VKFW FALL WINTER 2019

The sixth season of Vancouver Kids Fashion Week was held on March 23 and 24, featuring fresh fall and winter styles, along with a variety of special performances. David Lam Hall in the Chinese Cultural Centre of Greater Vancouver set the perfect stage to showcase a diverse group of young models and talented designers from around the world. As the largest kids’ fashion event in Canada, VKFW continues to set trends at the forefront of the next generation of fashion.

Concluding day one of VKFW were La Movida Sewing and Design Studios, and SUNCUN. La Movida showcased locally-designed pieces from 12 different designers, which gave the audience a glimpse at the variety of local design talent that Vancouver has to offer. SUNCUN finished the day with its collection of Chinese luxury clothing, with powerful Chinese imagery that left all in a tranquil state of mind as they exited the venue.

Blara Organic House kicked off the second show with a collection made of entirely natural, sustainable fabric. It was followed by Kindluv, a brand with an important mission to raise anti-bullying awareness. Both Blara Organic House and Kindluv served as a reminder that kids’ fashion has the power to shape the environmental impacts and social values of the next generation. Next, three dance performances were presented by Feng Feng Performance Academy in a variety of styles from ballet to street dance, demonstrating the variety that VKFW has to offer.

DAY ONE The first day of VKFW began with excitement and anticipation, welcoming both the local and international community and media to join in the festivities. After the crowd gathered into their seats and the lights dimmed, Vancouver-based brand Royal Luxury Baby charmed the audience with designs inspired by Alice in Wonderland, transporting onlookers into a fairytale world of flowers and teacups. Next, Korean brand Maman Salon presented a collection fit for royalty, featuring warm-coloured velvet garments. The fairytale collections of the first show were truly a treat to behold. Before the break, a young dancer from Stage One Academy gave a charming Latin dance performance.

ROYAL LUXURY BABY Vancouver-based brand Royal Luxury Baby opened Vancouver Kids Fashion Week with children’s luxury clothing designed by Keren Cloter. This season’s collection, entitled “The Sweet Garden of Wonders”, featured Alice in Wonderland-inspired pieces, complete with stuffed animals, ice cream cones, teacups and pocket watches reminiscent of the Mad Hatter’s tea party. The collection’s ribbon and flower patterns, combined with light and playful colours, evoked the joyful magic of childhxood and imagination.

which represents the opening to a new consciousness. Our garments evoke an awakening of children’s senses, as aromatherapy is adapted to our clothing in an eco-friendly and non-toxic way to help preserve the environment and the children’s delicate skin. We welcome you to the rose-lavender fragrance, with fresh and relaxing touches to help our little ones maintain the balance between the harmony of nature and the tranquility of the fragrance of these beautiful plants.

This collection is inspired by the 60s, with influence of the Disney movie Alice in Wonderland. Sweets and flowers are directly related to some of our most positive memories and events: baby showers, birthdays, celebrations, parties. Naturally, we associate sweets and flowers with joy, comfort, love, motivation, friendship and family. We created this collection to transmit those magical moments that generate happiness and transform the negative into positive. This season, we wanted to create functional and versatile garments for both summer and winter, with fresh colors all fused in unique prints and exclusively designed for this collection in rich fibres.

Each color emits characteristic vibrations that produce different effects.

The royal collection moved through warmly coloured dresses of cotton toward shimmery velvet dresses that fell heavily with regal grace.

KIND LUV Kindluv began its show with a video, targeted at spreading anti-bullying awareness to foster love, kindness and diversity in children. The Vancouver-based line by designer Yolanda featured positive messages, uniting youthful innocence with the importance of putting an end to bullying.

Q: What is the meaning of the brand name? A mother and daughter collaboration, Kindluv is a brand that seeks to put an end to bullying by spreading messages of love and kindness through clothing. Having immigrated to Canada, my daughter Megan was sad to leave her friends behind, but excited to make new ones. New home, new community, new school, new culture... everything was new. Trying to fit in, Megan was bullied. When I found out about this, my heart was broken into a million pieces. I felt helpless. It was hard to watch her leave for school, and I would constantly wonder who was doing what to her. Even though she spoke up and the bullying was stopped, seeing the same bullies picking on other kids got us thinking of how we could turn her experience with bullies into something good. We are on a journey to spread love and kindness through fashion. We are also committed to

Chinese brand SUNCUN concluded the first day of Vancouver Kids Fashion Week with a showstopping luxury children’s line. Combining traditional Taoist influences with contemporary styling, SUNCUN’s highly-detailed garments featured layered textures, flowing trains and sleeves, dragon accents and Chinese watercolour imagery that made a strong statement of fearlessness, courage, and happiness. Props such as umbrellas and swords added to the traditional aspect of SUNCUN’s pieces, reinforcing the brand’s Chinese roots. @suncun2019 VKFW FALL WINTER 2019

A smoky runway set the stage for Chinese brand SUNCUN, creating an ethereal, dreamlike atmosphere during New York Fashion Week FW19. Both adults and children modelled the new collection ‘FUSHENG’, with dragon motifs, metallic embroidery, and mandarin collars evoking a sense of the East. Tulles with delicate hand beading and intricately embroidered appliqué showcased the incredible artisanal techniques of SUNCUN.

ROCKBEBE

The motif for Korean brand ROCKBEBE’s streetwear collection was “harmony in mismatch”, as showcased by the colourful and lively patterns. Designers Mi Ra Kim and In Chul Kwak mixed bright bold colours like neon pink and yellow, lime green, and black and white into striking checkered, plaid, stripe and zebra patterns in garments with overfit silhouettes. This urban style collection transformed classic children’s clothing into eccentric pieces such as checkered denim jackets, leopard print coats, yellow tartan blazer sets, lemon yellow ponchos and a lime green jumpsuit fitted with orange pockets.

VKFW FALL WINTER 2019

Q: Tell us about the collection Q: How was the runway? this season. The show went well as we expected. We always start with basic black and white and add more character to it. This season we added neon yellow and bright yellow, and played around with houndstooth, checkerboard, plaid patterns in twill and jacquard.

Showing the collection with the best stage and models to show our brand image is the most important thing, and I think we achieved it this time, so we are very grateful for it.

Q: What inspires you?

Q: Tell us one interesting story behind the collection.

We get the inspiration from our daughter. She loves to play violin while she listens to hip hop music, and I thought it was funny how unbalanced things make new balance. We put together different things to make this interesting collection.

My daughter did a great job talking to other models. It was difficult for us to explain the brand vibe to kid models, but my daughter, who also walked on the runway, became a friend to all of our models and explained everything for us.
