Club has been the go to place for those who appreciated the finer side of fashion, exclusive brand names and very selective couture pieces. Ndidi who comes from a privileged background understood quite early that there would always be those who craved fashion items that were not so available and commercialized to the rest of the world. Her keen eye and elevated sense of style always knew how to pick the brands that were on the verge of fashion success and before long she had opened her doors to upper crust of shoppers who gladly came to satisfy their sartorial desires. The motto of Designers' Club thus became “Fashion for discerning people. Till date the standard of Designers' Club has stayed consistently high in keeping with other luxury stores around the world. She encourages the Nigerian brands that are aiming for luxury and carries some of their stock alongside the foreign designers that she has always been known for.

TREND ALERT ...Statement trousers 2012 BY YEMISI SULEIMAN

S

tatement trousers are all about self-expression and standing out. So if you have decided to go bold and daring with your looks, statement trousers is it. Printed, bright, cropped, cut, wide-leg, skinny, all these trousers will make you look unique and special, they will attract attention and make people speak and turn their heads to you. Statement trousers appeared a lot at the Spring/ Summer 2012 Designer Collections: with each designer presenting it in his own way. Stella McCartney sent her models down the runway in pajama-style trousers, Anna Sui and Antonio Marras created wide-leg printed pants, while Salvatore Ferragamo played it safe and designed elegant cropped trousers you could wear to office. Despite the fact statement trousers can look a bit intimidating, wearing them is not difficult. Pull the trend off by either pairing the pants with basic items in neutral colors or mixing them with other printed items (the brighter the better!). Remember this trend is not for shy girls, it’s for those who like to be different and tell a story with each their look. SalvtoreFgmus

Effect of environmental toxins, detoxification on cancer

You need that professional poise!

That Power Handshake! Bosun was a stylish young man (or so he thought). He actually thought he was 'the last word in cool'. He was quite excited when he got invited to his boss's home for dinner. He felt he had finally arrived . He showed up looking nice and cool. He was wined and dined. Two weeks later another invitation came for dinner at the boss' home, but this time it did not include him. A month later, another invitation came for his colleagues. Again it did not include him. Now he was getting worried. Hmmm…and promotion time was creeping closer every day… A recent survey uncovered a lack of basic etiquette knowledge. 45 percent of those surveyed never sent a thank you note after an invitation to a meal, or receiving a gift; 70 % of respondents had never brought a gift for the host or hostess when visiting someone's home; and 40 percent of respondents never send wedding gifts when they could not attend.Good manners and proper etiquette are at the very core of how we communicate with one another. We need to develop and reinforce those essential courtesies that make our relationships strong, valuable and long-lasting. Here are some etiquette tips, which are easy to incorporate into everyday life: 1. Turn the cell phone off -- completely or leave in the silent mode during a luncheon meeting, social function, or on public transportation. 2. Hold the door -- whether male or female, hold open a door you have just passed through for the person behind you. 3. Bring a gift for the hostess nothing expensive, just something thoughtful. 4. Keep to the right -- on the sidewalk, in stairwells. 5. Say please and thank you -- to waiters, flight attendants, store clerks, cab drivers -- these little things go a long way. 6. Circulate at a party or social gathering -- whether host/hostess or guest, the people, not the food or drink, should be your main focus. 7. At gatherings, keep food or drink, briefcases or files in your left hand -- keep your right hand free for handshakes. 8. Stamp and address thank you notes in advance -- when you know they will be needed, then fill them out and drop them in the mail after attending an event or receiving a gift or favor and you'll be done. 9. Make eye contact and offer a warm smile -- in every situation, this gets people comfortable and at ease. 10. Be perceptive, be discerning -- survey a situation and always use your best judgment. “Now, more than ever, you need to observe the basic rules of etiquette. Great manners never go out of style, and with great manners, you will always win the hearts and minds of those around you. SOLVES ALL YOUR PROBLEMS pearlofwisdom.allure@gmail.com

Ms Pearl of Wisdom

Dear Ms Pearl, My boyfriend is very jealous; he does not even want me to keep any male friends not even in my office which is not possible. What should I do? His jealousy will diminish if you follow these instructions very carefully; demand to see his phone every time you see him, change his home screen to a photograph of you and password to your name, make him call you at least 5 times an hour and send snaps of himself in weird poses as per your commands… Your male “friends” at the office should disappear at the same time too! Dear Ms Pearl, I am 30 years old with a 5 year old daughter, (her father and I separated shortly after her birth). Prior to her father I was with a guy but it wasn’t serious, however now we are back together and 2 years has passed already. The love gets hotter as each day passes however he is married with children and we both do not want to end our relationship. My parents love him and our friends know about us, I’m practically his second wife but with no ring. I want to have a child with him but don’t have to marry him and cannot imagine being with another man. What do I do? The story of a happy mistress had to happen someday. Congratulations! Dear Ms Pearl, My best friend told me that a girl can have sex without a condom and won't get pregnant, even when she is not in her period! I find this hard to believe, is this true? I’m a virgin (16) and really want to have sex with my boyfriend (17) for the first time and we both don't know how to use a condom. Please help me before I make a big mistake! Better to be safe than sorry so I suggest investing in a chastity belt. In the unlikely event of that happening, try Durex because you should be using condoms until the day you are married and refrain from taking any further sex related advice from other virgins. Dear Ms Pearl, My girlfriend only calls me when she needs sex, but whenever I express my desire to be with her, she just talks about work. Kindly help my emotions. Where is the value, does she know about your other hidden assets?

o live in the 21st Century means to live in a toxic world. We are exposed daily to numerous environmental toxins and pollutants. Environmental toxins are on the increase and pose a problem in the form of very serious health risks, as thousands of toxic substances find their way into our air, water and the soil in which we grow our food. We spend our days inhaling pollutants such as car fumes, generator fumes house hold cleaning chemicals, cosmetics, and cigarette smoke. We drink water that has been thoroughly treated with chemicals, and eat food that is grown in toxic soil, pumped with hormones and packaged with preservatives. While our livers, kidneys, skin and lymphatic systems work round the clock to eliminate these dangerous toxins from our body, they very often just cannot keep up, and the result is a build-up of poisons in the system which destroy body tissue, damage organs, depress the immune system and leave the door open to a number of serious illnesses like cancers, allergies, reproductive issues, hormone disruption, autoimmune disorders, endocrine disorders. Environmental factors are now generally believed to be involved in the causation of nearly all cancers. Further, the World Health Organization has estimated that environmental factors constitute 25-33% of global disease burden. Diet, physical inactivity, and obesity are related to approximately 3035% of cancer deaths. In the United States excess body weight is associated with the development of many types of cancer and is a factor in 1420% of all cancer. Research published in 2005, New York University School of Medicine researchers provided some of the most compelling evidence yet that long-term exposure to air pollution-even at levels within federal standardscauses heart disease, fetal abnormalities, cancers, osteoporosis{sequestration of these toxins in bones}. Cancer known medically as malignant neoplasm is defined as unregulated cell growth as a result of gene mutation or DNA damage caused by environmental toxins. About 10 percent of cancer is said to be hereditary. Over time these toxins accumulates in the body causing chains of of event ranging from series of mutation and inactivation of the tumour suppressor gene leading DNA alteration, abnormal cell growth and cancer. In cancer cells divide and grow uncontrollably, forming malignant tumors and invade nearby structures. The cause of cancer is unknown but many things are known to increase the risk of cancer as mention above. Cancer can present at the early stage as generalized body weakness, headaches, dizziness, body pains, swelling, easy bruising, bleeding, weight loss and other symtoms the symptoms depend on the the type of cancer and the stage of the disease. The chances of surviving the disease vary greatly by the type and location of the cancer and the extent of disease. While cancer can affect people of all ages, the risk of developing cancer generally increases with age. In 2007, cancer caused about 13% of all human deaths worldwide (7.9 million). Rates are rising as more people live to an old age and as mass lifestyle changes occur in the developing world. There is a new trend in the prevention and the treatment of this night MARE Cancer, and this called Body Detoxification. Detoxification is the process of cleansing toxins from the body, neutralising and transforming them into non harmful substances and finally eliminating them from the body. There are various forms of detoxification includes Intestinal cleansing, Cellular cleansing, Cleansing to remove heavy metals. Adjuvant treatment like sauna, steam bath, foot detox, infrared therapies etc. Studies have shown that detoxification has prevented cancer and has prolonged the lives of people with cancers and has reduced the effect of chemotherapy The following are benefits of total body detoxification. ! Detoxification prevents cancers by getting rid of all the accumulated toxins in our body, through intestinal cleansing , cellular cleansing etc. ! Studies have shown that detoxification reduce the rate at which the cancer cells divide there by reverting the effect of cancer and restoring the body to optimal health over a long period of time. ! It destroys cancer cell, breaks down the toxins, eliminate it and restores and the body to good health. ! Body detox helps to reduce pain associated with cancer and its treatment. ! Detoxifies the liver in cancer patient and reduces the burden on the liver, improves the metabolic and eliminatory function of the liver. ! Infra red therapy kill only the cancer cells break down the toxins and encourage the skin as the largest organ of the body to detoxify by sweating. ! Studies have shown that detoxification reduces and rebuild immunity to speed up recovery from both the cancer and its treatment. ! It protects normal cells from chemotherapy injuries. ! Cellular damage caused by cancer and its treatment is restored. ! Detoxification reduces depression that comes with cancer and its treatment. The good news is that we know have a center in African, Nigeria, in Lagos were this can be done. Top 10 Tips to Flawless Healthy Hair

I

always believe hair to be the no.1 ultimate accessory; it can add to (or detract from) your overall look instantly. Keeping it in healthy condition is the most important thing you can do to help it look and feel fabulous. And, while it seems easy, this isn't as simple as minimizing chemical treatments or slathering on a weekly deep conditioner. While these can make your strands softer and less split-end-prone, what really matters is the daily handling and care; this is what creates the most stress--and potential damage--to your tresses. To help those luscious locks look their best always, I have put together my top 10 tips for lusciouslooking, healthy-feeling hair;

1

The right hair utensils: Every woman needs a good boar's bristle brush, they usually come at a big price but it's always worth it. I always advise to steer clear of plastic-bristle brushes. The proper bristles are key. A combination of natural boar bristles on either a round or flat brush is best for dry hair, while soft, rubber-toothed wide-paneled brushes are best for damp hair. The round brush is perfect when drying hair with blow dryer and the boar's bristle is good for the hair. A paddle brush like the one shown in the middle picture is good for doing s t ra i g h t e r, s m o o t h e r blowouts or detangling hair. And for our afro sisters a good old afro comb always does the trick!

a

W

ra p y o u r h a i r every night: This is necessary to keep the hair intact, especially after setting it the day before. Its the best way to keep the curls in the hair and also acts as an informal steam for the heat our head produces at night will help to keep moisture in our hair and prevents it from drying out. Also when you don't wrap your hair, you put your hair at more risk of breaking this is caused by the friction of rubbing your head on the pillow while you sleep. So my advice is to get that wrap on!

4

5

Use a silk scarf: This is an added bonus to the hair wrapping concept, because it reduces the friction as opposed to a cotton scarf. Some people advise to just get a silk or satin pillowcase if you can't be bothered to wrap your hair or wrap with a silk scarf!

12

2

Steam Fortnightly Deep condition once every two weeks. These treatments penetrate the hair shaft and strengthen strands; additionally using heat (from a blow-dryer) can intensify deep conditioning, as the heat causes the cuticle to open and the ingredients to penetrate.

7

African Shea Butter: Using Shea butter mixed with your conditioner is a MUST DO! I absolutely swear by this, as I started doing this ritual over 5 years ago and since then i have not looked back. Shea butter is an application that has multiple uses, despite most only knowing it as a skin product it has tremendous effects on the hair, quenching hair thirst is a main one and reviving hair quality too. Mixing with your normal conditioner and steaming for 15 minutes is an added bonus.

Hair Oil Less Is More! The undisclosed truth to bouncy flowing hair is NO OILS!!! Don't use too much oils in the hair, it weighs it down oils are for the scalp and you only need a little for the hair body, best to apply the oil scalp when hair is damp or wet and then blow dry . Serum is the only form of oils I put on my hair to prevent it from being frizzy or too

6

Heat Avoidance: Try not to apply too much heat on the hair, so for example curling irons, flat irons, blow dryers, continuous use of all these heat appliances have a later effect on the hair. Such as breakage and hair loss. The best way is to use them once a week only at the salon and use a heat protecting/silk spray. Secondly, don't flat iron or blow dry every morning before going to work. Instead wear a silk scarf and wrap your hair that's already helping your hair to stay

8

Use Serum: Using serum for wispy ends and not creams or hair gel is the best way to treat wispy or frizzy hair. I always like to use it on damp hair and then blow dry or flat iron. Works like a charm every time!

I wan to marry a man without erection JEROME ONIPEDE

Dear Jerome, I am a medical doctor, 35 and a virgin. After a few broken relationships, I am even more desperate to get married. I met this guy last year and things happened so fast that we had our introduction ceremony and look forward to marry this year. He said he was born again and I believed him because everyone is born again in his family. Later, I found out that he drinks heavily. Recently, he started saying that we need to have sex and I have to get pregnant for him before marriage. I refused at first, because I had made a covenant with God that I will not sleep with any man until my wedding night. But I thought, since we are getting married, why not? So, I agreed to have sex with him. When he tried penetrating me, I realised that he didn't have any erection. We tried and tried but he couldn't and that was how it ended. Later, I found some drugs in his car and realised that he has problems with erection. I confronted him and he denied it. Because our wedding day is near and I don't want to cause my parents shame and pain, I have decided to go on with the wedding. Now, I am tempted to look for someone to dis-virgin me. Maybe, my guy can then have it easy in penetrating me. I am very confused. Am I doing the right thing? I always read comments on your posts here on Facebook and I hope someone can be led by God to give me a word in season. Jerome, I am confused and desperate. Please read comments posted in response to this desperate call for help. Note please that the comments have been left largely unedited to maintain their originality: Temitope Ifeoluwa: Seriously gal...?! Please give yourself a little more worth. I fink u deserve better....believe me! Arlene Igho Madukwem: Never marry out of desperation! Is dat man truly worthy of u? Do u have absolute peace about ur choice. If not, abeg damn everything, and simply walk away.wrong marriage is like self inflicted life sentence 2 perpetual unhappiness! Give it all 2 god, and let him order ur steps aright. U will be best 4 it! U only have one life 2 live pls!! Ewaen Aisosa Natalie Usen: I don't think that will help d situation, it's just a probability. A man wit no erection cannot have sex with even a prostitute so it aint ur fault. Also u'r abt marrying a man who u'r goin to have problems havin sex wit in d future, can u cope wit dat? How will u have kids? D God u made a covenant wit I believe has a beta plan for u. I can only imagine ur pain but den, can u cope wit his drinking and no sex and maybe no kids for life? Does dis man rili love u? A man who insists on pregnancy b4 marriage cannot be trusted. Ur happiness is ultimate pls, I know what a loveless marriage can do to one. Lastly, who will u tell dat ur not d cause of likely childlessness? Wole Adejumo: If you have made a covenant with God not to have sex before marriage, then stay faithful to God and don't do something you'll regret later. The devil will surely bring alternatives aimed at changing your focus and spoiling your testimony. Remember God makes everything beautiful in His time, I repeat His (own time). You cannot help God. Abraham did and what happened to Ishmael at the end of the day? If you have waited for 35 years, make the wait worth your while. Wait on God and trust him with all your heart. He will do it. Grace Aloga: You know the truth, why not practice it. Desperation will cause you to end up (in) frustration. It's not easy dear, a broken relationship is better than a broken home. You will have to commit plenty of sins to make up every wrong. Think about this, after the wedding, will you look for someone to satisfy you in bed always? Since you know he can't do that? Meaning, you will become an adulterer? You really have to pray for direction. Janefrances Chiagozie Maduka: Do God's will above yours or your parents? Don't marry him because you've already fixed the wedding. If you love yourself and your sanity, please don't rush into marriage; no matter how old you are. Adanna Umoudit: 1. This man is a liar. 2. He's got issues that he's masking with alcohol. 3. He's about to make u break your covenant with God. Please don't cast your pearls b4 a swine or else you'll regret for d rest of your life. Pls call off the wedding immediately. You've come this far n God will honor u with your prince charming Ogunjobi Racheal: It's really hard but I also believe that God has better things in stock for you. Never please others to ur own detriment bcos it is ur life and ur happiness we are talking about here. May God help you. Emile Johnson BornChelsea Agosu: My sis if u have found out dat he's on medication over his erection, u beta quit dat wedding (before things) become worse or don't u think it's God that let him get drunk so as to want to go in sex with u to expose him of his plan. What if u didn't allow him on dat day till after the wedding? How will tell the story now? Georgina Ejiofor Oriaifo: Something similar happened to my cousin. She only told us about d guy's issues, inability to 'get it up', a few weeks to d wedding. We all told her to call it off but she refused cos she claimed she had committed too much money into d wedding. Now, 3 years after d wedding, d guy's condition is worse and my cousin is fed up because she claims d guy lied to her. My advice: pls don't marry dis guy just because you are desperate. Someone for u is out there. Be patient! Angela Tinya: Just read your story. It's funny I'm right now helping a friend rebuild her life. She has almost the same story as yours. He insisted on sex and she got pregnant. She didn't want to disappoint 'people' [the same people who regard her as a nuisance now] and went on to marry a drinking and let's-have-sex brother. He stopped working four years into the marriage, started taking drugs [everywhere she went, she was told to be submissive] with her money and started having children. She just ran off to Akure with her 3 kids after he began to get violent. All she says is: “I know I made a mistake and disobeyed God by marrying him but... When will the suffering stop? Does it not get better?” She is trying to start again no money, no business, everything is gone. MY POINT? If you are ready to endure the terrible process by all means, go ahead. But mark my words: the surprises are still unfolding about him... You'll still see more... Please, follow God. Follow truth... There's much more at stake than what you see now... Best wishes. Theresa Chidinma Okere: Having come out of a failed marriage myself, I would ask u to consider yourself lucky that the red flags are showing now before d wedding proper. Some of us were not so lucky. A man who insists on your breaking your covenant with God can never be worth (any good)! Don't think about what people will say: RUN as fast as your legs can carry you. You have held on this long, I know God has a surprise package for you as a reward for your chastity. All the best sis.

ealth News 101: Sugar-proof your diet: it is hiding in places you'd least expect it. The American heart Association recommends that women limit added sugar to 100 calories (6 teaspoon or 25 grams) and men to 150 calories (9 teaspoons or 37 grams) per day. Most of us consume more than 3 times that amount. To cut back, read the nutrition facts label and the ingredient list on packaged foods. Look at the grams of sugar, opting for products that include less for the same portion. TO FIND HIDDEN SUGAR ON THE INGREDIENTS LIST, LOOK FOR WORDS ENDING IN "OSE" (dextrose, maltose, glucose…) as well as addition such as consugar, syrup, high fructose, corn syrup, cane juice, and dextrin. Ingredients appear in the first three or four positions; the food probably contains lots of sugar. Body perfect 101: You will never change your life until you change something you do daily. What is a smoothie? A combination of Natural fruits or vegetables, dairy or nondairy depending on the purpose of the smoothie into a mouthwatering temptation. Depending on the ingredients, smoothies are chock full of vitamins from fruit and vegetables and calcium from the dairy ingredients. Bola, Lagos! Dear Bola, The answer is somewhere between NEVER and OFTEN. I'll explain studies have shown that weighing yourself regularly from once a week to daily - can be helpful during an active weight loss attempt. This comes under the category of "self monitoring" another example of which is keeping a food diary. By keeping you constantly aware of where you are and where you're going. Self monitoring prevents a major deviation off course. You catch trouble easy and can correct it. However, I don't much care for weighing. A scale may cause undue pre-occupation with weight, when the real prize is HEALTH and VITALITY. And a scale can't distinguish fat from muscle, so you can be getting LEARNER without getting LIGHTER, and your scale won't say a word about it! Now you know the pros and cons of weighing. Benefit from the former, keep in mind the latter, and choose a frequency that is right for you.
