nown for her role in the Nigerian movie “Girls in the Hood� some years back, pretty Danielle Allen since took a break from movies and turned to the beauty world. She runs Body Shop Nigeria and a spa with a vision to lunch her fashion label in Lagos soon. The light skinned, half British, half Zimbabwean beauty was recently spotted at the just concluded Africa Fashion Week London where she opens up on her daily beauty routine and style.

lunch. I carry lunch from home if I am in Lagos but if I am in London, I grab something on the road. Dinner is probably my main meal. It can consist of anything EHFDXVH , HDW D ORW RI ¿VK , VWLOO GR PHDW EXW , HDW D ORW RI ¿VK vegetables, and salad. I try to stay healthy with my foods but at times, I just can’t do without the pounded yam and egusi and all that (laughs). I also eat my local food all the time. I work out too so, it is a combination of healthy food and exercise.

What is your signature perfume? Signature? No way. I am not going to lie to you. I have so many perfumes. I am a perfume person. Literally, when I travel, I buy one from every airport going and coming. I buy one at a time so, I have loads (of them).

IQ Q How did you get into acting? To be honest, I just landed in it; that was ten years ago. I was in London and a friend asked me if I would love to act in Nigerian movies and I said ‘yes’. It was like a paid holiday; after all, I was going to be paid. So, , FDPH WR 1LJHULD DQG GLG DERXW VL[ ÂżOPV back to back, Girls in the Hood starred Kate Henshaw and Monalisa is the one I am really known for. Acting is cool. Full time job? Hell no. I can do it as a part time job; pleasure when I am more relaxed but right now, I am on the go.

What about jewelleries? I am not really a jewellery person. I love watches. I have a serious watch collection. Accessories yes, but watches are my main thing.

What do you think about the fashion week so far? The fashion week has been good. For me, personally, it has been an eye opener; now WKDW , DP IRFXVLQJ RQ LW 7KLV LV P\ ÂżUVW fashion week. I have been to a couple before but just for fun. It has been an eye opener. I have learnt a lot. I am impressed with the creations. Basically, it has been good.

What is your daily schedule like; from when you wake up in the morning till when you go to bed? My daily schedule is very hectic in terms RI P\ OLIHVW\OH ,W LV KHFWLF EXW GL̆HUV IURP place to place. If I am in Lagos, when I wake XS , JR WR WKH VWRUH FKHFN RQ P\ VWD̆ DQG go for meetings, or probably, I can have a meeting with a client or so. If I am in /RQGRQ LW FDQ EH GL̆HUHQW ,I , DP LQ Zimbabwe, it can be a bit so, it depends on where I am in the world at any point in time. What do you do when you wake up in the morning? How do you take care of yourself?

What is fashion like for you? Fashion for me‌ I can’t put it in one word. I don’t have a single word to describe what fashion for me is. The clothes that I wore yesterday are my designs so also is the kaftan that I am wearing today. I was wearing heels yesterday and my feet were killing me. I simply love fashion.

At the end of the day, after a hard day’s work, how do you shut down? TV really. I am a TV person. When I get home, I watch a lot of TV. I love series. It is crazy because I might just sit all day. When I am watching things like that, I move away from work because I am so into it. I also love music. I am such a music person. Music, series, I am good. You are not fully into movies? I used to act many years ago. I think I am going to do a couple more soon; not because of anything but because I enjoy it. When I have the time for P\VHOI , ZLOO GH¿QLWHO\ GR RQH RU WZR PRYLHV LQ WKH nearest future.

What is your eating habit like? I skip breakfast. I am not a breakfast person. I have never been a breakfast person. I may do

debayo Jones, the London-based fashion designer and style consultant is synonymous with exquisite fashion. He has long been associated with glamour, elegance, opulence and style and has continued to build a name for himself at home and abroad. The media and critics of the fashion industry describe him as the ‘King of Couture’. A multiaward winning designer, he completed a Humanities degree at University of Ife in 1985 and returned to his first love – fashion design. Even while in school, he always knew that fashion was his passion. He enrolled in a leading fashion college in London, United Kingdom, to acquire the requisite skills for his craft. Today, he is renowned for creating his own fabrics and presenting the most lavish and luxurious collections of gowns; ranging from silk to brocade, velvet, chiffon, organza, crochet and damask while presenting fine, clean and classic lines. His new bridge couture prĂŞt-a-porter collection also reflects the style and elegance that has defined his career over the years while his success has opened doors for others in his field from Africa to go to Europe. Adebayo’s famous clients include singer/actress Patti Boulaye, TV star Sally Familoe, Miss World 2001 winner Agbani Darego, TV-cum-stage star Faith Brown and celebrity stylist Janet Ginnings. He has also designed and styled gowns for several Miss Nigeria contestants and for some finalists at Miss Universe pageants. He has worked for different brands, including a company that line up Hollywood top celebrities on their books. These include Tina Turner, Diana Ross and Shirley Bassey. In the home front, Adebayo had worked with HRH Erelu Abiola Dosumu, who in the ‘80s opened her shop “Talalaâ€? on New Bond Street, where he also worked as an intern. Adebayo Jones was one of the top designers who wowed audience at the Native&Vogue Port Harcourt International Fashion Week. In this interview with ‘Allure’, he takes us through his collections and points out ways the fashion industry can grow in Nigeria. 8

n the second day of our tour of the Cape Wine lands, our last visit for the day was to the Boschendal Wines. After the wine tasting which has become a regular ritual in all the wineries we visited, we retired for dinner with the Boschendal family led by Goncalo Faria, the FRPSDQ\¡V 5HJLRQDO 'LUHFWRU $IULFD DQG 0LGGOH (DVW 'LQQHU ZDV WR EH VHUYHG DW WKH %RVFKHQGDO 0DQRU +RXVH :H GURYH WKURXJK WKH YDVW ODQG WR WKH 0DQRU +RXVH WXFNHG DZD\ VRPHZKHUH RQ WKH SURSHUW\ :H DUULYH WKH 0DQRU +RXVH QRW MXVW WR VHH a 201 year old house, but to a house whose story ZDV QRW RQO\ FDSWLYDWLQJ EXW RQH ZKLFK 5RZHQD Petersen was glad to share with us.

Because there were no bathrooms inside the house LQ WKRVH GD\V WKH KRXVHKROGHUV WRRN WKHLU EDWK IURP D 1DQNLQ SRUFHODLQ EDVLQ SODFHG RQ D ZRRGHQ VWDQG near the bed while they eased themselves with a chamber pot placed under the bed. Placed beside the bed is a fruit wood cot with only three sides so that the baby could lie close to its mother.
