She runs Tiannah’s Place Empire as its Creative Director and &KLHI ([HFXWLYH 2̇FHU 7KH FRPSDQ\ Tiannah’s Place Empire, operates the following businesses: fashion academy; styling; designing and retailing; television, video and runway show production; beauty and well being; and travels, tours, hospitality and food. She has vast experience in fashion styling, designing and music video production and has worked with a number of celebrities within Nigeria including Wizkid, Banky W, Niyola, Tiwa Savage, Don Jazzy, Dr Sid, Wande Coal, D’Prince and Davido. She has also designed for Hollywood celebrities including singer Kelly Roland of ‘Destiny’s Child’, Bria Myles, Jennifer Richardson, Natalie Nunn and lots more. Where did it all begin with TiannahStyling? 7LDQQDKVW\OLQJ LV D IDVKLRQ VW\OLQJ RXW¿W responsible for most of the hot magazine covers and hot music videos within and outside Nigeria. With the help of Nicki Minaj and Rihanna’s stylists in America, as well as other huge celebrity stylists abroad, I’ve been able to work with international acts like Kelly Rowland, Natalie Nunn, Jen Richardson, Jasmine Villegas, Basket Baller Wives LA and a lot more. What was your childhood earliest ambition? I have always wanted to be an entrepreneur and I have always been interested in fashion. I started my ¿UVW EXVLQHVV DW WKH DJH RI ZLWK D ERXWLTXH D mini supermarket and a spa while studying at the University of Lagos.

How are you able to separate your work as a stylist and designer? IIt’s actually really hard to separate the two because sometimes, when the public see few of our works, video or editorials, they always feel I just styled it not knowing I design all the pieces I style with.

How many collections have you had since you started designing? Tell us about your most recent one? I have designed four collections so far. All my collections are about my life. The ‘Day Dream Collection’ was showcased at the Nigerian Entertainment Awards LQ 7KH Âľ'DULQJ &ROOHFWLRQÂś was showcased at Music Meets 5XQZD\ LQ 7KH Âľ*ODGLDWRU Series’, ‘Elegante Kidz’, and ‘Freedom Collection’ are my most recent ones. I showcased my ‘Freedom Collection’ at African Fashion Week London in $XJXVW

What kind of woman do you design for? Actually, I design for everybody: kids, teenagers, women, men, and even the old. Elegante by TiannahStyling caters to the world, not just the society.

line – Elegante Kidz – with her daughter, Tiannah, as the face of Elegante Kidz. She is currently working on her reality TV show project – ‘Diary Of A Fashion Guru’, which is coming soon to TV screens across Nigeria and Africa.

Why fashion designing, styling and beauty? Because these three things put together are my passion. I started sketching at a very early age and while I was in university, I started designing for my friends and gave them fashion tips. I also love making natural remedies for skin issues; making people look good from head to toe. This is why I opened a salon for hair, nails, lash, make-up and WKH EHDXW\ DUP RI WKH EXVLQHVV %HFDXVH RI P\ ÀDLU for good skin, I opened my spa where I sell my own range of skin care products called Tiannah’s Glow. TiannahStyling now has a fashion academy. What’s the aim of the school? D

r. Paul Botwev Orhii was born and raised in Lessel in Benue state of Nigeria. He attended St. Francis College, Otukpo, Benue State. While there, he excelled both science and liberal Arts. Pursuant to his childhood dream of becoming a lawyer and his unquenchable passion for the legal profession, Dr Orhii worked at the High Court of Justice, Makurdi, as a clerk. Dr. Orhii is multi-lingual, and very proficient in Tiv, Russian, and English Language. He also has a vast exposure to divergent cultural, political, educational and economic systems of the world and a wealth of experience that cuts across different social and cultural backgrounds. In 2009, the Federal Government of Nigeria, appointed him as the Director General of the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC). The agency is charged with the responsibility of regulating and controlling the importation, exportation, manufacture, advertisement, sales and use of food, drugs, cosmetics, chemicals, medical devices and packaged water. In this Interview, the NAFDAC Boss talks about this Herculean task.

What was your childhood and upbringing like? I was brought up in a very, disciplined family. My childhood was very nice. I grew up with my siblings. My mother had nine children altogether and I am in the number two position. We had fun playing with each other as kids. Although we did not have much, we were happy. Sometimes, food was not affordable or enough to go round but like I said, we were happy and I managed to go to school. As a young boy did you always wanted to study medicine? Initially, I wanted to study law. My father had urged me to follow the footsteps of my uncle who is also my role model, the Honourable, Justice Katsina Alu who later became the Chief Justice of Nigeria. At that time, he was a lawyer and a role model to my family so my father wanted me to become a lawyer like him. I had prepared to study law because while in secondary school, I took art courses but I was more interested in the VFLHQFHV , ÀQLVKHG VHFRQGDU\ VFKRRO LQ with a distinction in WAEC. I excelled both in the arts and sciences. But an accident happened, I moved to Lagos State to live with my uncle. One day, his daughter was ill and we took her to the hospital on a Sunday. There was no doctor available to attend to her. Then a doctor arrived who coincidentally, came to see one of his patients who was critically

ill but he refused to attend to us. Eventually, we found a private hospital and took her there. There and then just like a vision, my uncle turned and asked me if I could practice medicine. I happily said yes and that was how I began to study medicine at the University of Jos. About that time, I got admission to study Medicine in Russia. What were some of the choices in life you made that brought you here? , PDGH D FRQVFLRXV HIIRUW WR EH KRQHVW ÀUVW WR myself and most importantly, to people around me. I worked extremely hard because I had it at the back of my mind that people who do not work hard end up very poor and I did not want that for myself. I also made sure that I had good friends DURXQG PH WR LQà XHQFH PH SRVLWLYHO\ DQG WKHQ , put in my best in whatever situation I found myself in. I have had my fair share of odd jobs. There were times I worked night shifts in my secondary school days at a textile factory in both Kano and Kaduna. I also worked at the Nigerian Breweries in Kaduna, but I always knew that in the long run, my goal will be achieved. So basically, these were the choices I made to get me to where I am today.

Who is your mentor that made the most impact on you? 7KH ÀUVW ZRXOG EH P\ IDWKHU +H ZDV P\ ÀUVW mentor and made a huge impact on me while growing up. He was a very principled man and he basically shaped my life. Second, is my uncle, Hounourable Justice Katsina Alu. He was such a role model and also had an impact in my life. How was NAFDAC when you took over as DG? 1$)'$& ZDV DOUHDG\ D ZHOO NQRZQ DJHQF\ when I took over. My predecessor had brought media attention so it was a well known agency. I KDG VWHSSHG LQWR ELJ VKRHV DQG , KDG WR ÀOO XS quickly because Nigerians were looking up to me because people can be easily impatient. Unfortunately, if you look at the fake drug VLWXDWLRQ LQ ZH KDG PRUH WKDQ SHUFHQW for the anti malaria drugs which were fake. There was an analysis done by WHO (World health organization) to evaluate the anti malaria drugs circulating in African countries. Fourteen African countries including Nigeria showed that we had DERXW SHUFHQW RI WKH DQWL PDODULD GUXJV ZKLFK were either fake or substandard. Then we had WKH 0\ SLNLQ PL[WXUH LQFLGHQW WKDW NLOOHG 1LJHULDQ FKLOGUHQ 6R ZKHQ , JRW WR 1$)'$& there had been no single persecution of a fake drug offender since the agency started. But on the whole, the agency was considered to be a

I KDG VWHSSHG LQWR ELJ VKRHV DQG , KDG WR ÀOO XS quickly because Nigerians were looking up to me because people can be easily impatient. Unfortunately, if you look at the fake drug VLWXDWLRQ LQ ZH KDG PRUH WKDQ SHUFHQW for the anti malaria drugs which were fake. There was an analysis done by WHO (World health organization) to evaluate the anti malaria drugs circulating in African countries. Fourteen African countries including Nigeria showed that we had DERXW SHUFHQW RI WKH DQWL PDODULD GUXJV ZKLFK were either fake or substandard. Then we had WKH 0\ SLNLQ PL[WXUH LQFLGHQW WKDW NLOOHG 1LJHULDQ FKLOGUHQ 6R ZKHQ , JRW WR 1$)'$& there had been no single persecution of a fake drug offender since the agency started. But on the whole, the agency was considered to be a

highly performing agency. What challenges have you faced and are still facing? When I got to NAFDAC, I had to bring the My pikin people to face the law. I did that within three weeks of starting work at NAFDAC. Now four \HDUV ODWHU , FDQ SURXGO\ VD\ ,¡P JODG ZH ZRQ LQ court and they have been convicted and prosecuted and they are facing 14 year jail term. And the assets of their company have been FRQĂ€VFDWHG E\ WKH )HGHUDO *RYHUQPHQW RI Nigeria. Prosecuting this case was a major challenge. Another major challenge was the 64 percent anti malaria drugs that were found to be fake. I had to immediately, swing into action to reduce the incidence of fake medicine in the country. 7KDQN *RG WRGD\ , FDQ JODGO\ VD\ WKDW ZH KDYH reduced the circulation of fake drugs especially in major cities, but we still have the challenge in the rural areas because people over there rely on cheaper medicine. The incidence of fake malaria drugs has been reduced to 20percent by an analysis done by the WHO in our meeting is Buenos Aires in November 2012. We believe that this can be reduced further if we fully begin to LPSOHPHQW YLD 606 0(66$*(6 WKDW SXWV WKH power of taking anti malaria drugs in the hands of the Nigerian consumer who can there and then reject them. We are very optimistic about that as well. Then in terms of prosecution, I have secured about six major convictions and so many other victories in the court since I got to NAFDAC. We recently launched a centre in Onitsha to try to uncode and minimize the circulation of fake drugs in the country and also to make sure Nigerians have access to good quality medicines. I always advocate impeccably groomed eyebrows with lashings and lashings of lashes to open up those eyes I get a little concerned that my individual lashes make me look a bit (aright a lot) like a hoochie mama, I mean there is a time and place for all that but.... I digress. My girl Lola Maja-Okojevoh, makeup artist to the stars and all around good egg has shown me the way forward. Recently, the city of Ibadan witnessed a celebration to rival many a grand occasion as it’s son of the soil, Senator Teslim Kolawole Folarin turned fifty. The event was marked with festivity and merriment that saw people of Oyo state from all walks of life turned out in droves to herald the politician. Casa Lucio/Gaso event centre was the venue, where food, drinks, prayers and dance ruled the roost. Live entertainment was from the stables of King Sunny Ade and his band, who serenaded guests till the wee hours. The celebrant and his stunning wife Angela Arike, were all smiles and the perfect hosts, receiving the royal fathers, dignitaries, politicians, socialites and family who came from around the country to be a part of the special day.
